00:00If you were on social media Tuesday, you may have noticed that Barbie's longtime boyfriend,
00:04Ken, got a major makeover, and now he only eats organic, loves cold brew coffee,
00:09and has a man bun. But hipster isn't Ken's only new look. Mattel announced on Tuesday
00:13the expansion of its Barbie Fashionista line with 15 new Ken dolls in three body types,
00:19slim, broad, and original, aka slightly buff. The new doll comes in seven skin tones,
00:24eight hair colors, a variety of eye colors, and nine hairstyles, including that man bun.
00:29But sadly, it's plastic and can't be styled like his bae's mane.
00:32Barbie's boo also got a fashion facelift. The Hollywood Reporter's style and beauty destination
00:37Preda Reporter's own Stephanie Chan reviewed Ken's hot new transformations,
00:42so let's take a look at some of her notable style picks.
00:44The 15 new Ken dolls sport a variety of looks, including a red plaid shirt with slim black pants,
00:51a collared white shirt with a skinny black tie and gray trousers, and a bro-y millennial pink
00:56California tank with white shorts and slip-on van-style sneakers. Chan writes,
01:01The makeovers are long overdue, though it's interesting that Ken is completely devoid of facial hair
01:06and tattoos, both of which are major men's trends. Also, the fashion looks suggest Ken hangs out
01:11in a pretty lax workplace. Or he's just your average 20-something in 2017 who works at a start-up,
01:16or still lives at home. I'm a 20-something, I can say that.
01:19The expansion is part of Mattel's effort to be more racially diverse, reflecting demographic trends.
01:24In 2016, Ken's other half Barbie was introduced in three new body types, curvy, tall and petite,
01:30seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles.
01:34According to Barbie History, K&B met on the set of a TV commercial in 1961 and have been inseparable ever since.
01:41The Ken Fashionista line is now available for $9.99 each at Barbie.com.
01:45So how do you feel about Ken's makeover? Sound off in the comments.
01:49I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter News. Do we know if any of these guys come in not plastic?
