Heather Croall wants to end her time as boss of the Adelaide Fringe with a bang, by setting another box office record. The search is set to begin worldwide for her replacement, but some in SA's art community believe her replacement should come from local ranks.
00:00It's program launch day, and for Heather Kroll, the dawning realisation that one hell of a ride is nearly over.
00:09I just thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. You've made it amazing.
00:17In her decade in charge, the fringe has boomed, both in the program's size and ticket sales.
00:23The last few years we have sold a million tickets, so we're really hoping we smash that again.
00:29Not that she'll be around to sit, finishing up just before the fringe starts in February to take charge at Carrick Hill.
00:37I think she's set a very high bar for whoever steps in, but I think she's really brought it to a very, very, very big festival.
00:45The top job should be on the market next week, and is expected to attract worldwide interest.
00:50There is the potential that someone from somewhere far and wide will understand the fringe as well,
00:56but quite likely that an excellent candidate exists right here.
01:01But for now, next year's fringe will still be heavily influenced by the outgoing director.
01:06She'll be missed, but let's make it a big run.
01:08The fringe will see the reopening of Tandanya as a venue, alongside the traditional hubs including the garden and gluttony, with 1,500 shows on offer.
