00:00Welcome to Gabala. I'm at the heart of Azerbaijan's mountain retreats. I'm almost 2,000 metres above sea level at the Tafendag Mountain Resort. It's a place where tranquility meets adventure.
00:21Just a few hours from Baku, Gabala is a world apart. A mountain region where culture, nature and adventure blend seamlessly.
00:33From winter slopes to summer hikes, this place is alive with energy and calm all at once.
00:39There is something for everyone in each season here.
00:44The Tafendag holds a special blend harmony of the mountains and adrenaline filled outdoor activities.
00:51It's easy to see why people come here. The views are incredible and the air just feels different.
00:57But the action also takes place not just here in the mountains, but in Gabala's valleys and villages too.
01:06Whether you're flying through the air, coming down the mountain on skis or using your legs or even four wheels,
01:12how you get around here is part of the fun.
01:20It's time to leave the peaks behind and head deeper into Gabala's valleys.
01:25After a rather bracing walk up here, you are rewarded with the most stunning views.
01:30Around 30 kilometers away is Nij village. It's home to the Udi people, one of the world's oldest Christian communities.
01:46They've preserved not only their traditions, but a language spoken by only a few thousand today.
01:51This is one of the most interesting and historical ancient churches here.
01:57It was built in 1823.
02:00Udi tribe is the only tribe that lived in this land, still saving their religion, their old tradition and all the ancient values.
02:13And this church is the center of their tradition. This is the heart of their culture. This is the heart of their history.
02:24Welcome to Udi Her. This is a living and breathing museum, run by the community to keep their culture, history and heritage alive.
02:36And one thing about food is it transcends language and culture. So I'm having my first lesson today. We're going to make some kitab.
02:55One thing about food is that people will be able to eat, many of us.
02:59This means that people will eat well, different foods.
03:01This makes us happy and better.
03:03When they're finished, we lack kilnz when they're in the house.
03:07We're going to eat well.
03:09We're going to eat well.
03:11We're going to eat well.
03:13We start making money.
03:15We're bringing bread.
03:18We're giving bread on food.
03:19We're going to keep the bread, etc.
03:23Es muy delicioso, es muy delicioso.
03:30Nuestra vez, nos transportamos a la naturaleza de Sabalán, en los puestos de Corcos Mountains.
03:37Surrounded by rivers on both sides,
04:29Sabalán winery combines a perfect climate and fertile soil to produce wines that tell the story of Gabala,
04:36a region where the land, the people and their food form a unique connection.
04:41From moments that make your heart race to places that invite reflection, Gabala is a place of contrasts.
04:48It's steeped in culture, rich in heritage, and it stays with you long after you leave.
