Spence Dix & Co director Jono Spence gives commentary on the Spence Dix & Co and PPHS PTIC heifer and weaner sale at Naracoorte.
Transcript
00:00Really pleasing result, I guess it's the old story of supply and demand and the smallest yarding we've ever had, a lot due to season and pre-test results from previous season.
00:12$3,520 for our best mated heifers, as Jake Phillips from Angus Australia pointed out at the start, it's a great trading time with people selling cows for high dollars and it's a few dollars on top to replace them with a well-bred young heifer.
00:25We did see some bottom-end heifers around that $24,500 for just a few isolated hems, but really the range predominantly was from $28,50 to $3,520 with a lot of heifers, $31 to $3,300.
00:40A premium for EU cattle, a premium for cattle that weans. We saw our lighter cattle turn out twice in the high fives to $6,000 I suppose, for a few light cattle, but the middleweight cattle provided some good buying opportunities in that $520 to $560 on the steers.
00:59The heifer sale was quite erratic, but perhaps so were the heifers, certainly breeders paying a premium for heifers to mate and trade feeders, found some reasonable buying opportunity in the low to mid $4.00 a kilo range.
