00:00All right, the offseason continues for the New York Mets, and it's not getting any better.
00:06In fact, it's gotten rough for the Mets, losing Pete Alonzo.
00:08He now goes to the Baltimore Orioles.
00:11Five years, $155 million.
00:13That is the highest annual average ever for a first baseman.
00:18Tough blow for the Mets.
00:19One day after they lose their closer, Edwin Diaz to the Dodgers, Pete Alonzo, now goes to Baltimore.
00:25And this only mounts to pressure on David Stearns.
00:28How do the Mets replace the back-end bullpen stuff that we saw from Edwin Diaz and the offense provided by Pete Alonzo?
00:36Huge blow because not only is he a homegrown star, he is the franchise's leader, all-time leader in home runs.
00:43So the question is, how are they going to replace it?
00:46Now, there will be a lot of talk about whether or not Pete Alonzo is worth the money that the Orioles get in that highest annual average ever for a first baseman.
00:54And some can argue for a guy who's displayed a lot of power but hasn't really hit for average that maybe it's not worth doing that.
01:02But what I will say is, I do believe it was imperative that the Mets brought Edwin Diaz.
01:07I thought that should be priority number one.
01:08And then once they lost Edwin Diaz, I thought it was a huge priority for them to bring back Pete Alonzo.
01:13But they were unable to do that.
01:15So now all eyes will be on David Stearns.
01:19There were no deferrals in the deal for Pete Alonzo.
01:21I will draw Sherman and John Heyman both reporting that.
01:24But five years, $155 million, and the Mets have now struck out not being able to bring home two of their players and return them in the ADC.
01:36Where do the Mets go from here?
01:37No one knows.
01:38They have a lot of work to do.
01:39But a rough Tuesday and Wednesday at the winter meetings for the Mets.
01:43And again, how do they pivot?
01:46Where do they go?
01:47A lot of Mets fans are going to be frustrated, especially losing a home-grown star like Pete Alonzo.
01:51So when you look at this offseason, Brandon Nimmo is out, Edwin Diaz gone, and so is Pete Alonzo.
01:58And now we'll have to see how the Mets can try to turn this offseason around, which has not gotten off to a good start.
