00:00Federal immigration raids are now underway across New Orleans.
00:06Part of the Trump administration's latest crackdown,
00:09and they're already creating scenes of tension and fear across the city.
00:13On Wednesday, Border Patrol agents fanned out across Kenner,
00:16a suburb just west of the city, driving through neighborhoods, parking lots,
00:20even stopping a man mowing a lawn.
00:22The administration says it's targeting immigrants accused of violent crimes,
00:26including home invasion, armed robbery, and rape, and blames local sanctuary-style policies
00:31for letting some suspects go.
00:34But the tactics are sparking fear.
00:36In one neighborhood, a man stood on his roof for more than an hour as agents surrounded his home,
00:41only coming down after the convoy pulled away.
00:44The operation is also rolling out in Minneapolis,
00:48just hours after President Trump launched into a tirade against Somali immigrants
00:52and called Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, quote,
00:55He noted that the Somali community is under investigation in Minnesota
00:59with allegations of massive fraud and stealing of state money.
01:03Again Wednesday afternoon, the president doubled down,
01:06telling reporters in the Oval Office that Somali immigrants have destroyed our country.
01:10He also took another swipe at Omar,
01:13who came to this country as a Somali refugee while in her teens.
01:17The Somalians should be out of here.
01:19They've destroyed our country.
01:21And all they do is complain, complain, complain.
01:24You have her.
01:26She's always talking about the Constitution provides me with...
01:31Go back to your own country and figure out your Constitution.
01:34I mean, our president's obsession with me and the Somali community really is creepy and healthy.
01:44And we are not, and I am not, someone to be intimidated, and we are not going to be escaped with it.
01:51We are here to stay.
01:53The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is home to the largest Somali community in the country, about 84,000 people.
02:01DHS says it could make 5,000 arrests or more in this surge.
02:05Some in the Somali community are speaking out, trying to reassure neighbors who say they're terrified.
02:10Yeah, I'm not scared, you know.
02:13There's nothing to be scared of, you know.
02:15There's a Constitution in this country, and we have rights, and every single one of us has rights.
02:23And we're not scared, but we have some Somali communities that are very scared.
