Trey Knowles: I Don’t See Privilege is a sharp, playful slice of stand-up where Trey flips the conversation about “privilege” on its head. With tongue-in-cheek honesty, he jokes that people only “see privilege” when they’re busy coveting what others have. According to Trey, it’s discontent—not injustice—that makes privilege visible, and the desire to “gain the world” that fuels the obsession with comparing lives. Delivering his signature blend of wit and bold commentary, he even riffs on the idea that slaves once wanted to imitate their masters—pushing the audience to laugh, think, and squirm all at once.

Short, provocative, and unapologetically comedic, this bit captures Trey Knowles’s ability to turn hot-button ideas into punchlines that hit just as hard as the truths behind them.

00:27It leads to envy.
00:28Because you're coveting your neighbor's money.
00:31You're coveting your neighbor's wife.
00:33You're coveting your neighbor's spouse.
00:36You're coveting your neighbor's house.
00:38You're coveting your neighbor's material possessions.
00:42You're coveting.
00:44And you're not content.
00:48I know you guys are not offended.
00:51You're only offended if I told you I was a millionaire.
00:55If I told you I was a millionaire, you're offended.
00:57Because you're coveting my money.
01:01You're coveting my money.
01:09And so, am I really upset at slavery, as a black man?
01:19Am I really upset at slavery for my ancestors?
01:26How can I be upset?
01:27I don't know what they went through.
01:33You only can be upset when you want something of someone else's.
01:38And you're not content because you want something.
01:42And so, when you want something of someone else, it creates envy.
01:47It creates jealousy.
01:49And you see privilege.
01:53You only see privilege because you're not content.
01:56If you're content, you see no privilege.
02:00Either you want that position or you want more money, you want to gain the world.
02:06You want what they have.
02:07But when you're content, you're fine for what you have.
02:15You're fine.
02:16You're happy for what you got.
02:20You don't care about anything else.
02:22Materials, possessions of the world don't mean nothing to you because it's meaningless.
02:26Power doesn't mean anything to you because it's meaningless.
02:31Most things are not important.
02:34What's for you is what's for you.
02:37But when you're not content, you see privilege.
02:40You feel hurt.
02:47What happened to your ancestors that was the slavery.
02:54I understand that a slave wants to be like his master.
03:00And so, if a slave master is lost, then the slave is going to be lost.
03:05Because the slave wants what the slave master has.
03:08Right?
03:10Pharaoh is a slave master.
03:16The Hebrews were caught up in Egypt.
03:21And they wanted what Pharaoh has.
03:23They were slaves.
03:24The Hebrew slaves wanted what Pharaoh had.
03:28They wanted what the Egyptians had.
03:30And then when Moses freed them, when God freed the people out of Egypt, God freed them, Moses led them out of Egypt, what did they do?
03:45They went back and wanted the things of their slave master in Egypt.
03:51They wanted all the idols.
03:56They thought it was better being a slave.
03:59The slave master was already a slave.
04:04And they missed the things of the slave master, who was a sinful slave.
04:10And so, we got the same thing that's happening today.
04:14African Americans was enslaved by their slave master.
04:19When they become free, they want the things of the slave master.
04:23The slave master is not free.
04:25But the slaves, African Americans today, who are not slaves, are still slaves.
04:30Minorities are still slaves.
04:32Other people are still slaves because you want what they have.
04:37You think that they are living free.
04:39But they're not living free.
04:40They ain't living, and you think they're free.
04:43They are slaves to themselves.
04:45They're slaves to, let's put them in slaves.
04:48Putting them in slavery.
04:50And when you're prideful, you're in slavery.
04:54When you have jealousy, you're in slavery.
04:57When you have envy, you're in slavery.
04:59When you want idols, you're in slavery.
05:04I know, y'all saying, I just want a better life.
05:08You already got a better life.
05:11When God created you, he created you in love.
05:13You just lived life.
05:15But when you want something that doesn't belong to you,
05:19and you're willing to do anything to give it,
05:23you become a slave.
05:25You're a slave because you want something that doesn't belong to you.
05:29So you're not content.
05:32Because if you was content, you wouldn't see privilege.
05:35You were a slave.
05:38Therefore, if you want something that doesn't belong,
05:39you can't play a game.
05:41I want you to watch this world.
05:42I am obsessed.
05:43Let's watch this world.
05:44Let's look around.
05:47Let's watch this world.
