00:00Storm Bram has been named and is set to bring strong damaging gusts of wind in excess of 90 miles per hour for some areas,
00:08as well as further heavy rainfall on already saturated ground.
00:11So there is a risk of flooding and travel disruption.
00:14We have issued yellow and amber warnings for both wind and rain,
00:19and we are expecting impacts from Storm Bram from Monday night all the way through until the early hours of Wednesday.
00:25Storm Bram is this area of low pressure out in the Atlantic, which will rapidly deepen through Monday evening
00:32as it approaches from the southwest from the Atlantic, arriving into southwestern areas at first, moving up to the north and west.
00:40Now, it's being deepened rapidly by this intense jet stream that moves out of North America
00:45that's bringing us the continued unsettled weather that we're experiencing at the moment.
00:49Storm Bram will push up to the north and west of the UK, reaching its peak strength
00:54as it approaches northwestern areas of Scotland.
00:57So that's why we do have an amber wind warning in force.
01:00And here is where we're expecting the strongest or the highest gusts.
01:04It's not just the wind that we are expecting impacts from from Storm Bram.
01:08It is also the rain.
01:10As it approaches from the southwest through Monday night, it brings heavy rain to southwestern areas.
01:16After a fairly dry day, cloud will thicken and a band of heavy and intense rainfall will push in across southwestern areas.
01:23But overnight, it will cover much of the UK, bringing many of us a spell of very wet and very windy weather.
01:30Now, the strongest winds will continue to be throughout Tuesday as Storm Bram moves up to the north,
01:35bringing further rainfall up into northwestern areas of Scotland.
01:39And that, paired with the strong winds, could exacerbate impacts due to the wind and the rainfall.
01:45How much rain are we expecting to fall?
01:49Well, here we can see the 24-hour rainfall totals for up until the end of Tuesday night.
01:55So it's mainly through Monday night into Tuesday where we're expecting the heaviest rainfall.
02:00Then onwards, it's the winds that become the problem.
02:02But where will we see the heaviest rain?
02:06Well, as you can see from here, the brightest colours show the heaviest rain, highlighting areas of high ground across many north and western areas.
02:14So most areas will see at least 20 millimetres of rain falling across the UK.
02:19But it's the north and the west where the heaviest rain will be.
02:24And it's southwestern areas that are the most sensitive to further heavy rainfall due to the very wet autumn and winter so far that they have had.
02:32So you can see here Dartmoor and areas of south Wales could see up to 100 millimetres of rain falling throughout the course of Tuesday.
02:40But it's also areas such as north Wales, the Lake District, Cumbria, where we could see further intense rainfall.
02:45So these are the main watch points for rainfall.
02:48And we do have warnings in force for these areas.
02:51More on the warnings in just a moment.
02:53Before then, let's have a look at the strongest, where the strongest winds will be.
02:59Here you can see the gusts.
03:00We are expecting the label here is on the right hand side.
03:05You can see we are expecting Storm Bram to bring a spell of very windy weather.
03:10Quite widely, we'll see 50 mile per hour gusts falling, affecting many areas, particularly coastal areas.
03:18And this will coincide with fairly high tides as well.
03:21So we will see some quite large waves across coastal areas.
03:24But it's actually the northwest of Scotland, where Bram reaches its peak, that we'll see the highest gusts.
03:30As I said, they could reach 90 miles per hour in these areas.
03:34That's enough to bring damage and disruption.
03:37So what warnings do we have in force currently?
03:40Well, as I said, these warnings are constantly under review.
03:43But we do have warnings for wind and for rain.
03:47Let's have a look at the rain warnings that we have in force at the moment.
03:51You can see through much of southwestern areas of the UK, we have heavy rainfall warnings in force.
03:58Now, this area is worth noting in particular because there's a risk of higher impact here.
04:03As I said, this area is already sensitive to recent rainfall.
04:07So in areas such as Dartmoor and South Wales, flooding is quite likely and will likely bring potentially power cuts as well as road closures, flooding to homes as well.
04:17So if you're in these areas, please stay tuned to the warnings throughout the next 24 hours and follow the advice of the local authorities and emergency services if you do find yourself in a flooding situation.
04:27But many areas, particularly the coast with those strong winds, as I said, large waves that bring potentially disruption to coastal areas and areas such as Cumbria as well could see 60 millimetres of rainfall and parts of the central belt of Scotland could see a short lived period of heavy rainfall through Tuesday morning.
04:46That's that's where we have the rain warnings in force for the time being.
04:49But as I said, these are being constantly kept under review.
04:54The strong winds will affect many northern and western areas of the UK due to Storm Bram throughout Tuesday.
05:02And these are the wind warnings, the yellow wind warnings we have in force.
05:06As you can see, it's mainly across the north and west.
05:09Northern Ireland, as well as western Scotland, will see the highest gusts.
05:13But many inland areas could see gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour.
05:17Now, that's enough to bring down trees that could lead to road closures as well as disruption to rail and air travel.
05:24As well as ferries, many of these warnings affect areas where there are a lot of ferries around as well.
05:29The strongest gusts are expected on the through the early hours of Tuesday.
05:34And as a result, we have issued an amber wind warning for northwestern areas of Scotland for the highlands and Argyle and Butte.
05:42And here, this is where winds could exceed 90 miles per hour.
05:46That's enough to bring quite serious damage to buildings, as well as flying debris.
05:51So, all in all, it's going to be a very disruptive spell of weather through Monday night all the way through until Wednesday due to Storm Bram.
05:59And as a result, we do have yellow and amber warnings in force.
06:03These are being kept under review.
06:04So, please keep up to date through our website and app.
