24 Hours in Police Custody A Family Vendetta Part 2 of 2 (9th December 2025)
Transcript
00:00A 57-year-old man and a 32-year-old man
00:03was shot dead in two Cambridgeshire villages last night.
00:10Our victims look like they are family.
00:13Your father and his son have both been murdered.
00:16There was a domestic-related court case.
00:18Police, get your fucking hands up!
00:20Get your father, man!
00:23What of a world where you lost a family?
00:27Sam and Paul, they were both extremely annoyed
00:30about their outcome from that court.
00:32Police, come to the door with nothing in your hand.
00:51It's crucial that we find the truth.
00:54Police! Police!
00:55Hands you on your back!
00:57Got to question everything, believe nobody.
01:02It's almost a game of chess, trying to get him to slip up.
01:05This is your opportunity to talk to me.
01:1862-year-old Steven Alderton is in custody on suspicion
01:22of the double murder of father and son Gary and Joshua Dunmore.
01:29His daughter, Samantha, and her husband, Paul,
01:32were also arrested on the night of the shootings.
01:35I went to the holiday inn, got a statement.
01:37The manager there described him as a really nice family, all really happy.
01:42The last time they went into that room on the 29th, it was 15.53 hours, that's when they physically
01:50use their car to swipe into that room. So we've got them on CCTV, all four of them entering.
01:56So we don't actually think they came out of their room any time after that.
01:59Samantha's account is she was shocked, had no idea what her dad had done.
02:07Yeah. And she feels now, her dad doing this, she said, I'll never forgive him.
02:13And I just don't understand why he's done this.
02:17I'm moving away from considering that this was a conspiracy to murder
02:21and towards Alderton acting alone.
02:27This is your, um, bit paper that says no further action is being taken.
02:32Pretty much all the information we've gathered thus far suggests
02:35that they don't appear to have known what dad was planning.
02:40It appears to have hit them as much of a shock as anyone.
02:47You all good? Let me show you out.
02:50Cool. All right, see you in a little while, bud. Bye-bye.
03:08He wants to talk. Does he?
03:11Yeah, he's just called the custody staff down and goes,
03:14I know I went no comment last night, but I really want to explain myself.
03:19So please interview me again today.
03:25You've got to try and experience life as much as you can.
03:29Travelling just, um, gives you more experiences of, of how people, people live, um, down in Texas.
03:38They have a particular approach, uh, that you sort of have to respect because,
03:43you know, in redneck country, they've got guns and things like that.
03:47It's not just a shoot and this is full on execution.
03:52Mm.
03:53And, but not once is then had the composure to then drive on off 10 minutes to the next village
03:59and, and do it again.
04:00Mate, it's got weirder and weirder as the day's gone.
04:04He was fine.
04:05Yeah, totally cool, calm and collected, but he's getting himself more and more worked up.
04:09Burdened with guilt and desperate to unload.
04:11Desperate to unload something.
04:12Yeah, I think.
04:14Well, that's what we wanted last night.
04:24I lost the car.
04:34Officers from Cambridgeshire's major crime unit
04:37analyze CCTV footage from the second murder scene.
04:41There is.
04:51He looks around.
04:54He goes towards the door.
05:08Hear the door knock?
05:09Hmm.
05:17Yeah, the clucking noise, like a reloading and he's reloading.
05:24Obviously, you've spoken to your solicitor.
05:40Yeah.
05:40You're satisfied with the fact that you've had that ample time to speak?
05:45Yeah.
05:45Yeah.
05:45Yeah.
05:46Right.
05:53Tell me everything about what happened on the night of the 29th.
05:58No comment.
06:07No comment.
06:08No comment.
06:12When we start getting a no comment interview,
06:20the aim then is to explore anything that he could use in a defence.
06:25This was closing the doors to potential defences.
06:29Now, this is CCTV from The Row in Sutton.
06:35We'll go back.
06:58It sounds like a door knocker, and then a few seconds later...
07:06Did you hear them two bans?
07:11Yes.
07:12What were they?
07:14No comment.
07:18Having watched the CCTV, how did that make you feel?
07:21No comment.
07:22You have no emotion whatsoever.
07:27I'm stunned.
07:29Because me just listening and watching that myself, it's chilling.
07:37Why do you not have any emotion?
07:40No comment.
07:45These were two executions.
07:46Joshua and Gary opened the door and got blown away.
07:54And then they got their heads taken off.
07:59If I'm wrong, this is your chance to tell me about that.
08:04No comment.
08:09We know there were four gunshots at Gary's house.
08:14We know from the bookshot spray that one has been fired into the staircase of the property.
08:24No comment.
08:27It appears to have been shot twice to the body, the chest, and once in the head.
08:35Would you agree that that shows an element of perseverance and intent?
08:42No comment.
08:44How many times would you have to load your shotgun
08:48for a double-barrelled over-under gun to be able to fire six shots?
08:56So it's loaded.
08:57Bang, bang.
08:59Empty your cartridges.
09:01Reload.
09:03Bang, bang.
09:05Break the shotgun.
09:06Empty the cartridges.
09:08Reload.
09:09Bang, bang.
09:10Bang, bang.
09:27With Stephen Alderton refusing to give an account,
09:30officers speak to relatives to see if they can explain his state of mind before the shootings.
09:35How the hell has it escalated to that point where something so horrific has happened?
09:42I spoke to him on Saturday the 4th.
09:50I checked, hi Steve.
09:50If you need a chat or just a break, our door is always open.
09:53Right.
09:54Because she was upsetting us what was going on.
09:55I'm having a beer, I'll be carer, guardian, let Sam and co move over to America.
10:01No problems.
10:02I'd kill a soldier in the case.
10:05Sorry, go back to that first message.
10:06I'm having a beer and I'll be carer, guardian, you know.
10:11OK.
10:12Which is, that's the first I heard that the court case had gone, I'm guessing, the other way.
10:18I don't know, he didn't really say any more on that.
10:20Yeah.
10:20Just describe the normal Stephen.
10:23An old school guy that would spend most of his life in a pub.
10:29A very intelligent guy, a chartered surveyor, um, always on the go.
10:36You know, he worked extremely hard.
10:38Local counsellor.
10:40Did you ever see him, like, lose his temper or...?
10:42No.
10:44I don't know why you think, if he has done it, what's provoked him to do it.
10:51I can't believe he's done what he's done.
10:55His life was his wife, if you'll ever.
10:57Yeah.
10:58He's passed away now.
11:00It took a lot out of him.
11:02I don't think he ever got over it.
11:06But that's typical.
11:07He wouldn't...
11:09He let it come out.
11:10He wouldn't, you know.
11:11Like, showing emotion?
11:14Never.
11:15No.
11:15No.
11:18The court case was obviously going on.
11:21You know, and he was trying to do a lot with Sam, I think.
11:23He took a lot of it on himself.
11:24OK.
11:25I know he was paying for it.
11:28He's always, for want of a better expression, babysat Sam.
11:30She's the only child who'd say he's paying for it all.
11:39So, if we're talking an intel hypothesis that, potentially, Yolanda was the sort of peacekeeper.
11:46Since Yolanda's death, the issues with the Dunmore family, certainly on the Alderton side, is that they've just grown and grown.
11:55And the hatred and ill feeling, it's just become all-encompassing around their whole relationship.
12:02It's like they've been in a fight with Josh for about 18 months, constant court battles with him.
12:10Even going back to April 2022, he's funded everything.
12:14He's funding all future court cases.
12:17June 2022 seems to be a bit of a turning point where a family meeting occurred,
12:24which included a lot of extended family around Joshua and Samantha.
12:30After that meeting, Stephen was making comments around,
12:33he's already spent 20 grand on these family court proceedings to try and assist Sam.
12:40Making comments like, this is just going to go on forever.
12:44That might be the beginning of his mindset.
12:47Is it that he had this big plan for Samantha to go to America and Josh is blocking that
13:10and he's getting frustrated and angry in himself that he's just removing the blocker?
13:17Gary Dunmore, he was very much fighting back against any kind of prospect of going to America.
13:28Joshua was frightened, anxious and scared of the thought he was going to lose his son.
13:38And it was at that point that Gary and I said, you know, you're going to have a fight and we will help you.
13:50The family will help you, support you.
14:00He was a great dad and we loved him dearly.
14:03Every day, every day was an adventure.
14:09Just doing everything together.
14:13Joshua was single for basically six, seven years because he did want to be a good father
14:22father and be present like his dad was with Gary above all else.
14:31It was family.
14:33He was an amazing granddad.
14:35And there he is, on their bikes.
14:46They were a great team.
14:47They were a great team.
15:01They were a great team.
15:06HE SIGHS
15:18One of her messages back in June, she does say the best outcome
15:22would be that he had an accident on his scaffolding.
15:25So even right back in the beginning, she's...
15:28Oh, really? Yeah, she's thinking the outcome would be better
15:31if he weren't around. Yeah. But... Yeah, OK.
15:34Most people probably think that about ex-partners, they don't.
15:38There's a fine line between your kind of standard rant
15:41in these circumstances that probably happen
15:43in most messy domestic situations.
15:45Staying and pulling the pin at her. Yeah, exactly.
15:47I think there is a fine line, but people do cross that line
15:51and I think you just need to be open-minded
15:54that it could be either way, you know,
15:56it could be that they are completely innocent,
15:59but it might not be.
16:01In the heat of the moment, people do say things
16:05that they don't necessarily mean.
16:08You have to keep an open mind.
16:11You have to be careful that you don't start
16:13deciding innocence or guilt straight away.
16:16This is something that, as a detective, you are taught,
16:20you know, to try and avoid that conscious or unconscious bias.
16:24They were in a fade. However, the investigation is ongoing.
16:36The judge had ruled that his son is to stay with him,
16:46and he's not to go to America, and he was so happy.
16:51Like, the weight had just been gone. It was just gone.
17:07The emotional rollercoaster had finally come to an end.
17:12And I take comfort from that, that he was.
17:19And he, um...
17:21And I left him.
17:23And I was, you know, I gave him a kiss. Love you.
17:26As a mother, your role is to protect your children.
17:42And it's very difficult when someone...
17:45you go all through your life
17:47with your family values and everything,
17:51and what's right and what's wrong,
17:53to then...
17:55just for him to take and do that to my child.
18:00He's my child.
18:02Mine.
18:04And he done that to my child.
18:07And I...
18:09And you're there to protect them.
18:12And...
18:14he just callously just did that...
18:17to my son.
18:23I feel he shot Joshua for Sam.
18:28And shot Gary for himself.
18:31Because...
18:33Gary was everything he wasn't.
18:36See if we could piece together what he was doing,
18:40where he was going,
18:41what was his frame of mind
18:42in those hours leading up to him going to do it.
18:48Have you seen that footage?
18:52Where he drives by as Gary's pulling into his drive?
18:57Yeah, this is it.
18:58Then he comes back up here.
19:00Back up towards Gary's house.
19:04Gary starts pulling in this way.
19:08And this is where Alderton is.
19:11So he doesn't even kind of wait for him to...
19:15reverse it and he kind of just goes straight round him.
19:18I counted 12 times at the row alone.
19:22And then Alderton goes straight to Blundisham then,
19:25to stalk Josh.
19:31It almost harks back to his career being an engineer.
19:34This was an analytical process.
19:36He'd set out with a task and that was his intention.
19:41Stephen went out there to kill Joshua and Gary
19:48and he wasn't going to stop until he'd achieved his goal.
19:50Sometimes, because you get so caught up in the investigation,
19:56you forget that actually it's two normal human beings
19:59that are kind of at the heart of this.
20:01Like Gary, you know, he's just come home from work.
20:06He's faffing in his van.
20:08Like he drops a couple of things, do you know what I mean?
20:10Completely oblivious, the fact that his killer
20:12has literally just driven past him.
20:14In a couple of hours, he's going to be shot dead.
20:19It's just, it's heartbreaking.
20:23They had no idea what was going to happen.
20:25Even just watching CCTV of Josh.
20:31Hey, how are you?
20:35You know, he appears to be such a loving father.
20:38And it's just tragic it's ended this way.
20:45Come on, we'll have to find you.
20:55The time is now 15.57 and we are continuing with the interview.
21:05Do you think what you did on Wednesday was justified?
21:14That's a great comment.
21:18How do you think your grandson's going to be affected
21:20by the death of his father and his other granddad?
21:26Talk to me about your grandson.
21:31Are you close to him?
21:36Yes.
21:40He's lost his dad.
21:42He's lost his paternal grandfather.
21:48And it's looking like
21:50he's not going to see his maternal grandfather
21:52for quite some time.
21:55Don't come in.
21:56Don't come in.
21:57Don't come in.
21:58Don't come in.
21:59Don't come in.
22:09When we talked about the offences and the shooting,
22:12there was little to no emotion shown.
22:15The only time was when we talked about the impact this had on his grandchildren.
22:22It was the only time there was a glimmer that he regretted what he'd done.
22:27For a long time, I was just sort of thinking, if I could convince people to come out of my mind,
22:44I think, if I could convince people to come out of my mind,
22:46I think.
22:47In reality, you can't.
22:51Do you feel obligated to do things that are not necessarily right in your eyes?
22:56It was a little bit more.
22:57Yes, it was.
23:06Stephen, we've been on to CPS.
23:08Yes.
23:09And I'm sure it won't come as any surprise that they've authorised some charges
23:12some charges in relation to the murders.
23:16We go down to the custody desk now.
23:17We'll go through that, go through the formalities,
23:21and then we can bring you back in here.
23:23And we'll go through that.
23:25OK?
23:25Yeah, thanks.
23:26Come on, downward.
23:27Yeah.
23:38Stephen, you're charged with the following offences.
23:41On the 29th of March, 2023, at Bluntisham,
23:45in the county of Cambridgeshire, murdered Joshua Dunmore.
23:49On the 29th of March, 2023, at Sutton, murdered Gary Dunmore.
23:58Because of the serious nature of this offence,
24:00we will be looking to remind you here at the police station
24:03to go to court tomorrow morning.
24:05OK?
24:06Do you understand all that?
24:07Yeah.
24:07Yeah.
24:08I was adamant that it was a white Peugeot 206.
24:21A witness has come forward with information
24:23that suggests Stephen Alderton was not acting alone
24:27on the day of the murders.
24:31And he says he drives in there, turns right.
24:34But he says it's the white Peugeot 306 parked here,
24:37facing that way.
24:38So he says he sees two people.
24:41First one's a white male, aged 50 to 60 years old.
24:45He was wearing a fleece-type jacket, and he had a hat.
24:48And he says he sees a female in the car, similar age to Sam.
24:57The female is described as a white female, 25 to 35, slim build.
25:02With this new information, officers must further review
25:10all their suspects' movements in the lead-up to the murders.
25:14At CCTV, we focused on the kind of 24 hours leading up to the murder.
25:20Each time he is meeting with Paul and Sam, it's the 26th, 27th, and 28th.
25:30On the 27th, he's having dinner with them.
25:33Also on the 27th that morning, he does meet with Paul alone
25:36for about 50 minutes.
25:39On the 28th, he sort of looks like they're
25:41having drinks and that with them.
25:45Some of the things that stood out for me, on the day,
25:50she has a 1 minute 50 conversation with her dad at 8.56.
25:56And then he attends the storage unit at 9.15.
26:00We have got CCTV from self-storage, where
26:03we know he was keeping the gun with the ammunition.
26:05She then has a conversation with her solicitor,
26:10and she instantly rings her dad afterwards.
26:12There's two other further phone calls.
26:14One's a 7-minute phone call, and one's a 5-minute phone call.
26:17They're really long phone calls to have with her dad,
26:21and we'll never know what they said, and whether they made plans,
26:25whether they were discussing things in that time, I don't know.
26:28Did she mention those in the same thing?
26:30I'm trying to wrap my brains to see whether she mentioned that,
26:32because we did ask about contact on the 29th.
26:34And I don't think she mentioned long phone calls with them.
26:37Later on in the day, she starts filling out a passport application
26:41for a child.
26:42She Googles, where can you travel to without a passport,
26:46how to get an emergency travel passport.
26:49The morning of the 29th, she has Googled,
26:51if I have a court order stopping me from going out the country,
26:55will immigration know?
26:56So I think they were planning on disappearing very quickly.
27:02Which is what Josh was worried about.
27:04If you looked here in a certain light,
27:06does it point towards this being pre-planned?
27:10Yeah.
27:11You've got messages between Stephen and Sam saying,
27:16I'd settle for him going to hell,
27:18I'd love for him to disappear, he's a controlling madman.
27:23Yeah.
27:24And then, sort of the week before,
27:26Sam says to sit, I'm working on a relocation plan.
27:30I'm just going to have to weigh up pros and cons, yeah.
27:37Looking through Stephen's phone,
27:39he was instrumental in the custody battle.
27:44The conversations between him and Samantha were very detailed,
27:49but I think what was surprising
27:52was the level of animosity towards Joshua.
27:57We can't just assume that they were said in the heat of the moment
28:01or it was said but it wasn't meant,
28:04because ultimately two people died.
28:06We need to be able to look into that
28:08to try and understand what did actually happen
28:10and who was involved.
28:12What I need to say to you is really important.
28:14Two persons have been murdered this evening.
28:16I'm arresting both of you.
28:18What you need to know is in the short term,
28:21we need to find a childcare solution.
28:24Is there anyone you can think of at all?
28:26Officers analysed Samantha Stephen's behaviour
28:29at the time of her arrest.
28:31Your dad's cousins in Bristol.
28:33OK.
28:34It's almost like she's trying not to say...
28:37They have the contents.
28:39Out of everything, that is the biggest red flag.
28:43It's still dry, it'll be on the A14 at this point.
28:47It's on the A14.
28:59As the inquiries have progressed,
29:01this is a line of inquiry that we do need to look quite deeply at.
29:06I officially policyed the decision to reinstate them as suspects in this investigation.
29:11With suspicions around the involvement of Stephen Alderton's daughter and her husband growing,
29:30officers decide to rearrest them both for conspiracy to murder.
29:34Now, don't get me wrong, if they get charged and convicted of this,
29:40then chances are they will have the children taken off them.
29:43But that's for the welfare of the children, isn't it?
29:47To me, questions need to be asked around these messages.
29:58It's not a decision that I take lightly.
30:02I'm aware, obviously, that she is a mother.
30:06And I'm very aware of the impact this is going to have on the children.
30:10But ultimately, two people are dead.
30:15And on the face of it, Samantha is the only one who would gain anything out of this.
30:22We're just going to guide you through the rooms, ma'am.
30:24Mm-hmm.
30:25And you guys can do your own thing.
30:26We're just going to be in support.
30:27If you guys think we're going to be right here with y'all.
30:33OK.
30:34I'll come check with you.
30:47Hello.
30:48Can we come in?
30:49Hi.
30:50I'm really sorry to disturb.
30:52Take some deep breaths, Sam.
30:53It's OK.
30:54We're not in a rush.
30:55You are under arrest and suspicious conspiracy to murder Josh and Gary Glemore on the 29th of March.
31:00The police officers at the station will talk to you in detail about why you've been arrested again.
31:15So, they're in custody at the moment.
31:17We're waiting for solicitors to turn up.
31:19There's been a lot of planning going on for these interviews.
31:23Paul's distraught is emotionally all over the place.
31:27Yeah.
31:28A cynical view might be the relief of being NFA'd and then they're being re-arrested.
31:37You know, the seriousness might have dawned and shit, you know, actually, they're not just going to let this go.
31:47Or shit, they've got more information.
31:51Your solicitors introduce themselves to show you some extracts from the body-worn footage of your arrest and the arrest of Samantha at the Holiday Inn.
32:12What we need to do, and what I need you to think clearly about, is a family member that you trust the children going to.
32:21Your dad's cousins in Bristol.
32:22OK.
32:23Bear in mind, Stephen does all this childcare for you.
32:32Surely he should have been top of the list.
32:35I'd like you to put into context some of the messages that we've found from yourself and Samantha.
32:44On the 7th of July 2022, Sam replies to you, you may turn up at the same time as Josh.
32:57Run him over if you can, lol.
33:00I, Paul Stephen, deny taking part in any planning or assistance of the murder of Joshua and Gary Dunmore.
33:09At no point did I want any harm, whether serious or otherwise, to come to either Joshua or Gary.
33:15I did not have any conversations with Stephen Alderson about any plan or idea to hurt or kill Joshua or Gary Dunmore at any time.
33:24On the 28th of July 2022, Sam sends Stephen a message.
33:33He's managed to work it.
33:36He's working on shooting cans.
33:38He's going to play sniper from the balcony window when Josh picks up.
33:47Can we pause the interview, please?
33:48The time is 20.49 and we are pausing the interview.
33:53PHONE RINGS
33:55It's all no comments at the moment, but...
33:58Yeah, it's a bit...
34:01A bit frosty.
34:03His body language is interesting, but...
34:06What is it, what, just nonchalant, or...?
34:09Yeah, just lost.
34:11And, sort of, the more we've...
34:13The more we've gone through, sort of, messages and that,
34:16the more he, sort of, slumped into his seat and being a bit...
34:19Defeated?
34:21The only question he answered before the sister could jump in and remind him not to say anything was,
34:27were you involved in planning the murder?
34:29He was like, no.
34:31And that is it.
34:33That's another question.
34:37He was like, oh my God.
34:39In relation to Sam and Dad, messages from the 25th of the 5th of the 5th of the year.
34:43He's talking about selling his property and giving Sam 150,000 of profit from that sale.
34:48And then, talking about him being in South America.
34:50I'll do a quick return flight to Panama, see if I can set up a rental...
34:55return to the UK,
34:58meet up with the Dunmore's to establish
34:59if contact arrangements can be agreed,
35:01if not, dot, dot, dot, dot,
35:03dot, it'll be Independence Day.
35:06Makes no difference.
35:07If I can flee, I'll be holding
35:09hands up and be forward with prison
35:11life. And
35:13important, all of this is deleted.
35:16And Daddy says, I'm sure
35:17it won't be long before I end the
35:19fiasco. Dan replied,
35:21plus there's only 11 months to go,
35:23but no point. And
35:25Dad says, and it will end.
35:29Significantly, she talks about
35:31the address and
35:32confirms that
35:35Gary,
35:37Josh's dad, is living at this address.
35:52On the 24th
35:53the 11th, that is a picture of
35:55Josh's phone door.
36:03So we've got these pictures as well.
36:05It confirms that they're just as being
36:06Gary's picture.
36:08We're going to start with
36:09the messages.
36:11We want to talk to you about messages that you've found
36:17on your father's phone
36:19that are between you and your father.
36:23Have you confirmed to your dad in any way
36:26where Gary
36:27or Josh lived?
36:31Your father says, I'm sure it won't be long
36:33before I end this fiasco.
36:36Your reply
36:37is, plus there's only 11 months
36:40to go, so no point.
36:42And his reply to that is,
36:44and it will end.
36:46That 11 months is pretty much up to the date
36:48when the shooting happened.
36:51It's strange
36:52that you don't say to him, what do you mean?
36:54Not long to go before I end this fiasco.
36:56So it sounds to me
36:58or looks to me
36:59like you know what he's talking about.
37:03He goes on to say,
37:05meeting with Dunmore's
37:06to establish if contact arrangements
37:08can be agreed.
37:11If not,
37:12it will be Independence Day.
37:14It sounds to me like
37:27a year before these murders,
37:30you and your father
37:31are already planning
37:32what's going to happen
37:34if things don't go your way.
37:35To be fair,
37:46what we anticipated happening
37:48is what happened,
37:49which was a no comment.
37:51They were given messages,
37:52there was web searches,
37:53there was images
37:54from device downloads
37:55and there was CCTV.
37:58It was no comment.
38:00However,
38:01she indicated quite a lot
38:02through the interview
38:03that she wanted to speak.
38:04but was given the advice
38:06to keep quiet.
38:08She would ask
38:09to speak to a solicitor
38:10where it looked like
38:11she was going to talk to us
38:12and when we came back in
38:13she went into the no comment mode.
38:15The messages on his phone
38:16were quite damning
38:17but
38:18what we haven't found
38:21is a response
38:22from Samantha.
38:24So,
38:25obviously,
38:26trying to prove
38:27what's in her mind
38:28without having any,
38:29you know,
38:30phone evidence.
38:31We've got a lot
38:32of little bits
38:33of information
38:34that we need
38:36to piece together
38:36and present that
38:37to CPS.
38:39I've got,
38:40I just found something
38:41on the,
38:41on the wannabe download.
38:45I've got it,
38:45like, roughly here.
38:46Yeah.
38:47So all it matters
38:47is here, isn't it?
38:48Police are reviewing
38:49Samantha's phone data
38:51to see if they can establish
38:53her true whereabouts
38:54at the time
38:55a witness claims
38:56she might have been
38:57with her father
38:58outside the first murder scene.
39:00So this is obviously
39:04her in the hotel room
39:05and we've got a time stamp.
39:07Can you see that?
39:071552?
39:09Well,
39:09the car was seen
39:10really in close.
39:12So on that TV,
39:13I don't know
39:14what his TV programme is.
39:15That's Peter Rabbit.
39:16That's live TV.
39:17Yeah.
39:18Then, you know,
39:19that could essentially
39:19put her in there.
39:20We've got a clothing
39:20which we can look
39:21at the CCTV,
39:22see if that's the same.
39:23Yeah, we can go back
39:23over that,
39:24can't we?
39:24Yeah.
39:28I checked against
39:29the CCTV
39:30that we have
39:31when they enter
39:32the hotel at 1549
39:34and the outfit
39:35is the same,
39:36so with the black leggings
39:37and then the pink top
39:38that she's wearing
39:39in the room
39:40at the time.
39:41The programme's
39:42scheduled to start
39:43at 1540
39:44and the image
39:45is taken
39:46at 1551.
39:49Charlie's then
39:50watched CBB's.
39:51We've got the exact
39:52frame here as well,
39:53so that's the,
39:53they're still
39:54taking out the corner
39:55of their photo
39:55from the phone download.
39:57This frame was shown
39:58on the TV
39:58at 1551.30
40:00at the same time
40:00the photo was taken.
40:01Yeah.
40:02We've spoken to the hotel,
40:04they don't have
40:04DVD players
40:05or any additional
40:07sort of apps
40:09in that room,
40:10so they only
40:11offer free view.
40:15I think that's,
40:16that categorically
40:17proves that could not
40:18have been her
40:18and she was in that room.
40:21I've finished off
40:25with a prepared statement
40:27which was along
40:28the lines of
40:29I'm not guilty
40:31of the offences
40:32alleged,
40:33have nothing to do
40:34with murders.
40:35We have messages
40:40which suggest
40:41there may have been
40:43a conspiracy,
40:44but having suspicion
40:47and having sufficient
40:49evidence to charge
40:50are two different things.
40:52Knowing that something
40:54is going to happen
40:55is not sufficient
40:56to prove
40:57that there was
40:58actual agreement
40:59to murder Joshua
41:00and Gary.
41:14Bottom line
41:15as to why
41:16they're not
41:16running with it,
41:18everything is him
41:19and she's not
41:20responding to it.
41:21Yeah.
41:22Yeah, and not responding
41:23is not conspiracy.
41:25Yeah.
41:26Exactly, yeah.
41:27Awaiting trial
41:39in prison,
41:40Stephen Alderton
41:41has written a letter
41:42to the judge
41:43which has been
41:44shared with officers.
41:46Given a bit
41:47of a history
41:48of his wife
41:50being poorly
41:50and having to
41:52look after her
41:53full time
41:53and the toll
41:54that's taken,
41:55he said he turns
41:57to alcohol
41:58to deal with that.
42:01It culminates
42:02in him having
42:02a massive breakdown
42:03and that on the
42:04morning of the murders
42:05he woke up
42:06and was a different person.
42:09So it sounds like
42:10he's essentially
42:10mitigating what he's done
42:12by saying he's had
42:12some sort of
42:13mental breakdown
42:14but we don't have
42:15any evidence of that
42:16in his medical records
42:17or from anyone else
42:18that was close to him.
42:19I don't think
42:22we will ever
42:23truly understand
42:24what made
42:26Stephen Alderton
42:27commit the crimes
42:28that he did
42:29but there were
42:31other messages
42:32that he'd sent
42:33to other family
42:34members as well
42:35so we can show
42:37he has been
42:38having these kinds
42:40of thoughts
42:40for quite a long time.
42:42The history media
43:10was exactly the same
43:11as previously
43:11no outward signs
43:13of remorse
43:14not even an ounce
43:16there was no emotion.
43:35You try not to take
43:37your work home with you
43:38but this case
43:41has been
43:43particularly
43:44difficult
43:45because of
43:47the sheer brutality
43:49of it
43:49in the first place
43:50the fact that
43:53there is absolutely
43:54no sense
43:55to what has happened
43:57and there's a child
43:59you know
44:00at the centre of this
44:01and the absolute
44:04devastation
44:05that this has caused.
44:07we just remember them
44:32fun living
44:33try to remember
44:35all the good about them
44:36they make me laugh
44:37yeah
44:39that's it
44:41the night that I got
44:45a phone call
44:45saying
44:47Gary and Josh
44:48was dead
44:51killed
44:52murdered
44:54it was the worst day
44:56of my life
44:57they just loved their kids
45:01they died because
45:03they cared
45:04what gives that man right
45:08just because he wasn't
45:10getting his own way
45:11to God murdered two people
45:13it came apparent to me
45:19with regards to my grandson
45:22that
45:22when Joshua
45:24was killed
45:25all what he fought for
45:27and what he did
45:28went with him
45:29so
45:30I was going to fight
45:32for my grandson
45:33and I had to do it
45:36for Joshua
45:37I'm very protective
45:48obviously
45:49doesn't get told
45:51of much
45:52so
45:55yeah
45:56it's lost so much
46:02but I just want him
46:08to know
46:09what a good daddy
46:12and granddad
46:13he had
46:13well done
46:15to get yourself
46:21up every day
46:22before
46:23he came to me
46:25was
46:25you could wake up
46:28with pain
46:28you go to bed
46:29with pain
46:30it's always with you
46:32it's never gone
46:32and
46:34but
46:36I've got my ray of sunshine
46:39and he is a ray of sunshine
