The fifth National Indigenous Art Triennial will open at the National Gallery of Australia this weekend. Featuring 10 immersive projects the exhibition brings together a diverse mix of contemporary First Nations artists from across Australia.

00:00From ancient art practices to modern media, the National Indigenous Art Triennial is celebrating
00:10the many faces of contemporary First Nations creativity.
00:14After the reign is built up of 10 projects, but there's about 68 artists included when
00:19you look at those bigger collectives.
00:21The centrepiece, the Namajira Room, honouring the legacy of pioneering painter Albert Namajira.
00:28His 1930s home in Central Australia has been recreated from stained glass, alongside work
00:35by his acclaimed great-grandson, Vincent.
00:38It's like me standing at home with my family, with the paintings, with the works.
00:44It's like standing on country, bringing the country to the big smoke.
00:48The show also spotlights rising stars.
00:51Dylan Mooney's illustrations showcase love and resilience in the face of adversity.
00:56I hope they feel a sense of pride and joy and this is a celebration as well of people
01:03who are queer and Indigenous.
01:05Thea Anamara Perkins has drawn inspiration from her own family photos.
01:10Refuting the misrepresentation and misinformation that I saw growing up about First Nations families.
01:17The exhibition is linked by the themes of rebirth and renewal, born in the aftermath of the failed
01:24Voice to Parliament referendum.
01:26But very much based on planting new seeds.
01:30After its time on display in Canberra, the exhibition will tour nationally for three years,
01:35giving more Australians a taste of the rich diversity of contemporary First Nations art.
01:41The triennial opens tomorrow.
