00:00Harry faces major warning in ongoing legal battle.
00:04Prince Harry should rethink pursuing legal action against British tabloids.
00:08As the Duke of Sussex's court case against Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday prepares for trial in January,
00:14judges warn of the significant consequences if the proceedings continue.
00:19In 2022, Prince Harry and other high-profile claimants, including Elton John and actress Sadie Frost,
00:25sued the UK publications for $50 million.
00:28The group cited alleged unlawful information gathering, including phone hacking,
00:33bugging, and impersonation for private records spanning multiple decades.
00:38The plaintiffs are reportedly collectively insured for $18 million to meet the totality of the opposing party's costs.
00:45However, the case was complicated by some of the plaintiffs obtaining solo policies totaling $2 million.
00:51Judges David Cook and Mr. Justice Nicklin issued a grave warning to the plaintiffs
00:56about the financial stakes in the case.
00:58It is imperative that the parties, and in particular,
01:01the individual claimants, have the clearest possible understanding
01:05as to the consequences of the way in which this litigation is being conducted,
01:09they said in a statement via Daily Express.
01:12Substantial costs have already been incurred,
01:14and the parties will soon be incurring more substantial costs in preparation for the trial next year.
01:19The legal experts also called the cost of the suit clearly outside the range of the reasonable.
01:24In 2023, a UK judge ruled the case could move forward in litigation.
01:28As we have maintained since the outset,
01:31we bring our claims over the deplorable and illegal activities which took place over many years,
01:36including private investigators being hired to place secretly listening devices inside our cars and homes,
01:42the tapping of our phone calls,
01:44corrupt payments to police for inside information,
01:47and the illegal accessing of our medical information from hospitals
01:50and financial information from banks,
01:52the plaintiffs said in a collective statement.
01:54We intend to uncover the truth at trial and hold those responsible at Associated Newspapers fully accountable.
