Transcript
00:00Big BC news yesterday. First and foremost, they are keeping, they are retaining Bill O'Brien for his third season.
00:07The correct move by Blake James, the athletic director, and Boston College as a whole.
00:12I, for one, am very, very happy to see Coach O'Brien back for the Eagles next season.
00:19Does he still listen to the show or does he hate us?
00:23I don't. I hope he doesn't hate me.
00:25I have been a very strong supporter of he.
00:28You've been supporting the Eagles.
00:28Um, but I do not know if he listens to the show, uh, but even more so they have somewhat answered the cries that I have been, uh, screaming into the ether.
00:41Uh, so as Curtis, a lot of fans have been asking for, and Blake James said that BC has received a $50 million challenge to match on a one, one basis, uh, for the athletic program for athletic scholarships and operational costs over the next five to seven years.
00:56Uh, they are also going to make more significant investments in operations and administrative support for football in general.
01:02Uh, they've hired GM Kenyatta Watson on Monday.
01:06They hired him.
01:07He's coming from Auburn.
01:08He also was the GM over at Georgia Tech, Florida State.
01:12Um, so he is very into recruiting.
01:14He's done a great job doing those in the past.
01:16I remember watching him play for BC.
01:18Right.
01:18Yes.
01:19Yes.
01:19BC alum, BC player.
01:20Uh, and James also announced in the statement that BC will increase its revenue share allotment to a maximum amount, uh, to put them in the same line as the, uh, four conference, uh, top four conference peers.
01:34Um, this to me, it's finally some type of change.
01:38It's not just another season where an athletic director releases a statement saying, you know, either we're firing a coach, we're keeping the coach, um, and we're going to be better.
01:46Right.
01:47This is actual dollar signs attached to it that they are going to make change.
01:51If they can get the match, that's a hundred million.
01:53Correct.
01:54That they can spend.
01:55And I think they can.
01:56And the revenue share.
01:57And if they're going to the max, it's 20 and a half million.
01:59Yes.
01:59We call Rob Hale.
02:00That's pretty, that's pretty impressive.
02:02That is the change that we've been asking for.
02:04And that's the change that we need.
02:05And that's the change that Bill O'Brien deserves.
02:07If you give Bill O'Brien that type of help, financial help that this, this is going to, to, to swing things in the right direction for BC.
02:15So well done to Blake James.
02:16Well done to BC and, uh, congratulations to coach O'Brien.
02:20If I can do quick, two quick things.
02:21One, I would like to congratulate the alums and the fans of Boston college, because for the first time in a really long time, you were loud and you voiced a support for a team and the, and the university shifted.
02:33Also, I thought that that statement showed that they had to woo Bill O'Brien back more than Bill O'Brien had to save his job.
02:44Because if you're Bill O'Brien, you're like, I'm not going to keep doing this.
02:47We can't compete with this.
02:48So either we bump this all up or there's a million jobs out there.
02:53I'll go do something else.
02:54Yeah.
02:54Good job.
02:55I don't know.
