00:00While the Swiss make two major adjustments after their draw at Wembley, Mark Hottinger of Everton returns after suspension to the defence where Sebastian Generec keeps his place for his third cap and the skipper Alan Geiger, 111 caps, drops to the subs bench and in attack, Stefan Chapuisat, who came on so effectively as a substitute at Wembley, starts the game tonight. Christophe Convin drops out.
00:23A surprise in the Dutch side is the dropping of Edgar Davids in that position just ahead of the defence. Aaron Winter comes into the side and Peter Hoekstra replaces Gaston Taument down the flank. The Dutch are still seeking effective firepower but at the other end of the field they are certain to feel more secure with return of their captain Danny Blint after suspension.
00:48And our referee tonight is from Bulgaria, Atanas Uzunov.
00:53So the Dutch kick-off in the orange shorts and white shirts. Something fairly close actually to the colour clash there. The Swiss was plenty of white on their red shirts.
01:08Oh, and an early blunder there by Edwin van der Saar. It came off his foot and, well I suppose it could have gone into goal as it is, it's gone behind for the corner.
01:20Touch of nerves, Saint?
01:22Well, I think it's a nervous situation. It's a game that I think both of them, you know, are looking to try and win this round because they don't want to go into the last game needing a victory.
01:32So, very important that they get a winner out of this game tonight.
01:36They both started with draws of course, as Ian says. Both know that a win now is a real mighty step for them into the quarter-finals.
01:44It's Sforza, their free-kick specialist with this corner now for Switzerland.
01:50That's a very bad one indeed. Goal kick to Holland.
01:54Swiss, of course, uplifted by their draw at Wembley.
01:58Goal kick to Martin George, the coach of Switzerland, Portuguese.
02:02Glint to Bogart. They've dropped Seedorf, number four, who played well forward against Scotland.
02:22He's taking a position at the centre of the defence tonight alongside Glint.
02:27It's the great thing about the Dutch. So many players seem to be able to play in so many different positions without a real problem.
02:33And, well, the Swiss conceded a corner there. An absolute rasping ball by Witzker.
02:40I thought Witzker was outstanding against Scotland by an excellent game. He's a real quality player, number 14.
02:52So, Herkstra, a six-footer, is on the goal line. Bergkamp in there too.
02:58Aaron Winter, also in the box. And big Winston Bogart up from the back as well.
03:05It's Holland now. Take this corner, float it in. Used his fists. Comes to Jordi Cruyff.
03:12But the Swiss break down the field at some pace, as we know they can do.
03:17And that's a lovely ball now for Chaprysat.
03:21From Turquil Mares. No fouls at the referee. Chaprysat stays down.
03:26And that was a wonderful break by the Swiss. It's Sforza. Chaprysat still down.
03:32And he kicks the ball in a touch so that...
03:36Well, I think they squandered a terrific chance there.
03:39I'm convinced he never really got fouled in. I thought the tackle was fine.
03:43Yeah, the players got a little touch on it, didn't they? Just a little flick on the ball.
03:47And he's gone down there pretending he's dead.
03:49But really, had he tried to stay in his feet, Brian.
03:51They were in a great situation. They had men over.
03:54And it was a fantastic ball by Turquil Mares, wasn't it? That opened up the whole thing.
04:03Vitska.
04:05Lovely control.
04:06Yeah, that's beautiful.
04:08And a lovely ball there for Cruyff.
04:11But also, good defending again by Switzerland, and particularly this number three, Kontor.
04:16Now, that's about half a dozen times already in the game.
04:20Vitska has played the ball beyond defenders.
04:23He's just lovin' all over the head into space. That was a beautiful ball, wasn't it?
04:29And again, the defenders done well.
04:33Again, it's Vitska with the corner.
04:38Oh, a different one this time, and it doesn't begin to work for them.
04:40Though Sforster very nearly gives them the chance.
04:44Brassie trying to hold off Seedorf.
04:47And Seedorf gets the yellow card.
04:53Well, he's one of the Dutch not carrying one already.
05:01Four of them are, so...
05:03With this spate of yellow cards,
05:05Goodness knows what's going to happen when we come around the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and even the final.
05:11And you deserve to get a card clear.
05:13Yeah, that was...
05:14That was stupid.
05:19Take a pass.
05:21And a flash between here and Seedorf.
05:24And a free kick given to the Swiss.
05:27Well, and when the Swiss finds out that
05:29demanding of the referee that he's sent off for this,
05:31but he...
05:32He's certainly quolled them.
05:3320 years of bonus.
05:34I don't know about that.
05:35Oh, yeah.
05:36Tough one must go up to the ball.
05:37He might just be a little fortunate to stay on,
05:38but the referee's not taking any action.
05:40It's...
05:41Worrying times for the Dutch,
05:42and particularly for Ferenc Seedorf.
05:52Feld in.
05:54And...
05:55Pandasar using his fist.
05:56I thought he would.
05:58And Fergal getting in with a header.
05:59And a good one, too.
06:00And there's Fergal again.
06:03And in the end, it's Seedorf
06:05who started the panic,
06:06who gets it away
06:07up towards Bergkamp.
06:09And now Freikstad.
06:10Freikstad!
06:11Now the charge is on.
06:15Why didn't...
06:16Why didn't he go, Brian?
06:17You know, it was one against one
06:18and finally had a yard on the defender.
06:20Why didn't he go with the ball?
06:21And he had Bergkamp coming out quickly as well.
06:23This is...
06:24much more promising.
06:25De Boer.
06:26And now...
06:27Jordi Cruyff.
06:28Okay.
06:29I'm sure the coach at half-time will be saying to it,
06:40so you know why...
06:41When you get in that position,
06:42you've got to go out of it.
06:43I don't know why he stopped and came by.
06:45Schwarzer.
06:46Challenge there with Winter.
06:47Reisiker.
06:48Lidt.
06:49De Boer.
06:50Bogart.
06:51Wiczke.
06:52Seven Ajax players on the side, if you include Wiczke, who's joining them next season.
07:05That's better.
07:06This is Bergkamp.
07:07Just get it back.
07:08Winter almost in there, and Pascolo died bravely at his feet.
07:10But Bergkamp nearly opened it up there and did everything right, and Winter was on it like a flash.
07:18It was a real tussle here for Bergkamp against Vega.
07:19Just clipped it back enough.
07:20In comes Winter.
07:21But down goes the keeper.
07:22It was a good piece of keeping.
07:23Wiczke takes it up again.
07:24And then tries to get Bogart forward.
07:25He loves getting forward Bogart.
07:26And from Bergkamp in there, he's got it.
07:27No.
07:28No.
07:29No.
07:30No.
07:31No.
07:32No.

07:46No.
07:47No.
07:48No.
07:49No.
07:50No.
07:51No.
07:52No.
07:53No.
07:54goes into the side netting and behind well Borgard used to be a winger yes
07:59from his youth base and uh did well get into the by lane here
08:05there come who's beginning to do one or two things beginning to notice him now and again
08:10well grassy getting there first they're in a bit of confusion at the moment
08:26of the dutch in defense and there's a free kick and that's a dangerous position now
08:30the foul by danny blint on marco glassy and this is the heaven-sent opportunity now for schwarzer
08:40well danny blint was saying you know he got the ball but he never got the ball there
08:44did he that was that was a definite foul
08:50defected over
08:54why he needed to touch why they need to touch i don't know because all that does was
08:58encouraging us to make the the early run of the ball here and the closing space down
09:03and that's one of the players also you know why don't they just go up and hit it as it sits
09:10and then he's going up to get that one away big peter hoikstra this side of the field being
09:18hustled by a chuck we sacks and a yellow card surely not surely not
09:24but what's close in that one i mean there's another one that has stepped up which we've seen plenty of
09:42half-time whistle
09:43and a half-time in this important group game here at philip park it's holland nil switzerland nil
09:56it's been a six three for this swiss and a five nil and the dutch have counted with a six two and a five nil
10:12we're a long way from that at the moment
10:31we've not even had that in throw-ins no we haven't we certainly haven't had that in goal chances
10:36as swatzer takes possession middle back heel releasing vergel
10:49he does look a player well he's played really well there up to canton and then to grassy
10:54still grassy always a chance here and it was wasted there by mark hottinger
11:08well that's the chance of the game without a doubt beautiful play great build-up
11:14look at the grassy great skill here took across the front of the defenders and then slipped a little
11:19ball into him and hot to go right in front of goal gets underneath the the ball just bobbled slightly
11:24just left it in in short but no real excuse man he's got to carry it up
11:29vitska now for holland a scare for them maybe that will
11:34get them moving a little more effectively ronald de boer
11:40berkamp chasing this one dennis berkamp
11:43well it's happening at both ends of the field now
11:52berkamp's really upset at himself because uh i'm sure he felt that was a great chance
11:56that he would certainly knock that one in on the half ollie yeah
12:01better
12:08vitska
12:11winter
12:14again to vitska now alan winter good stride but schwarzer
12:18kept place for him he won it back again finds wextra there are people waiting in the middle
12:24including point oh somehow miraculously put off the line by henchross
12:33that was a miraculous clearance off that line and it looked as though holland must go ahead
12:38and there he is with a much more conventional head up
12:41boi gets it in there again and this time schwarzer with the clearance
12:45it's quite tricky for you going good spell this for holland
12:55vitska here's blimp will he try a long range shot danny blint shot charged back
13:01and that was an easy one for pastola
13:05good pressure by the dutch and bell what good defending that was by henshaw off the line number
13:11croif there with the header kept it down and he's facing his own goal keepers beaten
13:15and he hooked it away i mean that was terrific
13:24vitska berkamp chasing again deborah has made the run for him corner
13:41in there deep one the fisted away croif who will look to try and get it back in there again
13:58one mill holland their first goal in this tournament
14:03and the son of the old maestro johann is the man who does it
14:11great relief for the dutch i thought the goalkeeper was coming too far there but look at it comes
14:16all the way i've just got a scratch at it fell to croy
14:22come inside hit it on his left the goalkeeper had gone back but i don't think he quite got his
14:25position right and it beats the way near course look you come out there really got just a little
14:31edge at it a little touch at it his first goal for holland and it couldn't have come at a better time
14:41it's going to be a corner
14:46it's going to be a corner
14:55it's going to be a corner
14:59the swiss still believe they're in this game certainly it's it was a blow that goal but i think
15:15i get the feeling they've regrouping as you're saying saint and uh there is a lot of spirit in
15:19this side there's some big men up for this corner now needs to be well delivered
15:27and the fist of van der zah
15:31and hwakes refers to it that was a good clearance and i did well there hottinger now being chased by
15:37berkamp and berkamp's away and now there's a chance again for holland maybe this really will settle it
15:43and the keeper did well really exciting break there
15:51but all begun by hwakes to refusing to allow the ball to go out of play
15:55banging it forward and leaving berkamp to do the rest
15:58check reset
16:05you
