Aloy explains that the Proving was attacked by killers who targeted her because of Olin. Erand is shocked, believing Olin to be a friend, but Aloy asserts Olin is a traitor working with the attackers. She asks Erand to take her to Olin's house in Meridian to search it.

On the way, Aloy offers condolences for Urser's death, and Erand expresses his grief and the pressure of filling his sister's shoes. Aloy shares that she also lost someone, Rost, at the Proving.

Upon arriving at Olin's house, they find a locked vault. Aloy finds a way to open it, revealing a hidden document. The document reveals that Olin's family was taken hostage by the killers, forcing him to obey their commands. Olin's writings also confirm he was ordered to kill Aloy.

Aloy explains to Erand about her Focus and how it allows her to see the unseen, similar to Olin's Focus, which the killers use to communicate and see through each other's eyes. Erand asks Aloy to help him find the soldiers who killed his sister, but Aloy initially refuses, stating it's his war, not hers. However, she eventually agrees to meet him at Redridge Pass.

The scene then shifts to Olin with the Eclipse, who are resurrecting ancient machines. Aloy arrives and confronts Olin. A mysterious woman disables their Focuses.

Olin, now captured by Aloy, reveals that the killers are the Eclipse, a cult of the Shadow Carja who worship a "devil" named Hades. He describes Hades' voice as a "cold, awful jangle" that said, "System threat detected". Olin explains that the Eclipse want to overthrow Sun King Avad and take Meridian back. He identifies the leader of the Eclipse as Helis, a dangerous man who was once the Mad Sun King's champion.

Olin was recruited by the Eclipse because of his scavenging skills, and they used his family as leverage, forcing him to serve as a scout and transmitting information through his Focus. He further explains that the Eclipse are reactivating ancient machines, specifically "Corruptors" and "Deathbringers," which are much larger and more heavily armed.

Aloy realizes that she was targeted because she resembles another woman, whose image Olin found in the ruins at Maker's End. Aloy decides to spare Olin's life, instructing him to forge a new life and wait for her at the location where his family is being held.
