00:00Padang Serai MP Datuk Azman Nasruddin pleaded not guilty in the Shah Alam Sessions Court to
00:06a charge of abetting in a RM400,000 corruption case involving the Kedah state-owned cattle
00:13farming joint venture project five years ago. 53-year-old Azman made the plea after the charge
00:19was read out before Judge Datuk Muhammad Nasir Norden on Monday. The father of five was accused
00:25of abetting businessman Amar Asuat Abu Bakar in accepting a RM400,000 bribe from Mohamed
00:32Hassan Naim Fauzi. The payment was allegedly given as a reward for assisting Mohamed Hassan Naim
00:38in securing a joint venture beef cattle farming project at the Ladang Feedlot Kurda Agro from
00:44Kurda Agro Holdings Berhad KAHB. Azman is accused of directing the KAHB Chief Executive Officer
00:52to issue a letter of offer to Mohamed Hassan Naim for the project. The offence was allegedly
00:57committed in Bandar Baru Bangi at 5 p.m. on June 23, 2020. The charge was framed under Section 28,
01:06subsection 1c of the MACC Act 2009, read together with Section 16, subsection a. Meanwhile, 41-year-old
01:15Amar Asuat claimed trial under Section 16, subsection a of the MACC Act for soliciting and
01:22taking bribes. If convicted, both Azman and Amar Asuat face up to 20 years in jail and a fine five
01:29times the amount of the bribe received. The court allowed bail at 75,000 ringgit in one local surety
01:36each and ordered both accused to surrender their passports. The case was fixed for re-mention on
01:42January 13. One of Azman's lawyers, N. Surendran, informed the court that the defense intends to
01:49file an application to strike out the charge before the re-mention date.
01:53First step, we will apply to strike it out, right? So we're going to file in the High Court
01:58to strike this charge out on grounds that it is an abuse of process. On those grounds,
02:05we're going to strike it out. Speaking to the press after posting bail,
02:09Azman, a three-term MP from Bersatu, said the abetment charge made against him is politically motivated.
02:16I believe this is a claim that there is a claim that there is a claim that there is a claim that
02:23because I was told by someone else that the case may be a claim that he may be a claim in January or February.
02:31He was also surprised. Sometimes he was a claim that he was a claim that he was the same with me.
02:35Meaning that there is a claim that there is a claim that was to close the case-case that happened in a week or two.
02:42It was reported earlier that the MACC began its investigations into the case
03:09after a complaint was lodged on February 10. Statements from 15 witnesses were recorded.
