00:00Why do we love 6x6s so much? What's the use case for 6x6s? Do you really need six wheels?
00:06Are these things really fun? The answers to these questions are because, what you got,
00:11yes, and finally, yes. Hey, America, I'm Anders T. Carlson, editor at UTV Driver. Today,
00:16we're going to talk about five things we love and five things we hate about the Polaris Sportsman
00:20570 6x6 Big Boss. This 570 6x6 rig started life in 2016, but Polaris 6x6 goes all the way back to
00:281989 with the Big Boss 250 6x6. A 500 variant was made from 1998 to 2010, and they even came out
00:35with an 800 Big Boss in 2013. That was actually 760 cc. All that history aside, the TLDR here is
00:42that Polaris has been in the 6x6 game a long time. In 2025, the Big Boss 6x6 got a total renovation
00:48from the 2024 model. They upgraded the chassis, making it two and a half times more rigid and
00:53strong. They updated the suspension and threw on an LED lighting system and upgraded the service
00:57intervals. They gave it a new bumper with a 3,500-pound winch, and they upgraded storage
01:02options. Even though this is a 2025 model, the 2026 model that you might pick up is going to be
01:07exactly the same in everything except maybe the VIN plate. Now, let's get into five things we love
01:12about the Polaris Sportsman 6x6 Big Boss. The first thing that we love about the 6x6 Big Boss,
01:17the wheels. Now, steelies are great for vintage Jeeps and vintage trucks and all that kind of thing.
01:22However, they are the mark of cheapness on entry-level rigs. These 14-inch aluminum wheels
01:27convey strength, lightness, and, well, not cheapness. It's a nice touch, and it's really honestly what
01:32you expect from Polaris, but as something you expect, we're going to give Polaris their propers.
01:36Nice job, Polaris. The second thing that we love about the Big Boss 6x6 are the extended service
01:41intervals. Now, this is going to sound really boring until you have forgotten to change the oil for the
01:46fifth time, or the filters, or the air filters, or the lubricants in the crankcase or gearcase.
01:51Twice the time between service intervals and maintenance means half the hassle. Less work
01:55to make your work rig do all the work things is awesome. It's like getting 15 minutes of your life
02:00back. The third thing that we love about the Big Boss 6x6 is the Bluetooth geofencing. This cool
02:06feature does three things. One, it's kind of an anti-theft device. Two, it's kind of like child-proofing
02:11your ATV or teenager-proofing it. And third, it keeps employees or underlings from taking unneeded
02:18adventures. When you pair the Big Boss to your phone, you can draw boundaries on a map, allowing
02:22you to decide where the Big Boss gets used and where the Big Boss doesn't get used. We all remember
02:26what we were like when we were 15. We did not make the smartest choices. This feature helps you decide
02:31where the Big Boss can be used and where it shouldn't. It's a great tech-forward way to idiot-proof
02:36the Big Boss. The fourth thing that we love about the Big Boss 6x6 is speed control. If you are
02:41plowing, tilling, or spraying on your property, the speed control does what your thumb can't on
02:47uneven terrain. Again, you just set the speed on your phone and send it to the rig via Bluetooth.
02:51Besides work-related tasks, the speed control keeps adventurous types from getting too adventurous.
02:56None of this stuff is rocket science stuff, but it shows that Polaris cares about the rider
03:00and the people around the rider. The fifth thing that we love about the Big Boss 6x6 are the accessories.
03:06The Yukon Adventure Rack and Colpine Rhino grips are a sign that the Big Boss 6x6 takes work
03:10seriously. They're optional accessories, but we highly recommend them. Now, Polaris's mortal enemy
03:15Can-Am has the Outlander 6x6, but while the Outlander backcountry has a great Lynx cargo system
03:21of its own, they do not have a standard rack like the Adventure Rack. And while the Lynx cargo system
03:26is very smart and well thought out, they do not offer the Yukon Adventure Rack, which we think is
03:30kind of odd. The Adventure Rack and Colpine grips are not newfangled or genius or anything. They're very
03:35old school and all that, but they're very well thought out and they're very well appreciated on this
03:39rig. But wait, there's more. Honorable mention goes to the dump bed on the Big Boss 6x6. Now,
03:44it has a hydraulic assist gas-powered shock. Now, this dump bed holds 800 pounds. And on the inside,
03:52if you'll come around here, they smartly decided to scallop the edges here. So when you're hauling out
03:56dirt or whatever with a shovel, you can get almost all of it. It doesn't get stuck in the crevices or
04:00anything else like that. Again, a small detail, but well thought out. Now, before we go any further,
04:05I would be remiss if I were not to say that you need to go down to the bottom and you need to like
04:10and subscribe to our channel. And most importantly, we love comments. Let us know how we're doing.
04:15And now, for the part that you've all been waiting for, the five things we hate about the Big Boss 6x6.
04:20The number one thing that we hate about the Big Boss 6x6 is the price. Now, $14,999 MSRP is not a bad price.
04:28It's just that you can get the Can-Am Outlander Max 6x6 for $750 less. Now, the Can-Am Outlander gets 200
04:35pounds more bed capacity, 330 pounds more towing capacity, and it gets six more ponies. The
04:40Outlander also gets a full skid plate, standard. Now, we get it. Brand loyalty is a big thing. You
04:45might be a Polaris man or woman. But on paper, the Big Boss 6x6 delivers less features and bullet
04:50points for more money. Now, the number two thing that we hate about the Big Boss 6x6 is LCD, not TFT.
04:57Now, this isn't a big deal, but we are starting to see TFTs on mid-tier and even lower-tier UTVs and
05:02ATVs. LCD screens are fine, but they're a little 2000s-ish. A TFT, or Thin Film Transistor
05:09display, kind of brings things into, like, the 2020s. They're colorful. You can read them better.
05:14They can hold more information. And honestly, they're a little cooler. We're starting to get
05:18used to them. And given the Bluetooth compatibility with your smartphone, the display lags behind a
05:23little bit. It could use a TFT. Now, the third thing that we hate about the Big Boss 6x6 is no
05:28locking front diff. The all-wheel drive system is great and all, but there's no locking front
05:31differential for when things get really gnarly. Now, the on-demand all-wheel drive system only
05:35sends power to either wheel when it detects slip. In other words, it's a computer chip demanding that
05:41you send power to the front wheels, not so much you. As a lot of expert riders know, having a
05:45locking front diff is a great thing so that you can lock up the front before you hit the gnarly stuff.
05:49Now, the fourth thing we hate about the Big Boss 6x6, it's a thumper, not a twin. So, the liquid-cooled
05:55single-cylinder 567cc ProStar engine is a workhorse. Great torque, and they pull for days, but not
06:02necessarily miles. A proper twin would let the Big Boss stretch its legs and let riders enjoy wide
06:07open spaces a bit more. We're not asking for a sporty 6x6 like the Outlander Max 1000R and a proper
06:13twin would let the Big Boss kind of live up to its name a bit more, especially if it had an extra low
06:18gear, which it does not have, like the Outlander Max Backcountry does. Now, the fifth and final thing
06:22that we hate about the Big Boss 6x6 is I hate that there's nothing left to hate. We really like this
06:28rig a lot. Now, we call all of our reviews 5x5s, not 5x4s or 5x3s. We are stuck with the format where
06:35we have to come up with five things we hate, and I kind of hate that. That's actually a great segue
06:39into talking about who this rig is for. The Polaris Sportsman 6x6 570 Big Boss is a great rig. It'll do
06:46all the things that you want it to do. And while you could put on your grandpa glasses and start reading
06:50the spec sheet and see where it measures up and where it does measure up, the fact of the matter
06:54is this thing works hard. It is fun as certain words we can't actually say on this channel,
06:59and it gets the job done. This rig is for anybody who wants to work hard and have a giant solid
07:04platform, an extra axle, to really give you the stability that you need to haul lots and lots and
07:09lots of whatever it is you're working on through gnarly terrain, through ruts and uncertain surfaces.
07:14This thing has a stability that can't be matched by anything with four wheels. It's solid,
07:19dependable. It's from an industry leader. It's a proven tech. It's a proven platform. It'll do
07:23everything you need it to do. If you need a fifth man for the job, this is the rig for you.
