00:00It does have warning markers for potential firearms
00:13Police a thousand square miles
00:21It's a crash crash
00:24You've got any other injury other than your head
00:27With some of the UK's most dangerous roads
00:30Oh, no one's been killed out of this
00:32I don't know
00:33Do you know how fast we're going?
00:35It's scary when stuff like this happens
00:36In life and death situations
00:39Get on the ground, you'll be chasing
00:41We've got runners
00:42Face down
00:44Yes, yes, successful state
00:47Around every corner
00:51Great acting, mate
00:53There's a new challenge
00:55For the traffic cops
00:57Step out of the vehicle now
00:59I'm going home
01:01David
01:02Stop grabbing me like that
01:04It's crash, crash, crash
01:08Coming up
01:11Step out of the vehicle
01:13Step out of the vehicle now
01:18Put your hands out
01:19Thieves and burglars caught in the act
01:21Put your other one behind your back
01:23Whatever you say, I'm not moving
01:25So you might as well save your breath
01:26There's a load of diesel drums and tools in the back of the car
01:30As they target more and more victims
01:33Settle your arms down
01:35Stop
01:35Listen
01:36Stop
01:37Stop
01:37Stop
01:39Stop
01:40You can see him there
01:43Yeah
01:43Just look behind the back
01:44Stealing from our businesses
01:46You put your heart and soul into it
01:48And yet these sort of people
01:49Just take the mickey
01:51And intruders invading our homes
01:54Where are we going?
01:56Anywhere?
01:56I want to go out to the beach
01:57Oh
01:58Burglary
02:00We have had a call from the security company
02:13Confirmed intruders still on fire
02:15The suspect vehicle is currently parked around the back of the premises
02:18Two males seen leaving on foot
02:20At 7-9 going to the job at Trampfield
02:24Traffic cop Andy Swift is on his way to an industrial estate near Chesterfield
02:35Is this person still on the phone at all?
02:39They're still watching these people
02:40A security guard is monitoring two suspects on CCTV
02:46Yeah, possibly got some bolt croppers
02:48Says it pulled the fence as it went on an easy
02:51Says the fence panel was off as it made entry
02:55I see him
02:55Yeah, I see him
02:58Industrial estates are like a honeypot for criminals
03:03Millions of pounds worth of stock in them
03:06In Derbyshire we've got three real major roads
03:10All of which have got industrial estates right next to them
03:13And it's just a quick, easy getaway
03:15Amber Valley said they were struggling to cover it
03:18I've seen they've still not got anyone
03:19Everything is validated as yet, see
03:23With no other units nearby
03:29Andy heads to the address
03:31I can't remember the last time I went to a commercial burglary
03:35Where someone was on their own
03:36They're usually at least two
03:37Sometimes three or four
03:38You're always thinking how you're going to deal with them
03:41Because I'm on my own
03:42You're hoping that your colleagues are listening out for you
03:45Any from 47, what vehicle was it I'm looking for?
03:51Yeah, they've just given a black vehicle
03:54That's all I've got
03:55Let's put this VRM receipt
04:04There's two people with it
04:06Hello
04:14Are you alright, hello
04:15Lovely
04:16We've had a report that there's two males that have been trying to break into a property near here
04:20And this is a vehicle that's been passed
04:21Just want to make sure it's not you two, that's all
04:24Alright?
04:24All at 12
04:25Not you at all
04:25So I'll get some details on you when you're merry way, alright?
04:28Is it your car, is it, chap?
04:29It's
04:29Sorry, is it your car?
04:30It's your car, is it?
04:32Have you got any identification at all?
04:39Stay there
04:40Stay there
04:40Can we get units travelling towards me please?
04:55These males lock themselves in the vehicle, I've got the keys
04:57Step out of the vehicle
05:00Step out of the vehicle now
05:06Step out of the vehicle
05:08Step out of the vehicle
05:10Now
05:11Turn to face the vehicle
05:13Turn to face the vehicle
05:15Both of you, round this side fella
05:17Round of you now
05:18Get round of you
05:19I've got one male running
05:21He's er... white
05:22I've got one male detained
05:23One male running
05:24Go into the facility now
05:25He's got a bright blue hoodie on
05:27And he's white male, blue top
05:29Fella, give me your hands now, please
05:30Give me your hands
05:31Turn round and face that vehicle now
05:34Put your hand behind your back
05:35Put your other one behind your back
05:36Put your other one behind your back
05:37Put your other one behind your back
05:40Hey, I can't get them behind me back like that
05:42You're putting them too tight, mate
05:44We'll sort it out in a minute, won't we?
05:47You slack them off?
05:48Not yet
05:49I've got one male detained
05:51Yeah, the male that's running into the unit
05:52He's got black trousers on trainers
05:54He's got a blue top underneath
05:55He's got a hood on
05:56Short hair
05:57I've got this male detained in cuffs
05:59Whatever you say, I'm not moving them
06:01So you might as well save your breath
06:02You're going to have to wait until my colleague arrives, unfortunately
06:04Can you loosen them off?
06:05No
06:06I'm not taking off and putting my safety at risk
06:08With you on your own
06:09Or then having to use more force
06:10I don't want that
06:11And you don't want that
06:12So we're going to stay like we are
06:13Are they? Well, they'll be alright for the moment
06:16They're not alright for the moment
06:17You need a slack on them off
06:18Do I?
06:19Please don't tell me I have to do my job
06:20Someone needs to come and join me here
06:22We're on a way to
06:24He's moving
06:26In a minute, they're going to be here in a minute
06:27We're going to take them off
06:28But at the moment, I can't sort it out
06:29My safety and your safety
06:30Alright, I'm afraid
06:31There's one shout out
06:32It's particularly why you're running away
06:35If you go up there
06:36You'll see a fence open there mate
06:37That's where he's gone into
06:38So
06:41Have you been arrested before?
06:42Yes
06:43Yeah, I thought you might have been
06:44So
06:45Why?
06:46Because obviously
06:47We've had CCTV
06:48So that people in this car are committing crime
06:49That's why
06:50So I'm coming to stand with you back to this
06:51I could have been sat here just fucking doing nothing
06:53I don't think you were
06:54Because we all mate wouldn't have ran off for no reason, would we?
06:55I don't think
06:56I don't know
06:57Right, I see
06:58Have you got a driver's licence?
07:00Driving car?
07:01What's your date of birth?
07:02What's your date of birth?
07:04What's your date of birth?
07:05Why you're so clever
07:06So clever?
07:07You don't need to be clever, do you?
07:08Well, I asked you a simple question
07:09Yeah
07:10Because you started it
07:11When your mate locked the doors
07:13And then you tried to drive off
07:14I watched you
07:15No, I didn't
07:16You leant across and locked it
07:17No, I didn't
07:18But you didn't realise that
07:19Because you tried to start it, I watched you
07:20Didn't
07:21How can I start a car with no keys?
07:22Well, because you were that stupid
07:23You didn't realise that I'd take you
07:24Yeah, you calling me stupid?
07:25Yes
07:26Yeah
07:27I'm not currently out standing for anything
07:29I was recently arrested for driving while this
07:32Well, I'm driving while I was in the show
07:34Okay
07:36You've obviously got an extremely lengthy history
07:39I believe that you might have had a drink
07:41So you're going to be subject to a roadside breath test
07:43Right
07:44So
07:45You're going to be subject to this, alright
07:46Have you ever done one before?
07:47I'm not here, I'm not
07:48Stand here
07:49Here, listen
07:50Stand here
07:51Stand here
07:52Why do you keep putting your hands on me?
07:53Stop walking round
07:54What am I doing, bro?
07:56You're walking round
07:57And you're being detained by me at the moment
07:58Right
07:59Okay
08:00Right
08:01Why are you doing
08:02Why are you being like that?
08:03Sir, for the purpose of this, how old are you?
08:05Well, do you know what?
08:06I'm not doing it
08:07You're not doing it?
08:08No
08:09Okay, alright
08:10So you're now under arrest, okay?
08:11Yeah, yeah, yeah
08:12He's failed to provide a sample of breath at the roadside for analysis
08:15Because he's
08:16Probably had a drink
08:17He smells like he has
08:18There's alcohol in the car
08:19He's got no licence
08:20He's not insured on the vehicle
08:21Not sure if anything's been stolen
08:23Because he's been locked on Suspicion FF
08:24And that was trying to have to take it
08:26If it has been broken into
08:27Or been stolen through that fence
08:28So at the minimum it's criminal damage
08:29A bit more to do yet
08:31But not a bad job
08:32Oh, no
08:33Oh, no
08:34Andy's focus now switches to the runaway suspect
08:37This place has got like 10 foot fences all
08:40It's not like this
08:41And on the back, double
08:42So I'd be very surprised he's got that
08:43If he's got it, yeah
08:44If he has, it's round the back there
08:45Unless it's been the avenue
08:46It's annoying that I can't spit myself in two
08:48And go and catch another person
08:49But I appreciate that's not reasonable
08:50So you just deal with the one that you've got hold of
08:56Snapped a bird
08:57Cheers
08:58He's literally come down this fence line
09:06And got to about the, probably about the third from the end panel
09:11Tools, there
09:14Two tools, crowbar and sledgehammer located in the industrial unit by the palisade fence
09:24Obviously coming to go in here later on
09:27That's why he's left until then to go in round this bit here
09:29These two have come solely with the intention of breaking into this unit
09:34And no other unit
09:35They've still got a sat-nav on their dashboard
09:38Which showed this as the location
09:40They've come with the required equipment, crowbar and sledgehammers
09:44And they drove all the way from Manchester
09:46Knowing that if they've come this far
09:48They're not known to any local police
09:50And they've got access to easy escape routes
09:53A38
09:54It's not far to the M1
09:55And once that's it, they're gone
09:57You don't think he could be on top of one of these units?
10:00Mate
10:02It's quite feasible
10:10Mate
10:11It's feasible that he could have jumped up there mate
10:12Because it's feasible
10:13You could jump on there
10:15Break your neck, Alex
10:18Yeah, it's wet
10:21Yeah, it's wet
10:22Yeah, dog all right mate
10:31You'd be amazed by where someone will hide
10:33You need to do as much searching as you can
10:35Police dogs are much better than we are
10:37We're doing it a lot quicker
10:38The dog unit has done a full search of the area
10:42Fortunately they've not managed to pick up with any trace
10:45Or any scent
10:46So at this time they're still at large
10:52Unfortunately
10:53People are extremely inventive about where they can hide
10:55They've got hours and hours to think about it
10:57And they know full well that the police have only got a finite amount of time
11:02Right
11:12With no sign of the runner
11:14Andy heads back to base to review the CCTV with his sergeant
11:19Scott Riley
11:20Obviously knowing if you can't deal with one of them
11:22Passengers
11:23Going to midnight
11:24Flit anti up the road
11:26I've got him on my body cam
11:28Step out of the vehicle
11:29Step out of the vehicle
11:30Step out of the vehicle
11:31Now
11:32We've got the CCTV from the place from on here
11:34And there he gets out
11:36He comes down here
11:37And then he shows him
11:39Obviously breaking in here
11:40Not even waited for it to go dark have they?
11:44No
11:45Half an hour later it was dark
11:46See he's not even walking sprightly is he?
11:51No
11:52If you'd have had someone else with you
11:54If it had been two of you going to that job you'd have caught
11:56You'd have had both of them
11:57About 100%
11:58It's just
11:59Well what can you do?
12:00You can't can you?
12:01And he walks
12:02He's on third to last panel
12:03He's where he's left those two walls there
12:07So is there somewhere around the back they could get in the building then?
12:09Is there a security door around the back?
12:11You'd need to know the layout
12:12To know where the fire exits are
12:16And then the
12:18Passengers come back
12:19I assume to go
12:20We can go now
12:21It's at that moment
12:22I've just turned up
12:23Yeah it's at that moment
12:24I've just turned up
12:25I've got a report
12:26That there's two mails
12:27In fact breaking through property
12:28In here
12:29This is the name
12:30It's been passed
12:31Just want to make sure
12:32It's not going to be back
12:33You've got a brilliant shot of him haven't you?
12:38There's no way
12:39There's no way that it's a coincidence
12:41How would they know where it is?
12:43I'll bet he's an ex-employee or something
12:48How would they?
12:49It's not even
12:50It's not even labeled up is it?
12:51It's very discreet the
12:53The signage isn't it?
12:54I'd lay good money on that he'd work there at some point
12:58It's too much of a coincidence
13:00Very very good on it
13:04Good good
13:05People who've previously worked for firms
13:10Or still work for firms
13:11Have got inside knowledge
13:12And they use that inside knowledge
13:14To be able to get into places
13:15And get in and out without being disturbed
13:18But ultimately
13:20Investigating officers will get him ID'd
13:22He'll be caught eventually
13:24Commercial crime
13:28People would say is victimless
13:30It's a faithless corporation
13:32That you're taking money off
13:34Whatever they're stealing
13:36Be it tools, clothing, machinery
13:39The cost has passed on to the consumer
13:44So ultimately
13:45We're all paying for it
13:53Coming up
13:54On the floor!
13:55No!
13:56Do not move!
13:57Face down!
13:58Traffic cops arrest a gang of suspected fuel thieves
14:02It stinks of diesel
14:04Stop! Stop! Stop!
14:07You've got some needles on you
14:09Just stand up for us
14:10Stand up for us
14:11Stand up for us
14:12Stand up for us
14:13And a female suspect
14:14Arrested during a crime spree
14:16If I hadn't have intervened
14:18She would have also broken into our house
14:20And then somebody else's
14:21And it would have gone on from there
14:37There's a three-way in progress
14:39There's a three-way in progress
14:40There's a three-way in progress
14:41There's a three-way in progress
14:42There's a three-way in progress
14:43Yeah, two-four
14:45Making his way to the area now
14:47It's a vehicle waiting
14:49And three males
14:50Trying to gain access
14:51Through a fence
14:52It's confirmed by CCTV
14:55That the three males
14:56Have actually gained access
14:57To the site
14:58Yeah
14:59Proceed
15:00Five miles south of Chesterfield
15:04Traffic cop Matt Cork
15:06Is racing to a suspected theft
15:08At a distribution centre
15:10Thieves will target industrial centres
15:13At night
15:14Knowing that
15:15There's often
15:16Nobody present
15:17Safe
15:18Sort of CCTV operators
15:20They might be looking for
15:22Certain machinery
15:24It might be the product
15:25That that factory makes
15:26Might be
15:27Diesel containers
15:28In the back of factories
15:39Matt heads to where the intruders
15:41Were last spotted
15:45As he searches
15:46There's movement in the bushes
15:50Officer we're taking there
15:56On the floor
15:57On the floor
15:58Now
15:59Do not move
16:00Face down
16:01Face down
16:02Face down
16:03Turn round
16:04I'm down
16:05On your belly
16:06Now
16:07On your belly
16:08I'm down
16:09I'm down
16:10Stay sat down
16:11Any sudden movements lads
16:12You're gonna get tasered
16:13You understand that
16:14I've got two detained
16:15Get to me
16:16With Matt on his own
16:18Additional units are called in
16:21We're on route to a burgering
16:23Progress at Claycross
16:24Three males that have jumped over a fence
16:27Corky's got two detained
16:29Traffic cop John Terry is on his way
16:32Where are you Corky?
16:33Straight on
16:34I'm in that compound mate
16:35Where are you?
16:36Can't breathe
16:37Right on your side
16:38Please mate
16:39Stop there
16:40You're near the skips Corky
16:43Corky
16:44Corky
16:48Corky
17:05Corky
17:06Fist line
17:07Bist line
17:22Show me your hands pal
17:24This way
17:25Come here
17:26Yeah I'm
17:27Put it there
17:28Right can you stand up for me
17:29Yeah
17:30Yeah man
17:31Come right my face
17:32Yeah stand up
17:33You got him, Scotty. He stinks of diesel.
17:39These two lads both stink of diesel, absolutely stink of fuel.
17:44It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together
17:46and suspect that these lads have been involved in the theft of diesel
17:50at this industrial estate.
17:52You're also under arrest at 0020.
18:03Suspicion of burglary. You don't have to say anything.
18:06You don't have to say anything.
18:08Before I start, mate, have you got out on you?
18:13No. Yeah, my phone, these things, normal crap they have in your car.
18:17Right, move towards you then so you can stick your stuff on top.
18:19No shot that's going to hurt me, is he?
18:21No.
18:22Come on, let's have a puff on it.
18:24You can see it's an easing, man.
18:26I'm not bothered, mate.
18:29Keep twisting these, mate.
18:31Settle your arms down.
18:32Settle your arms down.
18:33Stop.
18:34Listen.
18:35Stop.
18:36Stop.
18:37Stop.
18:38Stop.
18:39Stop.
18:40Stop, mate.
18:41Calm down.
18:42Stop, mate.
18:43Calm down.
18:44Mate, stop grabbing me like that.
18:45Stop grabbing me like that.
18:46Stop grabbing me like that.
18:47Get off.
18:48Right.
18:49Stop struggling.
18:50Get off my wrist, mate.
18:51Someone just get him off me, I swear now.
18:53Stop struggling.
18:54Are you coming in, mate?
18:55Absolutely.
18:56Get off me there, mate.
18:57Just wait.
18:58Get off me up.
18:59One, two, three.
19:00That's it.
19:01Yeah.
19:02You'll be glad, aren't you, tall?
19:03No.
19:04So on detaining these lads, there's obviously still a fair bit of information missing.
19:08As much as they stink of diesel, we could do with finding the tools they've used, any
19:13vehicles that have been involved in it.
19:15Hey, we've got all the change.
19:16We'll do some checks around here.
19:18Can I have something like that?
19:21Anything that these people think they can make a couple of quid off without having to
19:24put a great deal of effort into themselves, they'll have a way.
19:27After we've apprehended the blokes, we've had some further information that they were
19:40seen to come out of the white Ford Cougar, and it's all on CCTV.
19:46With a sighting of a potential getaway vehicle, John and PC Mark Scott look for the car.
19:52The vehicle lights on, on the road.
20:08Turn your engine off for us, Doc.
20:12What are you doing here?
20:13Just waiting for one of my friends.
20:18No one else's in your car, is there?
20:19No, it's only me.
20:20What are you doing up here, Doc?
20:21Just waiting for my friends.
20:22Where are they?
20:23Up in Wingfield.
20:24Up in Wingfield?
20:25Yeah.
20:26How'd they get in here, then?
20:27Driving, I should.
20:28All right, someone's meeting in the car, are they?
20:30Yeah.
20:32See if there's anything in the boot.
20:37There's a load of diesel drums and tools in the back of the car.
20:40Oh, that was, honestly, I swear on you.
20:42OK, you're under arrest.
20:43Going to quit for theft.
20:45Upon opening the boot, I've located some plastic containers.
20:48Smell very strongly of diesel, some piping and some power tools.
20:52So, she's going equipped effectively and that's what we're assuming the lads are up to as well,
20:56like they're trying to steal some diesel.
20:57As well as fuel siphoning equipment, the boot is full of empty beer bottles.
21:02All right, we're going to breath large as well.
21:05OK, blown's there, I'll tell you when to stop.
21:09Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, stop.
21:11Oh, your son's arrest for driving whilst over the alcohol limit.
21:26Don't have to say anything in mind if that's what you want to question.
21:28Something's going to try and in court.
21:29Anything you do say, maybe even evidence.
21:31The arrest is necessary for a prompt effect of investigation
21:33and to prevent you killing people.
21:35Can you take this one?
21:38I'll follow you down and sort the rest of it out if that's all right.
21:40Right, then please, yep.
21:41She's locked up for going to quit for theft.
21:43Yep.
21:44And drink driving this time by me.
21:51At NA Tango 30, the female driver's under arrest for drink driving
21:54and going to quit for theft.
21:56John Toe from traffic.
22:05How are you all right?
22:06Yeah, not bad are you?
22:07There's three adult males and an adult female coming in for burglary.
22:11OK.
22:12They're not far off landing on your door.
22:15The female I've got is a drink driver as well,
22:19so if I could bring her in first.
22:26What's your surname, please?
22:48And your first name?
22:53Occupation?
22:54Admin.
22:55Admin.
22:57Theft is one of the most common crimes committed by females.
23:03So, a white Ford Cougar has been reported to be involved in a burglar in progress.
23:08In the rear of the vehicle are a number of diesel siphoning equipment.
23:15So, she's been arrested for going equipped.
23:18And she's also provided a positive breath test of 52.
23:26With fuel theft, it's supply and demand.
23:28The prices are high at the minute in the UK.
23:30And if somebody's offering it to you at a bargain of a price,
23:35more people now maybe aren't asking questions that they would have done a few years ago.
23:40Such as, where's this come from?
23:42The charges have been arrested for suspicion of their quarry.
23:54Are you arrested me both?
23:55No, mate.
23:56On those circumstances, I'm afraid the rest has been necessary, okay?
23:59And it is a lawful arrest.
24:00Allegations being made against you and now you'll be interviewed, okay?
24:03Number one.
24:04Number one.
24:06The suspects will now be held in custody for questioning.
24:10Unfortunately, fuel theft can be done quite quietly.
24:13It often goes undetected, meaning that we don't find out about it,
24:17or the lorry drivers don't know about it until they wake up and go to start the truck.
24:21Next part.
24:22It has massive knock-on effects.
24:28It costs the industry millions.
24:30It means that potentially, you know, it's got a cargo full of frozen food, for example.
24:35You know, before you know it, you've got a 44-ton truck full of frozen food that's defrosted and it can't go anywhere.
24:41The black handbag has been taken from one of the burglaries.
24:54Handbags, ma'am.
24:55Coming up.
24:57A prolific burglar on a neighbourhood rampage.
25:01You're making me frustrated!
25:07I'm 30 seconds away, mate.
25:08And traffic cops race to halt a smash-and-grab raid.
25:13They've been through everything and it looks like, look, it's cash.
25:33Every night there is crime happening somewhere.
25:35It's rife, it's absolutely rife at the minute.
25:38And it's about being in the right place at the right time.
25:42In Derby, traffic cop Lee Ridley is six hours into a night shift.
25:48Oscar Foxtrot 72 receiving a night.
25:52I'm being asked if you can assist Amber Valley.
25:54We've had a further call coming stating it may be a break in progress.
25:57Yes, we see.
25:58We're in a white carpet coat, possibly carrying a bag.
26:00That's all gone.
26:01We've been in the area before midnight.
26:02The first burglar came in.
26:03I think a lemon-ish lotion bin in this area for last three hours.
26:04Police believe a female suspect is on a burglary spree.
26:07Allegedly breaking into multiple homes and grabbing money and handbags.
26:13So between 11 o'clock last night and about half an hour ago, we've had three house burglaries reported, all two or three streets apart from each other.
26:26Whilst trying to enter the last property, the suspect has awoken the owners.
26:47We've had what's been described as a white female, either drunk or slurring a word, sort of the influence of something.
26:57Has apologised to the occupants of the addresses they've left.
27:02Interesting.
27:07You're kind of looking at the bigger picture here.
27:09Could it be that person that's targeting a property for kind of the smaller items?
27:15Are the fundings kind of a drug habit?
27:17Is that why they behave in the way that they are?
27:22Likewise, it's Tango 3-9 and State 6.
27:26We're in the rough area now, where the last burglary was.
27:30So you see what we've got.
27:36Possible sighting of the offenders of this burglary.
27:45You've got to get her last.
27:51Yeah.
27:53Yeah, there she is.
27:55As Lee arrives, a woman matching the suspect's details is detained.
28:02It's 86 with her as well, Tango 3-9.
28:04Literally, mate, we've come down here, there's a bloke up the road.
28:11Yeah.
28:12Who's literally said, he's literally said she's just run.
28:15We saw her.
28:16He let me go and he's gone to add to my partner.
28:18That's all, sorry.
28:19Whereabouts is your partner?
28:21I can't say because I'll get him into trouble.
28:23Is he here now?
28:24Is he round here?
28:25Is he round here?
28:26I don't know.
28:27I don't know.
28:28I need that in there.
28:29Fox shot 71.
28:30Why are you putting him?
28:32Just calm yourself down.
28:33Calm yourself down.
28:35You're not being ragged around.
28:37You're the one that's trying to walk off.
28:39You just relax.
28:40Let's go.
28:42How's your bag going over your jacket?
28:43Do you know what handbag's been stolen?
28:46Handbag's my handbag.
28:48Listen, just relax.
28:49No, but I'm not going to have one away from my boyfriend who's got to take me.
28:52Right.
28:53A female officer steps in to continue the search.
28:56Just stand up for us.
28:57That's it.
28:58Ask him, isn't he?
28:59Mr. Terminator here.
29:01I'm just going to give you a quick search.
29:02Have you got anything on you that's going to hurt me or you?
29:05No.
29:06No, no.
29:07Have a look.
29:08I'll just give you some light.
29:09Just relax.
29:10Listen, you've got some needles on you.
29:12So just to protect us and you, we're going to take this jacket off.
29:15So we're going to remove the cuffs because it's the only way we can do the jacket.
29:18So we just want you to stay calm and then we'll need the bag off.
29:22No one's against me.
29:23Just relax while I take these cuffs off.
29:26I'll take that one off first.
29:28What I'm going to do, take this jacket off first this side.
29:31Just stand up for us.
29:33Just stand up for us.
29:34I've got needles in your pocket.
29:36Alright, let's take this jacket off in your bag.
29:38Why are you putting them that on for me?
29:39You're resisting against me.
29:40I think that's the handbag that's been in.
29:43Yeah, there's needles in that.
29:44She's saying, I'm looking for my boyfriend.
29:48It could be like a well-rehearsed tactic.
29:51She has got previous to understand theft offences.
29:54Dealing with people under the influence of drinking drugs,
29:58you have got to be switched on.
30:00They don't like the situation they're in.
30:03With the suspect denying any wrongdoing,
30:06officers review a neighbour's CCTV.
30:09This is our patio.
30:11So she's coming down the garden.
30:15That's her, yeah.
30:16So she's trying...
30:17This is our patio door, so she's trying that.
30:19Can't get in there, so she's gone back.
30:21She can't get through the gate, she's trying to push it,
30:23and it pulls towards you.
30:25This is the siding house, so she tries the back door.
30:31Can't get out the gate because she's locked.
30:33I've locked the gate.
30:34That's all right.
30:35So she comes back, and then this is when he comes out the door,
30:37and frightens her half to death.
30:39Ah, yeah.
30:40Yeah, that's a hundred percent.
30:45She's in the wrong garden.
30:46She's looking for a boyfriend.
30:47Yeah, all right.
30:53She asked me for a fag.
30:55Is she?
30:56Yeah.
30:57You haven't got a fag, have you?
30:59You haven't got a cigarette, have you?
31:01Yeah, 24.
31:02I know you've got three nine.
31:04Just to confirm, I've just had a look at the CCTV
31:07that's had an attempt break.
31:09Confirm it is the female that's been arrested.
31:13I'm not feeling shook up at all.
31:14I was just more angry, really.
31:16And if I hadn't have intervened when she'd come down,
31:19she would have also broken into our house,
31:21and then somebody else's would have gone on from there.
31:24We're sitting in the back of the car.
31:25Where's my coat?
31:26Here.
31:27Yeah.
31:28Where are we going?
31:30What are we going anywhere?
31:31I want to go out and sleep.
31:32What's today?
31:33What for?
31:34Burglary.
31:35Where were the needles?
31:36Just in that one.
31:37Are you making me frustrated?
31:39I've got a screwdriver in there.
31:42Very good.
31:43There was a needle just in that side.
31:50See that side?
31:51There we go.
31:52There it is.
31:53Yeah, it's just needles in that one.
31:55There was a screwdriver found in the left pocket,
31:58walking around with a screwdriver.
32:00Yeah.
32:01She's going to have to give an account for that.
32:03She also had on her as well a black handbag,
32:05which matched the description of property
32:07that's been taken from one of the burglaries.
32:09There's nothing in there.
32:11There's nothing in there.
32:12There's nothing in there.
32:13She certainly needs help and rehabilitation,
32:15but then there's also the flip side to that.
32:17It needs suitable punishment as well.
32:19So the courts have got to kind of put this into consideration
32:22that if it is a repeat offender,
32:24what can they put in place to kind of put a stop to this?
32:27As the suspect is taken into custody,
32:30Lee's approached by a neighbour.
32:32Is it the rear window that's been smashed on?
32:35It's on the back patio door.
32:39Right, if we come and have a look at rear patio doors.
32:42There's signs of another attempted break-in.
32:45She's bashed that.
32:46Yeah.
32:47For some reason, when all that needed to do
32:49was to be undone.
32:51But then she used this boulder here.
32:54Ah, yeah, yeah.
32:55She'd come over.
32:56She'd use that boulder there,
32:58because I know that's normally there.
33:00Yeah.
33:01But she's obviously smashed that glass there.
33:03Right.
33:04There's a boulder being picked up from the garden.
33:05You can see it's been used at least twice
33:07to try and put the window through.
33:09Not successfully,
33:10but it's a pretty determined attempt
33:13to try and get into the property.
33:15It's going to make a hefty noise
33:17at like half one, two o'clock in the morning.
33:19So it's almost like no fear
33:21of being potentially caught or disturbed.
33:24Just having to look a bit further.
33:25See, it looks like we've got some Jimmy Marks here,
33:27which has been used with a tool,
33:29which could be consistent with a screwdriver or similar.
33:32And we've had the female being found
33:34with a screwdriver in a pocket.
33:36So that'll certainly be looked at by CSI.
33:39But it's a definite attempt
33:41to try and get into that property.
33:42House burglaries,
33:45it's kind of the lowest of the law.
33:47It's a massive invasion of privacy for people.
33:50And the knock-on effects that burglaries can have
33:53is it's kind of, it's your own home, isn't it?
33:55And you've been disturbed by an offender in your house.
33:58You don't know what their intentions are.
34:00You don't know who they are,
34:02whether they're armed or not.
34:03And luckily tonight,
34:05we've managed to get that suspect detained very quickly.
34:08Coming up.
34:20You can see him there.
34:21See that hanging from the ceiling?
34:22Yeah, yeah.
34:23That's where that camera was.
34:24And they've smashed that down there.
34:25On the hunt for burglars preying on businesses.
34:30Last time they were after product.
34:32They've been through everything.
34:33It looks like looking for cash.
34:35Hopefully one day we'll catch these people.
34:38We can't afford to keep putting the bill.
34:42The average burglary takes less than 10 minutes.
35:03They've entered through the back of the premises.
35:09You can't see how many there are,
35:10but you can see the torches now at the front.
35:13For traffic cop Chris Wells-Jackson,
35:16it's a race against time.
35:18So we've had reports of a break in progress
35:21at a commercial premises not too far from here.
35:24Looks like there's potentially a couple of offenders on site with torches.
35:28So we've got a few units going towards them.
35:35The breaks we attend tend to be a very quick entry.
35:39It'll be a case of use a power tool or a crowbar to open a door.
35:44It can be something that prizes a shutter door up and open
35:47in a space of five or ten seconds.
35:50It's not just one burglary or two burglaries.
35:53Sometimes we're seeing eight, nine burglaries in a night.
35:57I'm 30 seconds away mate.
36:0795% of burglaries and robberies remain unsolved.
36:16Chris arrives within minutes of the 999 call being made.
36:33But the burglars are gone.
36:35Right.
36:36Has anyone actually been in?
36:39Yeah, they've been in.
36:40The only thing I've touched is the door handle to get in.
36:43Okay.
36:44They've gone through the back.
36:45Yeah.
36:46That was open.
36:47They haven't got much of a better security door than that.
36:50And they're still getting in.
36:52Unreal.
36:53Just to give you an update.
36:58Owners are here and the offenders have left.
37:01They have been in.
37:02It's a confirmed break.
37:03They've entered through the rear door.
37:05The rest of the property's got bars across the front.
37:08Unfortunately, the lady's been broken into before.
37:11So she's obviously took the security measures a little bit further.
37:15But this time they've gone for the back.
37:17Managed to force entry.
37:18Establishing if anything's been taken.
37:21A lot of criminals now can do a job in the space of a couple of minutes.
37:27By the time we get that phone call and respond to the area,
37:30the thieves are long gone.
37:32They've gone through there.
37:33They've gone through there.
37:34And they've gone through there.
37:35Obviously gone upstairs.
37:36The door's open.
37:37Nothing's been trashed up there.
37:39So it doesn't look like they've kind of ransacked anything.
37:42Last time they were after product.
37:44They've been through everything.
37:47And it looks like they're looking for cash.
37:50Because if your computer's in that drawer, they're both in that drawer,
37:52they're not taking it.
37:53Yeah.
37:54But there's no cash ever left on here apart from my float.
37:56They don't know that though, baby.
38:01We've got access to the footage that we can watch back.
38:06I see them with the cam...
38:08With the...
38:10Sorry.
38:11We've got cameras.
38:12This was literally 22, 31.
38:16You can see them there.
38:17Yeah.
38:18Just look behind the back.
38:19They've literally got to there.
38:20That camera.
38:21Knocked that camera off.
38:25See that hanging from the ceiling?
38:26Yeah, yeah.
38:27That's where that camera was.
38:28And they've smashed that down there.
38:30In an ideal world, we'd like to get access to them now, obviously,
38:33because at least we can try and identify a vehicle then.
38:35Obviously, I know that's going to be difficult at this time.
38:37I'm trying to get a hold of the site manager.
38:40Yeah.
38:41It's very similar to a job I had yesterday.
38:43Right.
38:44If we can get that camera off the front gates right here.
38:46Yeah.
38:48The CCTV that's on site, which covers the entrance,
38:52might give us an offending vehicle.
38:54Obviously, if it does, then we'll do some research on that
38:56and see if we can get it picked up.
38:58But no doubt they'll be on to another industrial estate
39:01and committing a burglary elsewhere,
39:05knowing that all the resources have probably come to this one.
39:08They've literally walked in, ripped the camera off the wall,
39:11opened three or four cupboards, gone.
39:15But as we were travelling, she was saying we could see them in there?
39:18Yeah.
39:19But obviously, there's that two-minute delay, isn't they, every time?
39:21And then, I bet, literally, as we turn corner,
39:23I bet someone's just gone.
39:25Unfortunately, a lot of burglaries at the moment,
39:27commercial and residential, do go unsolved
39:29because there's a lot of things that we can do.
39:32I don't know.
39:33I don't know.
39:34I don't know.
39:35I don't know.
39:36But we have to go unsolved
39:37because the criminals are very forensically aware.
39:40They know that most people have got CCTV.
39:43They cover their faces.
39:45They're wearing gloves.
39:46And ultimately, they know that they need to be in and out in two minutes
39:51and that we can't respond that fast all the time.
39:54So, it's almost like they've gone through there with a crowbar
39:59and that's where they've forced it out.
40:03Business started because, you know, my partner and I both got made redundant at the same time and started on Chesterfield Market and grew it from there 13 years ago.
40:12Retail is a really tough business at the moment and, you know, you work, you know, 24-7 and you put your heart and soul into it and yet these sort of people just take the mickey, you know, and it's frustrating because, you know, we've got to pay for it.
40:25We've got to sort it all out, you know, we've got to get ready again to open on Monday and yet, you know, the back door's been absolutely trashed and it's just a real frustration.
40:37They're picking on, you know, small businesses for a quick and easy bit of money.
40:41If they want to get in, they'll get in and no matter what security they've got, they're going to try and hopefully one day we'll catch these people and they'll get justice because we can't afford to keep footing the bill.
40:55For me, burglars are the worst types of criminal.
41:00They've got absolutely no consideration whatsoever of the impact that they are having on somebody else's life.
41:08When you turn up at a job and you see that the victim is so upset because they're going to suffer financially because of this, it's really difficult to see.
41:18Like, that keeps me motivated into wanting to catch these criminals and I keep going out every night and making sure I do everything I can to do that.
41:28Over 250,000 burglaries were reported across the UK in the last 12 months.
41:48Burglaries are definitely on the rise.
41:53Certainly, I think the cost of living crisis is one of the reasons why you've got people getting put into very difficult financial situations.
42:02To break into people's houses is a sign of desperation.
42:06I've never in the 10 years I've been in the police scene burglaries so high.
42:17It's a battle that we're constantly fighting.
42:20The best we can do is keep going and hopefully eventually we'll get on top of it.
42:24At times, it seems like the odds have stepped against us.
42:33I joined this job to catch bad guys, to catch bad people.
42:38And for me, burglars are at the top of that list.
42:50In this episode...
42:52The man arrested by Andy Swift on the industrial estate near Chesterfield
43:01pleaded guilty to failing to provide an alcohol sample and driving uninsured and unlicensed.
43:09He received a 12-week suspended sentence and a 50-month driving ban.
43:15No action was taken against him for theft.
43:18Police are still making inquiries into the identity of the runaway suspect.
43:25I'd lay good money on that he'd worked there at some point.
43:29It's too much of a coincidence.
43:32Show me your hands, pal.
43:33Stinks of diesel.
43:35The males arrested on suspicion of fuel theft...
43:39Get off my wrist, man!
43:41...were all released without action due to insufficient evidence.
43:45Yeah.
43:46Okay, blown, sir. I'll tell you when to stop.
43:48The female arrested by John Terry was convicted of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.
43:54She was fined 237 pounds, received 10 points on her license, but was not disqualified due to
44:02the police being unable to prove she was driving.
44:08Do we know what a handbag you stole, then?
44:10A handbag's ma'am.
44:12The female suspect arrested after a burglary spree in Derby was connected to a total of 11 burglaries during that night.
44:19Where are we going anywhere else?
44:21What's more?
44:22Burglary!
44:23She's been remanded in custody and due to appear at court.
44:27You can see him there?
44:31Yeah.
44:31Just look behind the back.
44:33And so far, the police have been unable to make any arrests in connection with the burglary at the pram shop near Chesterfield.
44:42Although the case is still under investigation as the police make further inquiries.
44:48Hopefully, one day we'll catch these people and they'll get justice.
44:57We'll see you next time.
