AMAZING LION PLAYFIGHTS AND WATER REFLECTIONS WITH PIX AND VID By Shuk Yee Tsang A pride of lions is seen playfighting and enjoying a drink leading to an amazing image reflecting in the water. Peter Haygarth, 62, a freelance photographer and videographer from Durham, UK, captured this moment at the Zimanga Private Game Reserve in South Africa. He shared that seeing the lions playing in the open dry riverbed was a rare opportunity, as they are usually resting among thick bushes. The playfighting is normal behaviour for young lions, helping them develop skills they will need for hunting as adults. Peter has been photographing animals since his late teens and has travelled extensively across Africa, visiting countries including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. His long-standing passion for wildlife has led him to document countless intimate animal moments in the wild. Peter said: “It was so special to see the lions playing in the dry riverbed as it was a very open area allowing for good visibility. “The playfighting you see is completely normal for young lions, it’s how they practice the skills they will need later in life. “On this morning we had been looking for the lions since sunrise, and once we found them in such a great location, we stayed for several hours. "Sometimes it’s nice to put the camera down and just watch and appreciate what you are witnessing. “The lions don’t have names, but every interaction is fascinating to observe. “This is one of many videos I have taken in the wild, and it’s always great to hear positive comments from viewers."
