We realized that you can get fuzzy pink handcuffs like in bulk.
00:03
I don't know why I decided upon this like everything's super close together vibe, but
00:07
that's what we're doing.
00:08
I'll shut up.
00:09
Hi, I'm Sabrina Carpenter and I'm going to scrapbook my tour with Variety.
00:20
Okay, I'm going to tape this here.
00:23
I hope that looks good.
00:25
The Juno Arrest has been one of the most special memories of the whole tour by far.
00:33
It started by a mere innocent concept of wanting to highlight my audience because of how gorgeous
00:39
they all are.
00:40
And it's, as most of my bits tend to go, gotten really out of hand, I would say.
00:47
And we progressively just get more and more bizarre with the guests that I have at the
00:52
shows or the fans that show up and the way that they're dressed and the interactions
00:57
when they're being arrested.
00:59
But basically I have this line in Juno that says, want to try on my fuzzy pink handcuffs.
01:04
And I was like, it'd be fun to give the fans pink fuzzy handcuffs every night.
01:08
We realized that you can get fuzzy pink handcuffs like in bulk.
01:12
So it really worked out for us.
01:13
And it's been lasting us the whole tour.
01:16
I've gotten to arrest wonderful amount of people from fans at the shows to friends of
01:20
mine that come to people that are just so incredibly talented and amazing guests at the show.
01:26
And that's been really fun as well.
01:28
When I got to arrest Jack Antonoff and Margaret, they were like my first ever like couple arrests,
01:35
which was really, really fun.
01:36
And that was at one of my shows in LA.
01:38
I would be in love with Margaret, like anyways, so to be able to arrest her and get that moment
01:45
with her, even though her husband was there, was really special for me.
01:48
Her husband, Jack, who I know very well, was very special and very fun for me.
01:51
And they were both so lovely and playful about it.
01:54
I recently just got to arrest Anne Hathaway at my show in New York and like, why?
01:59
I don't know.
02:00
She was amazing.
02:01
I'm so honored that she was there.
02:04
It was so funny, like seeing her like grace the screens, you're just like, she's a, she's
02:08
so beautiful.
02:09
And she was so sweet.
02:10
And she was like, I'm from Genovia.
02:11
And that really made my whole life a lot better.
02:14
Okay, great.
02:17
So this is our customized Sabrina, I guess it's beer bottle for our tour.
02:25
I don't even really drink beer, which is, I guess the irony, but this is a moment that
02:29
we wanted to create at the beginning of the tour.
02:32
I really realized on the emails I can't send tour how people value spontaneity in shows
02:37
and, and also feeling like they got something different in their city in that night that
02:42
no other city has gotten and, and, or just an experience that they felt really special
02:47
from.
02:47
And so I wanted to find a way to do that on this tour.
02:51
And we decided to make our own game of spin the bottle.
02:54
And instead of everyone kissing each other, we don't do that.
02:57
We, we spin the bottle and we sing a different song every night.
03:00
So it started because I love doing covers.
03:02
I started doing covers on YouTube when I was so young.
03:06
From that point, I wanted to incorporate those in the show.
03:09
And then it has also turned into this leg of the tour being like sort of, you know,
03:15
half covers and half some of my songs that maybe aren't in the setlist every night that
03:19
fans might be excited to hear.
03:21
It's always so fun to see the reaction from the crowd.
03:24
Recently, we've been getting to do a few songs from Man's Best Friend, which has been definitely
03:29
a highlight of this tour for me, like combining those two worlds together.
03:34
Honestly, if I could just be an ABBA cover band on this side, I probably would.
03:38
That's not a secret to anybody.
03:40
But we've done, we've done quite a few ABBA covers, but the most popular I would say on
03:45
this tour is Mamma Mia.
03:46
That was just like by far the most fun for everybody.
03:48
We've done Lay All Your Love On Me.
03:50
We did Nine To Five.
03:51
That was really fun.
03:53
We've done Kiss Me.
03:54
We've done some really, really great songs.
03:56
We did Super Freak in LA because obviously, and that was really fun too.
04:01
So it's kind of just whatever I'm feeling will really get the crowd hyped and amped.
04:05
So let's put her right there, the Queen.
04:10
I can't even believe this happened.
04:12
This is like one of my biggest childhood inspirations and musical influences, Christina Aguilera.
04:17
She had asked me to be a part of her anniversary for a Spotify project that she was doing, and
04:23
I got to sing What a Girl Wants with her, which was like a dream come true is a very big understatement.
04:29
And then I don't even know how it happened.
04:32
I think it was like along the way, it was just sort of like, it'd be so fun for us to do something
04:35
again together live because that was like a pre-recorded situation and we just had the
04:41
best time.
04:42
So when I did my shows in LA, she was so incredibly gracious to be able to come out.
04:48
And you just hear her rising from the stage with her like clear Christina Aguilera riff
04:54
that she does, like the longest riff in the world.
04:57
And it was, it gave me chills.
04:59
It was, it was so fun.
05:00
And the audience went berserk.
05:02
It was just like a really special moment.
05:04
That was also like really one of the first guests that I had on the whole tour.
05:08
So us like singing in the heart pit together was, was so sweet.
05:11
I mean, I, I grew up like beautiful was my audition song in every room I went into.
05:15
And like, anytime someone asked me to sing, I was like beautiful.
05:18
So that is a, that is my girl from the beginning.
05:21
And that was a really special moment.
05:26
This was such a highlight.
05:28
I mean, these shows were in Hyde Park.
05:29
These were some of the biggest headline shows I'd ever played so far this year.
05:34
It was two nights in the park and it was 65,000 people.
05:39
And I really wanted to do something special for the Brits because they've been so good to
05:44
me since Espresso, they've just really taken me in like a, like a child of theirs.
05:50
And I've really, really appreciated every moment I get to play there because I love London
05:53
so much.
05:54
It's one of my like ultimate destinations.
05:57
And Duran Duran, I've been a fan of since I was a little girl.
06:00
My mom put me onto them and I was just like, this would be crazy.
06:03
There's no way they'd be available.
06:05
And I was literally, my jaw literally hit the floor when they said that they would come
06:09
out and we sang Hungry Like the Wolf.
06:11
And it was so fun.
06:13
I just will never forget these moments feel so special because it's also like maybe the
06:17
last person that my fans would expect to be on stage with me and like the collab that
06:21
no one ever expected either.
06:23
And I think that those are always really, really fun.
06:25
And then you'll always see like the parents in the crowd just being like, you know, like
06:30
it's just a very funny moment for me as well.
06:32
So it was very special.
06:34
It's like two worlds colliding.
06:37
Well, this was pretty iconic for me, earth, wind and fire.
06:41
I could not believe that they were able to come out at this show.
06:46
We did Lollapalooza in Chicago and it was a very special night.
06:50
We were able to sing September and Let's Groove, which are two of my favorite ones.
06:54
The hardest thing was picking a song, honestly, because Earth, Wind and Fire has just like
06:58
been my playlist for my entire life.
07:01
Every single song on repeat.
07:02
And they were just so gracious and so excited.
07:05
And I mean, their band is incredible.
07:07
We had all the live horns and everyone on stage and it was just like the energy was unreal.
07:12
So that was definitely one of the highlights of my entire life.
07:16
And my parents were really jealous that they weren't there.
07:19
So they missed that one.
07:21
They were like, why didn't you tell us?
07:23
I was like, I didn't I didn't know if it was going to happen.
07:25
It did.
07:26
It was really, really special.
07:27
I don't know why I decided upon this, like everything's super close together vibe, but
07:32
that's what we're doing.
07:33
Well, this was ACL weekend two.
07:37
And I was so excited to be able to do this with the chicks.
07:40
The first song I ever heard by the chicks, I was like eight years old and it was Letter
07:45
Rip, which I didn't tell them that when I met them.
07:48
But from Letter Rip, I just became such a fan of all their music.
07:53
And obviously their harmonies together were something that I was so excited about because
07:59
they asked me if they could sing one of my songs with me as well as one of theirs, which
08:02
I was really honored and suggested, please, because that song has so many harmonies that
08:07
I love.
08:07
And they are obviously just like the best in the game.
08:11
So incredible, so professional and just pros.
08:15
So we only got to run it a couple of times in soundcheck before we did it together.
08:20
And wide open spaces, just one of the best songs.
08:22
And the audience was freaking out.
08:26
But I felt really, really lucky to be able to do that with them.
