40:23But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
40:28My parents were both junior hockey coaches.
40:32And they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years old.
40:38Mercifully for them, they died instantly.
40:41Mercifully for me.
40:42St. Thomas scholarships existed.
40:47I didn't have anybody else to help me.
40:51Had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge hole in my heart.
40:58St. Thomas filled it with hope.
41:01The hope of a new family.
41:02Things, things weren't always easy.
41:06You know, they never are for anybody.
41:08But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
41:12First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the admirals.
41:17And I never looked back, because I never had to.
41:25The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today.
41:32Hockey gave it to me.
41:33And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
41:38So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight.
41:43And for supporting this cause, because it's not just a scholarship.
41:46It's everything that comes with it.
