00:00I might hit that to the right, time is dance, I'm making shine, let's come see the eyes
00:22Well, wrestling fans, we welcome you to our main event in Hiroshima tonight, courtesy of NJPW World.
00:37It is time for the War Dragon, Shingo Takagi and Drill Maloney to take on Vichron, Turoki Goto, and Yoshihashi.
00:44I'm Walker Stewart, and I'll tell you right now, the boss talk sitting to my left, David Finley, joining English broadcast for our main event.
00:51David, it has been a great night for you already to see Gabe, Kid, and Yodosuji secure a semifinal spot as the de facto second place team in this year's World Tag League for Block A.
01:04But a bigger opportunity to come now for a junior heavyweight turned heavyweight in the Bullet Club, Drill Maloney, competing in his first ever World Tag League,
01:13might be ready to compete in his first World Tag League semifinal, and to do so alongside one of the heaviest hitters in New Japan, that's Shingo Takagi.
01:22My boys get results. What more can I say? One thing to watch out for, Drill Maloney, he gets that Drill-A-Killer, it's done. Same over. The most devastating move in wrestling.
01:32Look at how jacked, dude.
01:42Look at how jacked, dude.
01:42Look at how jacked, dude.
01:42Look at how jacked, dude.
01:44Drill Maloney!
01:45David, it's hard to believe this man was ever a junior heavyweight by the looks of him.
01:51We might have fudged the numbers a little bit.
01:53Finally, someone admits it.
01:55Eight points on the board for Drill Maloney and the Rampage Dragon.
02:07The Rampage Dragon, Takadi Shingo!
02:18You ever seen Shingo's Instagram?
02:19I have not, no.
02:20That man loves a selfie, dude.
02:22Oh, I try not to believe it.
02:23Loves a selfie.
02:24I'm sure he snapped a few at Drill Maloney over the course of this tour.
02:27Yeah.
02:28Yeah.
03:28You can not talk about tag team wrestling in the modern day of 2025 without talking about these two men right here. Five-time World Tag League winner, Hiroki Goto. Three times alongside one another, Hiroki Goto and Yoshihashi. Bishima ought to compete for the top spot in Block A for this year's tournament.
03:56I got one question. Why does Yoshihashi always look like he's shocked at where he's at when he arrives places? Like, you know, his entry is just like, oh, oh, oh, it's my dude, I'm wrestling now?
04:08Well, that's a very specific question.
04:13Well, not what I exactly have an answer for, but nevertheless, Yoshihashi and Hiroki Goto on eight points here.
04:20And it will not be a shocking conclusion for these two men inside their own mind if Bishima walk away with the win.
04:26As perpetually unsure as Yoshihashi looks, he's a hell of a wrestler.
04:36I got to give it to him.
04:37I got to give it to him.
04:41I got to give it to him.
04:42I got to give it to him.
04:46Gotoh, Hiroki!
04:53I really want Gotoh to lose just so his kids cry again.
04:56Referee, red shoes, UNNO.
05:00It is our main event set here tonight in Hiroshima.
05:07Bishima, Hiroki Goto, and Yoshihashi take on the War Dragons.
05:10Drill Maloney and Shingo Takagi, both teams on eight points.
05:14Both teams also cornered by Young Lions.
05:17There's the unaffiliated Daikinagai in the red corner here tonight.
05:21The newest member of what they're calling the Goto Revolutionary Army, Tatsuya Matsumoto out of the Doge Dojo.
05:27He's got an army of how many? Three people?
05:36That's not even a squad, bro.
05:38Well, you can take that up with Goto yourself.
05:41You know, I know that you still, well, certainly.
05:46Bell sounds are officially underway.
05:48It's a one fall, 30-minute time limit.
05:52You know, I'm starting to feel a little bit of a sore spot for you, David.
05:56Maybe coming off the back of your unsuccessful world title challenge.
06:00You don't have to bring it up, Walker.
06:01Well, it's certainly a point to make.
06:04I know that you're going to have a bias no matter what toward the blue corner here tonight.
06:08Shingo Takagi and Drill Maloney take on Goto and Yoshihashi.
06:12Here's something I want to talk to you about as we get into the opening moments of this matchup.
06:16You know, you and Hiru Takahashi kind of struggled to get along a little bit throughout this year's World Tag League.
06:21We're starting to see the issues between Gabe Kidd and Yodosuji.
06:24I'll tell you right now, Shingo Takagi and Drill Maloney feel right as rain.
06:27I mean, these two men have truly seemed to find the respect for one another, and it's stuck throughout the whole tournament.
06:33Yeah, it's working better for them than it is Gabe and myself.
06:36But, you know, sometimes you've got to just trust the process.
06:43It was Joe Maloney who made his transition from the junior heavyweight to the heavyweight division in New Japan.
06:49Off the back of Shingo Takagi, put him down in Osaka.
06:52Put down Takagi in G1 Climax, the New Japan Cup as well, I believe.
06:57So, there are a lot of encounters between these two men.
06:59And, well, Takagi is certainly one to recognize talent when it's there,
07:02and Joe Maloney, a hell of a lot at 28 years old.
07:05Absolutely.
07:06Why do you think I recruited him?
07:07Can we talk about how good I am of a talent scout?
07:09Oh, wow.
07:10Of, like, picking up all these guys that were kind of in obscurity and dojo purgatory, you know, stuck in empire.
07:16And I'm like, yo, let's go.
07:18And then everyone becomes champions.
07:20Everyone rises to the top.
07:22All because of me.
07:23We could fill a whole broadcast with you talking up that storm.
07:26We should, dude.
07:27Maybe one day.
07:28You got a podcast?
07:29We do, actually.
07:31I don't want to do it.
07:32I don't want to do it.
07:33I thought that was going to be a no.
07:34I'm sorry about that.
07:35NJPW official English podcast.
07:37Nevertheless, it's Joe Maloney and Yoshihashi here tying up.
07:42Bishima, a 4-2 record.
07:43War Dragons, a 4-2 record.
07:46It has been a hell of a winning streak for the War Dragons, more so than Bishima.
07:49Won their last three matches.
07:51And that really is a sign that Takagi and Maloney have put everything together that they feel they need to go into the semifinal spot.
07:58And to now be battling for the top position in Block A, Joe Maloney in his first ever World Tag League.
08:07Come on.
08:07Let's go.
08:08Whoa, whoa, whoa.
08:09First G1 this year, first World Tag League this year.
08:12And we certainly know as a member of the Bullet Club, Maloney.
08:17You can just call us War Dogs, bro.
08:19Yeah.
08:19IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champion alongside Clark Connors at one point.
08:24Good.
08:26Joe Maloney has never won a Tag League, whether it be Junior or Heavyweight in his career.
08:31And could be on the road to doing so in 2025.
08:34You don't need to win the league if you've already been the champion, you know what I mean?
08:37Yeah, that's a good point.
08:38Sounds good, but the championship means way more.
08:45David, I'm sure you can speak for experience.
08:51Yoshihashi, some of the hardest chops you're going to find.
08:54The hardest, I don't know how he does it, but it's like getting hit with a whip.
08:57I don't understand the physics behind how he does it.
09:00I've tried.
09:01I'm not really a chopper.
09:04I'm more of a just hit you as hard as I can with everything else I have or throw you around.
09:08But yeah.
09:09As watch now, Gotoh and Yoshihashi working like a well oiled machine here tonight.
09:17And Gotoh going to take the shot to Takagi.
09:20It is the Gotoh Revolutionary Army.
09:22And the beats of the revolution have come here on Meloni.
09:25I mean, the results show they are the most successful tag team we have in this company.
09:32World Tag League's 2021, 2022, 2023, multiple time IWGP Tag Team Champions, Gotoh and Yoshihashi.
09:41And easily earmarked at the beginning of this tournament as, by far and away, the most experienced team to enter.
09:48Absolutely.
09:48Absolutely.
09:49Missed out on the finals in 2024.
09:54That being also thanks to the War Dogs at the time.
09:58Yes, sir.
10:02And there it is.
10:03Gotoh now who makes the tag back into the red corner.
10:08So much the focus for Hiroki Gotoh in 2025, David, being over the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
10:13And now, Gotoh, without the World Heavyweight Title, in no position to challenge for the World Title anytime soon.
10:19It almost feels as though Gotoh going back to what can be considered a comfort zone for him in the tag team division with Yoshihashi.
10:25Yeah, you know, sometimes when you don't have a claim to what you actually want, you've got to take the opportunity where it is.
10:32And whether it's his comfort zone or not, I think it's just where he's got the opportunity right now.
10:37It's Maloney.
10:39Bam, big dropkick there on Hiroki Gotoh.
10:43Watch Drilla has not lost a step.
10:45Absolutely not.
10:47That added size from junior heavyweight to heavyweight, and I feel like Maloney's become somehow even more agile.
10:52The man's a freak athlete.
10:55Yeah, we're seeing it.
10:57Ooh, it's Yoshihashi and Gotoh taking it into the steel barricades.
11:03Oh, things are getting dangerous here.
11:05A battle all around the arena tonight, Hiroshima Sun Plaza Hall.
11:09You know, I get the pound for pound strongest label a lot, but I feel like we're undercutting Maloney when we say that.
11:14I think it's a coin toss between the two of us.
11:17Yeah.
11:18Freakishly strong.
11:19Yeah, you're seeing it.
11:20I mean, you can see the muscle definition right in front of us, right here at the English booth, and Hiroki Gotoh.
11:26Looking worse for wear here.
11:28You know, you yourself, and I understand it was during your own days at the Nogia Dojo as a young lion, but making the transition from junior heavyweight to heavyweight,
11:48it's a very difficult task to undertake.
11:51Drew Maloney takes on a whole new level of competition in the heavyweight division compared to his past few years here in New Zealand.
11:58He's excelled in the transition.
11:59It's very hard because he used to lighter guys, you know, and with that comes, they're faster, but they don't hit as hard.
12:05You know, they don't pick you up and throw you as much, but when you're in heavy, I mean, they don't have super, like a super junior.
12:10Right.
12:11But you have a super heavyweight, you know what I mean?
12:12Yes, sure.
12:13Like there's not a cap.
12:14Right.
12:15You know, it's really impressive to see Maloney going from being the heaviest man in the junior division, bar none, really pushing that 100-kilogram weight limit, to now being, well, maybe not just one of the biggest, but maybe one of the smaller ones in comparison to men like Shuji Ishikawa being in this block.
12:32I mean, it's a very different ballgame.
12:34Yeah.
12:35We got a lot of big boys.
12:37We got Ishikawa, we got Oscar, we got Falle, you know?
12:41But it doesn't really face really.
12:46Get him up in the Drilla Killer, no problem.
12:49Yeah, you're certainly right about that.
12:51As Maloney up and down the knee drop, cover for Takagi.
12:55Two count only, says Shingo.
12:58And that's Senton to follow up in a big way.
13:00Shingo not letting Gotoh breathe for a second.
13:02Shingo doesn't seem to ever get tired, the man's got a gas tank from hell, dude.
13:11This is something I was going to bring up about both of these men, and it goes back to the last time I remember Takagi and Hiroki Gotoh in a major high-profile match, that being their battle for the world heavyweight title when Gotoh defended successfully against Takagi.
13:24These two men masters of controlling time inside the ring, it's a very difficult skill to master.
13:30Yeah, you got to pick your spades, it's like running a marathon, you know, when you're in a title fight, you don't start out sprinting and sprint the whole time, you'll gas out, you lose all your energy, you get weak, so you got to pick and choose your spots where you're going to put the pedal to the metal.
13:44That is something Jerome Maloney has certainly come into as well in his own time, and now putting the pressure into the midsection of Gotoh.
13:53Takagi with a little cheeky assist there.
13:55And the tag made again, Shingo, your legal man.
14:02I will say out of all the unaffiliated members, Shingo is the most dog-like, he's got an edge to him, and I like it.
14:08I've heard that bark of Hiromu Takahashi, I mean, that man's got some dog in him.
14:12Well, today was the first time he actually got the timing right, couldn't even figure that out.
14:17I'm just glad he wasn't meowing, he likes cats way too much.
14:20Good lord.
14:21The dog in Hiromu is more of a chihuahua at points, but.
14:25Yeah, never thought of it that way, but yeah, can't disagree.
14:28Yeah.
14:29Shingo takes the shot to Yoshihashi off the apron, and now it is Takagi on Gotoh.
14:34Gonna call some plays with Maloney tonight as well.
14:39The winner of this matchup will be marked A1, the top competitor,
14:44competitive team in block A.
14:47Bam, look at that.
14:49Wrinkle in the arsenal, cover here for Maloney and Takagi, and it's two.
14:54Maloney and Shingo have probably been the best out of the collaboration teams with the teamwork.
15:01Yeah, certainly so, we are feeling it right now.
15:04Gotoh and Yoshihashi are feeling it more than any of us in Hiroshima though.
15:07Wow, and just really putting the pressure in on Gotoh now.
15:23He knows he's in control, so he can take his time.
15:27I think that there's some of Joe Maloney that's rubbed up on Shingo.
15:31Takagi getting a little bit louder mouth recently.
15:37Well, the War Dogs have been known to corrupt.
15:39Well, Takagi's able to back it up, but Gotoh's gonna try and knock it out of him.
15:44Gotoh in a bad position here.
15:46Watch it, watch it on the shoulders, Yoshihashi.
15:50Knee right to the back.
15:55I'm assuming Shingo's probably feeling tingles down his arms and in his hands.
16:01That's usually what happens to me.
16:03It does not feel good.
16:05Those tingles are gonna put Takagi at bay right now.
16:08Gotoh makes the tag to the red corner.
16:11Here comes the headhunter, Yoshihashi.
16:13Yoshihashi now neck breaker down on Takagi.
16:27And that is yet another pressure on the neck.
16:30And Shingo Takagi goes, pins and needles have to be felt right now.
16:38Fishamon working with a game plan, attacking that.
16:41No communication needed, they just know each other.
16:44For as long as these men have been competing in World Tag League.
16:46Did you hear that? I have, I did.
16:47That's Yoshihashi hanging up Shingo Takagi to dry tonight.
16:59Watch Yoshihashi now, big dropkick in Takagi.
17:03A little sense of the spin cycle as well, cover.
17:06And Yoshihashi it too.
17:11Come on.
17:12Come on.
17:13Come on.
17:13Come on.
17:14Come on, come on.
17:15Come on.
17:15Come on, come on.
17:16Come on, come on, come on.
17:20Come on, come on.
17:22Come on.
17:24Come on, come on, come on.
17:28Yoshihashi and Hiroki Gotoh, their seventh year entering the World Tag League
17:32Tournament alongside one another.
17:34Three, two, three, three.
17:35Could this be yet another year for the history books?
17:37Shiko got the back elbow, right hand lifted in, Gotoh with the interception.
17:45These two men might be looking to turn out the lights in Hiroshima.
18:00No, but Maloney comes in for the interception, David.
18:03Yeah, good time to save that.
18:05And Gotoh with a lariat.
18:08There are a few that throw him better than the former world champion.
18:12Very few, very few.
18:15Now it's Takagi finds his way out of Bishamon and a double lariat.
18:19There might be the guy that throws it better.
18:21Yeah, maybe so.
18:22I don't know,
18:26both of them feel like they're getting hit by a truck.
18:28Yeah, certainly.
18:29There it's a stiff arm from Hiroki Gotoh or
18:36a pumping bomber from Shingo Takagi.
18:39We could be looking close to the end of this match here.
18:44Takagi feeling himself.
18:45Look at the windup on Shingo's elbows.
19:04He's done with everything he's got.
19:06Everything in the world, in the corner of Shingo, in the corner of Yoshihashi.
19:12All the pressure of expectation.
19:14And Shingo,
19:22Shingo still remembers that five minute loss to Yoshihashi in G1.
19:27Shingo wants to win his first World Tag League.
19:29Watch Shingo here.
19:34No, neither man goes down.
19:37Yoshihashi wins out.
19:39And Takagi bounces back in a major way.
19:42There is a rumble in Hiroshima tonight.
19:48Everyone's gonna be looking for the tag right here, David.
19:53Gotoh and Drilla looking to get in.
19:58Do we make it?
20:04They're both in.
20:04They got it, Meloni and Gotoh now, one on one.
20:07No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
20:23Meloni, Meloni has really been favoring that ripcord chop.
20:34And it's been working to his advantage so far, but Gotoh try and turn it around.
20:39Straight through the canvas goes Hiroki Gotoh.
20:44You know what Meloni's looking for now, David.
20:49Yes, I do, there we go.
20:54Deep shoulder in the corner, Meloni drives out Gotoh again.
20:59Looking for the cover here tonight.
21:02And nearly, but nearly will not be enough to call yourself the top tournament team in block A.
21:08Unfortunately, it's gonna take more than that to put down the former world champion.
21:12But I know what will do it.
21:16Yeah, and Meloni knows as well, gonna test ride the power game with Adrilla Killa maybe, but.
21:22That's not a place you wanna be in.
21:25Cornered up by Yoshihashi.
21:28And Gotoh off the corner.
21:31Gotoh, Gotoh Shiki, cover for Gotoh, two.
21:37Fish monitor is so quick with the combinations.
21:43And you've entered seven world tag leagues alongside one another.
21:46You've won three of them together.
21:47You certainly know what you're doing in that ring.
21:49Yes, here you go.
21:51Gotoh and Yoshihashi now want Shoto.
21:53That would be lights out for Meloni.
21:55A little bit of payback there.
22:01And a lot of the Japanese wrestlers will refuse to throw punches because they think it's dirty fighting.
22:20But I like that Shingo does it anyways.
22:21Yeah, that's Wardog style, isn't it?
22:25Cover broken up by Meloni or by Yoshihashi again.
22:29Now Meloni has Gotoh where he wants him.
22:33Takagi on Yoshihashi here.
22:34Yeah, referee Red Shizuno gonna try his hardest,
22:38but he's not gonna be able to keep control tonight.
22:39You know what's coming now.
22:46Well, we've seen it a time or two before.
22:49Double elbows.
22:50In stereo, Takagi go to elbow from Joel Meloni.
22:57Cover.
22:59Still not enough to put down Hiroki Gotoh.
23:03And the time has come tonight for Meloni and Takagi, the War Dragons breathing fire.
23:19And Hiroshima Sunplaza Hall looking to fly alongside the Dragons here.
23:29Smart move going back to our corner, or their corner rather.
23:37Yeah, right, right, right.
23:38And Meloni and Takagi now.
23:40They call it the War Dragon.
23:44It's what they've used to put so many points on the board.
23:48And it could be what advances up to Ted.
23:51Takagi.
23:52Gore.
23:54Threw Gotoh off, popping him up.
23:56Gore from Meloni.
23:59And this might be the closing deal here for the War of Dragons.
24:02That's it.
24:03That's it.
24:03Take it home, boys.
24:04It is.
24:05Take it home, boys.
24:06War of Dragons.
24:07What did I tell you?
24:08What did I tell you?
24:09No.
24:11No.
24:12Wow.
24:14Yoshihashi in for the interception.
24:16Stop, stop, stop.
24:19Oh, that was a rare mistake from Shingo Takagi to not be covering a corner there.
24:26Meloni and Takagi try and keep it rolling now.
24:35All right, finishing off then.
24:36Meloni out of the corner here to put down a former world champion.
24:45Gore.
24:50No.
24:53And it's still not enough.
24:58Gotoh and Yoshihashi, two of the most resilient men you're gonna find in New Japan today.
25:04Very hard to put them down and keep them down.
25:07Meloni and Takagi have to find a way to break the armor.
25:10And I think it's starting to crack.
25:12Sometimes they're too stupid for their own good.
25:15They don't know when to quit.
25:16There you go, that's it though, that's, wow, no.
25:18That's an armor-piercing move, but Gotoh and Yoshihashi.
25:20No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
25:25Breaking the code tonight is Yoshihashi.
25:28There are bodies all over the ring right now, David.
25:34And I know you hate to see it, but it's still anybody's ball game.
25:38Yeah, unfortunately so.
25:40My pick hasn't changed though.
25:41We are past the 20 minute mark.
25:51If we go to a 30 minute time limit, I have no idea what our brackets are gonna look like by the end.
25:56That'll really throw it off, won't it?
25:58It certainly will.
26:01Gotoh and Yoshihashi.
26:05Meloni, take it out here.
26:08Takagi breaking it up again.
26:10Card stamp to the back.
26:17We've seen Takagi before, a one-man wrecking group, but you're facing two of the very best.
26:22Dragon suplex from Yoshihashi.
26:26Takagi's still standing, but not for long.
26:41Gotoh and Yoshihashi masters of movement, Bob and Weave in and out.
26:45Jules in trouble, Jules in trouble.
26:47No, no, no, no, no.
26:48Where she can go.
26:49Where she can go.
26:50Gotoh from the top, taking down Meloni.
26:54Cover here for Bishamon.
26:56Kick, kick, kick, kick.
26:57Charge.
26:58Whoa, wow.
26:59There we go, Meloni.
27:00And it might be coming to an end right here now.
27:09You gotta get out of that, you gotta get out of that.
27:10Shoto lights out.
27:15And it's come to an end for the War Dragons.
27:19As much as it sucks, can't be mad at that loss.
27:31That was a hard fought battle.
27:32No more men not able to stand.
27:37Yeah, that's just, it's an absolute battlefield that we've seen.
27:43And the war has been gone too tonight.
27:47And it's time for the troops to go back home.
27:52No more points available in this year's World Tag League in Block A.
27:57Our final standings are exactly that, it's final.
28:01Bishamon, Hiroki Goto, and Yoshihashi, your top team in A Block this year.
28:07In the final match of the World Tag League in the World Tag League 2020,
28:14A Block is a champion of the World Tag League in the World Tag League in the World Tag League.
28:26It just goes to show you the weight that having more experience carries.
28:32I don't think the better team won, I think the more experienced team won tonight.
28:35I'll tell you right now, and I know you're the boss dog.
28:40I know that you're the man who calls the shots within the War Dogs.
28:42I'll tell you here, Joel Maloney and Shingo Takagi keep up at this team.
28:47It would not shock me at all if a semi-final spot was had for Takagi Maloney in 2026 World Tag League.
28:53Nah, I see them winning it.
28:54I could see them winning the tag titles within the next year easily.
28:58It was a tournament not to be for Maloney and Takagi.
29:05I mean, it took Goto and Yoshihashi with all their experience.
29:12Almost 30 minutes to put my boys down.
29:17Almost a time limit draw.
29:18But unfortunately, they got the job done.
29:24And the official announcement has come from Abe-san here tonight.
29:34Shiko Takagi and Joel Maloney are dunked for eight points on the board.
29:38The top score for Maloney and Takagi.
29:42And your top of Block A, Bishima, Tukoto, and Yoshihashi.
29:47Your second in Block A, Gabe Kidd and Yodosuji still a highlight of your night, David.
