00:00So full of life, Tiffany had a goal.
00:03She wanted to support this baby.
00:05When a young pregnant woman vanishes without a trace...
00:08He heard Tiffany screaming.
00:11Your mind goes to the worst possible scenarios in your head.
00:15Investigators uncover a toxic family filled with conflict.
00:19I honestly thought that somebody in that family did something to her.
00:25Betrayals.
00:26It wasn't always rainbows and sunshine.
00:30She went through hell and back.
00:32Unspeakable evil.
00:34She was fighting for her life and the life of her baby.
00:38She didn't deserve what happened to her.
00:41And a killer relationship.
00:43None of it made sense.
00:44It didn't make sense because he's a liar and he's a killer.
00:56It's the fall of 2014 and 20-year-old Tiffany Adams is getting her life back on track.
01:07She's eight months pregnant and eagerly awaiting the birth of her first child with her boyfriend, Donnie Barron.
01:13But Tiffany's bright future takes a dark turn when she abruptly disappears.
01:19In Sullivan, Indiana, police have to untangle a complicated web of relationships to solve the mystery.
01:26But who is telling the truth?
01:28And who is carrying a deadly secret?
01:30On Friday, November 7th, I was working by myself that day as a police officer with the city of Sullivan.
01:44Dispatch asked me to respond to the house of Bruce Adams in reference to a missing persons report regarding his daughter, Tiffany.
01:53Local plant worker, Bruce Adams, says his pregnant daughter, Tiffany, disappeared two days ago and no one has heard from her since.
02:04I didn't know where she was at.
02:06I could tell something was happening.
02:08Bruce tells the officer that on Wednesday, November 5th, Tiffany and her boyfriend, Donnie, had a few days off work and wanted to come for a visit.
02:16But they lived 30 miles away and didn't have a car.
02:19Bruce went down to pick up Tiffany and Donnie and brought them back to his house.
02:25Then I had to go get something at the store and I came back and Donnie was still sitting on the couch.
02:31Tiffany was gone.
02:32Donnie had told him that Tiffany had walked over to her mom's.
02:37Tiffany's parents had been divorced for several years, but her mom, Christina, and stepfather, Brian Orr, lived just 75 yards away.
02:46You walk out Bruce's house and just across the yard, there's where Christina and Brian lives.
02:52And Tiffany had went over there to see her mom and she had not returned.
02:57According to Donnie, Tiffany left the house between 11 and 11.15 a.m. and had been gone for about two hours.
03:05But as the minutes ticked by, Bruce got a chilling call.
03:09Bruce answered the phone, it was Tiffany's voice, and he thought he heard her yelling, and the phone then went dead.
03:19Within a matter of seconds, the phone rang again.
03:22This time, he heard Tiffany screaming.
03:26Dad, Dad, Dad.
03:28I felt something was going on.
03:30I was just going crazy, you know, trying to find out where and what happened.
03:35She sounds distressed, and he hears Brian Orr's voice in the background.
03:40That sends red flags everywhere.
03:44Brian Orr, Tiffany's stepfather, was known around the community as somebody that you just stayed away from.
03:51There was volatility between Bruce and Brian Orr.
03:56Tiffany, at times, was caught in the middle of it.
03:59Distressed by Tiffany's panicked screams and convinced he heard Brian's voice in the background,
04:07Bruce and Donnie rushed the short distance to the Orr's house.
04:11Brian and Christina were out in the driveway when Bruce went over and confronted Brian.
04:18Bruce says, I don't want no trouble, I just want Tiffany.
04:22Brian looks at him with a puzzled look and says, get the hell off my property.
04:30Bruce tries to ask Christina if she knows where their daughter is,
04:34but she doesn't believe Bruce's story that Tiffany's gone.
04:37So he returns home and repeatedly calls Tiffany's cell phone.
04:42He gets no answer.
04:43After 48 hours pass, Bruce's hope that Tiffany will come back fades.
05:02That's when he calls the police.
05:04I honestly thought that somebody in that family did something to her.
05:12It's not particularly common that a person at eight and a half months pregnant would just up and take off.
05:20Her social media stopped.
05:22She didn't pick up her Friday paycheck.
05:24This girl lived from paycheck to paycheck.
05:26She wasn't gone because she wanted to be.
05:28Now we have to start digging into the background of Tiffany Adams.
05:40Tiffany Adams is born on June 7th, 1994 in Sullivan, Indiana, the second child of Christina and Bruce Adams.
05:48Oh, she was hilarious, man.
05:50She was so full of life.
05:51I mean, it was just nonstop smiling, dancing, singing, just being goofy.
05:59Tiffany was my childhood best friend.
06:02We just ran the streets like hooligans.
06:06She was just an adventurous person.
06:09But family life is anything but easy for Tiffany and her brother Roy.
06:15Tiffany and Roy had a rough childhood.
06:17The family dynamic was chaos.
06:21Christina and Bruce had had an on-again, off-again relationship.
06:27There was a lot of argument going on in that family.
06:32And in 2009, Tiffany's parents split up for good when Christina leaves Bruce and moves in with their neighbor, Brian Orr.
06:41I think at first, when Tiffany's mom met Brian, she was happy for her mom, that she had met somebody that she loved and she seemed happy.
06:54Along with a new stepdad, 14-year-old Tiffany gains older step-siblings, Mary and Jonas Orr, and Jonas' wife, Amber.
07:03Jonas had a little boy, and Tiffany really liked going over and visiting.
07:08Tiffany had a really good relationship with Amber, Jonas' wife.
07:12They went shopping together.
07:14They talked on a daily, especially when it came to her nephew.
07:18The blended family seems to get along at first, but the situation soon turned sour.
07:25Brian was so controlling, and Tiffany did not like seeing her mom being treated that way.
07:33Tiffany just wanted a relationship with her mom, and Brian was not having it.
07:38He wanted Chris all to himself.
07:40Tiffany would beg Chris to leave Brian multiple times.
07:44It didn't matter what she said.
07:46Her mother just did not want to leave the relationship.
07:51Tiffany's parents aren't the only ones at war.
07:54Her stepbrother, Jonas, is also drawn into the fray.
07:57Me, I strung, always wanting to fight everybody and be a big bully.
08:03At one time, Jonas was threatening Tiffany and Bruce, and it was just all over the way Tiffany felt like Brian was treating her mother.
08:14Despite the family drama, there's one bright spot in Tiffany's life, her relationship with her doting boyfriend, Donnie.
08:22Donnie, he's a good guy, I think.
08:25Pretty laid-back kind of guy.
08:27He got his back together.
08:29In the spring of 2014, when Tiffany's only 19 years old, she discovers she's pregnant.
08:35Tiffany and Donnie take the news in stride and see this as the start of an exciting new chapter.
08:42Her and Donnie got away from Sullivan, and I felt like Tiffany had a goal.
08:47She got a job, and she wanted to support this baby.
08:50All she ever talked about is how that baby was going to have the best life.
09:02But now Tiffany has been missing for two days, and investigators are looking at those closest to her for answers.
09:09The last thing Bruce remembered her wearing was a red sweatshirt, black pants, and UGG boots.
09:17After speaking with Bruce, the clock starts there.
09:21I did go over to Brian and Christina's house.
09:25They said no.
09:27I hadn't seen her.
09:28Both their stories matched.
09:29They both stated that they were doing maintenance on a building in town.
09:33And when they got back, that's when they were approached by Bruce and asked the whereabouts of Tiffany.
09:38I asked about the phone call from Tiffany.
09:42I can quote Brian saying, Bruce is a goddamn liar.
09:47He's making it all up.
09:49The lack of concern that we got from Christina and Brian was alarming in a way.
09:57Their demeanor during it all, it was very nonchalant.
10:01Then, Officer Fisher spots something that could provide a clue to where Tiffany went.
10:08As we're talking, we noticed that there's a trail camera on the porch of Brian Orr's house.
10:14The way it's facing, it should see anybody walking up to the house.
10:19Based on the trail camera's position, the SD card would contain footage of Tiffany if she had come over, like her boyfriend Donnie suggested.
10:28So, we asked Brian if we could take the SD card and review it.
10:35When Brian opened that camera box up, the SD card was gone.
10:40Somebody took the time, the very day that Tiffany Adams came up missing, to break into that camera and remove the SD card.
10:49Brian says, Tiffany did it.
10:52That didn't make sense.
10:53We had cadaver dogs, we had tracking dogs, the clock's ticking.
11:03That was her, you know, true love.
11:05They were going to be together forever.
11:07I think Tiffany refused to speak about it because it would cause more chaos.
11:13Nothing is adding up.
11:14Eight months pregnant Tiffany Adams has been missing for two days, and investigators in Sullivan, Indiana, are on the hunt for the mother-to-be.
11:30Her father, Bruce, thinks she's met with foul play.
11:33Tiffany's mom and stepfather, Christina and Brian Orr, are telling people she's simply run off.
11:39And a trail camera that could have revealed where she went is mysteriously empty.
11:45But is it a coincidence or a cover-up?
11:52The first person we honestly wanted to talk to was her boyfriend at the time.
11:58Donnie Barron is the one that said to Bruce that she went over to Brian and Christina's.
12:02But there was no evidence that she went to Brian and Christina, so did Donnie hurt her?
12:08Investigators need to talk with Donnie, but he's nowhere to be found.
12:13Bruce was the one who made the report.
12:16However, her boyfriend that she lived with didn't, and he's the last one to have seen her.
12:22We had made phone calls to his phone, and they went to voicemail.
12:26That only increased the suspicions that Donnie was somehow involved in her disappearance.
12:32Police go by Donnie's last known residence where he lived with Tiffany, but he's not there.
12:38With Donnie unable or unwilling to take their calls, investigators turn to Tiffany's social media to gain insight into their relationship.
12:48What kept surfacing is love and affection.
12:53Looking back at her history on social media, she was very excited to carry this child.
13:00But we learned through our investigation that Donnie was not with Tiffany at the time she became pregnant.
13:08So that added a whole other dimension to this case.
13:13If Donnie isn't the father, who is?
13:16As investigators keep scrolling, they discover a disturbing post.
13:20On October 1st, just five weeks before Tiffany disappeared, she wrote,
13:27My baby's father is seriously worthless.
13:30Tiffany had said that she didn't believe that he wanted anything to do with the baby.
13:35We start, you know, going into relationships, boyfriends,
13:40and we learn the father of the child she is carrying is Artem McHenry.
13:51In 2011, three years before she starts dating Donnie, Tiffany falls in love.
13:58When Tiffany met Artem, she was through the roof.
14:01He was very, very attractive.
14:03He just filled her completely.
14:05She had it set that that was her, you know, true love, that they were going to be together forever.
14:12They actually moved in together a couple days after meeting.
14:16But despite their intense feelings, the romance has its problems.
14:22It was a very rollercoaster kind of relationship.
14:26Sometimes I could see Artem being a little controlling,
14:29but I think that was more Tiffany being jealous because, you know,
14:34anybody look sideways at him, she'd start barking.
14:38Artem and Tiffany's relationship ends as abruptly as it started.
14:42In March of 2014, eight months before Tiffany's disappearance, the two break up.
14:49Tiff called me crying and said he laughed, he laughed, he laughed.
14:53She was completely heartbroken.
14:56I think Tiffany took it extremely hard, but Tiffany was never one to be by herself.
15:02So regardless of the heartbreak, she was going to find someone else.
15:07And that's when she met Donnie.
15:09It's only weeks after meeting Donnie that Tiffany discovers she's pregnant.
15:16She was so shocked.
15:17She's like, what am I going to do?
15:19And then she got excited because she loved kids.
15:22Artem didn't believe it was his at first.
15:25She was so mad at Artem.
15:27Donnie Barron, he loved Tiffany, and he was willing to raise that baby,
15:32take that baby as his own.
15:34She had told me, I'm going to love this baby more than that I ever had loved.
15:48Two days after Tiffany Adams went missing, investigators were juggling multiple suspects.
15:54Her stepfather, Brian, her boyfriend, Donnie,
15:57and now her ex and the father of her unborn child, Artem.
16:01Did Artem want harm to come to Tiffany?
16:04Did Artem want harm to come to the unborn baby?
16:07Maybe there was some kind of jealousy there,
16:11because here you have Donnie, who is stepping up.
16:15That kind of puts Artem in a bad light.
16:18So we got to find Artem McHenry, get his side of what he knows.
16:22While they look into Tiffany's current and former boyfriends,
16:27three days after she was last seen,
16:29investigators are able to analyze location data from Tiffany's cell phone provider.
16:34What comes back to us is a longitude and a latitude
16:39of where that phone last communicated with the tower.
16:43It was on County Road 300.
16:45That was five miles from Sullivan, Indiana.
16:48As you're driving east on County Road 300 north,
16:51you have part of the lake on each side of the road.
16:54Why would it ping here?
16:55There's no houses right here.
16:59We were dragging the bottom of the lake.
17:01We had cadaver dogs.
17:04We had tracking dogs.
17:06We spent several nights in winter temperatures out here with these dogs,
17:12but it was nothing that led us anywhere in the investigation.
17:16The clock's ticking.
17:17One week after she disappears, there's still no sign of Tiffany,
17:22but her boyfriend, Donnie, does resurface,
17:26and the investigators have plenty of questions.
17:30Donnie stayed at a house very close by to Bruce's.
17:33That's where we eventually made contact with him.
17:37Why did it take so long for us to breach you?
17:40You didn't reach out to us.
17:42We didn't really understand his need to disappear.
17:45Obviously, that makes someone suspicious.
17:48He said he was stressed out after her disappearance.
17:51I don't think he knew how to handle that.
17:55Donnie seemed very concerned.
17:57He truly thought something bad had happened to her
18:01while she was at Brian's place.
18:05While they still can't reconcile Donnie's actions,
18:09Bruce backs up one major part of his story.
18:12He told us that Donnie was with Bruce
18:15whenever Bruce got that phone call from the landline
18:18that had Tiffany distressed on the other end of the line.
18:20Investigators still have to consider
18:22that Bruce might be lying about Donnie
18:24being with him during that phone call.
18:27But unless they can prove otherwise, Donnie has an alibi.
18:30So detectives move on to Tiffany's ex
18:33and the father of her baby, Artem McHenry.
18:36Artem McHenry lived in Linton, Indiana,
18:39at the time of her disappearance.
18:40That's approximately 30, 40 miles away
18:43from where Tiffany's dad's house was in Sullivan.
18:46Law enforcement proceeds to where he lives.
18:49For questioning.
18:51Have you heard from her?
18:52Have you seen her?
18:53Can you give us anything?
18:55Artem didn't know what had happened to Tiffany.
18:57He suspected Donnie had maybe been involved in it.
19:00Then they asked Artem where he was on November 5th
19:04when Tiffany disappeared.
19:05During that time that she was reported missing,
19:09Artem said he was working for the family business
19:11doing construction work.
19:12So we had to closely examine Artem and his whereabouts
19:15at the time of her disappearance
19:17and confirm Artem's alibi.
19:20It's now been more than a week since Tiffany vanished
19:23and investigators continue their search.
19:25But it's well known that the longer someone is missing,
19:28the less chance there is of finding them alive,
19:31or at all.
19:33I couldn't sleep for days.
19:35And I'd just search the tracks, I'd search the woods.
19:40We would do search parties where we'd have like 20, 30 of us
19:43walking.
19:44We were all concerned, especially with how pregnant she was.
19:47Days turning into weeks without finding her,
19:51you lose a lot of hope.
19:52By Christmas, Tiffany has been missing for seven weeks,
19:57and her due date is fast approaching.
19:59Then, at the end of December,
20:02nearly eight weeks after Tiffany first disappeared,
20:06the Sullivan police get a call.
20:08December 30, 2014, the chief's phone rings.
20:13He answers it.
20:15And the alarm on his face, he looks at us,
20:20he hangs up the phone and says,
20:21we gotta go, I think we found her.
20:25And it's not good.
20:29For almost two months,
20:32the police in Sullivan, Indiana,
20:33have been searching for 20-year-old Tiffany Adams,
20:36a mother-to-be who's just days away from her due date.
20:39On December 30, 2014,
20:42investigators make a gruesome discovery
20:45five miles north of town,
20:47and the search for answers takes a tragic turn.
20:50We get a phone call from a local farmer
20:56that he had been combining his corn field.
21:01It was a cloudy, gloomy day,
21:04and the field was muddy.
21:06And all of a sudden,
21:07he sees this bright color laying on the ground.
21:11He got down off his tractor.
21:13He realizes this is a person.
21:16He could tell by the clothing,
21:20by the hair,
21:22that it was a young female.
21:25I noticed that the corn stalks
21:28all around her were trampled down.
21:31That led me to believe
21:33that there was some sort of struggle.
21:35There was a red sweatshirt
21:40twisted around her neck,
21:42and her clothing matched
21:45what was described when Tiffany was missing.
21:48An autopsy confirms
21:50the body in the corn field is Tiffany Adams.
21:55The coroner concluded
21:56that she died by strangulation.
21:59I had been a policeman for a long time.
22:01And that was the hardest autopsy
22:05I'd ever been part of.
22:08The reality of that baby dying
22:15is not the way
22:18life is supposed to be.
22:22In the autopsy,
22:27closer examination was made
22:28of the sweatshirt
22:30that was tied around her neck.
22:32In that sweatshirt
22:33was her hair
22:36that had been pulled out
22:38of her scalp.
22:40And more importantly,
22:41husks off the corn stalks.
22:43That pretty much solidified
22:45that the attack
22:47took place there.
22:49The murder happened
22:50in that corn field.
22:52After we had a positive identification
22:54on Tiffany,
22:55we did then inform the family.
22:58I cared for her so much.
23:01I still think one day she woke up.
23:06She don't woke me up.
23:09It just never even happened.
23:15More than ever,
23:16detectives are determined
23:17to get justice for Tiffany Adams
23:19and her unborn son.
23:21The answer might lie
23:22in her phone records.
23:24Detectives have already established
23:26where Tiffany's phone last pinged
23:28on the day she went missing.
23:30Now that it's a homicide,
23:32they subpoena her full phone records
23:34to find out who she was communicating with
23:36on that fateful day.
23:38When you look at her phone records,
23:41prior to the panic phone calls
23:44made to Bruce House,
23:45there are text messages.
23:48Now, we were not able
23:50to see the message body,
23:52but we did have the phone numbers,
23:55and that information is key.
23:57A total of 14 messages
23:59were exchanged between Tiffany's phone
24:01and a single number
24:02on the day she disappeared.
24:04Well, when you look
24:05at those phone records,
24:06you come up with a number
24:08that was registered
24:10to Jonas Orr
24:13and his wife, Amber.
24:15That's Tiffany's stepbrother.
24:17Jonas and Amber
24:19used the same phone.
24:21They only had one phone
24:22between them.
24:23When Tiffany begged her mom
24:25to leave Brian,
24:26Amber and Jonas sided
24:27with his father, Brian Orr.
24:29But would either of them go so far
24:31as to hurt Tiffany?
24:33Jonas was also known
24:35to have that temper.
24:37I myself had dealt with Jonas
24:38and his wife, Amber, quite a bit.
24:42We'd known Jonas
24:42to be very protective of Brian.
24:46Investigators don't know
24:47what the messages say
24:48or who sent them,
24:49so they bring Jonas
24:51Orr Tiffany's stepbrother
24:52in for questioning.
24:54We asked Jonas
24:55if he had communicated
24:56with Tiffany,
24:57categorically denied it.
24:59Said he hadn't talked to Tiffany,
25:00hadn't seen Tiffany
25:01since September.
25:02And his statement was,
25:04if anybody was talking
25:06to Tiffany on the phone,
25:08it must have been Amber.
25:10So then we want to talk
25:12to Jonas' wife, Amber.
25:14Amber claimed she had no contact
25:16with Tiffany as well.
25:18We showed her the phone records,
25:20laid them out,
25:21times, date,
25:23and said,
25:24your husband said,
25:27this is you.
25:27she blew up.
25:32She says there's no way
25:34that she communicated
25:35with Tiffany Adams
25:36on or about November the 5th.
25:39Investigators ask Amber
25:40to hand over the phone,
25:42but she claims
25:43that it was a prepaid sale
25:44and they no longer have it.
25:46So who texted Tiffany
25:48on the day she disappeared?
25:50Why in the world
25:51would they be lying to us?
25:53Just two days
25:58after the body
25:59of Tiffany Adams
25:59is found in a cornfield,
26:01statements made
26:02by her stepbrother Jonas
26:03and his wife Amber
26:05aren't lining up.
26:06Police records show
26:07that one of them
26:08was communicating
26:09with Tiffany
26:10on the day she disappeared.
26:12But Jonas and Amber
26:13both deny it.
26:15Investigators need
26:16to dig further,
26:17so they review
26:18what Bruce Adams said
26:19when he filed
26:20the missing person report.
26:23Bruce stated
26:24that the day
26:25she went missing.
26:26Jonas Orr
26:27was driving around
26:28close to Brian's house
26:29on his golf cart.
26:30It was about 3 in the afternoon.
26:32Jonas and Amber
26:34had told us
26:35that they never left
26:37the house
26:37on November the 5th.
26:40So I asked Bruce,
26:42what were they doing?
26:43Did they go in the house?
26:44He said no.
26:46Jonas was fiddling
26:47with something
26:48on the front porch.
26:49Was Jonas tampering
26:51with the trail camera
26:51on Brian Orr's front porch?
26:53And if so,
26:54did he take the SD card?
26:56Regardless,
26:57even if Jonas
26:58did meet up
26:59with Tiffany that morning,
27:00how would they get
27:01to the cornfield
27:02five miles away?
27:03Jonas didn't own a car.
27:05Nothing is adding up.
27:07We have our people
27:09of interest,
27:09but we're not getting
27:11any credible information
27:12from them.
27:13While detectives
27:14try to separate fact
27:15from fiction,
27:17Tiffany's friends
27:17and family
27:18gather to honor
27:19the vibrant young woman
27:20who couldn't wait
27:21to be a mother.
27:22I went to Tiffany's
27:23celebration of life.
27:27It was beautiful.
27:30She was there with us.
27:31We could all feel it.
27:34We went out
27:34and we had them
27:35Japanese kites.
27:38We dicked them off
27:41and said prayers.
27:45Our mom showed up, too.
27:47She didn't stay very long
27:48because we all just,
27:50mm-mm.
27:51You have no business
27:52being here.
27:57Meanwhile,
27:58detectives are convinced
27:59Tiffany's cell phone
28:01and the contents
28:01of her text messages
28:03are the key
28:04to finding her killer.
28:05So, once again,
28:07they return to the data
28:08hoping to eliminate suspects.
28:11Tiffany's cell phone
28:12made that panic call
28:14from the exact spot
28:16that her dead body
28:17was found.
28:19So, we know
28:19where Tiffany was at
28:21at the time
28:21of the trouble calls
28:22and we know
28:23where Bruce was at.
28:24She had called
28:25the house phone.
28:27They were in two
28:28very different places.
28:30That's all established
28:31by phone records.
28:33There were accusations
28:34that Donnie Varon
28:35had done something
28:36to her.
28:37That those assumptions
28:38can quickly be extinguished
28:40because he was standing
28:41beside Bruce
28:42when those phone calls
28:43were made.
28:44So, that was critical.
28:46What about Brian Orr?
28:48Because Bruce and Donnie
28:49confronted Brian
28:50and Christina
28:51minutes after
28:52the harrowing phone call,
28:53they, too,
28:54could not have been
28:55five miles away
28:56committing the murder.
28:57Those people
28:58hated each other.
28:59They wouldn't have
29:01ever lied for each other.
29:02So, she had to be
29:04with someone else.
29:05Then, there's Tiffany's ex
29:07and father of her
29:08unborn baby,
29:09Artem McHenry.
29:11We were able to
29:12track back
29:13through cell phone
29:14technology
29:15and confirm
29:16Artem's alibi.
29:17He was 50 miles away
29:19working on a job site.
29:21That leaves Jonas
29:22and Amber Orr
29:24as the only viable suspects.
29:26But the critical question
29:27still remains.
29:28How could they have
29:29made it to the cornfield
29:31without a car?
29:32As the investigation
29:33continued,
29:34Amber said Jonas
29:35sometimes borrowed
29:36a vehicle
29:38from a friend of his.
29:39The friend is named
29:41Jim Fish.
29:42And when investigators
29:43track him down,
29:45Jim confirms
29:46that on the day
29:46Tiffany disappeared,
29:48Jonas borrowed
29:49his Chevy Blazer.
29:50All of a sudden,
29:51Jonas,
29:52on that day,
29:53was in Jim Fish's vehicle.
29:55That is direct
29:56contradiction
29:57to what Jonas told us.
29:58He didn't leave
30:00the house.
30:01According to Jim Fish,
30:02Jonas borrowed
30:03the Blazer
30:04on a regular basis,
30:05often driving
30:06Jim's fiancee
30:07to her job
30:08and then returning
30:09the car later
30:10to the sawmill
30:10where Jim worked.
30:12On November 5th,
30:13Jonas took Katrina
30:14to work
30:15in Linton, Indiana.
30:16Around 1130,
30:18Jonas was
30:19to leave his house
30:20to make it
30:21to the sawmill
30:22to return the Blazer.
30:24But on this particular day,
30:26Jonas said
30:26that the Blazer
30:27broke down
30:28and Jonas
30:29never made it
30:30to the sawmill.
30:32Jim said he hadn't
30:33had any mechanical
30:33problems at all.
30:35He was actually
30:36baffled
30:37by Jonas
30:38claiming
30:38that the Blazer
30:39had broken down.
30:40If Jonas lied
30:41about not leaving
30:42his house,
30:43is he also
30:43not telling the truth
30:44about the Blazer
30:45breaking down?
30:46Detectives can't help
30:47but wonder
30:48what else Jonas Orr
30:49is lying about,
30:50so they bring him in
30:51for a second round
30:52of questioning.
30:54We talked to guys
30:55who remember
30:56a time when you
30:57were in Jim's truck
30:59and you were
31:00broke down.
31:01I mean,
31:01I couldn't tell you
31:02exactly when that
31:03happened,
31:04but yes,
31:04it did break down.
31:05Jonas said
31:07that the Blazer
31:08had broken down
31:08and that some
31:10strangers
31:11had stopped
31:13to help him.
31:15They gave him
31:16a pair of jumper cables.
31:19So I asked him
31:20if they had a cell phone,
31:21so then I texted
31:21Dan Burr
31:22and sold her.
31:23I was broke down
31:24and then I let Jim know
31:26because I didn't
31:27have a phone.
31:29He tells me
31:30that he borrowed
31:31their cell phone
31:31and that's the phone
31:33that he used
31:33to text his wife.
31:35So we've been able
31:36to figure out
31:37which day it was
31:39that you were
31:39broke down
31:40and used
31:41the stranger's phone.
31:43But that day
31:44is November the 5th,
31:452014.
31:46So I kept
31:46telling him so?
31:47Yeah, it is.
31:48I don't get
31:49to tell him so.
31:50In a follow-up interview
31:51with detectives,
31:52Amber says she remembers
31:54Jonas texting her
31:55about the car
31:56breaking down
31:56but that she didn't
31:57recognize the number.
31:59But when investigators
32:00look at Amber's
32:01phone records
32:01and trace the unknown number,
32:03it turns out
32:04the owner of the phone
32:05is no stranger
32:06after all.
32:08It belongs
32:09to Tiffany Adams.
32:09We learned that Tiffany
32:12had just got
32:14a new phone number.
32:15She'd only had it
32:16a matter of days.
32:18It's a crucial discovery
32:19that could only mean
32:20one thing.
32:22The story Jonas
32:23is telling police
32:24is a total lie.
32:26Jonas was using
32:27Tiffany's phone
32:28to text Amber.
32:30He tells me
32:31that he's out broke down
32:32and some stranger
32:33stopped just coincidentally.
32:35they loaned him
32:37his soon-to-be-murdered
32:38stepsister's
32:39cell phone
32:40so he could text
32:41his wife.
32:44Like I said,
32:45I don't know
32:45whose phone it was.
32:46I was never really
32:47used to this phone.
32:49I said,
32:50here's the problem.
32:51And I pushed
32:51the phone records
32:52over to him.
32:53I said,
32:54that's Tiffany Adams' phone.
32:56And Tiffany Adams,
32:57right in the middle
32:58of your text messages,
33:00called Bruce's house.
33:02None of it made sense.
33:03It didn't make sense
33:04because he's a liar
33:05and he's a killer.
33:10Tiffany completely
33:11lost it on him.
33:12All the skeletons
33:13come out.
33:14This was a huge,
33:16huge undertaking.
33:17It was one of the
33:18most unbelievable things
33:19that has ever occurred
33:20in my law enforcement career.
33:26The investigators
33:27looking into the murder
33:28of Tiffany Adams
33:29have discovered
33:30Tiffany's stepbrother,
33:32Jonas Orr,
33:33was in possession
33:34of her cell phone
33:35the day she disappeared.
33:37Jonas claims
33:37he had car trouble
33:38and had to borrow a phone
33:40to let his wife,
33:41Amber, know
33:41he was running late.
33:43It turns out
33:44that was just another lie.
33:46The car didn't break down.
33:47But why would Jonas lie
33:49about anything?
33:51Detectives find their answer
33:52buried in an old police report.
33:57Approximately a year
33:58prior to Tiffany's murder.
34:00Tiffany showed up
34:02at the Sullivan Community Hospital.
34:05Tiffany wanted to be examined
34:07for an assault.
34:09She claimed to the officer
34:11that day
34:12that she had been raped
34:13by Jonas Orr.
34:16But after speaking
34:17with the officer,
34:19Tiffany declined
34:20to press charges
34:21against her stepbrother.
34:22I think Tiffany refused
34:24to speak about it
34:25because it would cause
34:26more chaos
34:27between her mom
34:29and Brian and her
34:31when she just wanted
34:32so badly
34:32to have a relationship
34:33with her mom.
34:34In early September,
34:36two months before
34:37Tiffany disappeared,
34:38things finally came
34:39to a head
34:40between Tiffany
34:41and Jonas.
34:43There was a blow-up
34:44at the Dollar General
34:46and Sullivan.
34:47There was a big
34:48verbal altercation
34:49in which law enforcement
34:50was called.
34:51Jonas was accusing Tiffany
34:52of running her mouth
34:54about his dad.
34:55Tiffany completely
34:56lost it on him.
34:57I mean,
34:57she let all her anger out.
34:59All the skeletons
35:00come out.
35:01Tiffany once again
35:02brought up
35:02the rape allegation
35:03against Jonas Orr.
35:05In response,
35:06he took legal action.
35:08He filed for
35:09a protective order,
35:09a restraining order,
35:10to shut her up
35:12so she would quit
35:13talking about it
35:14out in public.
35:17Jonas insisted
35:18the allegation
35:19was false
35:19and he was never
35:20charged with the crime.
35:22But was it a potential
35:23motive for murder?
35:25The most common theory
35:27was the day
35:28that Tiffany disappeared,
35:31Jonas had been
35:31driving Jim Fish's
35:33blazer.
35:34I think that the same
35:36time that Tiffany
35:37walked out of
35:38Bruce's house,
35:40Jonas was driving
35:41right by his dad's house.
35:44We don't really know
35:46why Tiffany got in
35:47the blazer.
35:49I believe that happened
35:51in that driveway,
35:53right in front
35:54of that deer camera.
35:55That is the only
35:56explanation
35:57that Jonas had
36:00to go get that SD card.
36:02Had we been able
36:03to recover
36:04that SD card,
36:05we'd have had
36:05a picture of her
36:07getting in the blazer
36:07with Jonas.
36:09While the missing SD card
36:11is never located,
36:12Tiffany's phone records
36:13show her traveling
36:14five miles north of
36:16Sullivan
36:16to the cornfield.
36:18We believe Jonas
36:19drives out
36:21to the country
36:22where no one
36:23could see them.
36:24I think that Tiffany
36:25jumped out and took off
36:26running across that
36:27cornfield.
36:28There was a fight
36:29and a struggle.
36:29She was fighting
36:30for her life
36:31and the life
36:32of her baby.
36:34And he strangled her
36:35to death.
36:37But if Jonas
36:38killed Tiffany,
36:39why did Bruce hear
36:41Brian Orr's voice
36:42in the background
36:43of her terrifying
36:44last phone call?
36:46Their voices
36:46are similar.
36:47I could see
36:48why Bruce
36:50thought that
36:51Brian had killed
36:52Tiffany.
36:54On January 20,
36:562015,
36:57nearly three months
36:58after Tiffany Adams
36:59was killed,
37:00police believe
37:01they have enough
37:02to arrest
37:03Jonas Orr.
37:05There's an arrest
37:06for counsel murder.
37:08You serious?
37:09That's serious.
37:10Take home.
37:11I'm not going to
37:12stay calm
37:13when you say
37:14I killed my sister.
37:16That's what we're
37:17going to arrest you
37:18for, okay?
37:20Tell me to
37:20calm down.
37:23The investigators
37:24are sure
37:25they've got their man,
37:26but the case
37:27against Jonas
37:28is largely
37:28circumstantial.
37:30What they need
37:31is hard evidence.
37:33No one's DNA
37:35was found
37:36on her clothing
37:37other than hers.
37:39We impounded
37:41Jim Fish's blazer
37:42to see what evidence
37:44might be left behind.
37:46In the passenger seat,
37:48they found
37:48a red fiber,
37:51and that thread
37:53was a match
37:54to Tiffany Adams'
37:57sweatshirt.
37:59The case is literally
38:01hanging by thread,
38:02but will it be enough
38:04to convince a jury
38:05that it was Jonas
38:06who took the lives
38:07of Tiffany Adams
38:08and her unborn child?
38:10He never admitted
38:11to anything,
38:12but I knew he killed her,
38:15and now we have to prove it.
38:16police in Sullivan, Indiana,
38:24have charged Jonas Orr
38:25with the murder
38:26of his stepsister,
38:27Tiffany Adams,
38:28and her unborn son.
38:29Still,
38:30the case is far
38:31from closed.
38:32A fiber from Tiffany's
38:33sweatshirt
38:34seems to place her
38:35in an SUV
38:36Jonas was seen driving
38:38on the day
38:38she disappeared.
38:39But the investigators
38:41need to prove
38:41that it was Jonas
38:42who was using Tiffany's phone
38:44to text his wife, Amber.
38:46There's just one problem.
38:49We searched the entire
38:50cornfield
38:50for Tiffany's phone.
38:52Could not come up with it.
38:55Based on the GPS coordinates
38:57from Tiffany receiving
38:59the phone calls
38:59from Bruce,
39:00we concluded that
39:01the phone
39:02had to have been
39:03dumped in Sullivan Lake.
39:05When the weather broke
39:08and the ice was
39:09off of the lake,
39:11we had divers
39:12dive that lake.
39:15This was a huge,
39:17huge undertaking.
39:18Nobody believed
39:19that we could find
39:21a cell phone
39:21that had been laying
39:23at the bottom
39:23of a muddy lake.
39:25The divers had been
39:26in the water
39:26for about an hour,
39:28and one of the divers
39:29came up
39:29with a cell phone
39:31in his hand.
39:34It was one of the
39:35most unbelievable things
39:36that has ever occurred
39:37in my law enforcement career.
39:40We were told
39:41there won't be anything
39:42on that phone.
39:43You'll never find
39:44anything on it.
39:45They were wrong.
39:47The information
39:48that was found
39:48on that phone
39:49was invaluable.
39:51Erased text messages
39:53between Jonas and her
39:54and his wife
39:56on the day
39:57that Tiffany Adams
39:58was murdered.
39:58In one exchange,
40:01the outgoing text
40:02from Tiffany's phone
40:03reads,
40:04the blazer broke down.
40:06Amber replies,
40:08who is this?
40:09When asked,
40:10who is this,
40:11from Amber,
40:12Jonas uses his own name.
40:13He's willing to lie
40:16to his wife
40:16to buy time
40:18to cover his tracks.
40:19It only makes sense
40:20if you're trying
40:21to get by with murder.
40:22And based on the evidence,
40:24the investigators believe
40:26Amber was never involved.
40:28Jonas acted alone.
40:29It was very clear
40:30that Jonas
40:31was the one
40:32who killed Tiffany Adams.
40:33Cell phone pings
40:35proved to be
40:36the final nail
40:36in the coffin.
40:38The exact location
40:39where Jonas sent the text
40:40was the cornfield
40:41where Tiffany's body
40:43was found.
40:44That really cinched
40:46this case.
40:47He was caught.
40:49We were able to
40:50pull all the pieces together.
40:53On June 27, 2016,
40:56Jonas Orr goes to trial.
40:58It takes the jury
40:59less than one hour
41:01to find him guilty
41:02of murdering
41:03Tiffany Adams
41:04and her unborn son.
41:06Jonas is sentenced
41:07to 130 years.
41:09He will spend
41:11the rest of his life
41:12in prison
41:15where he belongs.
41:18Justice,
41:19in my opinion,
41:20was served.
41:21Today,
41:22Tiffany's loved ones

42:04and light.
42:05Her smile
42:05could brighten

42:07But that light
42:08was extinguished
42:09by a man
42:10consumed by anger
42:12and rage.
