00:00This happened when I was a young child, maybe like 8 years old.
00:15My parents had me late.
00:17My two older siblings are both at least 10 years older than me.
00:21I was woken up in the middle of the night to a commotion from downstairs one night.
00:25It was my parents.
00:26I cracked my door open and heard my parents freaking out about something.
00:31I wasn't sure what it was.
00:33I went to the stairway and stood at the top, calling down, Mom?
00:36Dad?
00:37My mom came to the bottom of the stairs and said to me, go back to bed.
00:42I listened without asking any questions.
00:44I could tell they were stressed about something though.
00:47I was trying to go back to sleep when I heard the front door downstairs slam shut and then
00:52it was dead silence.
00:54I presumed they left the house, but I wasn't sure why.
00:58Either way, I listened to my mom and went back to sleep.
01:02I woke up again to sounds downstairs once more.
01:05It was the sound of the front door closing and then footsteps, but no talking.
01:11Naturally I assumed they were back home and just being quiet so that they wouldn't wake
01:15me up.
01:16I heard occasional steps and thuds from downstairs.
01:19I heard drawers and cabinets being opened and closed, and I thought for sure I heard the
01:23fridge opening too.
01:25I thought it was my older brother Chris who is 10 years older than me, and at the time
01:29he was already driving so he was going out and coming home late.
01:33So him getting home at like 2am and rummaging the fridge wasn't abnormal at all.
01:38These are all things I was telling myself, logical explanations as to what I was hearing.
01:42Eventually, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, getting louder and closer, until they reached
01:48the top and then made their way first thing to my door.
01:51My door quietly and slowly opened.
01:54I didn't sit up or move, I just had my eyes open facing the door as I was still laying down.
02:00There weren't any lights on outside of my room, whoever was walking around was doing
02:04so in the dark.
02:06So all I saw was this black mass at my doorway, resembling the shape of someone's head.
02:11I said every name starting from Chris, to mom, to dad, then I just said who's there.
02:17They didn't reply, they just closed the door and I was left there confused but mildly creeped
02:22out.
02:23I heard footsteps going downstairs.
02:25I was convinced it was my dad now just coming to check on me after getting home, though I
02:30wasn't sure why he was ignoring me.
02:32I didn't hear anything from downstairs for a while now.
02:35I allowed curiosity to get the better of me and I went downstairs in the dark.
02:40I kept all the lights off as I was approaching the kitchen and I froze at the doorway, noticing
02:45a tall figure standing right in the middle of the kitchen.
02:49I said, Dad?
02:51Assuming it was him just based off the size of this person.
02:54A deep voice said, go back upstairs.
02:57I ran back up the stairs to my room and closed the door and jumped under the covers.
03:02All I was thinking was, why did my dad's voice sound like that?
03:06The reality of a stranger being in the house didn't dawn on my innocent little mind.
03:11Not until a little later, when I heard the front door opening and a commotion from downstairs
03:15again.
03:16The voices of my parents.
03:18I went to the top of the stairway again and they were shocked to see I was still awake.
03:22I asked what happened.
03:25They told me that Chris had a little accident but that he was going to be fine.
03:29I found out months later that he had gotten into a car accident driving in a condition
03:32that he shouldn't have been driving in.
03:35My parents got a call from the hospital and so they rushed to see him first thing, leaving
03:39me to sleep.
03:41I asked my dad if he had come in my room before and that was when I learned that they
03:45had been gone for hours.
03:47My mom started freaking out yelling at my dad because he had neglected to lock the door
03:51when they rushed out of the house.
03:53Me telling my parents about the person at my bedroom door and in the kitchen caused my
03:56dad to search the house with his gun and my mom to call the police.
04:01The last thing I really remember was being asked by a police officer to give my story.
04:05My parents tell me that they felt like morons having to explain to the cops that they left
04:09me alone and left the door unlocked.
04:12I don't think anything of value was stolen, even though whoever broke into the house clearly
04:16didn't have intentions of harming me.
04:18Having a complete stranger in your house is already a terrifying ordeal.
04:22Now imagine going through that at 8 years old.
04:35It was around 2013 to 2014.
04:38My brother was about 7 or 8 at the time and we had just moved into a new house to be closer
04:42to school and for cheaper rent.
04:44It was a pretty nice house all things considered.
04:47It even had a cozy fireplace for the winter.
04:50Anyway my brother was really into Batman and had this Batman car that if a button was pressed
04:55made noises and lit up.
04:57It was basically his favorite toy so he played with it often.
05:00Then one afternoon he came inside from playing out back and told us he found something so obviously
05:05my mom and I asked what it was.
05:08It was a picture of a young boy in the form of one of those tags you get if your parents
05:12paid extra for school photos.
05:14The picture was dirty and full of wear and tear even to the point you couldn't see the
05:18year it was taken.
05:20We thought that ok some parent lost their kid's picture no big deal and then my brother said
05:24something that confused me.
05:26That's Buddy he said and I looked at him with a facial expression that basically asked him
05:31to repeat himself and he did.
05:33He pointed at the picture and said this is Buddy he's my friend.
05:37I slowly nodded my head as if I knew who he was talking about.
05:42The main reason this confused me is because my brother didn't make friends easily and
05:45he had no friends that I knew of.
05:48And this Buddy only came up once we had moved.
05:51I shrugged it off and figured he'd made friends with the next door neighbors or something and
05:55he somehow got the school picture as like a keepsake.
05:59That night around 3am when everyone in the house was asleep I woke up to my brother talking.
06:04So naturally annoyed I walked into his room to tell him to go to bed or else he'd wake
06:08up our parents.
06:10It was weird because when I walked into his room he was sitting up straight in his bed
06:14as if he was actually talking to someone and not just to himself or his toys.
06:19I told him to go to bed and I went to bed myself.
06:22A couple days later my mom was talking to me about my brother and asked if I'd seen him
06:27get up at night and I said no I woke up to him talking a few nights ago but that was it
06:31why?
06:32And she said he had been acting weird but as usual we both shrugged it off as him being
06:37a kid.
06:38Now in my room my bed was right across from my door meaning if I turned over I could see
06:43into the hallway right in front of me.
06:45One night I woke up to use the bathroom and since I myself was and still am very afraid
06:50of the dark I left the hallway light on knowing my dad would turn it off once he got up and
06:55I'd probably be asleep by then.
06:57I was laying in my bed facing my door when a sudden noise made me jump.
07:01It was my brother's damn batman car who was making noises.
07:06So I got up to tell my brother that he shouldn't be up this late playing but when I got into
07:10his room he was asleep in his bed with the toy across the room on the floor still making
07:14noise.
07:16I walked over to it to turn it off.
07:19I was finally able to go back to sleep but the following days my brother would not shut
07:23up about Buddy.
07:24It was honestly starting to freak me out so I went over to the neighbors houses to the
07:29right and left of us.
07:31One house didn't even have kids and the other was vacant.
07:35This started to worry me but my dad said it was probably just an imaginary friend he came
07:40up with.
07:41I went along with it since I couldn't think of any other solution.
07:45But almost every night one of us my mom, dad or sister would say we heard my brother's
07:50toy making noise and had to go into the room and turn it off.
07:54I explained that I had to do it as well and once again brought up my brother talking to
07:58someone one night.
08:00My dad swore up and down that the toy was probably motion activated but when we bought it there
08:05was no advertisement for motion activation.
08:08My sister and I were so unnerved by it that we started to sleep in my room together which
08:12I'm glad we did or else I'd probably write this off as a bad dream.
08:16My sister and I were talking trying to keep each other calm and in good spirits until we
08:20heard the dreaded noise of my brother's toy.
08:23We both looked toward my open door and into my brother's room which was right across mine
08:28into his room.
08:29Our expressions turned into those of horror as we saw our brother's toy rolling past the
08:34door all on its own.
08:36We screamed and ran to our parents room and they got mad at our brother saying it was a cruel
08:40joke to play on us.
08:43As we were already freaked out what he said sent chills down my spine.
08:47It wasn't me, Buddy wanted to play.
08:51That night the toy went into the trash, batteries taken out and all.
08:55My sister and I were relieved until the next day my brother had the toy again and my parents
09:00accused him of getting it out of the trash to which he responded Buddy got it for me.
09:04The toy was broken into small pieces and thrown away for the final time.
09:08My brother was obviously upset but our parents got him a new batman figurine and everything
09:12was fine.
09:13It wasn't until about a week later when we all felt that everything was ok now and that
09:18Buddy was gone.
09:20My mom was cooking chicken breasts on the countertop George Foreman grill and she had come into
09:24the living room to ask us something and then we all jumped as we heard it crash in the kitchen.
09:30We went in there to see the George Foreman grill halfway across the kitchen as if it had
09:34been thrown.
09:35My mom swore it was nowhere near the edge and my dad had no explanations.
09:41Nothing happened afterwards and we moved out about a year later but to this day I wonder
09:46if my brother's imaginary friend Buddy wasn't imaginary.
09:59When I was just 10 we moved to a new house in a different town.
10:02I was entering a new elementary school as a 5th grader which is always tough.
10:07Starting out it was a bit awkward as all the kids already knew each other as I was just
10:11some random kid entering the scene.
10:14In my elementary school you were made to sit with the kids from your class during lunch
10:18and I remember it being really awkward the first few days at school.
10:22Kids are extremely judgmental around that age.
10:25And I was judged as the new kid so it made making new friends more difficult.
10:30But those initial days of being the new kid on the block I actually met a few of the kids
10:34on the block.
10:35One of the kids was Dan who went to a private school so we went to different schools.
10:40We met while I was biking down the street and he asked if I had just moved into the house
10:44on the corner.
10:45We started hanging out from there.
10:48Then a few days later I met Alex.
10:51Alex actually rang the bell one day and asked my parents for me.
10:55I was confused when my parents called me to the door and introduced me to him.
11:00He said he lived down the block and wanted to know if I like video games.
11:04Of course I said yes and he invited me over to his house to play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
11:09I didn't have that game but I really wanted it so I said yes.
11:14We walked to his house which was literally the corner house at the opposite end of the block.
11:19Right away I felt like the house looked less nice than every other house on the block.
11:24It was the same size as most but it just looked run down and not taken care of.
11:29There was no grass, the front yard was just two big patches of dirt with a walkway cutting
11:33through them to the front door.
11:35We entered the house and it was equally disheveled inside.
11:38It was like a house of hoarders, boxes and junk everywhere in every room.
11:43He led us to the basement which smelled like 15 cats lived down there.
11:48Weirdly enough there didn't seem to be any pets.
11:51The basement was a pigsty, it may have been the messiest room in the house.
11:56We sat on this brown leather couch placed right in front of the TV.
12:00He had a Gamecube and PS2.
12:02He booted up San Andreas and we played the two player mode and it was actually fun and
12:07in that moment I thought I was going to like Alex and would want to be friends with him.
12:12Eventually I wanted to go home and so I said I gotta go.
12:15He seemed really disappointed like he wanted to keep hanging out.
12:18We'd already been playing for like two hours though so I just wanted to go home.
12:23He followed me halfway home until I said see you later, basically saying in a friendly
12:28way, alright go away now.
12:30That was the first warning sign that Alex was a wacko but I didn't find it concerning
12:34just yet.
12:36The next day Alex rang the doorbell again and asked my parents if I could come play.
12:41Last time we played Gamecube in my room for about an hour.
12:45Not to sound mean or judgmental but I was starting to not really like him just because
12:49I felt like he was weird and he made me uncomfortable with how physically close he got to me.
12:54The next day after school he rang the bell again.
12:58I wasn't really in the mood and told my mom to tell him I don't feel good so he left.
13:03I would rather hang out with Dan honestly because I just liked him more.
13:07That same day I rode my bike up to Dan's house to see if he could hang out.
13:11He was down so we started riding our bikes further up the block.
13:15And this was a mistake because as we passed Alex's house he came outside onto his front
13:20stoop as if he were waiting by the window.
13:23It was weird but it was also awkward because I just had my mom tell him that I was sick before.
13:29As we passed I told Dan that I hung out with that kid and that I felt like he was slightly
13:33weird.
13:34Dan was shocked that I hung out with him saying that whole family is crazy.
13:38I found out from Dan that Alex was actually a couple years older than me.
13:42He was 12.
13:43From this point I decided to steer clear of him.
13:47The next weekend Alex came to our door again asking for me.
13:51I told my mom before this already to tell him I'm not home if he came back.
13:55So she did that.
13:57But late that night I woke up to my window completely open and a cool breeze blowing into
14:02the room.
14:03It was a chilly September night so I most definitely left the window closed originally.
14:08Waking up to an unexpected breeze made me question who could have done that.
14:13Then I felt something poke my foot and I screamed.
14:16I looked at the foot of my bed and saw Alex.
14:19He told me to be quiet it's just him.
14:22Before I could even ask what he was doing in my room he explained that his parents were
14:26fighting and he wanted to sleep with me.
14:28He climbed through my window.
14:31I was in shock.
14:32I told him to get out.
14:34He pleaded with me to let him sleep in bed with me.
14:37Again I told him to get out.
14:39Watching him turn and climb out of my window was a disturbing scene.
14:43I closed the window and locked it and then went straight to my parents to wake them up
14:48and tell them.
14:49They couldn't believe it.
14:51The next day my parents both went down the block to talk to Alex's parents and when they
14:55came back they said it didn't go well.
14:58Alex's crazy mom screamed and laughed in my parents faces taking no accountability for
15:03her son's actions.
15:04I'm sure my parents didn't want to get police involved because Alex was just a kid.
15:09But however many nights later I woke up to knocks at my window.
15:14I had my blinds closed but I knew for a fact it was Alex.
15:18I didn't answer.
15:20The knocks went on and on for like 5 minutes.
15:24I even heard an attempt at opening the window.
15:27I was actually scared.
15:28I remember my heart racing.
15:30Eventually of course the knocks stopped.
15:33I went to tell my parents and they told me to just ignore it.
15:37I think they weren't as threatened because like I said before Alex was just a kid.
15:41It was probably a few days later when Dan and I along with another kid I made friends
15:46with from school were biking from my house down the block and when we passed Alex's
15:51house I saw him run to the window as we passed.
15:54And he just watched.
15:56I told my friends about what happened and they found it hilarious and fucked up.
16:00My other friend made a comment about how he sounds like someone who would
16:03live in a gross house like that.
16:06That night for the final time I woke up to a sound in my room.
16:10It was the sound of my window being shattered.
16:12I screamed like a girl as I saw Alex climbing through the window through the closed blinds.
16:18I ran to my parents room and woke them up.
16:22By this point Alex was already back outside.
16:24My dad went outside and chased him all the way back to his house with Alex making it back
16:29inside his house before my dad could catch up to him.
16:31My dad pounded on the door until Alex's parents opened up and my dad must have said something
16:37right because he somehow managed to convince Alex's parents to pay for the window if he
16:41didn't involve the police.
16:42They ended up paying whatever it cost to fix the window and I never heard from Alex again.
16:48Though I did see him once or twice in front of his house the next couple years while in
16:51the car passing his house.
16:54That family eventually ended up moving somewhere else thankfully.
16:57I think there's a chance Alex was looking to do something crazy like murder me or at the
17:01very least attack me just because he saw me hanging with other kids when I didn't want
17:06to be his friend.
17:07I mean what else would he do after shattering my window with something and climbing inside.
17:12I'm scared to wonder what kind of person Alex grew up to be.
