00:00Now, as your father probably told you, my name is Matt Foley.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:07And today, we're counting down our picks for more of the most memorable character breaks
00:11and or on-air mistakes in SNL history.
00:15It was right after we delivered him.
00:16I went out to grab a bite to eat, and I forgot I had him with me.
00:23Number 10, Beavis and Butthead.
00:25Uh, sir, sir, do you mind moving?
00:33I'm sorry?
00:34Nobody could have expected this one to go viral.
00:36Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day don some convincing makeup with a distracting connection to a TV show.
00:43Heidi Gardner then starts to break as she looks back at them.
00:46Kindly, kindly move seats.
00:53She's talking to you.
00:54The laughs don't stop there either, with Gosling doing his best overdramatic acting.
01:00Breaking turns this ridiculous idea into one of the more famous sketches in recent memory.
01:05As the cast and host crack each other up, the audience might be wondering how this Beavis
01:10and Butthead skit even happened.
01:12It's all super entertaining regardless of the intended effect.
01:16Hi, I'm Dean.
01:17I'm Dean.
01:18Chef.
01:19Nice to meet you.
01:20Nice to meet you too.
01:21Nice to meet you.
01:21Yeah.
01:22All right, let's take a break.
01:23Number 9, Pepper Boy.
01:26A fresh pepper?
01:27Oh, sure.
01:28All right.
01:29Say when?
01:31When?
01:32Grazie.
01:33With Dana Carvey and Adam Sandler doing accents, this sketch really gets going.
01:38Both waiters prepare to dish out pepper with panache.
01:41The big turn comes when Chris Farley utters a line with Gravitas.
01:45Why, thank you, Pepper Boy.
01:49That's the perfect amount of pepper.
01:52Bravo!
01:53Oh, grazie.
01:56Adam Sandler needs to turn his face and mask his reaction, almost breaking character multiple times.
02:03You might even hear Carvey telling Sandler not to break under his breath.
02:08The tight-knit cast almost egg each other on, while struggling to not fall over laughing.
02:13Say when?
02:15All right, all right.
02:16One.
02:17Two.
02:21Three.
02:22It might not go off without a hitch, but it does make for an entertaining and wacky skit.
02:30Number 8, Doctor.
02:31It's not my fault.
02:34What?
02:34It's not my fault that he's dead.
02:38I was there for the whole thing.
02:39Nothing odd happened in there.
02:42Even the insane setup to this sketch doesn't prepare you for its surprises.
02:46As soon as Ryan Gosling walks out in his outfit, the fuse is lit and the skit starts to wobble.
02:52While the plot of this scene is hard to guess, you know that Gosling is about to crack at any moment.
02:58When he points the camera the wrong way, he starts a long series of giggles.
03:02Could you say that into the camera?
03:04No, doctor, please.
03:08How did you know my last name?
03:10This doesn't even count when Molly Kearney hits Bowen Yang's foot with a wheelchair.
03:15There's mistakes, laughter, and chaos galore before it's all over.
03:19For a Saturday Night Live sketch, we couldn't ask for anything more.
03:22We didn't think it was anyone's fault.
03:25Hmm, so we agree.
03:27It's not my fault.
03:28Could each of you say that one at a time?
03:30Number 7, Gift Wrap.
03:32Let me just fluff your bow.
03:34Can't send you home with a floppy bow.
03:37How much do I owe you?
03:38Aw, you've been such a super sweet customer.
03:41I think I'm gonna have to waive the $5 charge.
03:43This holiday-themed sketch starts off normal enough, but then a fake injury happens.
03:48James Franco plays an employee that starts bleeding.
03:51You've seen this kind of thing before, but the mishap comes when blood gets into Leslie Jones' mouth.
03:57She can't stay in character when she's gagging, either.
04:01You Christmas dreams are coming true, that's what.
04:04Let me find my special choo-choo paper.
04:08Nah, you know what?
04:09I think we good, man.
04:11The gross-out scene is nothing short of surprising, but rarely do special effects go quite this wrong.
04:17We feel bad for the actress, while we also recognize that it's hard not to laugh.
04:22Even Kenan Thompson looks concerned for his scene partner.
04:25We're just glad that nobody ended up getting sick on the set.
04:29I'm just spraying blood in my...
04:31Look, no, the problem is that I'm not having a choo-choo paper, but look, you can pick any of the patterns on the wall behind me here.
04:41Number 6.
04:42Corksoakers
04:43These three guys right here are some of the most talented corksoakers.
04:47Say hello, you old corksoakers.
04:49Hey!
04:49Good job!
04:50Good job!
04:50When Janet Jackson hosted, she entered into what could be called a classic sketch.
04:57The singer's role deals with some excitable winemakers that specialize in corks.
05:02While Jimmy Fallon and company do fun accents, Jackson has to ask questions without laughing.
05:09She can't quite pull off her dialogue without chuckling.
05:11So how did you learn to sort corks?
05:16Soap corks.
05:18You know, I'll never forget the first time I soaked a cork.
05:21The artist is helpless against this funny scene, with her co-stars mostly keeping themselves together.
05:27You almost think that it's going to collapse, but even Jimmy makes it through without completely derailing the skit.
05:33This one certainly builds up to an entertaining and somewhat shaky landing.
05:37This is all really so fascinating, so do you think that one of you could teach me how to sew corks?
05:45I know it!
05:45I know it!
05:47Number 5.
05:48Jeffries with Sean Hayes
05:50Do you guys carry, uh, diesel brand jeans?
05:55Yeah, we also carry Hoodie and the Blowfish albums.
05:57Shall I wrap one up with a backwards baseball cap when the tape of the Cheers finale?
06:01At this designer clothing store, the employees are snooty and the boss has an interesting form of transportation.
06:07The breaks happen earlier with Horatio Sands, but they become even bigger when Will Ferrell shows up.
06:13His boss character rides a scooter, cracking up Jimmy Fallon and host Sean Hayes.
06:18We don't blame them either, given the absurd sight.
06:21Hey, you guys.
06:27Hold on.
06:29As Ferrell prepares to say his lines, his accessories only provide more chances for giggling.
06:34This fashion skit is chock full of some outrageous moments that break up the ensemble.
06:40Fallon almost guarantees that they keep happening, unable to keep a straight face for long.
06:45We're going to the Dolce & Gabbana show.
06:47How fast can you have your bags packed for Mirage?
06:52Well, I've got my Jack's lead bag packed already.
06:56Number 4.
06:57Dr. Beeman's office.
06:58Test results.
06:59In any number of sketches, you might be asking yourself how an idea came about.
07:14This is especially true for this medical scene.
07:17Lines and insults come out of nowhere, with Tim Meadows showing up to do a comic dance.
07:22There's absolutely nothing I can do for your son, but I can do the robot.
07:32That'll be $5,000.
07:34Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon both break after an amazing depiction of the robot?
07:39While the skit ends up being even funnier, we're not sure if this ever could have been normal.
07:44The all-around train wreck certainly deserves a watch for how spectacular it is.
07:49Ferrell's superb acting only enhances the experience, giving this chaotic premise another North Star.
07:55I forgot I had him with me.
07:59Then I met some friends for a beer.
08:02We went to a Bodine's concert.
08:04And son of a Vondruck, if I didn't leave him at the concert hall.
08:09Number 3.
08:10Extremely Stupid.
08:11As a matter of fact, you're extremely stupid.
08:14Well, you're right, Fern.
08:16You know, and I'm proud of him.
08:18During the earlier years of Saturday Night Live, you might not see as many big character breaks.
08:24Five-timer host Candice Bergen helped give the show one of its first notable fails.
08:30Bergen is supposed to be the smart one in this sketch, with Gilda Radner playing stupid.
08:35The guest host ends up flubbing the name of Radner's character.
08:38Well, that's because you poured it in your purse, you see.
08:41Oh!
08:42You're not too bright, are you, Fern?
08:45I mean, whatever your name was.
08:49Things get even better when the dialogue continues, with the performers showing just how much the skit has gone wrong.
08:55You could easily argue that this made the sketch five times funnier.
08:59In the end, Bergen doubling over with laughter gives this scene another iconic visual.
09:05Extremely stupid people are discriminated against all the time.
09:09And I should know, and so should Fern, because we are.
09:15Extremely stupid people.
09:17Number 2.
09:18The Barry Gibb talk show, Bee Gees Singers.
09:21Back in the 2000s, Justin Timberlake showed up on SNL and helped to start a tradition.
09:30He and Jimmy Fallon play members of the Bee Gees in this skit.
09:34The sketch takes a hilarious turn as Timberlake struggles.
09:37You have a best-selling book all about the right.
09:41But as a Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger pro-choice, pro-guine control,
09:45pro-guine rights,
09:46don't mean to the right wing of the Republican Party.
09:49Fallon is so dedicated with his falsetto,
09:52breaking his co-star in the process.
09:54Given the absurdity of this idea,
09:56the music and crazy dialogue are bound to trip up anybody.
10:00It's incredible that The Tonight Show host
10:02doesn't start the chain of laughter himself.
10:04It's no wonder that the beloved sketch became a recurring bit
10:08for all its comedic tension.
10:09I'm Barry Gibb, I will put you in the ground.
10:14I'll put you in the ground.

10:32Number 1.
10:33Matt Foley, Van Down by the River
10:35In what might be his most iconic sketch,
10:51Chris Farley gets into his motivational speaker role.
10:53The character Matt Foley was never funnier
10:56than during his debut on Saturday Night Live.
10:59Not only was the audience laughing,
11:01the co-stars also got a kick out of it.
11:03Farley gets up close and personal with David Spade
11:06and Christina Applegate.
11:08You're gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese
11:12and living in a van down by the river.
11:16The result is some smirks and giggles,
11:18with Spade trying to hide his face from the camera.
11:21Those kinds of reactions helped to make this
11:23an all-time moment for the show.
11:25With the lead performer going all out,
11:27the wild antics make for extra laughter.
11:30Thanks for all you've done.
11:32I don't give a rat's behind because I'm moving in.
11:35I'm sick and tired of living in a van down by the river.
11:39Did we forget another memorable SNL mistake?
