00:00Cracker Barrel Fans Discuss Menu
00:03Cracker Barrel is facing renewed criticism, this time over its food rather than its branding.
00:09The southern-style chain, long known for its comfort meals and country store atmosphere,
00:14is drawing complaints from loyal customers who say the food no longer tastes the same,
00:19and several classic menu items have vanished.
00:22This backlash follows controversy from August,
00:24when Cracker Barrel attempted a logo rebrand that removed its familiar old-timer character.
00:30The change was widely criticized as woke, prompting the company to reverse it after public pushback,
00:36even from former President Donald Trump.
00:38As the holiday season approaches, attention has shifted to the food itself.
00:43According to the Wall Street Journal, long-time diners say the flavor and quality of dishes have declined.
00:49Cracker Barrel has made operational changes to cut costs,
00:52but customers say the differences are noticeable.
00:54For example, biscuits are now made in large batches and refrigerated instead of being freshly prepared throughout the day,
01:02and green beans are baked in ovens rather than cooked traditionally in stovetop kettles.
01:07These changes come as the company reported a 5% drop in restaurant sales and an 8.5% decline in retail sales compared to last year.
01:16Many regulars have voiced their frustration, including 73-year-old Craig Watkins,
01:21who said the change should return to the cooking methods that made it unique.
01:24He even brings his own maple syrup, complaining that the restaurant's version tastes watered down.
01:30In response, Cracker Barrel says it's listening and plans to restore older cooking methods
01:35and bring back popular dishes like campfire meals and Uncle Herschel's favorite breakfast.
01:40After criticism over the logo rollout, the company has paused remodels and made leadership adjustments
01:46under CEO Julie Fels-Massino, who has pushed modernization efforts since 2023.
01:52With holiday crowds approaching and customer dissatisfaction growing,
01:57Cracker Barrel's next steps could prove critical for the brand's future.
