00:00morning bill morning everyone how we doing tough loss last week but kept it close so i'm i'm sure
00:07i i know you don't want to lose games but i'm sure you were somewhat encouraged by that
00:12yeah but you know look i think we were uh you know very competitive in the game and uh we
00:17just
00:17we have to learn to finish these games um you know we had the lead 14 to 6 and you
00:23know weren't able
00:24to really get anything going offensively and defensively kind of got worn down so
00:29have to do better offensively but i think we're on the right track bill those 14 points mason
00:34mckenzie basically led the way for you guys he had three series where he produced two touchdowns
00:39when you look at him it it seemed kind of like a coming out game is that fair to say
00:44and do you
00:45think moving forward he can build on that yeah he's he's a um he's a really good player he's very
00:51tough he's very competitive uh you know i think he's really working hard to improve relative
00:58to the passing game i think that's where and that's not just him that's the o-line protecting
01:02that's the receivers the tight ends everybody you know doing their job but but i think if we can
01:07really and we've seen that this week that there's been a lot of improvement in the passing game so
01:12really looking for that to you know get us going here against smu but yes he's a he's a dynamic
01:17player
01:18and you know just a really really good guy to coach bill one of the areas where you guys are
01:23really
01:24standing out is your ability to create turnovers and turn the football over and you know what that
01:29means when it comes to wins and losses uh what would you say has been a big reason on why
01:35you've
01:35been able to create those turnovers i think that um the addition of ted roof has really helped us
01:42uh you know he and i known each other for a long time and everywhere we've been together he's always
01:48had you know whether it's georgia tech or when we were together at penn state uh he's always had
01:55the ability to get a defense you know that's an attacking defense that understands the importance
02:00of going after the football and so i think these guys do a great job of that that that has
02:05to continue
02:06and that's kind of like back to courtney's question we when we get the ball like that the d you
02:12know
02:12you know this wig the famous term of complimentary football like we've got to do a better job of
02:17playing complimentary football we we've got these turnovers we need to turn them into points every
02:22time we get them we haven't been able to do that speaking of turnovers you have smu on deck and
02:27you
02:27look at smu's offense they've been pretty good but they've haven't they've had an issue with turnovers
02:32how bad do you need to capitalize on that this weekend yeah that's right they have nine uh you know
02:39turnovers and we that that would that's a big part of the game we have to take care of the
02:43ball on
02:43offense and we got to you know try to get the ball off of them i think that's part of
02:47our game plan
02:48every week and they they are they're very good on offense kevin jennings their quarterback is awesome
02:54they they've got a really good back rafael they've got a really good receiver uh knight who's you know
03:00they just and the red lashley does a good job with that offense so we've got to just hey look
03:04we've got
03:05to go in there and play aggressively and uh and like you said try to you know try to take
03:10the ball away
03:10bill when you look at the game uh against virginia tech you know you talk about you're close and we
03:16just talked about how your team i think leads the acc in turnovers but the one area that you guys
03:23have
03:23kind of let teams kind of take advantage of you is defensively would be against the run what what
03:29do you got to do better in in your mind to be able to you know stop teams from you
03:35know making big
03:36plays in the running game yeah it's been it's been good at times i mean we we've really you know
03:43i
03:43would say like the first three quarters of the game against virginia tech we held them to i think it
03:47was under three yards per carry and then and and again offense is a big part of this right we've
03:53got
03:53to be able to stay our third down offensively is terrible we've got to stay on the field and
03:58and help the defense out but you know the defense is on the field for 81 plays kp price and
04:03anthony
04:03pilano played 81 plays that's too many plays we've got to you know do it do as good a job
04:08as we can of
04:09helping them by possessing the ball on offense but they they have to it really comes down to to gap
04:15control and we you know a lot of times we get out of our gaps we're not especially late in
04:20the game
04:20when we're everybody's trying to make a play and and trying to get the ball back things like that so
04:25we've got to just be more consistent with you know i've got this gap you've got that everybody you
04:30know understanding team defense bill have you ever suffered an injury on the sideline that required
04:38stitches i i happen to be like on the way in i turned it on so i i already know
04:46that
04:47i mean if you're if you're a coach coaching soccer and you're hit in the head with an errant
04:56uh throw in like does that mean it wasn't a throw in it was a kick well does that mean
05:01you're not
05:02i've been in i'll say this i've been in a couple you know pretty heated confrontations with players
05:08that you know a couple times the face you know the head butt into the into the face that yes
05:13you
05:13know that was tough to handle but that didn't require stitches you know when you get hit by a
05:17soccer ball you know those things those things happen that thing was moving bill i'm telling you
05:21it like broke my hat it was a whole thing i love to know i'd love to know what you
05:27were
05:27i'd love to know what you were actually watching was there there must have been food being
05:30no i was literally looking to my left as i'm walking towards the bench
05:36also also bill oh wait a minute first on the uh confrontations on the sideline i think one of
05:42them was with the goat if i remember correctly yeah but that yeah it was with the goat but i
05:47mean
05:47you know the goat yeah that's been a little overblown those things happen all the time that
05:53was like two brothers that that was yeah that was you should have seen the ones in practice
06:00he told me that the the button you know i had to press the button to at least to call
06:05the plays
06:05through the headset in practice he told me that the button wasn't working he kept telling me i'm
06:09like now the button's working you're you're not you know you're not listening to what i'm saying
06:14and finally that thing exploded into the the whole headset being thrown in his direction
06:19which belichick belichick didn't even care about that he was just like can we just move on to the
06:23next play please
06:27that's great uh how excited are you for the sabin documentary i think that comes out
06:31next week on espn are you a part of that at all i'm not i'm not you know i'm not
06:37i'm not but
06:38yeah no i i look forward to watching that i mean he's he's the goat he's the go to uh
06:42great coach
06:43and uh really appreciate you know working for him and all that but uh yeah no that'll be that'll
06:48be fun to watch especially if they get into those staff meetings that'll be real fun
06:53i know that you don't have control over the students but as someone who was drunkenly at
06:59alumni several times as a student it was disgraceful how empty that stadium was against virginia tech
07:05curtis it was a nor'easter of epic proportions yeah what are you doing you're in college the role is
07:10to get drunk and get have fun in the rain like what are we doing like i it had to
07:16have had an
07:16impact in some way that you get out there and you look at the student section and it's just concrete
07:23yeah i you know i gotta be again i'm gonna choose my words carefully here we we've got to
07:29we have to again we have to produce a consistent winner which we're working very hard to try to do
07:35that here and i think i think if you're if you're winning on a consistent basis you know people are
07:41going to come watch you play especially the students um they were they turned out for the
07:45rutgers game it was awesome curtis you know i just yeah it was a nor'easter and all that but
07:50uh yeah we
07:50have to we have to do our part and be a team that they want to come watch play i
07:55don't know if you heard
07:55it or not but is i would offer my services shyme offered to design a play for you i would
08:01offer my
08:02services as dj if you want because is it is it accurate that somebody was playing enter sandman
08:08over there uh on the bc side of things during during yeah i don't you know there's certain i i
08:17really like
08:18control the the football program yeah not the music i don't have any control over you know there's
08:24always arguments about bright side and when to play bright side and you know but our our administration
08:29blake james he's fantastic i i just look i don't know why would you play enter sandman if that was
08:35played i'm not sure i i wasn't really listening so i had 40 mile an hour winds blowing through my
08:40headset so i wasn't really hearing the music but uh i mean they have yeah we don't really want to
08:45play
08:45there we don't want to play the other teams you know like vibe song right no i mean they have
08:52a
08:52massive catalog metallica there's uh 15 other bangers i don't think they play dirty water at yankee
08:58stadium when the red sox win yeah exactly when is that happening by the way uh 2028 okay all right
