Donald Trump’s new “Gold Card” visa program is shaking up America’s immigration debate. For a $1 million contribution, applicants get priority processing, rapid residency, and a pathway to citizenship. The White House calls it a bold strategy to attract investors and innovators. Critics argue it creates a two-tier immigration system—one for the wealthy, and one for everyone else. This video breaks down what the Gold Card actually offers, who qualifies, and what it means for American workers.

00:00President Donald Trump has unveiled one of the most sweeping and controversial immigration
00:13programs in modern U.S. history. The Trump Gold Card, a visa system built entirely around wealth,
00:21investment, and fast-tracked entry into the United States. The announcement came during
00:26a roundtable with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and several top technology executives.
00:31From the very beginning, the message was clear. This is not a traditional immigration reform
00:36proposal. It is a premium-tier, investment-based gateway designed for the world's richest applicants,
00:44one that promises the fastest route to U.S. residency that any administration has ever offered.
00:50Very excitingly for me and for the country, we've just launched the Trump Gold Card. It was
01:00about 30 minutes from now. The site goes up and all funds go to the United States government.
01:09It could be a tremendous amount of money. It'll also be able to have people like this keep,
01:14as an example, just one example. There are a lot of examples, people just buying them.
01:18It's somewhat like a green card, but with big advantages over a green card. And companies
01:25are going to be able to go to the Wharton School of Finance, the Stern Business School, Harvard,
01:34MIT, wherever you may get your students, any school. And you're able to buy a card and keep
01:43that person in the United States. According to the official program website, the Gold Card is aimed
01:49at individuals who can provide a substantial benefit to the United States. The process begins
01:56with a non-refundable $15,000 application fee, which the administration describes as a preliminary filter
02:04before deeper review. If an applicant passes that first stage, the far bigger requirement follows,
02:11a $1 million gift to the U.S. government. Only after that contribution is submitted will the Department
02:19of Homeland Security begin its vetting process. The White House says that once DH signs off,
02:26recipients will receive U.S. residency in record time, with rights closely mirroring those of a permanent
02:33resident. But the Gold Card is only the beginning. A second, more exclusive tier, called the Trump
02:40Platinum Card, is currently available via waitlist. This version allows approved applicants to live in
02:47the United States for up to 270 days a year without paying taxes on their foreign income. The cost, the
02:55same $15,000 processing fee, followed by a $5 million contribution. In return, the administration says,
03:03citizenship will be guaranteed once DHS completes its clearance. This represents one of the most
03:09direct wealth for citizenship pathways ever proposed by a U.S. government. There is also a
03:15corporate version of the program. The Trump Corporate Gold Card allows companies to sponsor high-value
03:21employees for U.S. citizenship. Businesses will pay $15,000 upfront per applicant, and an additional
03:29$2 million after vetting is completed. The White House may later introduce an annual maintenance fee
03:35for corporate sponsors. Officials insist that every dollar raised through the gold, platinum,
03:41and corporate cards will flow directly into the U.S. Treasury. President Trump has described the
03:47revenue as generating many billions of dollars that will be used for, quote, positive things for the
03:53country. But despite the confident messaging, major questions remain unanswered. The administration
04:01has not disclosed how long DHS vetting will take, what criteria will be used to evaluate applicants,
04:08or whether individuals from certain countries may be excluded. Officials also emphasize that the cards can
04:16be revoked if recipients pose national security risks or violate U.S. laws. And regardless of their visa
04:24tier, all gold and platinum card holders must pay U.S. taxes just like other residents and citizens.
04:32Each visa lasts three years and can be extended once for a total of six. Every applicant must hold at least a
04:41bachelor's degree in a specialty field, a requirement aimed at attracting what the administration calls
04:47high-end talent. President Trump has also confirmed there will be no cap on the number of gold or
04:54platinum cards issued. He says the goal is simple, to bring, in his words, the best of the best into the
05:01country. But reaction to the program is deeply divided. Supporters argue that the gold card could attract
05:08global innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors at a moment when the United States is competing for
05:15top-tier talent. They say the revenue alone could strengthen national priorities, ranging from
05:22infrastructure to scientific research. Critics, however, warn that the initiative risks turning
05:29immigration into a marketplace, one where wealth, rather than merit or human need, decides who gets to
05:36become American. They caution that this shift could widen inequality, sideline skilled workers who
05:43lack capital, and fundamentally rewrite the moral framework of U.S. immigration. For now, the Trump
05:50administration is pushing full speed ahead. The gold card is officially live, the platinum card waitlist
05:58is full, and corporations are already inquiring about sponsoring foreign workers under the new system.
06:03Whether this becomes a historic economic engine, or a deeply controversial restructuring of America's
06:11immigration identity remains to be seen. But one thing is certain, with billion-dollar targets,
06:18fast-track citizenship, and open-ended admissions, the Trump gold card marks one of the most dramatic
06:25shifts in U.S. immigration policy in decades.
