lcd repair

00:00This year I wasn't going to make a video on. This is the MacBook 2005-2006, and I remember
00:09how hard it was to change the screen on it, but I did have two parts units. One had bad
00:19USB, both of them, and they weren't able to be replaced like the Acer, you know, with
00:28that part I showed you on the last video. So it's all done now, and we'll have to go
00:39backwards. So here would be the new LCD, or I'm trying to swap an old unit LCD and put
00:49it on the MacBook with a good USB. Try to make one good one. So if you see down here, this
01:02is the top bracket. The first thing you'd have to do is put your camera back on, and
01:12that's what the camera looks like. And the microphone. Now the microphone, you'll see
01:19this wire that went around the edges of the LCD. And that would go right into... Let's get
01:34the light a little closer. It's just a hole. See, there's the... There's the white, black,
01:53black part would go through the back of the frame of the LCD. That's the camera hole. And there
02:12it would be, I think this one here. Let me put the... You'll see a little... A little silver
02:34thing here. That's got to go on top. And then you got the two screw holes right there. And
02:44there. And the camera goes right in the middle. And there would be the microphone. This is very
02:56complicated, but if you can't get it to look good, at least it'll work. One sec. So I had
03:04to put that tiny screw in. This one right here. See that. There's just two of them. Oh, I've
03:24lost the light. Now when you take the screws out of the bottom, this is where it all started
03:35here. You can see the heat from the LCD. Over the years, just aged this white part. But that
03:46pulled right out. That was the first thing. After taking the bezel off. I'll show you that
03:58in a second. But now we're going to... This just pulled out. This is your camera ribbon cable.
04:08Now I'm just going to use... As you can see, it feeds through to the motherboard. And this
04:14is really difficult. It's not like most of the others. You know, the PCs, the Dells. It
04:22just pushes in like that. It's got to be even. It just went like that. That pushed in. So
04:40that is for the camera. And you'll see this tape you'll have to take off. Try to put new
04:45tape on it. And then here's the actual LCD ribbon cable for the MacBook. This is a 13-inch screen.
04:55And that just pushed in as well. You see... Go even on both sides. Make sure it's in. You might
05:12even want to test it before you put all this back together. So there's the LCD. And another
05:22thing that goes is the light on the LCD, which is the inverter. And the inverter... I'll show
05:32you what that looks like. The inverter is this. And you can see there's two sides. So here's
05:46more. The inverter wire goes in these little grooves around the corner. And the Wi-Fi cable. On the
06:10bottom of the LCD. This is the Wi-Fi cable here. Sorry. That's... Got to go in, too. It's got those
06:23little battery clips that you just push on. But first, the cable goes on. Well, this is the
06:33last thing you would take off. So once you've got, you know, the tape secured on it. This
06:45is the top. The top where the camera is on your LCD. So if you lift that up, the two wires
06:53on the top will be the Wi-Fi antenna. And the camera wire itself. And the bottom of the
07:06LCD. Let's get the old one here. So you could see the... This would be the bottom of the LCD.
07:20This is the inverter clip. So this is for the bright light. And sometimes one or the other goes.
07:32Now they make, these days, everything at once. In other words, you would have the LCD and the
07:43light and the LCD. So you'd replace it. It fixes both problems. But inverters back then weren't really
07:52much. You could get one on eBay for, say, like $7, $8 used. They just take them out of...
08:00It's just a bunch of... A couple transistors there and circuit board. And that would be for the light.
08:09And then that would push right down into the board. So we're gonna clean this up a bit. And then we'll show you what it looks like.
08:22So I just put a little scotch tape. Exactly right over the yellow tape. Because the yellow tape, of course, isn't sticking
08:34anymore. And try to get it right over that terminal. So it can't be yanked out the ribbon cable.
08:44These right here, you'll see. They go into the lid. It's a magnet. And be sure you don't lose where they come out of. Or you're gonna have problems keeping the lid shut. But they're not really that important.
09:08It's just that why... That's why there's no latch on the lids on these.
09:15So now I'm gonna slowly push up the LCD.
09:21I have to take my light off.
09:24And feed the wiring as best you can.
09:28And feed the wiring as best you can.
09:36That first screw I put...
09:38On the top left...
09:41Well, right there.
09:44Because...
09:46It was easy getting them out.
09:48But see those two magnets there?
09:51The screws kept sticking to the magnet.
09:55So you gotta...
09:57Try to get something to hold the screen in place first before...
10:02You go ahead and put all the screws in.
10:05Also I had to loosen those three screws on the hinge right there.
10:12Because...
10:14That's where the...
10:16Wi-Fi card...
10:20Is...
10:22Right there.
10:24And...
10:26The antenna wire went under that.
10:29Right...
10:31There.
10:32The bottom light...
10:34Right there.
10:36Is where it goes through.
10:38From the back.
10:40Now this piece is upside down right now.
10:42But you see that rounded...
10:44Thing that fits right into that...
10:48To cover those wires.
10:53There's a lot to it.
10:55Also plugging the inverter back in.
10:57And there's a slot way in back...
11:01Down there.
11:03Push that in.
11:05And that's where that...
11:07Plastic white thing...
11:09Will go on top there.
11:11And there's three...
11:13Three screws in that.
11:15So I just...
11:17Plug the light in.
11:19Before I put the rest of the screws in.
11:20I just want to test the screen.
11:22Make sure it works.
11:24And...
11:26I got a little CD...
11:28DVD...
11:30External working.
11:32And I have the USB.
11:35It's all apart but...
11:37You can see the...
11:38Snow Leopard on.
11:39I want to put windows on the other side.
11:40Like boot camp if I can.
11:41And that should do it.
11:42Take care.
