U.S. celebrity chef, writer and TV host Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in a hotel room in France. He was 61.

00:00Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in a hotel room in France at 61 years old.
00:04CNN Bourdain's employer reported that the celebrity chef, writer and TV host took his own life.
00:09The news of his passing was confirmed early Friday by CNN.
00:13It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague Anthony Bourdain.
00:18His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world
00:23made him a unique storyteller. His talents never cease to amaze us and we will miss him very much.
00:28Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.
00:33Bourdain was in Strasbourg, France working on an episode for the 11th season of his award-winning CNN
00:38original series Parts Unknown, which he's hosted for five years.
00:41According to CNN, his close friend and chef Eric Repair found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.
00:47The show's production crew was also there.
00:50It's just a horrible, horrible shock on every level because on his show there is a celebration of life
00:55and all different cultures, said CNN host of New Day Alison Camerota atop the show's 8am hour.
01:00The idea that he was suffering somehow is really heartbreaking.
01:03Camerota also praised her colleague for being open about his history with drug addiction.
01:07She said,
01:08The idea that he was able to share some of his demons, that he fought drug addiction and that he fought heroin, everyone really appreciates.
01:16Because to know that someone went through it and came out the other side is really helpful.
01:20Obviously, I think all of us wish that we had known whatever was happening in the past days.
01:25Alongside best-selling books, Bourdain hosted the Food Network's A Cook's Tour
01:29and the Emmy-winning Anthony Bourdain No Reservations for the Travel Channel before moving to CNN.
01:34Bourdain was in a relationship with Italian actress and filmmaker Asia Argento, whom he met on Parts Unknown.
01:40Argento was one of the women who came forward with their stories of alleged abuse at the hands of Harvey Weinstein.
01:45Bourdain said he was proud to know Argento and that she had done the hardest thing in the world.
01:50Bourdain wrote in a June 2 column for The Hollywood Reporter about the most intensely satisfying experience of his professional life,
01:56which was working on Parts Unknown's Hong Kong episode that was directed by Argento.
02:01The news of Bourdain's passing comes just days after 55-year-old fashion designer Kate Spade took her own life.
02:06The CDC recently released a report that suicide rates are up by 30 percent across the nation since 1999.
02:13Many of Bourdain's peers and fans took to social media on early Friday morning to mourn the loss of the beloved TV host.
02:19Rose McGowan posted a tearful video urging anyone considering suicide to seek help.
02:24And she wrote,
02:25Anthony, I am so mad at you. You are so loved. The world is not better without you.
02:29I have a message for those considering suicide as a solution to a temporary problem.
02:33Please call a hotline. Please reach out. RC needed you, Anthony. We needed you. Please come back.
02:40NBC's Megyn Kelly wrote,
02:42Incredibly sad news about Anthony Bourdain. Sending so much love to his family, including his CNN family who must be hurting terribly today.

02:59And Bourdain's CNN colleague Poppy Harlow remembered her friend with a tweet saying,
