00:00The Trump administration has criticized the EU more aggressively than ever, but European nations remain divided on how to respond.
00:10In an interview with Euronews, the U.S. ambassador to the EU defended a controversial national security document released last week.
00:20French lawmakers narrowly backed social security budgets in major victory for Prime Minister Sébastien Léconneux.
00:30Within the past week, the Trump administration has criticized the EU more aggressively than ever,
00:38from belittling Europe's international standing to commenting on entirely sovereign matters like migration and regulation.
00:45First, a U.S. government national security strategy document warned the EU should change course on a range of issues or risk what it described as civilizational erasure.
00:54Meanwhile, Elon Musk suggested the EU should be abolished after his social media platform X was fined for breaching digital rules.
01:04The U.S. president himself doubled down on the EU during an interview with Politico,
01:09where he used especially harsh language to describe his country's European allies.
01:14They're not doing a good job, Europe. It's not doing a good job in many ways. They're not doing a good job.
01:19I want to ask you about that.
01:19They talk too much. And they're not producing. We're talking about Ukraine.
01:25They talk, but they don't produce. And the war just keeps going on and on.
01:33But most European nations, they're decaying. They're decaying.
01:40The European Commission has opted to de-escalate tensions in order to stabilize the relationship with Washington.
01:47But critics say the answer may lie in taking greater responsibility and becoming more independent in critical areas.
01:53The question, what this means for our security cooperation, is of course the most important question.
02:00It's in my opinion that we in Europe and thus also in Germany have to become much unabhängig from the U.S.
02:09That's not a surprise. That's now confirmed.
02:13Europeans are contemplating the future of the transatlantic relationship, but remain divided on how to respond.
02:20European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has not yet addressed the U.S. national security document, nor the Musk fine.
02:27In an interview with Euronews Morning Show Europe Today, U.S. Ambassador to the EU Andrew Posner defended a controversial national security document released last week.
02:42The 33-page document suggested excessive regulation, illegal migration and ill-designed economic policies in the EU could lead to the bloc's civilizational decline.
02:52Pulser stated the document seeks to restore Europe's, quote, greatness and should not be understood as an attack.
02:59And the various comments we've heard across the last couple of days on the national security strategy.
03:04Is this a campaign, do you think, Ambassador, to dismantle the European Union?
03:07Well, you know, it's interesting.
03:09The coverage of the national security strategy, when I read it, I thought, my, this thing's going to be terrible.
03:15I went and read it, and it's really not that bad.
03:18The section on Europe is titled, A Proposal for European Greatness.
03:22It's not called, We Don't Like Europe, We Want Europe to Go Away.
03:26And if you read down a little bit, it says that Europe is, I think I'm going to get the quote right,
03:32Europe is strategically and culturally vital to the United States.
03:38You read a little further, it says our transatlantic trade relationship, which is the largest trade relationship in the world,
03:45is a pillar of the global economy and of American prosperity.
03:51So I don't, I don't, I did not read it at all as an attempt to dissolve the European Union.
03:55But does it suggest going back to nation states?
03:57A diplomat who spoke to Euronew said the document has little to do with national security,
04:03as it barely mentioned Russia, and instead has a lot to do with political interference.
04:09Several European leaders pushed back, arguing that democracy does not need external saving,
04:14and domestic matters are for the EU to handle alone.
04:21France's social security budget cleared a key hurdle in Parliament on Tuesday
04:26as MPs narrowly approved a draft bill aimed at staving off a huge gap in funding for welfare, pensions, and health care.
04:36A total of 247 MPs voted in favor of the text, and 234 voted against, while 93 abstained.
04:47The vote by lawmakers in the lower house handed a victory to embattled Prime Minister Sébastien Léconneau.
04:53Léconneau was saved by making last-minute concessions that included suspending President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform
05:01to secure the votes of the centre-left Socialist Party,
05:05alienating the Conservative Republican Party and his own centrist alliance.
05:11The government had warned MPs that if the social security budget for next year were to be rejected,
05:17public finances could quickly deteriorate.
05:19France, the eurozone's second-largest economy, is under pressure to cut its budget deficit.
05:26But efforts have been armstrong by a fragmented parliament,
05:30the result of snap elections President Emmanuel Macron called last year.
05:36Thailand and Cambodia vowed to continue fighting on Tuesday
05:40as renewed border clashes killed at least 13 people and forced tens of thousands to flee.
05:46Residents in the disputed border areas began fleeing by the thousands on Monday.
05:51The Thai army said almost 500 temporary shelters were set up in four border provinces,
05:57accommodating over 125,000 people.
06:00The Thai army said almost 500 temporary shelters were set up in four border provinces,
06:01accommodating over 125,000 people.
06:04Cambodia's military said nine civilians were killed and 20 wounded in the fighting,
06:21while Thailand reported four soldiers killed and 68 wounded since clashes resumed Sunday night.
06:28The latest fighting followed a skirmish that injured two Thai soldiers
06:33and shattered a ceasefire that ended five days of clashes in July over territorial disputes.
06:40The fighting left at least 48 people dead on both sides and forced evacuation of more than 300,000 civilians.
06:48With Thailand's foreign ministry warning that it will continue its military operations at the border,
06:54Cambodia, Cambodian authorities withdrew from the ongoing 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand,
07:00citing safety and security concerns.
07:09As of next year, South Korea requires advertisements made with artificial intelligence to be labeled accordingly.
07:16The move comes in an effort to curb the number of deceptive promotions featuring fabricated experts
07:22or deep-faked celebrities endorsing products on social media.
07:27South Korean officials have also said they will ramp up monitoring,
07:31remove problematic AI-generated ads, and introduce punitive fines.
07:37AI-generated ads have become staples across media platforms in South Korea,
07:41but officials say the tool is a growing risk to consumers,
07:45particularly older generations who struggle to tell the difference between AI and reality.
07:50Despite the decision, the government remains ambitious to strengthen the country's capabilities
07:57in advanced computer chips that power the global AI race.
08:01Prime Minister Kim Min-suk emphasized it is important to, quote,
08:05minimize the side effects of new technologies as the country embraces the AI era.
08:12Today, Henrik Schober helps out at the Rosa Luxemburg High School in Berlin.
08:16Usually he teaches political science at a university, but because the German teacher of Class 7-2
08:22is away on a class trip, he is standing in front of the students
08:26and has brought along a lesson on fake news for them.
08:45Praktical knowledge. The students like that.
09:12The lesson is organized by the donation-funded startup Life Teach Us.
09:16Using an App, volunteers can suggest topics and step in when lessons are cancelled.
09:21By now, more than 300 schools across Germany are participating and the trend is rising.
09:47A welcome relief.
09:50In Berlin alone, about 21,000 lessons are cancelled every week without replacement.
09:55In other parts of the country, the situation is similarly strained.
09:58In other parts of the country, the way they are passed away, was their own.
10:00In other parts, the situation is already been on.
10:03In other parts, the situation is still on.
10:05What is happening here?
10:07Sra. Teresa, the owner of the house?
10:09Aham.
10:09It's a homage to the government.
10:11Hominage?
10:12It's because of your age.
10:14But from when someone is monageada just because it's old?
10:17A report of documents.
10:22It's still three years.
10:23You need to appear in the prefecture with urgency.
10:26I'll have to go on the cadaver.
10:35You didn't know that you went to Columna?
10:37I didn't know what it was now.
10:40There's something I still want to do.
10:44That's the lady who came to me to wash it.
10:47Your lady, you're going to do what in Itacoatioka?
10:52I'll guarantee my place in heaven.
10:58What's your money?
11:00I'm going to buy freedom before being arrested.
11:06Will you be afraid of flying over there?
11:09More fear, better.
11:17You don't have fear of the police?
11:20No one can do anything with me.
11:24Don't let anyone trap your path.
11:26Don't let anyone go.
11:27You're going to buy freedom before being arrested.
11:36You're going to see the world that you've never seen.
