00:00Hi, I'm Andrew Garfield, and this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview. Good luck.
00:08Never in my life have I googled myself. Of course I have. It mostly hurts to google yourself, so I wouldn't recommend it.
00:19Fun!
00:20Is Andrew Garfield a nice guy? You decide, man. You decide, I don't know. You tell me. Am I a nice guy?
00:25Sometimes. Like if I'm walking down the street, I'm having a nice day, and you say, yo, and I'm like, yo, that's nice.
00:30But then sometimes I'm gonna be like, hey, I don't want to say yo. I'm tired. Or like something just happened that made me sad.
00:35I just want to be a person, man. So yeah, yes and no. Is Andrew Garfield in Uptown Funk? I wish. Is Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man again?
00:43Yeah. Oh, you almost got me. No, no, no, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not crying out loud.
00:51But I'm excited to see what they're gonna do with the next movie because I just love him.
00:55Is Andrew Garfield alive? What do you think? What do you see? What do you feel?
01:00What is Andrew Garfield's accent? This one. It's an English one. I was born in Los Angeles, but I was raised in England.
01:07South of England, specifically. Banstead, Surrey, SM71DY is my postcode, or was.
01:12What was Andrew Garfield's first movie? Lions for Lambs. A ridiculous first movie to do because Robert Redford was directing and starring.
01:22Next on the call sheet was Meryl Streep. And then after Meryl Streep was Thomas Cruise.
01:27And then after that, it was this little child called Andrew Garfield that had never made a film before. And that's ridiculous.
01:33What was Andrew Garfield nominated for an Oscar? That is bad grammar, but that's fine because it's a search engine.
01:40It doesn't have any feelings. Although maybe the people that created the search engine should have to think about that.
01:44I was nominated for an Oscar for a film called Hacksaw Ridge. I played a character called Desmond Doss.
01:48He was a conscientious objector in World War II in Okinawa. And it's a true story.
01:52And he rescued the lives of 75 people off of this death-defying battlefield ridge and lowered them down on a rope.
01:59It's superhuman. I remember on day one of the battle scenes of that, I thought, I'm going to do all this for real.
02:04I'm going to drag these guys to the end. I'm going to let them down.
02:07After the first guy, I literally had to lay down for two hours. It is ridiculous how this guy did it.
02:12It was absolutely insane. And he was built... He was as, you know, skinnier than me.
02:18What Harry Potter movie is Andrew Garfield in? I don't know. Pretty sure none.
02:26I'm flattered to be considered a marauder. A fan cast, if you will, of a young Remus looping in the Marauders.
02:33That's a sweet thought. And I appreciate your consideration.
02:37What does Andrew Garfield think of Tom Holland? I really like him.
02:41I think he's a wonderful person. I met him once at the BAFTAs one year.
02:44We had a lovely talk. He was very sweet. He's a Kingston boy with Neighbours, pretty much. He's from Surrey.
02:49And then, you know, as an actor, I just think he's absolutely wonderful.
02:52I'm just super grateful that he's the one filling out the suit. I love those films.
02:56I think they've just done an incredible, incredible job with it.
02:59Does Andrew Garfield... Does Andrew Garfield sing in Tick, Tick, Boom?
03:02So, Andrew Garfield does sing in Tick, Tick, Boom? Yes. Thank you.
03:05I worked very, very closely with an amazing vocal coach, Liz Kaplan,
03:09and all of Lin-Manuel Miranda's amazing musical direction team.
03:12They enabled me to open my voice up to the point where I could honour John's songs
03:16and feel confident enough to belt them out, as he always did when he was doing his one-man show and otherwise.
03:21So, it was a privilege to be able to learn a skill that I've always wanted to attain
03:25and do it in service to John Larson.
03:27Does Andrew Garfield have social media?
03:29Not officially, no.
03:31I have a couple of creeper accounts.
03:33Just to follow news, you know?
03:35But no, I'm far too sensitive to do it myself.
03:38Does Andrew Garfield know how to skate?
03:40Skateboard, yeah. I used to skateboard when I was a kid.
03:42That was my first real love, actually, when I was 13, 14, 15.
03:46Listening to Rage Against the Machine, the Beastie Boys,
03:48with trousers far too big for me, with my butt hanging out.
03:52My big claim to skateboarding fame, for anyone who knows about that famous skate spot in the South Bank of London,
03:59there's a set of seven steps, and I once kickfliped that set of seven when I was 15 years old.
04:04And then I broke my wrist, dropping him for the first time on a vert ramp.
04:07Does Andrew Garfield like lasagna?
04:09I get the reference, and I don't appreciate it.
04:11No, I love Garfield.
04:16I used to love reading Garfield comics, and I do love lasagna, but it's not related to the cat.
04:21But, you know, having that as a reference is good,
04:23because sometimes when people ask what my name is for a reservation for a restaurant or something,
04:27and I have an accent that's British, and when I'm in America,
04:30a lot of the time people are like, huh?
04:31And I'm like, oh, Garfield like the cat.
04:33And they're like, oh, like the cat, cute.
04:34And I'm like, yeah, it is cute.
04:36Why, Andrew Garfield?
04:38Don't ask me that, because I will talk for hours.
04:41And I will fall into an existential funk.
04:43And I will find my way through it, and I will realize the meaning of life,
04:46but I won't be able to express it.
04:47And it will be a whole waste of time for you, but not for me.
04:50So I don't want to subject you to that.
04:52Where is Andrew Garfield?
04:53I'm searching.
04:54I'm always searching.
04:55I'm always trying to figure that out.
04:56What is Andrew Garfield?
04:58What is he?
04:59What is Andrew Garfield's phone number?
05:02Wait, I want to follow that bad grammar.
05:05If I put an apostrophe S there.
05:06What is Andrew Garfield's phone number?
05:08Come on.
05:09Andrew Garfield's organ movie.
05:14It sounds like the title of, like, my sex tape or something.
05:18It's like a bad translation of, like, what my sex tape would be called.
05:21It's been translated from, like, another language, and it's, like, been printed on a t-shirt.
05:25Andrew Garfield's organ movie.
05:26I think you're referencing Never Let Me Go, which is not a sex tape, and far from it.
05:31I'm just switching streams here.
05:32It's just an amazing story, and I would love for you guys to watch the film.
05:35Andrew Garfield's long neck.
05:37It's true.
05:37I'm not going to debate that.
05:38It's a reality.
05:40I notice it every day.
05:40I look in the mirror, and I'm like, oh, there you are, you long neck.
05:43Bastard.
05:44Andrew Garfield's Justin Timberlake impression.
05:46I did that on SNL.
05:47I don't know if he enjoyed it.
05:49I wish I could be Justin when I was a kid.
05:51I wanted to be able to dance and sing like him, and she brought sexy back.
05:54That is no mean feat for one person to do.
05:57I love Justin.
05:58I loved working with him in the social network, and, you know, I had to kind of keep my cool
06:02because, you know, I am such a fan.
06:03He was so supportive of me during all that filming.
06:06He was just such a supportive dude, like, especially during that laptop smashing scene.
06:09He came up to me afterwards, and he just, I won't say what he said to me, but he was just so lovely.
06:13And it was like, I'm going to remember this moment.
06:15I'm talking about it now.
06:16I'm going to remember this moment forever because you're someone who I so admire as an artist,
06:20and, like, the fact that, like, I grew up listening to your music,
06:22and now you're telling me I did a good job on something.
06:25It's like, damn, that's really special.
06:26Those are the special moments that I hope I never take for granted.
06:30Andrew Garfield, Ryan Reynolds.
06:31Oh, I think this is a reference to the kiss.
06:33The Golden Globes kiss.
06:36This is a really fun moment.
06:37I said to him, if you win, kiss me instead of Blake, your wife,
06:41because Blake was on the other side, and he was like, amazing.
06:44Let's do it.
06:44And then he was like, what if, even if I don't win?
06:46I'm like, yeah, let's just kiss.
06:48So, yeah, that was fun.
06:49It was nice to do it.
06:51I liked it.
06:52Yes, he did get lost in my eyes.
06:53I felt it.
06:54And then I realized that what we had done was a mistake
06:57because for me it was just a prank, like a fun thing.
07:00But obviously, you know, this has happened to me before
07:03where people catch feelings and I don't.
07:04How tall is Andrew Garfield's feet?
07:06In...
07:06It's...
07:08It's a size 10.
07:09How to get Andrew Garfield hair?
07:12Propecia.
07:13No, I'm just kidding.
07:13How did Andrew Garfield became famous?
07:16I don't believe I am famous.
07:17How old was Andrew Garfield in Doctor Who?
07:19Young, a little whippersnapper.
07:2122, 23.
07:22How long was Andrew Garfield president?
07:24Says John Garfield.
07:25John Garfield?
07:25No, who was the president?
07:27James Garfield.
07:27John Garfield was a great actor.
07:28James Garfield.
07:29I'm not...
07:29I was never president.
07:31What did Andrew Garfield win a Tony for?
07:33Angels in America.
07:34I played the character Pryor Walter in the masterpiece that is Angels in America by Tony Kushner.
07:38Does Andrew Garfield do his own stunts when they allow me?
07:42Now that I'm a bit older and my knees are a bit creaky, it's a tricky thing.
07:45But yeah, I love it.
07:46Especially with the Spider-Man stuff.
07:48I loved it.
07:48It was one of my favorite part of that.
07:50Because I used to be a gymnast when I was a kid and I...
07:52It was like part of what made me love the character so much.
07:54And yeah, it's so fun.
07:55It's so fun.
07:56How many Andrew Garfield movies are there?
07:58I have no idea.
07:59Not many.
07:59I haven't made many movies comparatively to other people because I'm a picky son of a gun.
08:04I'm either called to a film or I'm not.
08:05And Tick Tick Boom is one of those rare ones where I feel very, very called to it.
08:09Andrew Garfield, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tick Tick Boom is in theaters now, Netflix soon too.
08:14Have a good time with it.
08:15I think you will.
08:17I'm going to go and now contemplate why Andrew Garfield.
08:20Thanks so much, Wired.
