00:00when tackling wicked we always ask ourselves what are the stories that we want to tell our

00:07next generation how do we want to present the world that was all fully in the dna of the making

00:13of this movie at the very beginning of production we don't talk about shots we talk about feeling

00:21and story every scene has a feeling that i need the audience to get

00:30whether it's from what they need to feel themselves or what they need to feel for the character in the

00:36scene whatever way to get there to make that feeling that's where we should be going

00:42when you take on a project like this you're not just looking at wicked a 20 something year legacy

00:50you're looking at a famous fairy tale that's the mental weight then there's the physicality

00:57of doing this for four years we're going to shoot two movies at the same time

01:02how do i track where each character is is that supposed to happen every day you're solving

01:0780 emotional puzzles what the story needs where you're getting intimate with the material and

01:13where are you blowing it up i think you can experiment a little bit more with some swelling

01:18moves i'm limited when i think about myself growing up and wanting to be a filmmaker and

01:26being in awe of et or 2001 space odyssey even thelma and louise this sort of mix of joy

01:35and terror and spectacle that exposed life to me

01:40i look at wicked and i can't believe that i got a chance to be here and do this

01:47just as i was fiercely protective of elphaba he was also fiercely protective of me he just

01:55made lots of space like i felt really trusted to tell a story i think seeing your eyes do that

02:02is telling for us he does such a beautiful job of showcasing the humanness in each of these

02:09characters his heart is woven throughout every single stitch of this movie you get one we're going

02:15to that woman and then we're just going in it has shifted my whole life and it reminded me of the

02:21journey that we have all been through to get here we can't let good be just a word he has to change

02:26things when i think back at the moment that i first saw wicked with my mother to think about the

02:32decades in between all the movies i made in between every single movie a lesson that i needed

02:36to learn this was destiny in my mind this was the movie i was always meant to make and so thank god

02:43it takes thousands of people to make a movie like this because together you all lift think of what we

02:49can do together
