00:00Hi, I'm Dan Radcliffe, and I am back again for Wired Autocomplete Part 2.
00:08It's weird watching yourself as a kid.
00:11That was what you said the last time you were here.
00:12Oh, was it? Great. Okay, so I'm consistent.
00:14Oh, so this is a f***ing test.
00:19This is what Daniel Radcliffe. Okay.
00:22What is Daniel Radcliffe's favourite Harry Potter?
00:26I actually love the fifth one, which is not one that most people cite as one of their favourites.
00:32But I got to work with Gary Oldman a bunch in it, and I was sort of a little bit older at that point,
00:37so I was kind of able to appreciate that more.
00:39But to watch, probably the last one, what is Daniel Radcliffe's age?
00:45I recently turned 32.
00:46When I tell people that I'm 30, people just, they go sort of pale and look like the inception with the,
00:52you know, on the beach at the end when they've aged a thousand years, it's like that.
00:55What plays has Daniel Radcliffe been in?
01:00I did a play called Equus, which people probably know as being the play about a psychologically disturbed kid
01:08who is obsessed with horses and gets naked.
01:10That's the detail you probably remember.
01:11I did that when I was 17, which seems crazy to say out loud now, but I did.
01:17I did a play by Martin McDonagh called The Cripple of Inish Marne.
01:20That was a lot of fun.
01:21I did a musical called How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
01:25I'm just listing my CV for you now, but that's fine.
01:27I want to go back to Broadway at some point and the West End.
01:31Oh, and I did Endgame.
01:32I did Endgame in London.
01:33Shit.
01:34It was right before the pandemic as well.
01:35It's the most recent.
01:36That's embarrassing.
01:37I forgot that one.
01:37I love film as well, but like stage, you get a pure adrenaline rush every night, which
01:42is really, really exciting and addictive.
01:45What is Daniel Radcliffe's accent?
01:48I mean, English?
01:49Just like kind of boring, middle-of-the-road English?
01:52I mean, it's London, I guess?
01:54I've weirdly been told that my American accent, which is what comes out when I do an American
01:57accent, I've been told I sound like I'm from Ohio quite consistently.
02:00I don't even really know what that means, but I do know that Chris Columbus, who was
02:04directed the first two Potters, I think he's also from Ohio, so maybe in some way I am
02:09just kind of mirroring the American accent I heard the most growing up, but my own accent
02:13is just in boring, boring English.
02:17Who Daniel Radcliffe?
02:18Who does Daniel Radcliffe support?
02:21I'm assuming this means, you know, in terms of sports and not like emotionally.
02:26I have become like an avid fan of many American sports.
02:30My loyalties in terms of rooting interests are generally split between New York teams
02:36and Detroit teams, because my girlfriend is from just outside Detroit.
02:39Yeah, I'm like a Red Wings hockey fan and Detroit Lions, but also, you know, the Giants
02:45and Rangers, and obviously England in anything that we're even remotely competitive in.
02:48The football team that I grew up supporting in the UK is Fulham Football Club, but yeah,
02:53I'm a much less big soccer fan than you would expect from an English person.
02:58Who voices Daniel Radcliffe in Bodak Horseman?
03:04Me.
03:06Um, I did it.
03:08Yeah, it would have been actually an amazing, considering what the episode, the joke that
03:13that episode ends with, if they had had Elijah Wood voice me in that, but they did not.
03:18Who does Daniel Radcliffe look like?
03:21Oh, a perfect segue.
03:22The idea of me and Elijah Wood is the same.
03:25We don't actually look that alike.
03:27But if you imagine all our component parts, we're just sort of short, pale, blue-eyed,
03:34big-eyed, brown-haired people.
03:36Who does Elijah Wood look like?
03:40See above, I suppose.
03:41I would love to be in a movie with Elijah Wood.
03:43At this point, it feels like it would have to be something that is consciously using the
03:47way the world sees us as linked and, you know, similar-looking.
03:52I'm very open to pitches.
03:53There's no way you can do that because I'm not on social media, but, you know, if it's
03:56good, it'll get to me.
03:58Is Daniel Radcliffe?
03:58Okay.
04:00Is Daniel Radcliffe in Cursed Child?
04:03No, I am not.
04:05That is the Harry Potter play.
04:06I'm not in it.
04:07I haven't actually seen it as well, not because of the content of the play, but just because
04:11I imagine the crowd would lean towards big Harry Potter fans in a really significant way.
04:17So I feel like being in there just might be, like, people might be watching me watch it,
04:22and that feels weird.
04:23I've heard it is absolutely fantastic, though, and everybody who goes has a wonderful time.
04:27Is Daniel Radcliffe knighted?
04:30No, very much not.
04:32That is very, very far from a thing that I am or will ever be.
04:36I would imagine.
04:39Is Daniel Radcliffe?
04:41That's great.
04:41That is truly unexpected.
04:45Is Daniel Radcliffe the Geico Gecko?
04:47No.
04:48I mean, I think that advertising campaign pre-existed at a time where I would be doing voiceover work
04:54just because I think I would probably sound like a teenager at the time.
04:56There's a thing in the ad that always really annoys me when he's like,
04:59people don't know if I'm English or Australian.
05:01It's like, no, you're obviously English.
05:03You sound very English.
05:04You would know that.
05:05No, I'm not the Gecko, and I obviously have other thoughts about it, which I'm just discovering
05:09now as well.
05:09Is Daniel Radcliffe a time traveler?
05:13I can't talk about this here.
05:14No, I think this refers to an amazing quality that apparently my face has.
05:21It crops up in old photos a lot.
05:25A lot of the photos also have sort of Harry Potter-ish glasses on, but there are truly
05:29some of them that are just eerie.
05:31They found one of like an old lady in like a bonnet, I think, and glasses.
05:36It is insane how much I look like this old woman.
05:38But if I was, I wouldn't be able to reveal that information because I would screw up like
05:43the future.
05:44Is Daniel Radcliffe still friends with Tom Felton?
05:47Yes, absolutely.
05:48We're all kind of all over the place.
05:49We don't see each other much.
05:50But yeah, I'm still like in contact with all of them.
05:52And it's like, we were all, you know, obviously text Rupert last year when he had his baby,
05:56which is truly insane and amazing.
05:59I always say we'll always be bonded by this thing, even if we don't like kind of live in
06:03each other's pockets anymore.
06:05Thank you, Olivia.
06:06All right, why Daniel Radcliffe?
06:08It's a great question in and of itself.
06:10Why did Daniel Radcliffe become an actor?
06:12I had like expressed an interest in acting when I was like five or six.
06:16And then I saw a comedy play that my mom took me to.
06:19And I turned around to her.
06:20I was like, I want to be an actor.
06:21And she, having been an actor and not had the greatest experience of it, was like,
06:26no, you don't want to do that.
06:27And I didn't really think about it again for a long time.
06:29And then they were auditioning people to play David Copperfield for the BBC.
06:33More as like a self-esteem thing.
06:35They were like, maybe he can have an audition.
06:37And that, just the experience of auditioning will have been a thing that none of the other
06:41kids in the class will have.
06:42And then on that project, I worked with Maggie Smith.
06:46She played my aunt in that.
06:48And then it was her who I think recommended me to the director for Potter.
06:52So, yes.
06:53Thank you, Maggie.
06:54Why is Daniel Radcliffe walking dogs?
06:57I assume this refers to a photo of me on the set of Trainwreck.
07:03It was a set.
07:05And I am playing a character.
07:06I have not just become a dog walker in real life.
07:10I was doing a play in New York.
07:12It was the Cripple of Inej Marne, I think.
07:13Jell Apatow came and saw it and came back to my dressing room after and was like,
07:17would you be up for doing like a really silly small cameo in this movie?
07:21I thought he was just being kind of nice.
07:22And then he, at some point, he phoned me and talked me through like what I would be doing.
07:27And yeah, it was great.
07:28It was such a fun day.
07:30And that photo, my God, that photo went everywhere.
07:31Why did Daniel Radcliffe quit Harry Potter?
07:36Oh, oh, punches for you.
07:40I didn't quit.
07:41They finished.
07:42No, I obviously did not quit.
07:44And I would not have because it was awesome.
07:47I am now done.
07:48And now being done, I do not feel an urge to rush back to it just because it was, you know,
07:54like it's a gigantic, life-changing thing.
07:57And I feel like having come out of it, I've managed to like get my life in a level that I kind of,
08:04you know, can manage and feels dealable with.
08:06But I also never say never because that's a dumb thing to say.
08:09Why is Daniel Radcliffe in Halifax?
08:12Last year, my girlfriend was shooting a TV show in Nova Scotia.
08:17And so I was hanging out in Halifax for like a good long while, like a couple of months.
08:23And I think people were really confused.
08:24But it also happens all the time because Erin's from Flint in Michigan.
08:27And whenever we go back there, people would just like, I created a small scene at a Bob Evans in Michigan.
08:34But they also, that Bob Evans was so sweet.
08:37Like the press, the local press heard that I had been to this Bob Evans.
08:40And so they phoned them up and asked what I had and what I ate.
08:43And the Bob Evans no commented.
08:45They said like they wouldn't tell them as like a matter of my privacy.
08:48I was like, you didn't need to.
08:49You could have told him I had an omelet.
08:50I wouldn't have minded.
08:51But it's really nice of you.
08:53Why isn't Daniel Radcliffe verified on Instagram?
08:56Because I am not on Instagram.
08:58And the person who, if they're saying it's me, they are not telling the truth.
09:02I commend all of you out there who are mentally strong enough to be on social media all the time.
09:09I am not one of those people.
09:10I would go fully insane.
09:12So yeah, I'm staying, staying off for now.
09:16Does Daniel Radcliffe, does Daniel Radcliffe actually wear glasses?
09:21No.
09:21As you can see from my face, I have not got contact lenses in either.
09:24I was prescribed glasses when I was really young.
09:27And I kept losing them.
09:29And at a certain point, my parents were like, you can see, right?
09:31And I was like, yeah, fine.
09:32And they were like, okay, I think we're good then.
09:34The glasses, like whenever I play another character that has glasses,
09:37it's the most involved I get in props ever.
09:39Because I'm just like, we have to be very specific about which glasses we're choosing here.
09:42And they cannot be reminiscent of, they cannot be perfectly circular, basically.
09:46Does Daniel Radcliffe have tattoos?
09:48Not yet.
09:49Again, I really do want some.
09:50But again, I've been talking about this for so long.
09:52There will always be like a makeup artist who I know who will be like, don't do it.
09:56We have to cover them and we secretly hate you for it.
09:58But I think I'm going to bite the bullet at some point because I do, I really like them.
10:03Talk to me in 10 years when I am covered, just head to toe.
10:06Does Daniel Radcliffe like being famous?
10:10Hmm.
10:11Some of these questions are simple and some of them are complicated.
10:13I like my job.
10:15A side effect of my job is that I'm famous.
10:18But generally speaking, like when you hear people say that they want to be famous,
10:22I'm like, anonymity is a really cool thing.
10:24Like it allows you to do a lot and make mistakes and like them not feel like all very, very high stakes all the time.
10:31And so there's, yeah, there's definitely like some parts of fame that are just weird and that I've had to like grow into realizing what they are because they were all just such a part of my life.
10:41If fame is the part of my job that I have to like deal with to do my job, I would make that deal like 10 times out of 10.
10:47Like it's, it's not even a question.
10:49Does Daniel Radcliffe play Minecraft?
10:52Minecraft and, and Olivia Rodrigo have been two of the real like, oh, I'm old moments of recently.
10:58Minecraft, obviously a few years ago, I was playing with my godson or attempting to play and he was like explaining it to me.
11:05And I was saying all the old person things of just like, I don't get it.
11:08How is it a game?
11:09When do we, when does it finish?
11:10It seems very cool, just can't do it.
11:12And then yeah, Olivia Rodrigo was the same thing where she was like at the White House.
11:15And I was like, oh, you're famous enough to be at the White House.
11:18And this is the first time I'm hearing about you.
11:21So, but that's, I completely accept that is, that is on me, not anyone else.
11:26But yeah, there have been real, real watershed moments recently.
11:29Does Daniel Radcliffe like anime?
11:31You know, I think I would like anime a lot.
11:34Even now I'm going, am I even versed enough to know what anime specifically refers to?
11:38Like it's certain series, but like is Avatar the last airbender anime?
11:42That I'm into.
11:43That was great.
11:44I know it's a lot more in depth than that.
11:45But yeah, I don't, I don't think I am, but I probably would be if I like really got into it.
11:52What's Daniel Radcliffe?
11:53What is Daniel Radcliffe's favorite movie?
11:56There's a movie called A Matter of Life and Death.
11:58It was made by I think Powell and Pressburger in like 90, I want to say like 1952.
12:02And it's this magical realist story about like a fighter pilot getting shot down over the channel.
12:09But then the angels miss him in the chaos of war.
12:12So he has to like go to heaven and make a case that he should be allowed to keep living.
12:16It's so imaginative and fun.
12:18And yeah, you know, in terms of like films I have rewatched the most, it's probably the Ben Foster led teen movie Get Over It.
12:28It was one of the first films that my girlfriend and I bonded over.
12:30Yeah, it's like an incredible card.
12:31So like Ben Foster, Kirsten Dunst, Mila Kunis, Colin Hanks, like so many people are in that.
12:36Martin Short is unbelievable in it.
12:37Great movie.
12:38So two very different films for you to check out there.
12:40What did Daniel Radcliffe get in his GCSEs?
12:441A star, 2As and the rest Bs.
12:46It is funny how much at the time you're like, man, these GCSE results, they are going to matter forever.
12:54If you're currently revising for them or studying for them, I am so sorry.
12:57It sucks and it will be over soon.
13:00What does Daniel Radcliffe smell like?
13:01Hmm.
13:02I don't know because I smell myself all the time.
13:05I'd imagine coffee and probably like in the summer, just sweat.
13:10It's unpleasant probably.
13:12What did Daniel Radcliffe pull out of his head in jungle?
13:19So yeah, there's a scene in a film I did called Jungle where my character is, who is a real person who got lost in the jungle.
13:25He realizes that there is something living under his skin and he has to get rid of that.
13:32It's a very, very gross, quite hard to watch scene in the movie.
13:36One of my favourite prosthetics that I've ever worn.
13:38You could do the whole thing practically of like opening it and pull it out.
13:41Sorry, this is really gross.
13:43I feel like it's worth mentioning that in the film, we gave you one of them.
13:46In real life, Yossi had like 10 to 20 of them all over his body that he had to get out one by one.
13:52There's just some things that happened to Yossi that were so extreme that we went with like a slightly easier version.
14:00Daniel Radcliffe, this is just my name.
14:03Can I marry Daniel Radcliffe?
14:05You know, probably not.
14:07But that doesn't mean you won't meet someone great.
14:10Yeah, I've always been very, you know, awkward around this question.
14:14But if you met me, you'd be like, oh, no, I don't want to marry that guy.
14:17It's fine.
14:18What is Daniel Radcliffe up to these days?
14:21The third season of this very, very funny, incredibly lovely show that I do called Miracle Workers.
14:25This season is the most insane we've ever done so far.
14:28At one point, they called me into the writer's room on Zoom and were like, we have something to pitch you.
14:33And they're like, they don't do that normally.
14:35Like, I trust them.
14:36They don't have to run stuff by me.
14:37But they were like, you appear in this crazy outfit and you do a disco version of she'll be coming around the mountain when she comes whilst, like, twerking and voguing.
14:47I'm not somebody who's ever going to tamp down somebody else's creative spirits.
14:53So I was like, yeah, okay.
14:54And I'm game for something slightly crazy.
14:56It's one of the most insane things I've ever shot.
14:58Also one of the most fun days I've ever had on a film set.
15:01I also just finished filming a movie called The Lost City of D with Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock.
15:07In Dominican Republic.
15:08And it's awesome.
15:09It really is like, I hope that cinemas are kind of up and going again by then and people feel comfortable doing that.
15:15So that, you know, it's a real like, grab your friends and some popcorn and cheer at the screen.
15:19Like, it's a really good, fun movie.
15:21How many films has Daniel Radcliffe been in?
15:25Ah, that's a great question.
15:26I don't know.
15:27I, I, at last, the last time I counted it was probably like, he was mid-20s.
15:32I look at like, like Michael Caine's IMDb and he's been in like more than 100 movies, I think.
15:37Whenever you want motivating, just look at Michael Caine's IMDb and go, yeah, you can, you can keep working if you want to.
15:43How many times did Daniel Radcliffe break his wand?
15:48This is a rumor I would like to disperse.
15:50There is a thing that I sometimes see on Twitter that's like when I am going on it to not have one but look at other people's.
15:56Amazing fact or weird trivia thing will pop up and it'll be like, Daniel Radcliffe broke 100 wands or like 60 wands on set.
16:04It's not that many, guys.
16:06I used to like, uh, use them and like drum on my leg with it the whole time and like be doing that all the time and eventually, you know, you sort of wear them down and, and they will break.
16:16But yeah, it, it wasn't, it wasn't as many as that.
16:19I feel like everyone got through a few and I was probably 12.
16:21Maximum, absolute maximum of 20.
16:24And finally, Daniel Radcliffe, Periodic Table.
16:27I learned the Tom Lehrer song, The Elements, when I was like 16 or 17.
16:33I don't know why I was that kind of teenager.
16:35I love anything that's like wordy and fast and a bit of a challenge.
16:38And I got to meet Tom Lehrer one day, the guy who wrote that song and many other songs.
16:42If you take anything away from this, go and just like download an evening wasted with Tom Lehrer.
16:47There's a lot of other stuff in there that is truly, uh, holds up brilliantly today.
16:52Cool.
16:53The one that like riled me slightly, I was like, why did he quit Harry Potter?
16:56I'm like, is that a thing people are thinking that happened?
16:58But no, that's what's wonderful about this segment.
17:01You give me a chance to correct that.
17:03So thank you so much for having me back, Wired.
