While Perry acknowledged New England could still recover from an 0-2 start, he warned that Miami’s superior talent and pride might snap them back into form. The bigger concern, Fred argued, is how losing to two beatable teams would crush fan morale and test Mike Vrabel’s early culture-building.

00:00Okay, so you mentioned the Dolphins not trying in week one.
00:03Is there any concern if the Dolphins hand the Patriots their ass on Sunday,
00:09which you're describing a scenario where that may happen,
00:14how does that affect the culture early in Vrabel's tenure?
00:19It's a test, right?
00:20It's going to test buy-in, which was something that we talked so much about.
00:24Bill Belichick, he was lacking at the end.
00:27And I thought Mayo had it early.
00:29Thanks in part to some very early week one success last year.
00:32But that obviously waned with time too.
00:36So it's a real test.
00:38It's a real challenge for what Vrabel's trying to establish in terms of identity,
00:41telling these guys, hey, if we do X, Y, and Z, we're going to be okay.
00:46If you're not okay after two weeks against two beatable teams,
00:49that to me really starts to test where your locker room's at.
00:52And we'll break, but that was my whole thing about losing to the Raiders,
00:56is that 0-2 against two very beatable teams.
01:02Now, look, your schedule is so easy, but now it's not.
01:07Because you understand what I'm saying?
01:08Because no team's easy at that point.
01:10Like, what, you're going to play Carolina at home and that's an automatic win?
01:14No.
01:15I mean, you should be better than Carolina.
01:19But, you know, you should have been at least a chance of being better than the Raiders.
01:25And the Dolphins are in disarray.
01:26Like, it's just this – I really – and I'm no Patriots fan,
01:31but I really do hope for everyone's sake that they win on Sunday.
01:34Because I think that it would be like a blow that I don't know that this fan base
01:40has had this early in the season because Mayo won his first game, like you said,
01:44and then that got people excited for a little while.
01:48Vrabel comes in.
01:49There's people saying they're going to win 11 games, which was ridiculous.
01:51I know.
01:52But people were saying it.
01:53Like, fans and broadcasters were saying it.
01:56Like, you go 0-2 against two – one team in complete disarray
02:01and one team that has more talent than you but is not a deep team.
02:06That's a very beatable team.
02:08Like, that Raiders team might win four games.
02:10I mean, he knows.
02:11That Raiders team isn't a team that might – I mean, they could win four or five games.
02:15Anyway, so when you lose to two teams like that –
02:18A lot of those 9-10 win totals are shot to hell.
02:20But just like no one's – there's no, like, layup, right?
02:24Like, all of a sudden, going to New Orleans is in a layup, right?
02:28Like, it's just like – it's hard to get pumped up for a 425 game at the Saints
02:34when, you know, the team can't get it together to beat a team
02:38that wants their coach fired and a team coached by a 73-year-old, you know,
02:43with one offensive lineman.
02:45Okay, whatever.
02:46We have fell for another break.
02:48I just really hope they win this week.
02:50I rarely feel this way.
02:51The one thing that would give fans some hope would be if the quarterback played well.
02:54If they put up a lot of points, that's what I said.
02:56If it's a shootout and they lose, fine.
02:59But at least that's exciting.
03:01But if it's a slog of a game that they lose,
03:03it's very hard to get motivated to watch it on a rainy Sunday.
03:06You know what I'm saying?
