40:25For those of you who've attended before, feel free to ignore my sob story and go straight to the bar.
40:31But for those of you who don't know it, here's the short version.
40:36My parents were both junior hockey coaches.
40:40And they were hit by a drunk driver when I was 12 years old.
40:43And mercifully for them, they died instantly.
40:48Mercifully for me, the St. Thomas scholarships existed.
40:54I didn't have anybody else to help me.
40:58I had a lot of memories, a love of hockey, and a huge hole in my heart.
41:04St. Thomas filled it with hope.
41:07The hope of a new family.
41:10Things weren't always easy.
41:12You know, they never are for anybody.
41:14But in hockey, I found what I was missing.
41:19First at my high school, then later at college, and now here with the Admirals.
41:24And I never looked back.
41:26Because I never had to.
41:30The family I craved, the family that I needed, that I still need today.
41:34Hockey gave it to me.
41:39And St. Thomas gave me hockey.
41:42So from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for being here tonight.
41:47And for supporting this cause, because it's not just a scholarship.
41:50It's everything that comes with it.
