00:00Henry, James and Gordon were miserable.
00:04They had been shut up for several days for being naughty
00:08and longed to be let out again.
00:12At last the Fat Controller arrived.
00:16I hope you are sorry, he said, and understand that you are not so important after all.
00:20We have a new tank engine called Percy who helps pull coaches
00:24and Thomas and Edward have worked the main line nicely.
00:28We will take you out now if you promise to be good.
00:32Yes sir, said the three engines, we will.
00:34That's right, but please remember that this no shunting nonsense must stop.
00:44He then told Percy, Edward and Thomas that they could go and play on the branch line for a few days.
00:50And they ran off happily to find Annie and Clarabel at the junction.
00:54The two coaches were so pleased to see Thomas again.
01:00Edward and Percy played with trucks.
01:04Stop, stop, stop, screamed the trucks as they were pushed into their proper sidings.
01:10But the two engines laughed and went on shunting till the trucks were tidily arranged.
01:22Next Edward took some empty trucks to the quarry.
01:24Percy was left alone.
01:26He didn't mind that a bit.
01:28He liked watching trains and being cheeky to the other engines.
01:30Hurry, hurry, hurry, he would call and they got very cross.
01:34After a great deal of shunting, Percy was waiting for the signalman to set the point so that he could get back to the yard.
01:50He was eager to work, but was being rather careless and not paying attention.
01:54Edward had warned Percy, be careful on the main line.
01:58Whistle to the signalman, you are there.
02:00But Percy didn't remember to whistle.
02:02So the busy signalman forgot him.
02:04Percy waited and waited.
02:06The points were still against him so he couldn't move.
02:10Then he looked along the main line.
02:12Peep, peep.
02:14He whistled in horror for rushing straight towards him.
02:16Was Gordon with the express?
02:24Oh, groaned Gordon.
02:26Get out of my way.
02:34Percy opened his eyes.
02:36Gordon had stopped with Percy's buffers a few inches from his own.
02:38But Percy had begun to move.
02:40I won't stay here.
02:42I'll run away, he puffed.
02:50He went straight through Edward's station and was so frightened that he went right up Gordon's hill without stopping him.
03:08After that, he was tired, but he couldn't stop.
03:14He had no driver to shut off steam and apply the brakes.
03:18I want to stop.
03:20I want to stop.
03:22I want to stop, he puffed.
03:26The man in the signal box saw Percy was in trouble.
03:30So kindly set the points.
03:32Percy puffed wearily onto a nice empty siding, ending in a big bank of earth.
03:40He was too tired now to care where he went.
03:44I want to stop.
03:46I want to stop.
03:48I have stopped, he puffed thankfully.
03:52Never mind, Percy, said the workman as they dug him out.
03:56You shall have a drink and some coal and then you'll feel better.
04:00Presently, Gordon arrived.
04:02Well done, Percy.
04:04You started so quickly that you stopped a nasty accident.
04:08I'm sorry I was cheeky, said Percy.
04:10You were clever to stop.
04:12Then Gordon helped pull Percy out from the bank.
04:22Percy is still cheeky because he is that sort of engine.
04:25But he's always most careful when he goes on the main line.
