00:01Former President Donald Trump is the first president to have ever been impeached twice.
00:06The second impeachment came exactly one week after violent riots broke out at the U.S.
00:11Capitol building on January 6, 2021, as Congress was certifying the 2020 election results.
00:18Trump was charged with incitement of insurrection after the numerous remarks he made regarding
00:23his opposition to the election results seemed to fuel the mob attack, according to The New
00:27York Times. The House, controlled by Democrats, passed and delivered the article of impeachment
00:33to the Senate on January 25, 2021, per CNN. Despite gaining more vocal support for impeachment
00:40from Americans now than during Trump's first impeachment, the Senate is likely not going
00:45to find him guilty on the charges associated with the Capitol Hill uprising, per The New
00:50York Times. Furthermore, Senate Republicans attempted to get the given impeachment charge
00:55thrown out by having it deemed unconstitutional. Many Americans, including celebrities, have
01:01taken to the internet to air out their grievances about the potential trial.
01:05One woman who stands out on the controversial side of American history, former White House
01:10intern Monica Lewinsky, also decided to chime in on the discussion. Following reports that
01:15the Senate likely will not gain enough votes to convict former President Donald Trump for
01:20incitement of insurrection, Monica Lewinsky took to Twitter to show her dissatisfaction.
01:25Accusing Republicans of being hypocritical, she slammed,
01:28My new idea. All of the senators need to take lie detector tests that they would vote the
01:33same on impeachment if it were a Democrat that incited the Capitol insurrection. I know, tricky
01:39for the psychopaths among them.
01:41Many followers agreed with her sentiment. One user said,
01:45Acknowledgement of their bias in order to trigger a dishonest lie response would involve
01:49a level of self-awareness that they simply lack. Another person replied that they would
01:54love to see that happen. On the other hand, some followers urged Lewinsky to forget about
01:59Trump and focus on positive, uplifting topics moving forward. Another argued that Democrats
02:05should be given the same sort of test to see if they would vote against a Democratic president
02:09during an impeachment trial. If Trump is found guilty of the charges, he would lose a list
02:14of benefits that former U.S. presidents are guaranteed via the 1958 Former Presidents Act,
02:20such as his pension, health insurance, a travel allowance, and more.
02:25Trump will also face a separate vote to determine whether or not he can run for federal office
02:29again in the future.
02:31Monica Lewinsky's tweet regarding Donald Trump's potential trial by the Senate is not the first
02:36time she has commented about her disapproval of the Trump administration. In September 2020,
02:41she tweeted,
02:42"'Just realized I am more scared of our government now than I was in 1998, and that's saying
02:47a lot. A lot.'"
02:50In 1998, Lewinsky found herself thrust into the spotlight of a political scandal after she
02:55and President Bill Clinton were accused of having an affair. Clinton eventually admitted
03:00to the affair.
03:01The House of Representatives impeached Clinton with perjury and obstruction of justice charges,
03:06but the Senate acquitted him. The Independent hypothesized that Lewinsky's September tweet may
03:11have been rooted in her disappointment with Trump's decision to replace late Supreme Court Justice
03:16Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a more conservative justice immediately following her death. Lewinsky
03:21had previously tweeted about the situation, saying she would love to know what the other
03:25Supreme Court justices would have done with Ginsburg's dying wish, which was to not be
03:30replaced until a new president is installed. And if their actions would change if the president
03:35in office was of a different political party, Trump is seemingly unbothered by the rallying
03:40for his impeachment. Since leaving the Oval Office, he has been spotted playing golf at
03:44his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, as reported by Newsweek. He also created the Office of the
03:50Former President, which will be responsible for managing President Trump's correspondence, public
03:55statements, appearances, and official activities to advance the interests of the United States,
04:01and to carry on the agenda of the Trump administration, per CBS News.
