00:00What changes do you think the Democratic Party has to make to win in the midterm elections?
00:05I think this election is about our values, who we fight for.
00:09I believe there's right versus wrong, and unfortunately wrong is winning.
00:13And so we have to make sure our families are heard, that they can get affordable health
00:16care for their families, that they can get the job that allows them to provide for their
00:19kids, and that we care about other people's kids as much as we care about our own kids.
00:24And certainly that's what I'll be talking about around New York for my reelection.
00:27Amazing.
00:28And tell me why it's so important for young people, and young women especially, to vote.
00:33I think their voices really matter in this election more than ever.
00:37We've seen women's activism since President Trump became our president.
00:41You saw it with the way to end gun violence in this country.
00:44And their willingness to fight hard, to register to vote, to get out to vote, to make sure their
00:48neighbors and friends get out to vote.
00:50This is an era of activism, and so our voices really do matter.
00:53And being heard is the most important thing every voter can do.
00:56And do you think that come fall, there will be a huge millennial vote?
01:02I do. And we've already seen it. We've seen it in some of these midterm elect, not midterm.
01:07We've seen some of these special elections. We've seen it in the elections we had just last November.
01:10Turnout among young people and turn out among women was record high.
01:14So we have a huge chance to take back this country and to make sure our values are at the forefront about caring about one another and making sure all kids have a chance to succeed and everyone has a chance to work their way and have the American dream.
01:28And what do you think is the one major issue that women are facing right now in politics?
01:33Well, I think in terms of voters or in terms of candidates?
01:37Voters.
01:38I think women feel that this president doesn't value them. We aren't valuing women. We haven't passed national paid leave. We still can't end sexual violence in the military, in college campuses, even at Congress.
01:49We have a president who has multiple allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment, credible allegations, and there's been no hearings about it.
01:59So I think women specifically want accountability. They want transparency. They want to be heard and they want to know that the issues that they care about for their communities are going to be addressed.
02:09Yes. Can you be a mom and run for politics? How do you do it?
02:14Absolutely. And we're going to see here today, we're going to highlight a lot of women and their activism who are working women, working hard to make a difference in their fields, but also caring about others.
02:24And I think the same is true in politics. You can be a great mom, but also be an advocate for the issues you care about. And because you're a mom, you might have a different lens.
02:33You might really truly understand why paid leave is so important. You might really understand why we need universal pre-K and affordable daycare and why equal pay can make such a difference.
02:42Because if 40% of primary wage earners are women and you don't get a dollar on the dollar for the same work, you can't provide for your family as much.
