00:00So we added the skateboard in High on Life 2. It's a new concept for the game that was such
00:10a huge swing for us and we weren't sure we were gonna pull it off. In the first game,
00:15traversal was a big part of what we wanted you to feel as a bounty hunter, right? You're running
00:20around, you've got this sweet suit, you're this regular earth kid, but now you've become something
00:24more. And in this one, we just had kind of a dumb idea, which was like, hey, we should put you on
00:31a skateboard. And then we built it and we're like, hey, this is really cool, but it's like really cool
00:36and maybe we should do more with it. And don't I want to shoot a gun while I'm skating? And don't
00:40I want to kick that into someone's face? The skateboard is honestly the coolest new
00:45thing we put in the game. Every time I play, I'm like, oh my god, this rules.
00:48We have a lot of design challenges because of our ambition. And I think I got to call out the
00:59skateboard as the toughest one to crack. The skating mechanic was a total design.
01:05We've gone through probably a hundred different variations of the skate mechanic.
01:09We wanted to cut it at one point. I was pushing to cut it, even though I love skateboarding. Now,
01:16I can't imagine the game without it. You know, it's such a big part of the game now.
01:21It became so vital to the game that we designed everything else around the skateboard.
01:27Sound designing the skateboard was like a lot of fun.
01:31Let's go on ahead. Sure thing. We made it out.
01:33We wanted to bring out like every little movement that you do, like, you know, pedaling,
01:38you're doing jumps, you're doing tricks. So we tried to make those sounds a bit more
01:42beefier than life. Oh my god. Oh, I'm dizzy.
01:47So in Highland Life 2, you could use the skateboard as a weapon. It's actually a major weapon for you.
01:52You can just kick it off and slam it into people's faces.
01:54It's really silly, which makes it really fun. But at the same time, it's so fluid that you don't
02:01really notice the controls. You're just kind of doing what you feel like is normal combat. And then in reality,
02:06you're doing all this crazy stuff with the skateboard that people watching look at it and they say,
02:12Holy crap. How did you do that? Where we ended up with the skateboard is so amazing that I'm just
02:19really proud. I'm really proud of what the team did. The risk was huge. And we finally put it into
02:24people's hands and we were terrified and it ended up being really cool. And that was really heartwarming
02:31because it was such a big, scary, risky feature for us.
