00:00Just look at me, not with your eyes, but theirs.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for the moments in Wicked for Good that had us weeping buckets.
00:13We will be discussing plot points, including changes from the stage show, so this is your spoiler warning.
00:26Number 10. The Girl in the Bubble.
00:29Following the March of the Witch Hunters, Glinda is finally forced to truly look at herself in the mirror.
00:36Is Good just a title she wears as an accessory, like her bubble? Or is it something she actually wants to be?
00:51The way the scene is shot is gorgeous, with the audience repeatedly glimpsing Glinda through her reflection,
00:57mirroring her performance of goodness for her adoring public and her true self,
01:01which feels almost lost in this house of mirrors.
01:04Technically, it was just such a massive assignment,
01:08from making sure each step that I took matched on either side of the filming,
01:13and then emotionally it had to line up, and vocally it had to line up.
01:15Still, we see she's always held on to some of who she was, even if it's hidden away.
01:20Ariana Grande sings it with such sincerity that you can't help but feel moved.
01:24The girl in the middle of a pink, shiny bubble,
01:31it's time for her bubble to pop.
01:35Number 9. Elphaba finds Dr. Dillamond.
01:39After Glinda and the Wizard almost convince Elphaba to join them in being wonderful,
01:43Chistory points her toward a secret passage where the wizard has been keeping animals in cages.
01:48Elphaba had a premonition of this in Part 1, but that doesn't soften the blow.
01:55Take it away!
02:01What is it?
02:04She spots her old professor among the imprisoned animals,
02:07and learns he's lost his ability to speak,
02:10despite his promise to never stop speaking out.
02:12They can take away my job, but I shall continue speaking out!
02:16Listen to me! You're not being told the whole story!
02:20It's heartbreaking to see Dr. Dillamond stripped of everything that made him who he was.
02:24Seeing her former mentor this way breaks Elphaba,
02:27sharpening her resolve against the wizard.
02:30We might have known it was coming, but that didn't stop it from hurting us, too.
02:34It's you.
02:36You're behind all of this.
02:38Number 8. The Wizard always wanted to be a father.
02:41Perhaps the one thing the wizard ever said that might hold any truth,
02:45is that he always wanted to be a father.
02:47I am a sentimental man,
02:50who always longed to be
02:52a father.
02:55And the only reason we believe that
02:57is his reaction when he learns that Chance had been in front of him all along,
03:01and he had doused it with a bucket of water.
03:03Turns out that drinking green elixirs results in green babies.
03:07We'll have another drink of green elixir,
03:10and we'll have ourselves a little mixer.
03:13Have another little subtle little mixer,
03:16and follow me down.
03:18You can almost see every reckless decision he ever made.
03:23Fueled by greed and ambition,
03:25flash before his eyes as he considers the ultimate cost of it all.
03:28The wizard is hardly a sympathetic character,
03:31but in this moment,
03:32his grief feels very real.
03:34You know, we could be like a family.
03:37You know, I've never really had a family.
03:39Lucky you.
03:40That's why I've wanted to give the citizens of Oz
03:42everything.
03:44Number 7.
03:45No place like home.
03:46Many of us can relate to not feeling like we belong somewhere that should feel like home.
03:51But perhaps no one knows that ache like Elphaba and the animals,
03:54who now feel they have no choice but to flee Oz.
03:57Why do I love this place
03:59that's never loved me?
04:04But there's no place like home.
04:10Dulce Bear,
04:11perhaps the only one who ever made Elphaba feel like she belongs,
04:15is among them.
04:16A heartbreaking reminder of everything she's lost.
04:18It's all right, little one.
04:21Shh.
04:22Look after you.
04:24In this song about belonging,
04:26Elphaba questions why she's fighting so hard for a place that has always othered her.
04:31No place like home becomes a powerful call to fight for a world we can all live in.
04:35Cynthia Erivo shared that everyone was in tears filming it.
04:39And honestly,
04:40us too.
04:40It's them who we'll be defeating
04:43If we keep on repeating
04:46There's no place like home
04:50Number 6.
04:52I'm Not That Girl Reprise
04:54Fierro and Elphaba are reunited after an animal stampede crashes his and Glinda's wedding.
04:59After some tension, Elphaba learns that, thankfully, Fierro isn't as easily brainwashed as the rest of Oz.
05:06For a while there, I thought you changed.
05:09I have changed.
05:11When Glinda walks in, she's dealt a devastating blow.
05:15What she believed would be the happiest day of her life becomes one of her worst.
05:18She realizes she never truly had Fierro's heart, and now believes the two people she loves most have betrayed her.
05:26Don't wish
05:27Long start
05:30Wishingly wounds the heart
05:37As she walks through the setting that should have marked the start of her happily ever after,
05:42Glinda's heartache feels so authentic that we have to believe Grande was pulling from something very real and very painful.
05:48And we feel it all.
05:49I'm not that girl
05:55Number 5.
06:04The Face-Off in Munchkinland
06:06This time, it's Elphaba's turn to feel betrayed, thinking Glinda orchestrated Nessa's death to capture her.
06:12I'm a public figure now. People expect me to fly.
06:15Be encouraging.
06:17Fortunately, Fierro shows up just in time.
06:20Demanding they let the green girl go by threatening Glinda's life.
06:23She's devastated, of course, but trusts he would never actually hurt her.
06:28Proving it by moving so that the barrel of his gun is aimed at her face.
06:31You can't resist this.
06:33Who could?
06:34You know who could.
06:35It's almost like she's testing whether his love for Elphaba is more real than the love he ever claimed to have for her.
06:42For Glinda, this is a brutal reality check.
06:45Shattering the illusion of whatever she believed she and Fierro shared.
06:48Even so, she clearly hasn't stopped caring for him.
06:52There's a girl I know
06:56He loves her
07:00So
07:01Number 4. No Good Deed
07:04We all had high hopes for this showstopper, and wow, did Erivo deliver.
07:09No Good Deed picks up right after the scene we just discussed.
07:26With Elphaba thinking about how her attempts to do good somehow ended up hurting the people she cares about.
07:31We know that's not totally true, but the emotion in every lyric gave us chills from the first Elika Nama Naman to the very last note.
07:39Between the flashbacks and shots of Fierro in the field, the words hit even harder.
07:56She sings with so much power, hurt, and frustration that if she'd been in the room, we would have given her a standing ovation to rival the total movie runtime.
08:05Since I can't succeed, Fierro saving you, I promise no good deed, will I attempt to do again, ever again!
08:17Number 3. As Long As You're Mine
08:19On stage, this is probably the show's steamiest moment, but in the movie, they slow things down, with Elphaba still needing a little time to let her guard down.
08:29Kiss me too fiercely, hold me too tight, I need help believing, you're with me tonight.
08:46Apparently, Jonathan Bailey improvised that moment where he takes off her cape to show her she's safe with him.
08:51The whole scene becomes this slow, careful peeling back of emotional layers,
08:55letting the audience really feel Elphaba's hesitation, her longing, and finally her euphoria.
09:10Since she says she can't believe Fierro chose her, it makes sense that she needs time to let that sink in.
09:16The levitation is a sign that Elphi has finally accepted the joy of being truly seen and loved.
09:21And it's beautiful.
09:22As Long As You're Mine
09:26Number 2. The Finale
09:34We thought we'd single-handedly cause a global tissue shortage watching the finale.
09:39Seeing Glinda fulfill Elphaba's heart's desire was beautifully satisfying.
09:42My heart's desire is for you to help the animals.
09:46Something bad is happening to them and they need you.
09:48Then seeing familiar faces from The Sugar Glider to Dr. Dillamond broke us.
09:52Then there was Glinda walking up the stairs with the Grimmery to the same place where she and Elphaba made their choices all that time ago.
09:59I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason.
10:07Seeing the Grimmery open for her after she vowed to truly live up to the name Good was the next moment that took us down.
10:13I'd like to try to be Glinda the Good.
10:17Finally, that closing shot, recreating the show poster, was the final straw.
10:22Sorry, Fierro.
10:24It was a good thing the movie ended there because we probably couldn't see or hear anything more after that anyway.

10:57Number 1. For Good
10:59It's no secret that our leading ladies formed a tight bond behind the scenes.
11:03But I know I'm who I am today because I knew you
11:10When they sing what's already the emotional heart of the soundtrack, it really feels like Cynthia and Ari are sharing the moment just as much as Alphaba and Glinda.
11:18They filmed multiple versions, and John M. Chu ended up choosing the quietest, most honest one, stripping away all the bells and whistles so the audience can experience every emotion with them.
11:28And just when we thought we might never recover, we get that final, heartbreaking I love you as they become separated by the door.
11:45A moment they apparently improvised.
11:47It's a farewell that's sure to stay with the audience, for good.
11:51Which Wicked For Good moment will stay with you like a handprint on your heart?
