01:16Are you warm with that?
01:18It's being made as comfortable as possible
01:19With members of the public helping out
01:21Coming together
01:22We're just doing what we can with what we've got
01:24There it is
01:26Contact, contact
01:28Failing to stop
01:29The dangers are huge
01:31To protect lives
01:33Stay off the road
01:34In case he's still driving round
01:36It's
01:37Topping speeds of around 170
01:39You've been live streaming?
01:40Yeah
01:41And take dangerous drivers
01:43Why would you do something so stupid as that?
01:46They're clearly racing
01:48Side by side
01:49Off the roads
01:50The driver drinks about seven pints
01:54It's horrendous
01:55We've woken up this morning to quite severe weather
02:16Standing water
02:18Hard rain
02:19Lots of spray on the main roads
02:22In extreme weather conditions
02:24Oh, it's horrible
02:26PC Stuart Smith is on shift
02:28And the only available traffic officer
02:31In North Derbyshire
02:32There's been countless accidents
02:35We've got cars upside down
02:37All over the place
02:38When the roads are bad
02:41The conditions are treacherous
02:42You need to slow down
02:43It's a good shunt, isn't it?
02:45People tend to drive at regular speeds
02:48And don't take those things into consideration
02:50It puts another strain on the resources
02:53Police emergency
02:55Police emergency
02:56Police emergency
02:57Hello, are you through to the police?
02:58Can't do the estimated town arrival
03:00At the moment
03:01We've got no units to attend
03:02The sergeants are aware
03:04We can't have anyone
03:05Because we are trying
03:06Yeah, I think it is
03:07We're running out of signs
03:08Running out of cones
03:09Running out of options
03:10You have to do what you can
03:12We've had a report of a serious RTC
03:14Carvis motorbike
03:15I believe we do have one casualty
03:16Oscar Tango units
03:17We've got any units that way
03:18But could attend please
03:19Acknowledge on edge
03:20I know everyone's busy
03:21Details when you're ready
03:22Most cycles crashed and it needs some medical assistance
03:24But we've got to find it first
03:26It's supposed to be here
03:27Here we go
03:28Oh, he's never hit the side of that car has he
03:30Tango 33 steaks
03:31Is he alright?
03:44Is he all right?
03:45Is he alright?
03:46Is he alright?
03:48Is he alright?
03:49Is yes
03:50Is he alright?
03:54Archusses score
03:56Is he okay great?
03:58He will check that car
03:59completely
04:00Is he alright? Is he? What's he like?
04:02He's centre, upper back.
04:04This lady's a nurse.
04:07He's got some central back pain, so they're moving.
04:10It was laid like this when I got here.
04:13You alright, fella?
04:15You alright?
04:17Can you hear, Rez?
04:19I'm PC Smith from Rhodes Police.
04:21Did they turn in front of you?
04:23Yeah.
04:25We're a bit stuck in terms of services at the minute.
04:29We'll see what we can do to get some help for you.
04:31Alright.
04:32Alright.
04:34One of the motorbikes involved in a collision where a vehicle's turned across its path.
04:40More often than not, it can be quite a serious injury.
04:45State six at this RTC.
04:47Stuart updates control.
04:49He's got back pain.
04:51We've got a nurse who was off duty just passing.
04:54He's made a quick assessment on him.
04:56It sounds as though he may have a back injury of some description.
04:59There is some significant damage to the motorcycle.
05:02So he could well have landed on his head and his back.
05:05We do need some medical assistance.
05:08Yeah, we're stopping a lot.
05:10Negative.
05:11No ETM, I'm afraid, at this stage.
05:13Alright, okay.
05:14Is that through lack of resources or it's just falling down a list or something?
05:18At this stage I've got no units to attend.
05:21There's no update regarding ambulance.
05:24Do you want to?
05:25No time soon.
05:26Nothing allocated.
05:27There isn't anyone left.
05:30Hello.
05:31Hello.
05:32I'm a consultant for Nathan's first.
05:33Hi.
05:34Hi.
05:35It's good to see people working together.
05:38Where members of the community come forward and without them, we wouldn't be able to achieve
05:45the things we do.
05:46Are you able to move everything?
05:48Yes.
05:49Okay.
05:50The chap's cautious from breathing.
05:53He's been made as comfortable as possible with members of the public helping out with
05:56him, rather than keeping him dry, talking to him.
05:59There's only a matter of time before his condition is going to worsen.
06:03It's getting colder.
06:05It's darker.
06:06We need to get him up off the ground.
06:08But, of course, with a potential spinal injury, we don't really want to just kind of
06:13get him up moving around and cause further injuries.
06:16Hello.
06:17I understand you are the driver.
06:19All right.
06:20You okay?
06:21I know it's upsetting, but he's breathing.
06:25He's not bleeding anywhere.
06:27All right.
06:28The driver didn't see the motorcyclist as she was turning.
06:33It's not always a neglectful act.
06:36Mistakes happen, especially in bad weather.
06:39It can simply be the inexperience of driving in severe weather conditions.
06:44If you don't drive in torrential rainfall often, you're more likely to make mistakes.
06:49The rider has been lying on the road for an hour now, so Stuart calls control.
06:55I'm just going to chase him up again.
06:57What's the latest update on ambulance?
06:59I'm trying.
07:01I'm asking for an ambulance and I'm receiving the same message over and over again.
07:05Saying we've got no unit.
07:07There's no one.
07:08There's not even fire service.
07:09Or police.
07:10There's only me.
07:11Freak weather conditions, isn't it?
07:12It just brings everything to a halt.
07:13Stu?
07:14Yeah, too far.
07:15Brakes from the overtop.
07:16We're just thinking out of the box, doing what we can with what we've got.
07:18Keep him as dry and as warm as possible.
07:20Well, it's difficult.
07:21He's on the wet ground.
07:22The rain's still coming down.
07:23We've got a river running down the road.
07:24Just doing what we can so we can get some sort of emergency services to help him out.
07:26You guys doing the cracking job with your brothers, huh?
07:44It's great to see the community come together and work like this.
07:47It's brilliant.
07:48But after almost two hours, there's still no ambulances available.
07:53is available he's wet is shivering enough times past we need to get this guy off the road
08:00probably going to need to come over to um yeah we'll do that one there's an ambulance station
08:11just around the corner from here i'm going to see if i can pinch the spinal balls
08:17i mean we're two hours and 15 minutes into this now where this chap's been laying on the ground
08:23the road's like a river the guy's getting wet he's getting cold we need to get him up
08:37have you got a spinal board i can have
08:41i've got a motorbike crash on chatsworth road the bloke's been laying on ground for like
08:45two hours uh with spinal injury and he's uh no they're still saying no resources
08:51we need a spinal board and achieved one better
08:57there's luck with that bit there was a crew that's just become available
09:08so if we can move the bike yeah what we'll do is we'll go roll them onto a spinal board we'll
09:13secure everything um right we'll get yeah collar board yeah and and bed
09:22make sure we have to wait ambulance so they can get the stretcher through
09:25that's it we'll get you to just hold head roll him onto the board i think so right hold his head okay
09:36okay we're rolling up i'm calling yeah after three one two nice and steady nice and steady
09:44you just keep your arms tucked in nice and tight for me lovely thank you ready steady
10:04steady lifts. Right, we've put straps on. Right, excellent. Thank you very much for
10:15everyone for helping with that, a bit of an unusual situation. Ordinarily it would have
10:22run a lot smoother than that, but everybody stretched thin, so you guys helping has really
10:26helped out. All these members of the community just stopped to help out. They're all wet
10:32through, they're all tired, but they all stuck at it. Without them, it would have been a near
10:36impossible job to try and tackle it, so brilliant. You get a friendliness, I find, in Derbyshire
10:43that you don't get in other places. A lot of the areas are very close-knit communities,
10:47so you get a lot of people, they all know each other. Yeah, everybody kind of works together.
10:53There it is. Coming up. Just failing to stop, making off at speed. A dangerous driver putting
11:04innocent lives at risk. The dangers are huge. It's lost, lost. Hello, have you seen a silver
11:12car driving around really fast? And a local resident unwilling to cooperate.
11:18Not my car. You're very defensive, you don't even know what I'm going to ask. I've got no
11:23answers for you.
11:37He's just spotting the right car, and making the effort to try and find it, rather than just
11:42going, well, that went a bit fast, and then ignoring it and not doing anything.
11:48Traffic cop Stuart Smith is on patrol in North Derbyshire, an area he's policed for 15 years.
11:54Derbyshire Boring Bread, from a farming community, up in the Derbyshire Dales. I've always lived
12:00that way. A lot of the areas are very close-knit communities, so you get a lot of people, they
12:07all know each other's business. All right, let's just come past us. That'd be a good
12:13car to check. There we go.
12:21A VW Golf has driven past, and the driver looked at me. I just thought we ought to check
12:26it. It's kind of accelerated and gone around the roundabout rather quickly, but it's been
12:32out of sight almost straight away. The core part of my role on roads policing is to try
12:38and keep people safe using the roads, and to try and eliminate the risks. Part of that
12:43is to try and remove people that shouldn't be on the roads from the roads, so dangerous
12:47drivers, uninsured drivers, drink drivers, those that put people's lives at risk.
12:55Doing some checks, the only insured on it is provisional licence holder, and there's intel
13:01to suggest that the driver has not got a licence anyway. So it looks like it's up to no good.
13:10There it is.
13:16NA Tango 3-3. Contact, contact with that. VW Golf. Failing to stop. Making off at speed.
13:31Advanced driver, super management train. It's the middle of the day, and we're in an estate
13:38where there's going to be people walking around. Your heart does sink and your mind goes a hundred
13:43miles an hour. Is it really worth it? Should I even pursue it? The dangers are huge.
13:50The RA is medium, due to speed. It's a long way ahead. It's low traffic, dry conditions. It's taken a left-left.
14:03Yes, yes, vehicles out at the front. Temporary loss at this time.
14:09He's willing to take every risk, put every life in danger, including his own. For trivial matters, really.
14:14Tickets, at the end of the day. Points on a licence.
14:21I don't know where he went.
14:26Lot's lost.
14:29It's the last sighted on the estate.
14:33It's just far too dangerous to continue at the speed that he was doing. It's just not worth it.
14:46The driver was incredibly reckless, just blowing across junctions without any consideration for anyone.
14:51I couldn't follow at the speed he was travelling. It's just unsafe. So, lost sight of it very quickly.
14:58Unbelievable.
15:00If the driver's anything sensible, now it's been rumbled, it will leave the car somewhere.
15:11Just trying to find it and hopefully we can recover it if we can see it.
15:15Make mine dead.
15:17That's these lads where it went.
15:20You alright lads?
15:22No, do you know where it went?
15:24Did it come past, did it come past you?
15:27No, he went in that corner, yeah.
15:29Alright, okay.
15:30Just be steady. If he's still driving around like a loon, make sure you're not near the street,
15:33because I don't want anybody to get hit. Alright?
15:36Mike, good job.
15:38Good job.
15:40Hello.
15:41Hello.
15:42Hello.
15:43Hello.
15:44Hello.
15:45Have you seen a silver car driving around really fast?
15:46Have you seen a silver car driving around really fast?
15:47Yeah.
15:48Have you seen a silver car driving around really fast?
15:49Yeah.
15:50Was it like a panel?
15:51It's small.
15:52Really, really fast?
15:53Yeah.
15:54Yeah.
15:55It went down there.
15:56Right, okay.
15:57I'll keep looking.
15:58No.
15:59No.
16:00No.
16:01No.
16:02No.
16:03No.
16:04No.
16:05No.
16:06No.
16:07No.
16:08No.
16:09No.
16:10No.
16:11No.
16:12No.
16:13No.
16:14No.
16:15No.
16:16No.
16:17No.
16:18No.
16:19No.
16:21No, I would even like,
16:24talk to my guy.
16:25No, I would love to you.
16:26But I would love to you.
16:27It went like that.
16:28Right, okay.
16:29I'll keep looking.
16:30Just be careful of the road,
16:31make sure you stay off the road,
16:32just in case he's still driving around.
16:33Yeah.
16:34Okay.
16:36Bye.
16:37Cheers.
16:38Kids, they know everything, don't they?
16:44I don't think that driver has even thought,
16:45kills someone if he doesn't die himself it's it's not worth it found it
16:57i'm with this golf could you arrange recovery please 165 no license no insurance
17:02yes of course i'm going to speak with details without keys
17:07it's uh locked and secure as well yep 24th
17:09look at the state of it i don't think this door works i mean that front tire there's hardly any
17:20tread left on it you want to be driving around in wet conditions like he has been doing and
17:24especially at the speed it doesn't look road worthy at all i mean it's got a pink blanket
17:30in there it's got a child seat in the rear seat there was no suggestion that there were any
17:34children in it at the time when we've had the incident with it but at some point whoever's
17:39driving this round was clearly carrying children which is already thankfully we won't have any
17:47more pursuits with it now um it's likely that it was driven by somebody who hasn't got a license
17:51isn't insured uh so we're going to seize the vehicle and the 165 the road traffic act
17:58removes the risk from the road stops him from driving it and protects lives
18:04the registered keeper for the address just so just yards away from where we found the
18:09vehicle so i'm going to go and knock on see if anyone answers i'm not expecting anyone to
18:14um but if he does we can ask why his car has been driven in in such a way
18:26hello sorry she's bothered you you've got a vehicle that's insured to this address a vw golf a silver one
18:33i can't i don't know how to start a car it's not my car that's not why i asked
18:37no i'm just saying no okay it's not my car you're very defensive you don't even know what i'm going
18:41to ask i'm not being defensive you are no no i'm not okay so is that true is there a car as you said
18:50insured to you i don't know you've just told me so so okay a bizarre conversation so the driver of the
18:58vehicle that involved has fled from the vehicle um is it your car no why is it insured to you
19:11you're not sure why the car is insured to you okay so what's going to happen
19:15is we're going to send some documentation out to you and uh the registered keeper don't know driver
19:22okay unfortunately it's your responsibility as one of the people that involved in that vehicle to
19:28name the driver well i've not insured the vehicle i wouldn't even know how to insure a vehicle all
19:33right i've got no answers for you okay fair enough the paperwork will be sent to you all right so i'll
19:43leave you to it i mean that was a bizarre start to the conversation i simply asked her
19:49sort of the inferred of it about a vehicle that i was interested in she immediately gave answers
19:56very defensive trying to deny all knowledge from the start
20:04so now the investigation begins it's a case of sending out the documents to get them to identify
20:09the driver and with a bit of luck we might be able to identify who who it was i'd like to think that she
20:17she'd be horrified at the thought that these lives were put in danger from this driver's actions
20:24and she could be the person to help stop it yeah it's particularly dangerous the time of day the
20:30condition of the car the fact that the roads is wet reaching speeds of 70 miles an hour plus is
20:37incredibly dangerous because that's how you get killed it's just the minority of people that
20:44literally just don't care about anybody they're just the dangers of society putting lives at risk
20:54coming up why would you do something as stupid as that a suspected speeder caught on camera
21:01he's not only dangerous but he's live recording it i'm just gonna look around okay are you gonna move
21:08please and crowd control that's your first warning for section five as a traffic cop runs a routine
21:15stop check swear again i will lock you up
21:33and they take a fuzzy give me a code too please call 14608
21:37traffic cop jack pressland is on patrol near derby police in my local area is important to me i live
21:46here it's my hometown my streets it's my area any units derby area observations please for reports of
21:55a vehicle apparently live streaming on social media currently doing over 100 miles an hour possibly in
22:01the area of the a52 i've got no vrm but it's a red high performance vehicle
22:13one of our other officers have seen on a live stream
22:16it's razzing up and down the a52 topping speeds of around 170 so expecting a quick car
22:24but it's just trying to find it it only takes him to lose concentration driving at them sort of
22:29speeds to kill somebody kill himself members of public walking on the street it's just so dangerous
22:36with illegal car meets and anti-social driving a growing problem
22:43i don't know whoever's doing with anti-lag and backfire all right but if people want to be funny
22:48right i'll start issuing tickets for things like number plates all right the police are clamping down
22:53that's uh any derby units please there in the area it has been checked and it has been confirmed
23:00that they are still live streaming at this time so before obviously you just confirm which direction
23:05it was please traffic cop andy swift is also on the lookout for the suspected boy racer
23:10oh what's that there any else i'm going for so you do is a moving vehicle check please
23:19by pure chance i happen to be pretty much around the corner from where it is
23:25so swift is behind it we think it's now seattle leon it's registered local he's uh now cancelled the
23:31live feed i believe it's driving normally now which is usually the case still well aware of our presence
23:40of the vehicle for me you've got a mobile phone in this car at all yeah yeah you've been live
23:55streaming yeah i thought you might have been so at this time mate you're under arrest for dangerous
23:59driving okay so you don't say anything but it may have a defense that makes you a question
24:02something they're trying to quit if you send me good evidence sit in there for me young man
24:07why would you do something as stupid as that god it stops with him
24:12i've got him under arrest mate for dangerous driving at the moment
24:15no worries coming down to you so why would you do something as stupid as that
24:19have you been arrested for them at all no good stuff to that so you got a license everything your car
24:33insured to you got any points right like that three points three points what are you for speeding
24:37oh chat why would you make such a silly mistake as that live stream it just having a look what
24:44intelligence we've got on the vehicle looks like it's already got information to say that it's uh
24:51involved in anti-social behavior we're driving with all vehicles so he's got previous for it definitely not
24:58learned his lesson
25:02see he's got previous for it we've got driving he's got all these points and things and he's got some
25:08intel stuff like that so
25:12he was live streaming on the good old-fashioned tick-tock um so we're just going to do some
25:18checks on that and see if we can see the video and see what we can get on it
25:20if you look inside his car he's got his phone on a central mount uh which will be clearly be from
25:28where he's been doing the live feed he's got it plugged in uh it's a nice quick car but not made
25:37for driving at them speeds on our roads his tyres are all right they're just wearing on outside where
25:43it's been skinny grand round about he's not only dangerous but he's live recording it for everyone
25:51to see and for us to have as evidence that he's had his car remapped that's why it's really 351 horsepower

34:30get your ears tested pal
34:31uh you've just got to try and remain as professional as you can
34:50you just crack on with whatever you've got in front of you and deal with it
34:53coming up there was a family in the car that got his missus and a three-year-old child
35:02after a shocking crash the occupants have made off in another vehicle what's he trying to hide
35:08pc smith's on the trail of three dangerous drink drivers number one and the other two geez that's the
35:16bit i need god that is frightening yeah the black was on the wrong side of the road at least twice
35:22the speed limit and the fact that they're all drunk as well it's unbelievable so it's all piecing together
35:35it's now quarter to eight i'm on my way into chesterfield and hopefully uh we're going to pick
35:41something up pc stewart smith is searching for cctv evidence of a shocking car crash about a week ago
35:50i attended a collision where a car collided with the side of a hgv
36:00the occupants of the vehicle made off in another vehicle
36:03initially you're thinking it's a drink driver he's run off because he's drunk
36:13well then it turned out there was a family in the car they've got his missus and a three-year-old child
36:18which we were surprised at because the car was a real mess
36:24initially when we was at the scene i was extremely concerned
36:26because the impact was so severe that child needed to go to hospital but thankfully got away without
36:34injury the driver that made off at the scene came forward into the station two days later
36:46we disclosed all the information we had at that time and he declined to comment on the scenario
36:52which i found a bit odd what's he trying to hide there's obviously something more that's gone on
36:59there was two other vehicles involved that's what's made me look into it a lot deeper
37:06at the moment i've got the dash cam footage from the lorry
37:12and it is one hell of an impact
37:16just yesterday i managed to get the cctv from the pub along the road leading to the collision
37:21of the car park they'd been drinking all night
37:27and then attempting to leave the car park and making such a hash of it
37:32running into each other as they're trying to exit the car park
37:37that goes to show how much drink they had and how much they weren't aware of their surrounding
37:42all three drivers are under investigation with the main focus on the driver who crashed
37:48the cctv i have already is enough to put him in the car i mean there's no question you can see him
37:54drinking in the pub you can see him getting into the car and leaving in the car and then after the
38:00collision you can see him getting out of the car the driver's seat there's no question that it was
38:04him who was driving stuart needs to establish a timeline to show what happened between leaving the pub
38:10and the crash this is what's called cctv trail and you're basically retracing the steps i know that
38:19there's a pub at the top of this road that's where they were drinking all day before they set off so
38:25i know the exact route they took what time it set off and the point of the collision
38:29this one's got a camera on it investigations like this are long and time consuming
38:41all right yeah brilliant there's a lot of work that goes involved in piecing every little piece
38:46together there you go one two three that's the bit i need you just do everything you can to
38:54investigate the matter that you're looking into build all the evidence you can
38:57look at the cctv for a crash on the roundabout am i able to view it so i'm waiting for three
39:07rockets coming down here oh here we go number one and the other two geez that's the bit i need god
39:14that is frightening yeah you've actually seen it yeah i know the cctv is brilliant it shows the speed
39:21that they were traveling and the fact that the black one's on the wrong side of the road
39:24uh at least twice the speed limit and the fact that they're all drunk as well it's unbelievable
39:30so it's all piecing together
39:33if we know the frame rate of the camera we can work out the speed of the vehicles traveling
39:40back at base stuart is piecing the cctv together into a timeline
39:45all the vehicles arrive on scene the toyota corolla which causes the collision parks at the back of the
39:56car park they've got a child that's there that's playing and a woman who's clearly the mother they
40:06were in the vehicle you can see there's a build up of pint pots on the table
40:14the driver of the toyota he drinks about seven pints before he gets behind the wheel
40:21the land rover ends up reversing directly into the rear of the toyota
40:26it's a significant impact you can see that it really bounces the car
40:31the car then they do a bit more maneuvering and eventually they're robbed to negotiate the way
40:36out of the car park and they continue down the road at speed in a line together
40:46it's astonishing to watch because you can see how quickly they're going
40:51there's just a blur it's that fast and the lead car the corolla is traveling
40:57uh at approximately three times the speed limit in a 30 mile an hour road so it's nearly 90 miles an
41:06hour the land rover and the jaguar are side by side with the jaguar on the wrong side of the road
41:13they're clearly racing side by side all three drivers pretty much out of control at that stage
41:19they're not even braking and i know how close they are to the roundabout
41:22the corolla impacts the side of the lorry with such a force it shakes the cab
41:30then all the occupants are just all piling into these other two cars this land rover and this jag
41:35and they're leaving the scene leaving this lorry driver thinking what what on earth's going on
41:42it's horrendous the the footage to watch is horrendous it's you i mean i've seen collisions
41:48like that where people have died the fact that they were able to walk away from that with minimal
41:54injuries is unbelievable the case is strong enough to charge all three drivers who'll be tried at
42:02court and could face jail time it's it's proper investigation work and it was a real kick out of
42:09being able to tell the whole story especially when the people that are involved in it don't want to give
42:14you the story every year nearly 5 000 dangerous drivers are convicted often as a result of the
42:25police and the public working together our job's there to protect the public make it a nice place
42:32to live in and make them feel safe and want to live in derbyshire i think if we were trying to enforce
42:40a law we've come across resistant but when we're there to help people people step up and they step
42:46forwards and you'd be surprised it's amazing what people can do public's helps massive key information
42:53that they call in intelligence the eyewitnesses without them sometimes we can't get jobs to court
43:00and get prosecution so members of public are definitely a massive help to us
43:05in this episode he could well have landed on his head in his back we do need some medical assistance
43:13the motorbike rider trapped under the car in chesterfield made a full recovery hello i understand
43:19you're the driver you okay the driver will not face any prosecution as the rider agreed to let their
43:25insurance companies settle the matter due to the extreme weather conditions hello so she's by the
43:31you the woman who said she didn't know the driver of the car that stewart smith pursued i've got no
43:37answers for you was eliminated from inquiries fair enough the paperwork we sent to you but so far
43:45the alleged driver has failed to answer a notice of intended prosecution he could be facing a hefty fine
43:51and prison time what's he trying to hide there's obviously something more that's gone on the driver who
43:57crashed after drinking heavily and racing his friends with his child in the car the footage to watch is
44:02horrendous was jailed for 16 months and the fact that they're all drunk as well it's unbelievable the
44:07two other drivers involved received prison sentences of 14 and 12 months he's got previous for it
44:15definitely not learned his lesson the driver caught live streaming at speeds of over a hundred miles an hour
44:22is currently released under investigation whilst the police await the results of forensic tests on his
44:27phone your car's fine your driving license is fine right we'll leave it as that and no action was
44:34taken against the driver stopped by jack pressland in normanton mate you're not even involved with this go
44:51you
45:04you
