Canberra suburb or country town?

00:00Canberra will continue to be a source of many jobs for people in the smaller communities
00:05that surround it, important health and education services, recreation, shopping, all of those
00:13things. That's inevitable because it's a large and growing city. But we need governments
00:18to ensure that our smaller communities retain their character, that they have the services
00:24people need, that they provide employment opportunities so that they can thrive and that they don't
00:32find they wither because everyone has to travel to Canberra for the things that they need.
00:39At the moment, Bungendore has a good vibe, if you like. It could do with more local employment
00:46and there are services that the community is asking for. And if government wants housing
00:52growth, it has to invest in the other things people need to create a good place to live,
00:59a vibrant community with opportunity and a good, what I would call, wellbeing. Not just
01:07material quality of life, but the wellbeing of the community.
