00:50in the last few years the number of Americans on the road has skyrocketed and that means more

01:04traffic more accidents and also rage with violent road rage up nearly 500%

01:20this is where the rubber meets the road

01:30because of the risks to bicyclists on the road the need for special protections

01:44is obvious which is why 35 states have enacted laws requiring vehicles

01:54to give at least three feet of clearance when passing a bicycle

02:00and when cyclists believe these laws aren't followed they can get understandably upset

02:07but sometimes their defensiveness can go a bit too far in Park City

02:19I did the Ridgeline Trail one too that you and Nick did

02:24a dash cam records as a driver passes a cyclist on a suburban road

02:28uh yeah

02:29on route to meeting a friend at a local skate park that's just around the corner

02:33but when he arrives at his destination and continues his phone conversation

02:40yeah yeah yeah and then I went on the one that's like a bunch of ups and downs

02:44he suddenly realizes there's someone by his driver's side window

02:48what's this guy doing

09:06until the driver responds

09:10with what looks like

09:13the driver manages to chase the men away

09:22before appearing to launch

09:24another attack

09:28as he and the man he's with

09:30get back in the car

09:31the altercation starts up again

09:37and when the two motorists

09:44climb back into their car

09:45presumably to leave

09:47the situation suddenly

09:50becomes much more dangerous

09:52in England

10:03as two men slam a car with chairs

10:08outside a pub

10:09the driver uses what appears to be

10:11a large blade

10:13in an attempt

10:14to fend them off

10:17before appearing to launch

10:22another attack

10:23and when the motorists

10:29climb back in their car

10:30this violent confrontation

10:34reaches a new level

10:36as one of the men's

10:47stalks toward the car

10:48it surges forward

10:50he's sent tumbling over the roof

10:54landing hard on the pavement

10:57before rising and staggering back

11:03to the roadside

11:04where witnesses converge

11:06to check on his well-being

11:08the man clearly appears dazed

11:11and according to news articles

11:13he is taken to the hospital

11:15and authorities later locate

11:22both men from the car

11:23who face multiple charges

11:25including wounding with intent

11:27and possessing a blade in public

11:29a potentially costly lesson

11:33and a reminder

11:37that any fight involving a moving vehicle

11:40is never worth the price

11:47backing up in a car

11:57can be a delicate operation

11:59often with unforeseen dangers

12:08only spend 1% of their time

12:50to confront the driver

12:52has led to this

12:53and this chaotic chase

13:01becomes even more concerning

13:02when it spills out

13:05onto the streets

13:06he's in reverse on Ford Road

13:09going eastbound on Ford

13:12with the road relatively clear

13:15police attempt

13:17to box the vehicle in

13:19but the car's weaving

13:21and thickening traffic ahead

13:23we're still with it

13:25we're still going to reverse

13:26make that nearly impossible

13:29the SUV barrels

13:34through a red light

13:35and manages to maneuver away

13:41from a construction zone

13:42as it continues to thwart

13:47the four cruisers in pursuit

13:49finally

13:53shut it down

13:55now

13:55the suspect appears

13:58to make a wise decision

13:59and after nearly two and a half minutes

14:02of fleeing in reverse

14:03comes to a stop

14:05according to the case report

14:08the driver faces multiple charges

14:11including fleeing

14:12or eluding police

14:13and possessing or receiving

14:15a stolen vehicle

14:16hands up right now

14:18put it in court

14:18but chases like these

14:20don't always end as safely

14:22in Piqua, Ohio

14:30an officer spotted a vehicle

14:32driving backwards down the street

14:34and when the officer gave chase

14:36the car continued its reverse run

14:39toward a residential area

14:40and now

14:44the driver attempts a sharp turn

14:47onto a side street

14:48narrowly missing a parked trailer

14:51but the driver's luck

14:54soon runs out

14:56in Piqua, Ohio

15:08a sedan flees in reverse

15:11from an officer

15:12turning into a residential neighborhood

15:14just missing a trailer

15:17parked on the street

15:18but the near miss

15:22doesn't slow the vehicle down

15:24and on the next curve

15:27according to the case report

15:40the reversing vehicle

15:41reached speeds of 54 miles per hour

15:44until veering toward a residence tree

15:47and spinning to a stop

17:01carjackings are on the rise

17:11with many large U.S. cities

17:13seeing a shocking 25% increase in a five-year period

17:17according to a study by the Council on Criminal Justice

17:21which should serve as a warning

17:23to any who might be tempted to leave their vehicle running

17:28or otherwise accessible

17:29such as the worker currently loading up this delivery truck

17:35unaware that someone else

17:37has just taken the wheel

17:40fortunately the worker makes a wise choice

17:55and abandons the truck

17:59avoiding what could have been

18:01a harrowing ride

18:05outside an apartment building

18:07in Kansas City, Missouri

18:08a security camera

18:10captures a woman

18:11walking with her dog

18:12through the parking lot

18:13while her car idles in a spot

18:15as she makes her way

18:17to some nearby dumpsters

18:18a security camera

18:23on the other end of the lot

18:24captures a white sedan

18:25pulling in

18:26with multiple men inside

18:28as the woman pitches some trash

18:30the sedan stops near her car

18:33and a man gets out

18:39immediately making a beeline

18:42for her driver's side door

18:45in Missouri

19:05as a woman who's left her car idling

19:09in a parking lot

19:10walks with her dog

19:11to some nearby dumpsters

19:12the driver of a white sedan

19:15carrying multiple people

19:16enters the lot

19:17pulls up near the woman's vehicle

19:21and heads for the driver's seat

19:27the woman tries to block her car

19:48then drops the dog's leash

19:51as she leaps onto the hood

19:53and is taken through the parking lot

19:57and as the white sedan

20:00drives toward one exit

20:01the woman's car

20:04with her still on the hood

20:05heads for the other

20:12and out onto the main street

20:14where the white sedan

20:16passes right in front of it

20:19the woman is carried down the road

20:22and then moments later

20:29right back up it

20:31at what appears to be

20:33a high rate of speed

20:34until eventually separating herself

20:37from the vehicle

20:38according to news reports

20:41police say the woman

20:42sustains non-life-threatening injuries

20:45as a production

20:48it is unknown

20:48if the suspects are caught

20:50so remember

20:52while it may not be a great idea

20:55to leave one's vehicle

20:56running unattended

20:57trying to prevent someone

21:02from taking it

21:03by risking your own life
