00:00Look at Pete Davidson's lips.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:08And today we're counting down our picks for the most notable, hilarious, and or unforgettable times somebody lost it on SNL.
00:15The truth is, we misplaced your baby.
00:26Number 50, Trauma Support Group.
00:28Well, my thing makes his thing sound like an episode of Sesame Street.
00:34What's that, Samuel?
00:36Forget it. I've just been through stuff, okay?
00:39Somehow, Bill Burr's group leader is not the most startling part of the sketch.
00:43While the host and his wig are a highlight, the most entertaining moment comes from Bowen Yang's character.
00:48His tough guy ruins the meeting, eats all the donuts, and can't stand the others.
00:53You can't smoke in here, Samuel.
00:55Fine, I'll just take a donut then.
00:57Yang is deep into this aggro role until he puts a cigarette out on Ashley Padilla's leg.
01:03The latter actress reacts accordingly, but it seems to startle her co-star into a laugh.
01:08Both performers end up having to recover after the loud break in the action.
01:11If you're not paying attention, this shocking turn will certainly wake you up.
01:15And I've just been staring at it for hours.
01:17Would you just shut up already?
01:18Number 49. Church on Vacation
01:23Dad, did you have to drag us to church while we're on vacation?
01:27Yeah, can't we skip one Sunday?
01:30Hey, we're Catholics, okay?
01:31On his SNL episode, Shane Gillis brought out his irreverent side.
01:35This sketch makes him a father that takes his family to a Jamaican church.
01:39They might be on vacation, but that doesn't mean they're gonna miss out on a Sunday service.
01:43Gillis tries his hand at some patois before breaking later in the sketch.
01:47Right before he finally loses it, he gives his best attempt at an accent again before chuckling to himself.
01:53If you're hearing me or not, you say amen.
01:56Yeah, amen.
01:58Honey, you don't even know what he's talking about.
02:01Hush now, child, me trying to hear the good word.
02:05The surrounding chaos and stellar performances only make it more obvious that something might happen.
02:10With Heidi Gardner giving a solid reaction, the host locks in after having a moment of laughter.
02:16Thought I was right.
02:16Jesus was upon the cross, died for our sins and treaties.
02:20They think one rays up into heaven.
02:23Ricky!
02:26What are you saying?
02:30Number 48. One-Uppers
02:31Hey, guys, I'm sorry I'm late.
02:35Oh my gosh, Angie!
02:37I haven't seen you in so long!
02:38At a dinner between friends, Jack Black's guest arrives to do some not-so-humble brags.
02:44These are all accompanied by a signature look and bird screech.
02:47The reactions are lovably dumb, but they only ratchet up in intensity as Bowen joins the scene.
02:53Hey, by the way, Eddie, where did you get your sweater?
02:55Oh, I thrifted it.
02:57Throughout the action, the performers crack up as their co-stars try to find the camera.
03:02Black shows off his dedication as the sketch takes a few more absurd turns.
03:06The sound effects and angles are a little off, making the sketch that much funnier.
03:11You can tell the cast members are barely hanging in there.
03:14With so many different camera shots, they can't hide their faces either.
03:17I know I am.
03:19Me too, but I don't go to the beach.
03:21I only go to black-owned pools.
03:25Number 47.
03:26Lisa from Temecula Sports Bar
03:28After a successful first sketch, the show decided to try it again a few more times.
03:41This version is once again funny and full of breaking like the original.
03:45With host Josh Brolin, the sketch seems to be going well, until Bowen Yang can't take it anymore.
03:50Sir, I will have you know, he is Negro Divergent.
03:55No, I'm not.
03:59Get out.
04:01There are already some small cracks before the entire comedy dam bursts.
04:05Ego Wodum's lines and enunciation start a domino effect with Yang.
04:09It's already such a goofy sketch, but the giggling only makes it all the more memorable.
04:13You can always count on someone laughing when Lisa from Temecula shows up.
04:17Lisa, when you cut it out, Mark was just talking, girl.
04:20I heard every word.
04:22Mr. Tarzan over here, trying to lure me to his house, talking about he got a big snake.
04:27Number 46.
04:28George H.W. Bush in George W. Bush Go Hunting
04:31Over here.
04:33It went this way.
04:34Huh?
04:34Didn't you get him?
04:37Sharing some quality time together, this father and son duo spend a day in the forest.
04:42This sketch is also an excuse for two SNL titans to work together.
04:45While Dana Carvey and Will Ferrell might be heavyweights,
04:48they have to deal with an apparent slip-up.
04:50The older Bush makes a motion like he's going to slap the younger one.
04:53Were you trying to hit me?
04:54Well, no, there was a fly right near your head.
04:57Went like that.
04:59When no sound effect comes, both comedians have a moment of shock before continuing the sketch.
05:04Carvey and Ferrell pick up the pieces and do some improvisation.
05:07Using their professional skills, the duo knows how to roll with the punches despite this hiccup.
05:12Well, you put the antlers down.
05:18Number 45.
05:20New Wife
05:20What are we celebrating tonight, bud?
05:22Yeah, Vince, what's the raison de la fete?
05:25You haven't heard?
05:26I got married this past weekend.
05:28While he's better known for his Curb Your Enthusiasm persona,
05:32SNL lets Larry David try out different roles.
05:34This one is especially funny for how far he gets from his neurotic stereotype.
05:38As a strange man with a new wife, his character tries to impress the other partygoers.
05:43He holds it all together before he crumbles in the final minutes.
05:46Get out!
05:49Is everything okay?
05:52You got something mad.
05:56David has some ridiculous dialogue to say, making it even harder to get the words out.
06:01His giggly nature makes this wild part especially difficult near the end.
06:04You might not even find the lead-up amusing, but the Seinfeld creator certainly gives it one last comedic stamp.
06:10We do have a meeting at 6 a.m.
06:14Yeah, we got that 6 a.m. meeting, man.
06:18Number 44.
06:19Doctor
06:20Hello, family.
06:24Well, this is never easy to say.
06:26We did everything we could, but he did not make it.
06:29This might be the most amazing train wreck of season 49.
06:33When Ryan Gosling shows up, you know that somebody will break.
06:37The setup here starts with a family death and morphs into a medical melodrama.
06:42Gosling enters as Bowen Yang's helper, with the two playing characters that also love cookies.
06:52The host breaks more than once as he makes a hilarious mistake with a camera.
06:58Between the food gags and ensemble acting, this feels like a gloriously weird scene.
07:04It hits yet another peak when Molly Carney accidentally clips her co-star with a wheelchair.
07:08By that point, many performers lose their composure in this funny sketch.
07:12Number 43.
07:21Diner Lobster
07:22Did you two want it yet?
07:24No.
07:25Did you two carve gang signs into the baby changing station?
07:29Yeah.
07:29All right, what do you want to eat?
07:31When John Mulaney hosted SNL, he starred in this wonderful idea about a questionable dish.
07:37Pete Davidson's character orders the Diner Lobster and draws some strong reactions.
07:41After the customer doubles down, the restaurant decides to start a tribute to Les Misérables.
07:46All right, everyone, the time has come.
07:49We've got an order here for one lobster.
07:55It's an incredible number that's so unexpected, over-the-top, and funny.
08:00Davidson cannot help but laugh at the sight of everything.
08:03To be fair, we are all him watching this unfold.
08:06The actor cannot hold back his reaction as pure joy washes over his face.
08:10With that kind of infectious happiness, the sketch only builds from there.
08:15I thought that there was an unspoken rule.
08:18That lobster in a diner's never cool.
08:22Number 42.
08:23Apple Picking Ad
08:24Ah, hello.
08:26I'm Deborah Chickle.
08:28If you've ever been apple picking, you'll likely appreciate this sketch.
08:32Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant play sisters that run an orchard that might not be so great after all.
08:37While various people talk about their experience, the seams start to burst thanks to the lead actresses.
08:43Bryant and McKinnon have such a solid chemistry that gives way to some laughter.
08:47Still not feeling picky?
08:48Listen to this satisfied customer.
08:51Even if the sketch isn't firing on all cylinders, the mistakes make it all the better.
08:56It's super entertaining to watch the pair work through the giggles.
08:59In between some comical testimonials, the comedians bring their charming energy to the scene.
09:08You also have a petting suit.
09:13Number 41.
09:14Uncle Ben
09:15Thank you all for being in.
09:21In this sketch, SNL takes a look at changes in corporate marketing.
09:26Dave Chappelle introduces a scene where executives fire mascots like Aunt Jemima.
09:30I'm sorry, but it's just not working out.
09:32We have to let you go.
09:34But I'm Aunt Jemima.
09:36The comedian plays the spokesman for Allstate, but he immediately laughs before his line.
09:42He also has to contend with his modulated voice.
09:44If we can't work, how come the Allstate guy gets to work?
09:48Oh.
09:48Oh.
09:48Oh.
09:49Oh.
09:49Oh.
09:49Oh.
09:50Oh.
09:50Oh.
09:50Oh.
09:50Oh.
09:51Chappelle giggles through his script, making for several highlights in the star-studded sketch.
09:58His Dennis Haysbert impression isn't the only thing that causes laughter.
10:01When Pete Davidson shows up as Count Chocula, the host takes another opportunity to let loose.
10:06Davidson spits his fake teeth out when he can't take it anymore.
10:09Needless to say, this entire sequence benefited from a few derailments.
10:13Look at Pete Davidson's lips.
10:19Number 40.
10:20The Barry Gibb talk show, the Barry Gibb talk show, 2024 election.
10:23Here we are.
10:25Tonight, Barry's gifts are.
10:27Get a room full of strangers.
10:31In every version of this sketch, the concept seems to expand in silly ways.
10:36Jimmy Fallon goes all out as the Bee Gees' leader, while Justin Timberlake plays the sibling co-host.
10:41The singer almost breaks at a few points, but then he and his co-star have to introduce Dakota Johnson's character.
10:46So, Joanne Carducci.
10:49Joanne!
10:50Joanne!
10:51Joanne Carducci!
10:53The sketch involves so many intricate bits and musical numbers that you cannot believe it works at all.
10:58Just short of complete disaster, Timberlake giggles through the lyrics before Johnson breaks as well.
11:04Fallon stays laser-focused while his scene partners hang on for dear life.
11:08Back!
11:09Back!
11:11Hi!
11:14Number 39.
11:15Weekend Update, Smokery Farms.
11:17Here to comment are the owners of Smokery Farms' meat gift delivery service,
11:22Venetta and Wylene Starkey.
11:23For this Weekend Update segment, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon once again show off their chemistry.
11:31They play two cousins selling a collection of meats.
11:33With a prop alongside them, the performers try not to inhale the stench.
11:38It's clear they're fighting the strong smell in between funny setups.
11:41Noticing that his co-stars are flailing, Colin Jost laughs along as the basket becomes a centerpiece.
11:46Oh, wow! Look at that gorgeous little stinking basket!
11:54Bryant and McKinnon are like two kids chuckling through their school project.
11:58Jost then tries to avoid the meat altogether.
12:00Using their best Southern accents, the comedians bulldoze through the script as best they can.
12:05You like meat, Colin?
12:07Colin, you a big meat boy, Colin?
12:11I'm not closer, no.
12:15Number 38. Chris Farley as Bennett Brower.
12:18Tonight Weekend Update is happy to welcome back with another commentary, Bennett Brower.
12:22Bennett, what do you got going?
12:24How are you, Kevin? Good to see you.
12:26Known for his physical roles, Chris Farley is among the best SNL performers that could make anything funny.
12:32This premise lets him use his hands and do excessive air quotes.
12:35Farley eventually receives a boost, with wires hoisting him into the air.
12:40The sketch takes a detour as the performer gets stuck.
12:42I'm flying! I'm flying!
12:45I'm flying!
12:47Holy shnikes!
12:48With crew members shuffling around, Weekend Update host Kevin Nealon steps in to help.
12:54The lead comedian takes the moment in stride and makes a few jokes at his own expense.
12:58As Nealon laughs through the mishap, his co-star eventually soars into the air in a triumphant save.
13:04Hey, Elena!
13:07Thank you, Kevin!
13:09Thanks!
13:09Number 37. Birthday Party
13:12Wee-woo! Wee-woo!
13:14Party police, you girls are under arrest for having too much fun.
13:19As friends gather together, Ryan Gosling plays the dad.
13:22He quickly runs into a foil played by Aidy Bryant.
13:25Um, I can actually answer that because I'm 13 and a half.
13:30I'm so old now that my mom lets me shower all by myself.
13:34The latter plays a girl that's obsessed, making this party more than a little awkward.
13:39Bryant is great here with her line deliveries and interplay with the host.
13:43Gosling plays against his co-star's wild character, but he can only put up with so much.
13:47Oh, for daisy, I got a little, got a little cream here on my finger.
13:52Oh, that's okay. I can take care of that, Mr. Dilham.
13:54Morgan!
13:55No, wait!
13:55Morgan!
13:56Morgan!
13:57Morgan!
13:58He eventually breaks after a quick line from the comedian.
14:01Considering all of the hyperactivity, you wonder how he didn't break right away.
14:05The Barbie star is known for breaking on SNL, and this sketch helps him continue that tradition.
14:11When I first taught you how to swim...
14:12Oh, yeah, frickin' what?
14:14Number 36, Pepper Boy.
14:22Come here, come here.
14:23You see what I do that time with the pepper?
14:24You see what I do with the pepper?
14:25Yes, signor, Marco.
14:26When Dana Carvey returned to host, he showed that he still had his sketch comedy skills.
14:30He becomes a waiter alongside Adam Sandler.
14:33In this Italian restaurant, pepper is king.
14:36The two performers also have to utilize some outrageous accents.
14:40Going from table to table, the employees ramp up their antics
14:43with each passing customer.
14:44Let's get to the back over here.
14:46Remember to say when.
14:47Let's get behind here.
14:48Get a more of the pepper, huh?
14:50You like that, huh?
14:52You like that, huh?
14:53Sandler then has to endure the wrath of Chris Farley and his fake beard.
14:56Hiding his reaction, the performer probably wants to laugh.
15:00His sudden movement is subtle compared to his co-star's loud performance.
15:04Looking back, any of them could have broken at any point before that,
15:07given all the craziness.
15:08What does he say there?
15:10Why, yes!
15:16Say when.
15:18All right, all right.
15:19One.
15:21Number 35.
15:22Royal Family Doctor.
15:23When one has an audience with the royal...
15:26With their British accents on full blast,
15:29Bill Hader and Martin Short deliver some inspiring performances.
15:33Hader plays the straight man opposite Short's zanier character.
15:36The former plays an OB-GYN,
15:38while the latter tries to explain how to deal with royalty.
15:41This leads to some hilariously awkward roles and the older comedian's acting.
15:46I'm sorry, must we call it the royal...
15:48Well, the only other acceptable terms that I know of is the governess.
15:53The younger cast member has more than a few moments where he needs to pause.
15:57Playing a stern doctor,
15:58the Barry star needs to cover his mouth to survive his scene partner.
16:02The startling and bold choices from the Three Amigos actor
16:05could break even the most serious person.
16:15Number 34.
16:16The Sensitive Drill Sergeant.
16:18What in the hell's name is going on here?
16:20This ain't no garden party.
16:22You're lucky I don't take you pukes out in the middle of the base
16:24and stomp your asses into the ground.
16:26Do you understand me?
16:27Yes, sir!
16:28You've seen this kind of setup before.
16:29The drill sergeant intimidates his trainees with relentless insults.
16:33For the SNL version,
16:35Will Ferrell plays the military leader that's working through his emotions.
16:38He also makes his presence known by ignoring personal space.
16:41Ferrell's character focuses on David Spade's cadet,
16:44using his hat to hammer the point home.
16:46Regardless of my sexual orientation, sir,
16:49I believe I can show you how communication can help a relationship.
16:53This causes the host to break as he endures his co-star.
16:57Spade might be a Saturday Night Live veteran,
17:00but even the most experienced players would have a tough time here.
17:03The entertaining scene builds to a funny crescendo
17:05as the hat brim becomes a comedic weapon.
17:09And just how do you propose to do this, private candy ass?
17:13By making an honest connection!
17:15Number 33.
17:16Cut for Time.
17:17Gus Chiggins' Old Prospector.
17:19Old Prospector.
17:21Yes?
17:22I never, uh, did get your name.
17:26Gus Chiggins.
17:29Not every sketch makes it to the live show,
17:31but some live on as a legend.
17:33Thankfully for audiences, this sketch survives online.
17:36Will Ferrell's character is so ridiculous
17:38that he tears through most of the cast.
17:41The soldiers don't understand why an old prospector
17:43might be joining them on a mission.
17:45The group gets separated.
17:46Where's the rendezvous point?
17:47Oh!
17:49That's easy.
17:50Top of old boot hell.
17:53Just follow the dry creek bed.
17:56As Jimmy Fallon and company try to say their lines,
17:58they fumble through as Ferrell digs into the role and accent.
18:02The ensemble is in stitches before too long.
18:05As a completely random idea,
18:07this weird sketch gives the actors and audiences
18:10plenty to laugh about.
18:11I'm just afraid that with all of his pots and pans
18:13banging around, the old prospector's gonna compromise that.
18:16Why don't you just worry about yourself
18:19and leave the prospect getting up to old Gus Jiggins?
18:22Number 32.
18:23Zagat's with Hank and Beverly Gelfand.
18:25Anniversary.
18:26Hello and welcome to Zagat's.
18:29I'm Bev Gelfand and this is my husband Hank.
18:33It's a simple setup that puts two friends together in costume.
18:36Chris Farley and Adam Sandler play a married couple,
18:38looking through a guidebook for their anniversary.
18:40The husband can barely take it
18:42as the wife rambles on about restaurants.
18:44Farley moves close to Sandler,
18:46using his best expressions to badger his co-star.
18:49Oh, hear that, hey?
18:58He eventually wins as the happy Gilmore actor cracks.
19:01One performer moves in closer
19:02and the other one recoils,
19:04with the scene already hanging by a thread.
19:06It ultimately looks as if they're both trying to break each other.
19:09When Sandler tears up the book,
19:11he looks into his scene partner's eyes
19:13and creates another fun slip-up.
19:24Number 31.
19:26Dr. Beeman's Office.
19:27Test results.
19:28No, there's no Mark here.
19:31My name?
19:32It's Mark.
19:34No, I spell it with a C.
19:37Who put you up to this?
19:38This sketch might defy all kinds of rules,
19:41logic, and comedy standards.
19:43That doesn't stop all involved from doing their best.
19:46Will Farrell plays the odd and aggressive Dr. Beeman,
19:49taking phone calls and leaving the couple in suspense.
19:51He then brings in a distraction
19:53in the form of a dancing medical expert.
19:55In the end,
19:56the routine forces Farrell to mask his reaction.
19:58He and Molly Shannon cannot stay in character
20:14following all of the weird gags.
20:16You can feel the writers and actors grasping at straws,
20:19making for this mix of comedic gold and desperation.
20:22There's almost no way this sketch was ever going to go as planned.
20:25The truth is,
20:27we misplaced your baby.
20:36Number 30.
20:37Gift Wrap.
20:38Oh, yeah.
20:39She's going to have the best Christmas of her flip in life.
20:42I hope so.
20:43She's pretty special.
20:45Oh, I know she will, sir.
20:47That is my Christmas guarantee.
20:50Oh, ow.
20:51Oh, sugar, are you okay?
20:53Mm, yeah, just a, just a little paper cut.
20:56This might not be the first SNL sketch with lots of blood,
20:59but few ever go this wrong.
21:01James Franco's Gift Wrapper cuts his finger and unleashes a geyser.
21:05Leslie Jones is right in the splash zone,
21:07with some of the fake blood getting into her mouth.
21:10The actress is clearly struggling as she tries to compose herself.
21:13It might be funny for a second,
21:14but it's also really gross when you put yourself in her shoes.
21:17Good Lord!
21:19What is happening?
21:20You Christmas dreams are coming true, that's what.
21:23Let me find my special choo-choo paper.
21:28Now, you know what?
21:29I think we good, man.
21:31Kenan Thompson looks concerned as he stands next to his scene partner.
21:34While Jones tries not to be sick,
21:36Franco breaks after a gag with a fake foot.
21:39She might even deserve an award for hanging in there.
21:43That's what, a foot, that's what she said!
21:47Number 29, Beavis and Butthead.
21:49Host Ryan Gosling certainly likes to break,
21:51or at least he can't seem to help it.
21:54Look, they even sitting like they do on the show.
21:57You two really don't know that you look like Beavis and Butthead.
22:03This translates to yet another modern classic from the evil geniuses at SNL.
22:07The show puts Gosling and Mikey Day in makeup
22:10as the cartoon characters Beavis and Butthead.
22:12This sends Heidi Gardner into a laughing fit
22:14before some of her co-stars follow suit.
22:17The host also loses it,
22:18with the sketch taking a few pauses
22:20so performers can collect themselves.
22:28We don't blame any of them for giggling
22:30considering the script or the prosthetics.
22:32In the future,
22:33we hope this absurd idea comes back
22:35to crack up more people like Chloe Fineman.
22:37I don't know this gentleman.
22:39You don't know each other?
22:41No.
22:42No.
22:44Hi, I'm Dean.
22:46Jeff.
22:47Nice to meet you.
22:48Nice to meet you too.
22:49Number 28, Maine Justice with Jamie Foxx.
22:52I'll tell you see right here, right now.
22:54Okay?
22:55All right, here we go.
22:55I'm about to serve up a heaping spoonful of Maine justice, you know?
22:59Considering the circumstances,
23:01this sketch wasn't going to play out any other way.
23:04Jason Sudeikis plays a judge in Maine
23:06with a southern accent.
23:07It's already crazy before the trial gets going,
23:09confusing audiences with its funny details.
23:11Okay, all right, all right, all right,
23:13okay, okay, all of my courtroom,
23:15all of my...
23:16Y'all shoot your butts.
23:18That's right.
23:19Sudeikis' character then issues a punishment
23:22for Bobby Moynihan that breaks Jamie Foxx's bailiff.
23:25With the lead performer adding in a kiss,
23:27he forces Foxx to hide his face.
23:29Bear, lily-wide butt across the swamp
23:32to pull out that ass fire.
23:39The entire script feels like a fever dream
23:43that only gets better with these interactions.
23:46While we might have more questions than answers,
23:48we can't help but laugh as the breaking enhances the scene.
23:51number 27 another close encounter with how things went the first time around you'd think that SNL
24:05learned their lesson I'm hauled on board with my bush and my tush hanging
24:09I see my old pals the gray aliens with the big stupid fat eyes and I'm hit with the realization
24:17first time I've been on a second date since 2009 the sequel to close encounter brings back Ryan
24:23Gosling for even more antics it also keeps him laughing throughout the increasingly strange
24:28alien stories it's a fantastic source of comedy guaranteeing big reactions from the host as he
24:33deals with Kate McKinnon's character we were led down a passageway light cradled by what felt like
24:40there's also a more in-depth demonstration this time around while handling her co-star Kate McKinnon
24:54does wonders to break the Barbie actor into pieces Gosling's giggles are definitely contagious as
25:00this chaotic follow-up earns its place alongside the original thanks Todd you can sit down
25:05number 26 Benihana it's a pleasure to join you both my name is Adam Grossman I'm six years young
25:16and this is my very lovely and very single nanny Miss Lily in another take on this sketch Jonah
25:23Hill's Adam Grossman is a precocious six-year-old Leslie Jones plays his nanny Miss Lily and tries to
25:29keep it together through all of the jokes Hill's role also lets him sing using reggae tunes to break
25:34Jones the sudden burst into song makes it harder for the super bad star to keep a straight face too
25:49both performers enjoy themselves through the scene earning even more laughs from the audience the pair
25:55becomes a great comedic team here even after tripping each other up if you love Bob Marley
26:00you'll probably get a kick out of this one okay Adam let's just let the nice men enjoy their dinner
26:05okay number 25 new girlfriend Fred Armisen plays this role with both dedication and chaos the inclusion
26:21of Jason Sudeikis only makes things funnier with the two playing people that derail a party it's so nice
26:26to meet you oh really it's nice of who to meet me and what do you mean by it's
26:31isn't she beautiful gang? Armisen's abrasive guest stretches out puts her foot in guacamole
26:38and tests the other's patience is she okay? oh yeah she's okay she's more than okay now her body
26:45is like a heart that not only I know how to play and only my touch is what she responds to
26:52oh yeah there it is it also causes the former cast member to drop his act not only that the likes of
26:58Vanessa Bayer can't contain herself at one point is there any more food? I need to get something down
27:05my throat to fight what is coming up
27:07the sketch itself is hilarious and these moments heighten the experience even more
27:18by the end Aidy Bryant also breaks as the ensemble and props are pushed to the limit
27:23number 24 Hollywood Dish with Scarlett Johansson
27:27if you pair up Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader you'll make any sketch better this scene also shows that
27:42the two can break like the best of them both performers play interviewers asking all kinds
27:47of awkward and invasive questions to Scarlett Johansson this culminates with a slushy drink
27:52gag that might shock you Wiig knows it's coming and still struggles through her lines
27:56with Hader completely broken next to her
27:59I just don't watch a lot of reality television so
28:06even Johansson can't keep a straight face in a reaction shot there's a fair chance that anybody
28:16would laugh under the same conditions despite all these setbacks this sketch remains one of the
28:21funniest of its era
28:22you have great skin
28:29what's your secret
28:31number 23 Lisa from Temecula
28:35let's not forget her baby sister Lisa who flew all the way from Temecula to celebrate with us
28:41Lisa we've heard so much about you it's so nice to finally meet you
28:44that's cute but don't think I'm giving up the butt tonight
28:48with her dedicated performance Ego Wodum sets off a chain reaction that nobody can recover from
28:53her character cuts into a well-done steak and starts to shake the table host Pedro Pascal can't keep a
28:59straight face cracking up as he tries to deliver his lines
29:02he isn't the only one desperate to stay focused either Wodum pushes through in an outrageous sketch leading to some more funny reactions even Bowen Yang can't control himself falling apart as the scene builds to an entertaining climax
29:19hey everyone just want to check in on you is everything going all right we've been getting some complaints
29:25oh cuz we black
29:32through it all the cast looks like they're genuinely having fun
29:40number 22 the Barry Gibb talk show BG singers
29:56tonight Barry's guests are
29:58an old room full of strangers
30:01former California recall candidate Arianna Huffington
30:05disgusting politics
30:06lieutenant governor Cruz Bustamani
30:09in many versions of this sketch Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake have carried on a musical tradition
30:18they play Barry and Robin Gibb in this ridiculous talk show
30:22Fallon takes over with his lively accent sending his collaborator for a loop
30:26Robin do you have anything to add?
30:28no
30:30no I don't
30:32nothing nothing at all
30:34the Gibb brothers have never seemed so dysfunctional or hilarious
30:44Timberlake cracks under the pressure unable to stay in character as his co-star flies off the handle
30:49the host understandably breaks after listening to his scene partner's falsettos
30:53with the singer trying to keep up this bizarre premise gets both the guest performer and audience chuckling
31:06number 21 the Californians
31:08Stewart has cancer
31:09any time this recurring sketch shows up you know you're in for a good time
31:13maybe you should get going before Stewart gets home
31:15alright
31:16I was thinking I'd take Canyon View driver to San Vicente
31:19and then make a left and get on the four or five north
31:21and from there just get off them all hauling
31:23I totally like that
31:25this scene lets the cast poke fun at soap operas and Southern California in general
31:31when Fred Armisen's character Stewart shows up
31:34the sketch starts to break down in funny ways
31:36Bill Hader tries to keep a straight face but he's no match for Armisen's expressive voice
31:41there's nothing going on Stewart
31:43you can see Hader hanging on for dear life as his co-stars keep pushing forward
31:49even the best SNL performers lose control with Kristen Wiig almost cracking up during a later moment
31:55everyone manages to finish strong as the dramatic revelations and directions keep going
32:13when you see the zanko chicken on the left and right
32:16take Venice and follow it all the way down
32:18then you're in Marina del Rey
32:20you eat it?
32:24how do you know so much about Marina del Rey?
32:28number 20 girlfriend's game night
32:32in 2018 Bill Hader hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time since leaving the show five years earlier
32:38and he left everyone including his co-stars in stitches
32:42in this sketch Hader plays Horace
32:45the elderly husband to SNL regular Cecily Strong
32:48who's attending a game night with her girlfriends
32:50it's here let's go
32:53it's revealed that Horace has just popped to see Alice
32:56causing Strong to hop on his lap as the pill only lasts a couple of minutes
33:00Hader proceeds to use his vehicular prop to great comedic effect
33:03ultimately causing everyone involved to break character
33:15Hader later discussed the scene on late night with Seth Meyers
33:18and once again struggled to contain his laughter
33:20you should be ashamed of yourselves
33:27number 19 Stefan and Shy
33:30the brainchild of Bill Hader and John Mulaney
33:33Stefan was introduced in 2008
33:35and quickly became a fan favorite
33:37New York's hottest club is Pants
33:44the world said goodbye to the weekend update correspondent
33:47whose knowledge of New York City's most bizarre hotspots
33:49was both hilarious and unparalleled in 2013
33:53but since then Stefan has still found time to make a guest appearance or two
33:57do people still use the word
34:07in 2018 Stefan resurfaced along with his lawyer Shy played by Mulaney
34:12and wasted no time getting everyone to crack up
34:15including Hader and update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che
34:18Hader laughs throughout the entire sketch
34:21leading us to believe he was reading the script for the first time
34:24how else do you explain it
34:27and he whispered in my ear to make me laugh
34:28he said
34:29my girlfriend
34:31because my girlfriend works at Yoshinoa beef bowl
34:36number 18
34:37Simon's dreidel backed with Minora in the window
34:39these two iconic characters have made numerous appearances over the years
34:43Hey!
34:45Hi!
34:46Hello!
34:47Thank you!
34:48Hi!
34:49Everything okay guys?
34:50No we just um...
34:51Played to perfection by Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig
34:54Garth and Kat are a songwriting team
34:56that just can't find time to rehearse their songs
34:58The mountains!
34:59The mountains!
35:00The mountains!
35:01The mountains!
35:02The mountains!
35:03The mountains!
35:04The mountains!
35:05The mountains!
35:06The mountains!
35:07In fact, to get into character
35:09Wig and Armisen never rehearsed their performances
35:11something Wig called
35:12quote
35:13freeing and fun
35:14perhaps that's why both actors regularly burst into fits of laughter during sketches
35:18as neither knew what to expect from the other
35:20watching Wig try and keep up as Armisen just wings a performance is truly amazing
35:25it's no wonder they couldn't keep it together
35:27Gross!
35:29Number 17
35:34Fernando's Hideaway with Hulk Hogan and Mr. T
35:37A recurring sketch from the 80's era of SNL involved Billy Crystal parodying Argentinian actor Fernando Lamas
35:43in a sketch called Fernando's Hideaway
35:45I'm into Hideaway today with one of the biggest names in baseball
35:48It's got 12 letters in it, I counted it myself
35:51Crystal would slap on a thick Spanish accent and interview celebrities
35:55often getting their names and other tidbits of personal information wrong throughout the interview
35:59One of the most famous sketches saw Crystal interviewing wrestlers slash actors Hulk Hogan and Mr. T
36:04Despite their attempts to keep a straight face
36:06Hogan and Mr. T both break character near the end of the sketch
36:10after Crystal ad-libs a line about exercise equipment
36:13I was at the Hollywood party with this person ordered if you know what I'm saying to you
36:19It would appear that everyone is susceptible to breaking while in the presence of a gifted comedian like Billy Crystal
36:27You know when you laugh your little things will go bam-bam-bam-bam-bam-bam-bam
36:31Number 16
36:33Scared Straight
36:34This sketch from 2009 had no shortage of top-notch comedic talent
36:37We caught these kids drinking beers behind Pathmark
36:40Tracy Morgan, Kenan Thompson, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Bobby Moynihan are all featured
36:47And when that many funny people are in a room together, things are bound to get a little silly
36:56The sketch saw Morgan and Thompson playing convicts attempting to scare a trio of kids who are arrested for underage drinking
37:02The only problem? They keep using the plots of popular movies to describe prison
37:06All right
37:13Want to learn your lesson?
37:19Thompson and Hader are the worst offenders in this one
37:21But everyone cracks at one point or another
37:23You try making it through without letting a smile creep across your face
37:26Cause this here is real
37:28Number 15
37:30Kissing Family
37:31Featuring SNL legends Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Kate McKinnon, Maya Rudolph and Taryn Killam
37:39As well as Paul Rudd
37:41This sketch is a blueprint for how to make A-list comedic talent break character
37:51The Kissing Family is a recurring skit that involves an outsider being introduced to an overly affectionate family
37:56In this instance, the outsider is played by Killam
37:58And he is justifiably shocked to learn that his boyfriend's family kisses each other on the lips
38:04Among other things, with zero regard for anyone else's feelings
38:08Matt's right
38:09Sometimes we get so caught up in loving our own family we forget about
38:16Armisen cracks first, followed by Hader
38:18But there are fissures of laughter peppered throughout the entire sketch
38:21With this much talent in the room?
38:23It's no wonder this sketch devolved into a full-on breakfest
38:26Number 14
38:34Family Feud Celebrity Edition
38:36NBC vs. CBS
38:38As long-time friends and collaborators
38:40It isn't exactly surprising to learn that Justin Timberlake does a mean Jimmy Fallon impression
38:44So great, so great, celebrities playing games, nothing better, so fun
38:48Am I right, my man?
38:51He got to bust it out during a 2013 appearance on SNL
38:54During a game of Celebrity Family Feud
38:56And guess who was also playing?
38:58Jimmy Fallon
38:59Jimmy Fallon
39:01Are you kidding me?
39:02That is how it's done, my man
39:03He's so great, am I right?
39:05Fallon, who is infamous for his inability to keep it together during sketches
39:09Was playing the Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons
39:11The two celebs went toe-to-toe right off the bat
39:14And immediately had to turn away from the camera to hide their laughter
39:17So many great answers
39:19So many
39:20They're so great
39:22So great, my man
39:24But Steve
39:27Later, Timberlake's impression was so accurate
39:30It caused Fallon to duck behind his podium
39:32Struck by a serious case of the giggles
39:34So great
39:35It's classic Fallon
39:37Number 13
39:38Frankenstein's Monster Cracks Up
39:40The late, great Phil Hartman was a fixture on Saturday Night Live between 1986 and 1994
39:46In that time, he portrayed a slew of iconic characters
39:49Not the least of which was his hilarious impression of Frankenstein's monster
39:53Tonto?
39:55Bread good, Kemosabe
39:57In this sketch, Frankenstein's monster, Tarzan and Tonto are being asked what they think about things like fire and bread
40:04This naturally leads to some hilarious responses from the three famously poor speakers
40:09We actually have to applaud Hartman for staying in character as long as he did
40:18However, even the best break eventually
40:20Well, that's all the time we have
40:22Join us next week when we'll be talking with the cavemen from Quest for Fire
40:27Thank you
40:30For Hartman, that moment came when he was asked how he felt about a recent nuclear arms treaty
40:37This stuff never gets old
40:39Number 12
40:40Donnie's Party
40:41Introduced in 1999, the Boston teens made regular appearances during the run of Jimmy Fallon and Rachel Dratch
40:47I would be Gryffindor
40:48You are Hufflepuff and you know it
40:50You are
40:51Known for their thick Boston accents and love of the Red Sox
40:56As well as for constantly bickering and making up
40:59The characters regularly caused others to bust a gut
41:01Bro
41:02Bro
41:06Bro
41:07One of the most infamous cases involved Boston boy Ben Affleck
41:10Who simply could not contain his laughter while at a party with the Boston teens
41:14Watching him say bro over and over again while struggling to keep it together is priceless
41:19Naturally, Fallon couldn't keep a straight face either
41:22Number 11
41:23Career Day
41:24Adam Driver helped SNL kick off their 44th season with a handful of hilarious performances
41:29That all deserve their time in the spotlight
41:31However, this list is about actors breaking character
41:34So we'll focus on just one
41:37Career Day
41:38Look at your father boy
41:41Look upon your father with pride
41:43I see you man
41:45In the sketch, Driver plays an elderly and ruthless oil baron
41:48Who visits his son's class for career day
41:50Now what does an oil baron do?
41:53The answer?
41:55Crush your enemies!
41:57Grind their bones into dirt!
41:59Pete Davidson plays the son
42:01And boy is he ever put through the ringer
42:03Driver delivers a blistering performance
42:05Causing Davidson to break character on multiple occasions
42:08Including the first time he's addressed
42:10I have to lift you myself, chickens!
42:14I've crushed you into the ground!
42:17From there, it's all downhill for the young actor
42:20As Driver never once falters in his performance
42:23Dad, come on!
42:25Number 10
42:26Close Encounter
42:27It was clear from the first minute of this sketch
42:29That host Ryan Gosling was not going to make it through without breaking character
42:32I came to and saw a beautiful being made of like a beautiful, calming light
42:38Yeah, same here
42:40That being touched my head
42:41And I felt every emotion in its purest form
42:44After being abducted by aliens
42:46Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Gosling each recount their experience with the extraterrestrials
42:51I started peeing and one of the grey aliens slapped the wall and pointed at the bowl
42:57So I got the hint, I kind of duck walked over the bowl and peed in it
43:01Yes, I see
43:02However, McKinnon's version differs wildly from the other two
43:06So much so, in fact, that Gosling was basically stifling a laugh for the entire sketch
43:11Strong, Bobby Moynihan, and Aidy Bryant all eventually broke
43:14And even McKinnon had to repress a laugh at one point
43:17As previously mentioned, later in the episode, Gosling falls victim to a hilarious performance by Aidy Bryant
43:23Whose portrayal of a boundaryless teenager caused him to once again break character
43:27Wow, I guess everyone knows how dirty I am
43:31Do you like that, Mr. Dilham?
43:36Actually, no, I do not like that, okay?
43:39That's disgusting
43:40Number 9, Super Showcase
43:43Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph took a forgettable game show sketch
43:46And elevated it to new heights with their hilarious fake European accents
43:50Show Debra what was in her showcase
43:52Bad news, Debra
43:53You didn't win his and hers matching luggage by luggage guy
43:56If it's not luggage guy luggage, it's just a bunch of luggage from someplace
44:00The two SNL alumni play off each other beautifully
44:03Though that means as soon as one breaks character, the other isn't far behind
44:07Things start to spiral out of control when the two women roll up in a golf cart
44:17While Wiig immediately catches a case of the giggles, Rudolph manages to stay in character a little longer
44:22You'll be a rough swinger with this
44:24Little guys matching golf carts
44:26By golf cart
44:28For...
44:34Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Bill Hader
44:36Who has to hide behind his hands to contain his laughter
44:39The whole thing culminates with a still laughing wig crashing through the set in a golf cart
44:44Seriously?
44:45How do they come up with this stuff?
44:46It's always time to call the red box!
44:53Number 8, Lava's in the Hot Tub
44:55Surprise, surprise
44:57A sketch featuring Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon
44:59Ended in multiple people breaking character
45:01Barbara, what brings you to the prestigious Well-Jee-Args?
45:05The usual
45:07Quiet strolls, family style dining, archery
45:11This iconic bit saw Ferrell and Rachel Dratch playing overly affectionate lovers
45:15Soaking in a hot tub
45:16And trying to play matchmaker to Fallon and host Drew Barrymore
45:19Dave
45:21Dave
45:23Dave
45:25David
45:27Well, as you can probably glean from Ferrell's ridiculous costume
45:31It didn't take long before everybody was on the verge of a full-on meltdown
45:35Barbara Hernandez
45:38Is the top female archer in the Northeast Division
45:43That's unbelievable
45:45Tack on the fact that Ferrell later admitted that the goal was to quote
45:48Make Jimmy Fallon laugh
45:50And you have the recipe for a sketch that's guaranteed to have multiple broken characters
45:54Need more proof that Ferrell is a character breaking machine?
45:56Check out his short shorts for the USA clip
45:58You are welcome
46:00I guess what it all comes down to is that the angle of my dangle
46:06Is inversely proportional to the heat of my meat, right?
46:16In this iconic sketch, SNL legend Gilda Radner and host Candace Bergen prove that breaking character is as easy as flubbing a single line of dialogue
46:24You're not too bright
46:26You're not too bright, are you, Fern?
46:28I mean...
46:30Whatever your name was
46:32The slip-up occurs when Bergen accidentally refers to Radner as Fern
46:36Which is actually the name of Bergen's character
46:38While Bergen attempts to rectify her mistake
46:40Radner uses her trademark wit to destroy her
46:44Quipping
46:46You can't be brainy like Fern here
46:50At this point, all pretense of finishing the sketches planned has gone out the window
46:54As both women are dying of laughter
46:56Extremely stupid people are discriminated against all the time
47:00And I should know
47:02And so should Fern
47:04Cause we are
47:06It's moments like this that make SNL so much fun to watch
47:12Debbie Downer is one of the funniest characters in SNL's prestigious repertoire
47:16Brilliantly brought to life by Rachel Dratch
47:18Debbie can instantly transform any situation into a total bummer
47:22For the other characters, that is
47:24Roy of Siegfried and Roy
47:26He was attacked by his own tiger and suffered devastating injuries
47:36As far as the audience, cast members, and viewers at home are concerned
47:40She is a riot
47:42One of her most famous appearances occurred at Disney World
47:44Where she's somehow managed to ruin the happiest place on earth with her depressing anecdotes
47:48While Fallon breaks first, shocker, Dratch is not far behind
47:52I can't have children
47:58This inevitably caused the whole table to crack up
48:00Horatio Sands cries
48:02And Lindsay Lohan bangs the table in a fit of laughter
48:04All the while, Dratch can barely keep it together
48:08Number 5
48:10Cork Soakers
48:12In this hilarious sketch from 2004
48:14Host slash musical guest Janet Jackson visits a winery
48:16And learns how to soak corks from a group of Italian winemakers
48:20The scene is littered with double entendres meant to have viewers in stitches
48:24As you can see, we are soaking all the corks in this room right now
48:28These three guys right here are some of the most talented corks soakers
48:32However, as the writers probably assumed
48:34When they penned this side-splittingly funny sketch
48:36It was the actors who were laughing harder than anyone
48:38So how did you learn to soak corks?
48:42Soak corks
48:44Soak corks
48:46With giggles emanating from all corners of the set
48:48Jackson can barely get her lines out
48:50And honestly, we feel for her
48:52So does your wife like soaking?
48:54Soaking corks?
48:56Soaking corks?
48:58Well, she used to when we were dating
49:00Now, not so much
49:02However, the biggest surprise was that perpetual character breaker
49:06Jimmy Fallon stayed composed throughout the entire sketch
49:08Number 4
49:10I live in a van down by the river
49:12Few comedians are as revered as the late, great Chris Farley
49:16He could make anyone break with his unique brand of physical humor
49:20And often did
49:22I am 35 years old
49:24I am divorced
49:26And I live in a van down by the river
49:30While he has a slew of iconic SNL characters
49:34You'd be hard-pressed to put any of them above Matt Foley, motivational speaker
49:38Brian
49:40From what I've heard
49:42You're using your paper not for writing
49:44But for rolling doobies
49:46In the character's first Saturday Night Live appearance
49:50Farley managed to break host Christina Applegate
49:52And SNL regular David Spade in seconds with his over-the-top performance
49:56Which included hoisting Spade into the air
49:58And warning the teens about ending up like him
50:01He broke everyone else the moment he screamed
50:04I'm sick and tired of living in a van down by the river
50:08Number 3
50:10Jeffries
50:11In this 2001 sketch, host Sean Hayes joined Jimmy Fallon and Will Ferrell in their Jeffries sketch
50:15Which sees the three men playing retail workers at a high-end clothing store
50:19Yeah, look, we don't carry diesel
50:21We work at Jeffries
50:23We read Italian Vogue, it's our deal
50:25The gag involves them being extremely rude
50:27And condescending to customers who they deem unstylish
50:29True to form
50:31Fallon is laughing before the skit even begins
50:33This is a genuine Looney Tunes jacket
50:43Hayes breaks shortly thereafter
50:45And for the rest of the sketch
50:46The two men can barely contain their laughter for more than a few seconds
50:49Once Will Ferrell appears on a motorized wheelchair
50:51This sketch is over and done with
50:55We're going to the Dolce & Gabbana show
50:57How fast can you have your bags packed for Mirage?
51:03I've got my Jack Speed bag packed already
51:05Oddly enough, this isn't the first time a clothing based sketch
51:09Involving Horatio Sands and Jimmy Fallon
51:11Devolved into one giant character break session
51:13We give you The Leatherman
51:25Featuring vets like Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan, Chris Parnell and Horatio Sands
51:31Not to mention the indomitable Christopher Walken
51:33More Cowbell is the stuff of sketch comedy legend
51:36And was so the second it began to air
51:39Are you sure that was sounding okay?
51:40I'll be honest, fellas, it was sounding great
51:42But I could have used a little more cowbell
51:48The cast plays Blue Oyster Cult
51:50While guest Walken portrays record producer Bruce Dickinson
51:53A man who has a fever for more cowbell
51:56Watching Ferrell gesticulate all over the room
51:58In a shirt that is way, way, way too small
52:00Is absolutely side-splitting
52:02I'd be doing myself a disservice
52:05And every member of this band
52:07If I didn't perform the hell out of this
52:09Walken breaks, Kattan breaks, Sands breaks, Fallon breaks, even Ferrell breaks
52:14In the pantheon of SNL's worst or best character breaks
52:17This one takes the cake
52:19Or as the case may be, the cowbell

52:37Number 1. Stefan on Halloween
52:40You all knew Stefan would be back at number 1
52:43In this all-time moment
52:45Fan-favorite Stefan stops by Weekend Update
52:47To advise partygoers on where to find some not-so-family fun on Halloween
52:52Located in an abandoned white fish factory in Little Israel
52:56Bill Hader breaks character numerous times
52:59Something he'd replicate in an autumn-themed appearance a couple of years later
53:02Needless to say, this place has everything
53:04Skunks, K-Fobs, Cookie Crisp, Dan Cortez
53:09As one YouTube commenter points out
53:13It makes you wonder whether Hader developed Stefan's signature hand-over-mouth quirk
53:17As a way to hide his constant giggling
53:19Well, they have a Jewish Dracula
53:22Oh, what's his name?
53:23Sidney Applebaum
53:25Throughout the clip, Hader finds himself unable to speak
53:31Overcome by laughter
53:33And while Seth Meyers does his best to remain composed
53:35He is far from invincible when it comes to keeping a straight face
53:38You know you've come up with comedic gold when Hader is crying tears of laughter
53:43Enjoy, folks!
