00:00Becoming rich easily, without doing much for it, wouldn't that be perfect?
00:06How to make real money with AI. Part 4.
00:09I think I've just found one of the most amazing AIs ever,
00:12with which you can earn your first 1000 euros online within a week.
00:15Start earning your first money with AI today.
00:17Minor spoiler alert: it's not quite that simple.
00:20But artificial intelligence can already help us get our finances under control.
00:24As a shopping consultant who finds me the cheapest offers?
00:28Yes, it's daring, but I would wear it.
00:31But it also makes fraud easier.
00:33Yes, I fell for it.
00:35AI as an investment advisor.
00:37Who would invest the 1000 euros better?
00:40It can help save energy.
00:43The invoice amount is 0 euros.
00:45And soon even filing your tax return.
00:48Our lives with AI. Making money with artificial intelligence?
00:53Frankfurt am Main is the financial heart of Germany.
00:57The stock exchange here is not only our national hotspot when it comes to money,
01:02but one of the largest trading centers for securities worldwide.
01:07We're starting an experiment here today.
01:10Can artificial intelligence already handle money better?
01:13as people who are familiar with the trading of valuables?
01:16It's about 1000 euros in starting capital in just two months.
01:19And he wants to take on our AI plant challenge.
01:23Fabian Pfau, 24 years old. He studies banking and finance in Cologne.
01:28Fabian also trades stocks privately, with the support of artificial intelligence.
01:33I occasionally trade using AI and I'm very curious to see how this will turn out.
01:38His opponent, Lara Bender, 38, is a financial blogger and an investor herself.
01:44She successfully trades with her family's assets, sometimes taking risks.
01:48She will also try to increase 1000 euros for us, without AI tips.
01:55I have never used AI before.
01:57Regarding the stock portfolios I manage. And I'm very curious to see if the AI can invest better than I can.
02:03But before we begin, I want to know what the situation is with AI among the professionals on the court?
02:09I'm meeting my colleague Samir Ibrahim from the ARD finance department.
02:13I see so many people working here. It's really impressive.
02:16How much AI is already being used here?
02:18Manageable. The financial world is very cautious about anything it releases in any form.
02:24AI also means feeding a system with information that you don't actually want to disclose.
02:31This information ends up on a server that you don't control.
02:35Is the artificial intelligence truly autonomous at any point here, i.e., operating independently?
02:40It's all still in its infancy. Of course, one thinks about it.
02:43And of course, BaFin, the financial supervisory authority, is also thinking about this.
02:47It's something that attracts. It streamlines processes. It provides support.
02:52But definitely not truly self-sufficient.
02:55The absolute professionals are in charge here now.
02:58But do you think that artificial intelligence could one day be something for the private investor at home?
03:04Sure. We'll provide support there too.
03:07Our experiment will demonstrate what AI is already capable of today.
03:11Can ChatGPT student Fabian help invest 1,000 euros better in two months than financial blogger Lara with her expertise?
03:20Lara, you've been investing for quite some time now. How do you currently stay informed?
03:25I do read daily newspapers, but I also use my mobile phone a lot.
03:29I have several apps with the latest economic news.
03:32What do you mean, you're on your phone all day?
03:34A little bit, yes. If you have a trade in progress, then definitely.
03:39And then it's also important to react as quickly as possible.
03:41Fabian, you're still studying. How do you use ChatGPT? Specifically, how do you prompt?
03:45Yes, so I go there and for the very first time, ChatGPT already has a lot of data about me.
03:51I text with him very often, and he remembers everything.
03:53For example, I also told him that he has to double and triple check everything before he can give it to me.
03:57That works relatively well.
03:59Otherwise, I'll just go there and give him a role, especially in that context.
04:03For example, investment advisors or financial experts.
04:05And then I tell him, guys, please summarize relevant financial news from around the world
04:10and suggest the do's and don'ts to me.
04:13Lara, what is your strategy for the experiment?
04:16I always enjoy looking at fallen angels in the stock market.
04:19For example, a stock that has been heavily punished.
04:22Why was she penalized? Was it a market overreaction?
04:25And that sometimes presents some really great investment opportunities.
04:29Time to give it a try.
04:31Lara and Fabian will make their first trade, i.e., buy shares, right here.
04:35Who can invest the 1,000 euros better?
04:39Lara, would you like to start?
04:40I'm trading a stock that isn't so dependent on interest rates and is also a fallen angel.
04:45And that is the stock of Novo Nordisk.
04:48The pharmaceutical company with the well-known weight-loss injection.
04:51I thought I'd take 200 euros to start with and I'll use a three-way lever.
04:57So the stock will rise three times as fast.
04:59Conversely, the stock could also fall three times as fast.
05:03Lara is trading with extremely high risk.
05:06Because she could even lose more than she invests.
05:09Bam, 200 euros out and bought shares.
05:11Yes.
05:12How would that work for you, Fabian?
05:14I sought advice from TradeGPT.
05:17My core investment is 87 euros, which I put into iShares Euro Ultra Shop bonds.
05:21This is an ETF.
05:22An ETF is a special type of equity fund.
05:25He too bundles shares of many companies.
05:27If one company crashes, the profits of others compensate for it.
05:31A frequently recommended form of investment.
05:34It fluctuates very little; it is very safe.
05:36Did ChatGPT's decision surprise you, or are you going along with it...?
05:40He was very, very defensive, yes.
05:42Because the two months we are trading now is actually a very short period of time for trading.
05:46In the long run, things almost always go up.
05:47I'm curious to see how AI performs when it comes to investing.
05:51Will she be a bull or a bear?
05:54But AI can do more than just make money.
05:57It can also help save money.
05:59Next challenge: shopping.
06:01More and more people in Germany are doing this online instead of in the city center.
06:06Preferably directly on the smartphone.
06:08For example, with Rufus, Amazon's first AI shopping assistant.
06:13He gives me shopping tips.
06:14For example, what are good gifts for teachers?
06:19Notebooks.
06:20Books.
06:21Hi.
06:22OK.
06:23Plant.
06:24Or what do I need for an indoor garden?
06:27Plant lamps, plant pots, potting soil, irrigation system and plant stands.
06:34Perhaps the plants are still missing.
06:37Rufus isn't particularly creative when it comes to gifts.
06:41Basically, you could just Google it.
06:43Fashion accounts for the largest share of online shopping, even ahead of electronics.
06:51And AI is already playing a significant role there as well.
06:55One of the best things you can do with ChatGPT is to do a personal color analysis.
07:01That means the colors that look particularly flattering on me are R tones, gemstone colors, and warm neutral tones.
07:08Even in Germany, high-revenue retailers like Otto or Zalando already have their own AI assistants in their shops.
07:15However, they are still reaching their limits.
07:18Bots like ChatGPT and Peplexity, on the other hand, even use my photo to advise me, search for suitable products and compare prices.
07:27Mandy from "Neues für mich" tried out how well that works.
07:31Mandy Reiners is in her mid-30s, a mother of three, and prefers to wear comfortable clothes in black.
07:37Her mission? To use AI to shop for two outfits she wouldn't normally wear.
07:44I need one formal outfit and one business outfit. Both looks should be as inexpensive as possible.
07:50Yes, I'm just very curious. I don't know, I've never dealt with this AI before.
07:55That's why I am here; I have high expectations.
07:58Mandy and I have an appointment at Sandra Dinga's boutique in Düsseldorf to place her AI order.
08:04As a fashion professional, she will help me assess how well the AI provided advice.
08:08You just want to take a look inside. Yes, absolutely. How did you go about it?
08:13I started using ChatGPT. I can show you something right away.
08:17I had a color chart created.
08:20Mandy fed the bot with her photos and the two occasions.
08:24For a festive occasion, he suggests a colorful mix for her.
08:28With many shades of pink, but also yellow, orange, green or purple.
08:33There are a few trendy colors included. I wouldn't have chosen yellow.
08:37I quite like the other colors.
08:40In terms of business, ChatGPT remains classically understated.
08:44Grey is of course business, black.
08:48He suggested a blouse in powder pink.
08:51Ever owned it?
08:53No.
08:54No.
08:55OK.
08:56In the Perplexity app, Mandy then receives a specific recommendation for her look.
09:01She opts for the short, fitted dress for the party.
09:05Based on age, dimensions and a price range of around 100 euros, direct links to product suggestions are provided.
09:13Have you decided on a dress yet?
09:15I chose a dress. I liked it very much.
09:18He also suggested some shoes to me, of course.
09:21He wanted me to like wearing pumps or sandals.
09:24But since I'm actually very sporty, I would have preferred sneakers.
09:28But that worked very well too. He suggested suitable ones to me.
09:31Sneakers with a dress? That works, right?
09:33Yes, absolutely.
09:34Which color did you choose?
09:36So I was very brave. We picked out a beautiful pink.
09:41Mandy has already virtually tried on her festive outfit using the FITZ app.
09:46However, she's not entirely convinced by its AI-generated look. Will the real dress score more points?
09:56Oh, a summer outfit.
09:58Yes, beautiful. Great color. It definitely suits her very well. And especially with the sneakers.
10:05I think that's a pretty good combination. Nice. Are you feeling comfortable?
10:09I feel very good. Yes. Turn around.
10:13The fabric looks beautiful. Yes, absolutely.
10:16The AI-powered bargain hunt also works. Currently, the best deal for both products is €45.99 for the dress from a large retailer and around €60 for the sneakers from an online outlet.
10:29Okay, outfit 1 has already passed the professional's review. You also chose a second outfit, a business outfit. Was that also a dress?
10:38No, it wasn't a dress.
10:40The artificial intelligence, however, sees Mandy in a blazer and trousers.
10:44That was a direct combination. And because I wanted to save money and see if these shoes might also go with it, I also asked the AI, "Does this match?"
10:56AI said it was a good fit. So I already have the shoes with me. And now I'm curious to see if this one blows me away like the first outfit did.
11:05Here too, the AI found a bargain and tracked down Mandy's outfit with a discount for around 114 instead of 140 euros.
11:13Ah yes, that's the business outfit.
11:19Your career can begin.
11:21Nice. I really like the grey. It's such a good mix between business and a bit sporty. Which is pretty much how you are. So I think it's great, yes.
11:31How do you feel?
11:32I feel great.
11:33Would you say that artificial intelligence has performed well as a colleague?
11:38Yes, I would say it did really well. I think the outfits are good and appropriate.
11:44Do you think this can really replace a fitting?
11:48What bothers me a little is the lack of a personal touch. Sure, AI and the big online shops can all operate in parallel. We live in this era. But I hope that we small retailers still get some chance, because these are places where people meet, where customers tell us their stories, and I hope that doesn't disappear.
12:09AI doesn't just provide advice when shopping online. It's also used in a cunning way to lure me with personalized advertising and offers.
12:21Discount retailers like Temu, Shein and others collect huge amounts of data in their apps about trends, purchasing behavior, social media interactions, and use AI models to suggest not only suitable products.
12:33They produce quickly, so they always have the right product in stock and therefore keep the customer hooked.
12:40And AI also makes it easier for fraudsters to pretend to offer shops and goods that don't even exist.
12:46So-called fake shops usually look deceptively real, but only want my money without delivering.
12:53And these fraudulent activities are becoming increasingly easier with AI. According to a recent Schufa survey, one in eight Germans has already fallen victim.
13:01Like hiking guide Manfred Schulter from Bergisch Gladbach. He and his wife want to go on holiday in their camper van this summer and take their e-bikes with them.
13:10He needs a new bicycle rack. He finds a suitable model online.
13:15And then we came across the supposed bicycle dealer in northern Germany who was a good 100 euros cheaper than the rest of the world.
13:26Manfred Schulter is a critical online shopper. But the site looks professional and reputable.
13:32There's a VAT number, contact details, and a legal notice. He even checks the address in Street View.
13:38The pictures show a proper bike shop with a shop sign and a backyard. And then my concerns were dispelled and I placed an order.
13:48The fake is only exposed when his porter fails to arrive and the mountain guide inquires.
13:54Because the bike shop really exists. Only the website was fake.
13:58Then I searched the internet for the correct phone number.
14:02And then I quickly got a very friendly lady on the phone who explained to me that they had about 200 cases, that they were constantly being called, and that I had fallen victim to a scam.
14:16Despite filing a police report, he has no hope of seeing his money again. But AI doesn't just help scammers build fake shops; it can also help protect against them.
14:25Consumer protection agencies have a fake shop finder. So I can easily find out if my online shop is actually reputable.
14:34And this tool also uses artificial intelligence.
14:37For example, if I take a website that is currently selling really stylish kitchen items at sensational prices, I can enter that into the fake shop finder.
14:48Simply copy and paste the address here and check the shop URL. If the address is processed and within seconds I'm notified that this address shows signs of a fake shop, it will be displayed.
15:011A clear red.
15:04The AI compares the website with web patterns of reputable sites, checks whether the shop has an imprint, the VAT number is correct, the bank details are reputable, how long it has been online, and other criteria that consumer protection agencies do not disclose.
15:18I should be especially careful if an offer looks too good to be true online. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
15:30My conclusion? I always have to be careful how I shop online. Because artificial intelligence is constantly improving, unfortunately, fake products are also becoming easier to find. On the other hand?
15:41The AI can help me save a euro or two while shopping, and its tips have proven useful.
15:49But how good are their investment advice tips? That's what's so exciting about our stock market experiment. We're halfway through.
15:56Who will be ahead after a month? Lara, a traditional investor, or Fabian with artificial intelligence?
16:04So, here's my mid-term report. Up by about 25 percent and six out of nine trades were winning.
16:12And Lara's first risky trade with the weight-loss injection was also a success.
16:17I could have made even more profit with Novo Nordics. I didn't manage it.
16:22Because, yes, you think, maybe there's still a little more you can do, and then unfortunately I was too greedy.
16:26So far, my portfolio is performing rather poorly. I've made a return of about two euros, and that's not enough for me.
16:33That's why I just spoke with the AI again and we're going to make some changes to my portfolio.
16:38Risk-averse AI is only slowly gaining ground.
16:41But we're only halfway through our experiment. A lot can still happen.
16:47AI has already proven its worth as a shopping advisor. But can it also help me avoid an expense altogether?
16:54Namely, when something breaks?
16:56Repair instead of buying new. Most people have probably tried this before using a YouTube tutorial.
17:02You have a problem: you turn on your hard drive, but it doesn't turn red and therefore doesn't get hot.
17:08Can AI make this even better? How can I try it out with real repair professionals at Germany's oldest repair café in Düsseldorf?
17:16Everything that breaks in the household ends up in her hands.
17:21For most large electrical appliances, repair is economically worthwhile.
17:25This is according to a recent study by the German Federal Environment Agency. This applies depending on the original purchase price and usage, but also to, for example, older vacuum cleaners.
17:33I also brought a vacuum cleaner with me today. It still works, but it's incredibly loud. So something's definitely wrong with it.
17:43Marco von Hagen is an IT specialist and repair expert at the café. He, too, is increasingly using AI as an assistant.
17:52What are you doing right now?
17:54The floor lamp is broken. We were wondering where we could get one.
18:00ChatGPT then guided me through the entire process of controlled repair, and in the end it turned out that it wasn't broken at all.
18:12Could you have completed the repair without artificial intelligence?
18:15Probably not at that speed.
18:17With Marco, I want to try out whether I could do it with AI just like the professional.
18:22I brought the broken vacuum cleaner with me.
18:24Let's ask ChatGPT.
18:27Markus, here's your first tip: Tell the AI that you're a layperson. That way it won't be too complicated. And then ask it to analyze the loud noise.
18:40Suggestion? Clean the filter. Okay, this vacuum cleaner really needs it.
18:46This is a filter.
18:48Unfortunately, that doesn't stop the crying. Next idea?
18:52Engine bearings. If the engine whines very high and shrilly at idle, it's usually a bearing failure.
18:59Well, that's where my skills would be limited. Bearing damage.
19:04Marco asks the AI to assess whether a replacement part is worthwhile for our model and whether one even exists.
19:10He says the engine block costs between 40 and 60 euros.
19:17But could I really manage the replacement? With the help of AI instructions, a video, and a professional, I venture inside the vacuum cleaner.
19:26But when it comes to soldering, I back out. The AI has one last idea for me: a larger replacement part for 140 euros.
19:35The complete unit would then include the batteries.
19:42Okay, then it won't cost 50, where I only get the engine, but 141.
19:48Correctly.
19:49So, artificial intelligence has been very helpful in our analysis. How much I want to save is now up to me.
19:5550 euros for a new engine block. But I still need a professional like Marco to help me.
20:00Or 140 for a whole unit. But in the end, it's still cheaper than buying a completely new vacuum cleaner for around 180 euros.
20:09Incidentally, the Fraunhofer Institute is currently researching an AI image recognition system that assesses when it makes sense to repair electrical appliances and when it does not.
20:19There's definitely more potential here in the future.
20:22With old electrical appliances, the question is also how much electricity they consume and whether I might save money by buying a new one.
20:30But what if I didn't have to pay anything for electricity at all?
20:34For Sven Rotenpieler from Gütersloh, this is already a reality today.
20:39This is because his house not only consumes electricity, but also produces it, stores it, and trades it thanks to AI.
20:47I want to see for myself how and if this works.
20:51The father of the family is being visited today by Bastian Girul from Octopus Energy.
20:57Hi!
20:58The electricity provider promises that the family will not pay a cent for electricity and heat for their household consumption for at least six years.
21:06This is your house, after all. Zero euros for energy. That sounds too good to be true. What does a homeowner have to do to achieve that?
21:15When we built the house five years ago, we didn't have a photovoltaic or solar thermal system on the roof. We retrofitted it a year later.
21:21We can go outside sometime, I can show you.
21:23That's the first requirement. Requirement two: a heat pump. This way, heating can also be done with electricity.
21:32Yes, how much did you spend on everything, really on this entire system?
21:36All in all, I invested 40,000 euros in the heat pump, but also in the PV system including storage.
21:42The electricity storage system is the heart of the zero-energy cost house.
21:47If we ever have a lot of energy, we can store it there. Then we can also sell it on the market.
21:52The energy market functions like a stock exchange. The electricity price changes every 15 minutes.
21:58When electricity demand is high, the price rises. Octopus Energy then sells electricity from Sven Rothenpiler's storage facility at a high price.
22:06If there is more electricity due to low consumer demand or high wind and sun levels, it becomes cheaper.
22:13Then the energy provider refills the storage.
22:17And that's how we manage to optimize down to zero euros.
22:21And that's highly complex. And artificial intelligence definitely plays a role there.
22:25Yes, absolutely. We're talking about millions of data points that need to be optimized.
22:30Of all the devices in the house. And it's so complex, a human would be completely lost.
22:35We would need an entire team of experts to optimize just one house for our client.
22:39However, the AI can do this across hundreds of houses simultaneously.
22:42Okay. The house decides. That means, Mr. Rothenpilers, you're not stressed about it at all, are you?
22:45No, not at all. It works perfectly. I have proof of that, so to speak.
22:51Namely, the last invoice or the last two invoices. That's zero euros.
22:57For electricity and heating. The supplier brought the principle from Great Britain.
23:03Entire housing developments are now interconnected there. The goal is to soon connect not only new buildings, but also older ones.
23:10Do you believe that this could theoretically become an issue for tenants at some point?
23:16In particular, we see that energy storage systems are becoming drastically cheaper year after year.
23:20And I am firmly convinced that in the next two or three years we will see this in the first rental houses or apartments.
23:26We will see storage facilities that will then have similarly exciting products.
23:30A grand plan. The Zero Builds Home is the first such concept in Germany.
23:36Several providers are following suit with increasingly similar offers.
23:41I'm curious to see if AI will soon be dynamically trading our electricity on the power exchange everywhere.
23:48However, I'm even more curious to see how artificial intelligence performs when it comes to investing.
23:54Investor Lara and Fabian, with his AI consulting service, have ten days left to turn their €1,000 starting capital into money.
24:03A lot has changed for me. One of the ETFs suggested by the AI has even exceeded its target price.
24:10and has now been liquidated and reinvested by me to the tune of approximately 60 percent.
24:15And now I'll just let it run and see what happens.
24:21Lara's risky investments are significantly more worthwhile.
24:24Currently, my portfolio is up about 60 percent, and I'd like to let it continue like that.
24:32The only downside is that our investors have to pay taxes on the profits.
24:37And that means work, gathering papers and documents, filling out tables.
24:41It would be a dream if AI could simply do the entire tax return.
24:46I want to find out from him what the AI can already do here and what I can look forward to in the future.
24:52Fabian Walter, also known as Steuerfabi. The business administration graduate with a master's degree in taxation explains things to one million followers.
24:58On YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. All the things you can copy and bill.
25:03They are not only influencers as tax experts, but have also helped build one of the largest AI tax databases in Germany.
25:10With specialist literature, with court rulings. But for professionals. Does that mean my tax advisor might already be working with artificial intelligence?
25:17It's quite possible that your tax advisor is already working with artificial intelligence.
25:22But of course there is also a scaled-down version for normal private use, the so-called tax GPT.
25:29The bot competently answers all questions about tax returns in the chat, providing tips and tricks.
25:35Asking questions is one thing, but how can I actually do a lot of my tax management with AI right now?
25:42Here, the influencer recommends apps like Steuer-Bot, which guide me through a questionnaire to the completed tax return.
25:49For many, it's much easier than the official portal elster.de. You could say that the commercial apps are unfortunately ahead of the government in this regard. With them, it's still a bit more complicated.
26:00Anyone who also needs to submit receipts for tax purposes can have them scanned and categorized using an app.
26:06And then, at the end, I can have this receipt automatically processed. So there's also an artificial intelligence behind it that reads the receipt.
26:16The tax authorities have also discovered AI. Four tax offices in North Rhine-Westphalia have been using AI since May 2025 to process tax returns more quickly.
26:28They are even further ahead in Kassel.
26:31In Hesse, the process involved completing the tax returns for the first few thousand people.
26:39Bavaria has now announced its intention to follow suit and then roll it out nationwide.
26:44And then the moment finally arrives. Two months after the start of our 1,000-euro experiment, I'm meeting with investor Lara and AI investor Fabian, this time at the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange.
26:57I'm so excited! We're back at the stock exchange. Was it stressful for you? Did you have fun?
27:03Well, it was stressful for me, but also fun. I don't know how it is for you.
27:06For me it was relatively relaxed, occasionally stressful, but otherwise really okay.
27:10We had exactly two months and €1,000 in starting capital. I'm really curious to see how much you were able to get out of it. Shall we take a look?
27:19Very gladly.
27:20Okay, let's take a look. These are your winnings.
27:24Around 400 euros, or a 40 percent profit, goes to investor Lara. Around 60 euros, or a 6 percent profit, goes to the AI.
27:34Oh, okay. Lara, hats off to you. That's definitely a difference. So, 400 euros versus 60 euros.
27:41Bad, but at least 6 percent in such a short time. What do you think of that stark difference?
27:48I think 6 percent is good for two months, and AI is really risk-averse. A really good result.
27:55Well, I expected something like that.
27:5740 percent, 6 percent? Are you satisfied?
27:59Yes, actually. I took significantly more risks than Fabian, and I have to be satisfied with that. And I am, yes.
28:07Based on your experience, since you've traded before, would you now say that AI-powered advice is something for beginners, for people who say, "Oh, I want to invest some money too?"
28:16Yes, because if you don't give the AI really good instructions, then nothing good will come of it.
28:23So you really have to know what you're telling the AI. Then you can get good results, as we've seen.
28:28But I would still say that it's a good option for beginners to get started.
28:35Would you say, okay, humans are still better?
28:38Well, at the moment yes, but that can change very quickly of course, because at the moment humans are responsible for what they feed the AI and what they specify, exactly.
28:46But for information gathering, AI is of course top-notch and I would recommend it to everyone; I believe every trader probably uses it.
28:54Do you think that if we combined the two of you – AI consulting and human expertise – we would reach 46 percent? It's possible.
29:01Could be.
29:02My takeaway today? AI can make money on the stock market, but it won't make me rich quickly.
29:11Artificial intelligence has so much potential in all areas of life. And if AI can now also monetize my electricity, then perhaps there will soon be no more energy costs.
29:22But entrusting her with my insurance contracts, my taxes, or even my assets still requires a considerable amount of trust and preferably a scrutinizing look.
29:32Where AI really shines is in saving money. It has proven itself not only as a quite capable handyman, but also as a shopping advisor and bargain hunter.
29:41With her, I saved money and a lot of time.
29:48I haven't just focused on artificial intelligence.
29:55I didn't comment on artificial intelligence.
