Initially, Aloy encounters a wounded brave who informs her that War Chief Sona is still pursuing the killers despite being ambushed. The brave directs Aloy to Sona's last known location near a metal tower southeast of Devil's Thirst.
Aloy then finds Sona battling a sawtooth machine and helps her. Sona explains her plan to attack the enemy using the blaze, an explosive substance they used to dig a pit. Aloy suggests using the blaze to their advantage, proposing to ignite it to cause an explosion.
After the confrontation, Sona is wounded, and Varl arrives, having defied orders to hold the gate. Aloy volunteers to scout for the remaining killers and discovers they are camped within a "ring of metal" in the taboo ruins of Devil's Grief. Sona decides to break the taboo and pursue the killers there, seeking vengeance.
