00:00We realized that you can get fuzzy pink handcuffs like in bulk.
00:03I don't know why I decided upon this like everything's super close together vibe, but
00:07that's what we're doing.
00:08I'll shut up.
00:09Hi, I'm Sabrina Carpenter and I'm going to scrapbook my tour with Variety.
00:20Okay, I'm going to tape this here.
00:23I hope that looks good.
00:25The Juno Arrest has been one of the most special memories of the whole tour by far.
00:33It started by a mere innocent concept of wanting to highlight my audience because of how gorgeous
00:39they all are.
00:40And it's, as most of my bits tend to go, gotten really out of hand, I would say.
00:47And we progressively just get more and more bizarre with the guests that I have at the
00:52shows or the fans that show up and the way that they're dressed and the interactions
00:57when they're being arrested.
00:59But basically I have this line in Juno that says, want to try on my fuzzy pink handcuffs.
01:04And I was like, it'd be fun to give the fans pink fuzzy handcuffs every night.
01:08We realized that you can get fuzzy pink handcuffs like in bulk.
01:12So it really worked out for us.
01:13And it's been lasting us the whole tour.
01:16I've gotten to arrest wonderful amount of people from fans at the shows to friends of
01:20mine that come to people that are just so incredibly talented and amazing guests at the show.
01:26And that's been really fun as well.
01:28When I got to arrest Jack Antonoff and Margaret, they were like my first ever like couple arrests,
01:35which was really, really fun.
01:36And that was at one of my shows in LA.
01:38I would be in love with Margaret, like anyways, so to be able to arrest her and get that moment
01:45with her, even though her husband was there, was really special for me.
01:48Her husband, Jack, who I know very well, was very special and very fun for me.
01:51And they were both so lovely and playful about it.
01:54I recently just got to arrest Anne Hathaway at my show in New York and like, why?
01:59I don't know.
02:00She was amazing.
02:01I'm so honored that she was there.
02:04It was so funny, like seeing her like grace the screens, you're just like, she's a, she's
02:08so beautiful.
02:09And she was so sweet.
02:10And she was like, I'm from Genovia.
02:11And that really made my whole life a lot better.
02:14Okay, great.
02:17So this is our customized Sabrina, I guess it's beer bottle for our tour.
02:25I don't even really drink beer, which is, I guess the irony, but this is a moment that
02:29we wanted to create at the beginning of the tour.
02:32I really realized on the emails I can't send tour how people value spontaneity in shows
02:37and, and also feeling like they got something different in their city in that night that
02:42no other city has gotten and, and, or just an experience that they felt really special
02:47from.
02:47And so I wanted to find a way to do that on this tour.
02:51And we decided to make our own game of spin the bottle.
02:54And instead of everyone kissing each other, we don't do that.
02:57We, we spin the bottle and we sing a different song every night.
03:00So it started because I love doing covers.
03:02I started doing covers on YouTube when I was so young.
03:06From that point, I wanted to incorporate those in the show.
03:09And then it has also turned into this leg of the tour being like sort of, you know,
03:15half covers and half some of my songs that maybe aren't in the setlist every night that
03:19fans might be excited to hear.
03:21It's always so fun to see the reaction from the crowd.
03:24Recently, we've been getting to do a few songs from Man's Best Friend, which has been definitely
03:29a highlight of this tour for me, like combining those two worlds together.
03:34Honestly, if I could just be an ABBA cover band on this side, I probably would.
03:38That's not a secret to anybody.
03:40But we've done, we've done quite a few ABBA covers, but the most popular I would say on
03:45this tour is Mamma Mia.
03:46That was just like by far the most fun for everybody.
03:48We've done Lay All Your Love On Me.
03:50We did Nine To Five.
03:51That was really fun.
03:53We've done Kiss Me.
03:54We've done some really, really great songs.
03:56We did Super Freak in LA because obviously, and that was really fun too.
04:01So it's kind of just whatever I'm feeling will really get the crowd hyped and amped.
04:05So let's put her right there, the Queen.
04:10I can't even believe this happened.
04:12This is like one of my biggest childhood inspirations and musical influences, Christina Aguilera.
04:17She had asked me to be a part of her anniversary for a Spotify project that she was doing, and
04:23I got to sing What a Girl Wants with her, which was like a dream come true is a very big understatement.
04:29And then I don't even know how it happened.
04:32I think it was like along the way, it was just sort of like, it'd be so fun for us to do something
04:35again together live because that was like a pre-recorded situation and we just had the
04:41best time.
04:42So when I did my shows in LA, she was so incredibly gracious to be able to come out.
04:48And you just hear her rising from the stage with her like clear Christina Aguilera riff
04:54that she does, like the longest riff in the world.
04:57And it was, it gave me chills.
04:59It was, it was so fun.
05:00And the audience went berserk.
05:02It was just like a really special moment.
05:04That was also like really one of the first guests that I had on the whole tour.
05:08So us like singing in the heart pit together was, was so sweet.
05:11I mean, I, I grew up like beautiful was my audition song in every room I went into.
05:15And like, anytime someone asked me to sing, I was like beautiful.
05:18So that is a, that is my girl from the beginning.
05:21And that was a really special moment.
05:26This was such a highlight.
05:28I mean, these shows were in Hyde Park.
05:29These were some of the biggest headline shows I'd ever played so far this year.
05:34It was two nights in the park and it was 65,000 people.
05:39And I really wanted to do something special for the Brits because they've been so good to
05:44me since Espresso, they've just really taken me in like a, like a child of theirs.
05:50And I've really, really appreciated every moment I get to play there because I love London
05:53so much.
05:54It's one of my like ultimate destinations.
05:57And Duran Duran, I've been a fan of since I was a little girl.
06:00My mom put me onto them and I was just like, this would be crazy.
06:03There's no way they'd be available.
06:05And I was literally, my jaw literally hit the floor when they said that they would come
06:09out and we sang Hungry Like the Wolf.
06:11And it was so fun.
06:13I just will never forget these moments feel so special because it's also like maybe the
06:17last person that my fans would expect to be on stage with me and like the collab that
06:21no one ever expected either.
06:23And I think that those are always really, really fun.
06:25And then you'll always see like the parents in the crowd just being like, you know, like
06:30it's just a very funny moment for me as well.
06:32So it was very special.
06:34It's like two worlds colliding.
06:37Well, this was pretty iconic for me, earth, wind and fire.
06:41I could not believe that they were able to come out at this show.
06:46We did Lollapalooza in Chicago and it was a very special night.
06:50We were able to sing September and Let's Groove, which are two of my favorite ones.
06:54The hardest thing was picking a song, honestly, because Earth, Wind and Fire has just like
06:58been my playlist for my entire life.
07:01Every single song on repeat.
07:02And they were just so gracious and so excited.
07:05And I mean, their band is incredible.
07:07We had all the live horns and everyone on stage and it was just like the energy was unreal.
07:12So that was definitely one of the highlights of my entire life.
07:16And my parents were really jealous that they weren't there.
07:19So they missed that one.
07:21They were like, why didn't you tell us?
07:23I was like, I didn't I didn't know if it was going to happen.
07:25It did.
07:26It was really, really special.
07:27I don't know why I decided upon this, like everything's super close together vibe, but
07:32that's what we're doing.
07:33Well, this was ACL weekend two.
07:37And I was so excited to be able to do this with the chicks.
07:40The first song I ever heard by the chicks, I was like eight years old and it was Letter
07:45Rip, which I didn't tell them that when I met them.
07:48But from Letter Rip, I just became such a fan of all their music.
07:53And obviously their harmonies together were something that I was so excited about because
07:59they asked me if they could sing one of my songs with me as well as one of theirs, which
08:02I was really honored and suggested, please, because that song has so many harmonies that
08:07I love.
08:07And they are obviously just like the best in the game.
08:11So incredible, so professional and just pros.
08:15So we only got to run it a couple of times in soundcheck before we did it together.
08:20And wide open spaces, just one of the best songs.
08:22And the audience was freaking out.
08:26But I felt really, really lucky to be able to do that with them.
