Sarayu Blue chats with THR at the 'Inside Out 2' carpet and shares how she taps into joy. Plus, she reveals which emotion drives her mind and talks 'Expats' and the fan response with the Amazon show.

00:00Is this your first time seeing the film today on the big screen?
00:03It is, and I'm so excited. I can't wait.
00:06What did you think when they brought you this role, or how did you get involved in the movie?
00:09I was really excited. When they came to me with the role, I was like,
00:14Oh my God, are you for real? Are you for real? I screamed. I mean, I loved the first one.
00:19I'm an eternal fan of Disney Pixar, and so then to be a part of this story just felt,
00:24it just, I was over the moon.
00:26Do you remember how watching the first movie made you feel?
00:29Oh God, yes, of course. How could I forget? And it made me feel everything.
00:34I mean, the sort of slew of emotions that you go through watching these movies,
00:39because they're so heartfelt, and they're so beautiful.
00:42What do you love about working on animated projects like this?
00:46I think one of my favorite things about animation is that it doesn't matter how you look.
00:52So much of it is just getting to play and be free, and the imagination runs wild.
00:57And so it's just a really fun playground.
01:01And for you, you're also in Expats. What has it been like kind of with the fan response to that show?
01:07It's been, I've been very thankful. It's been surreal. I feel blown away because, you know,
01:12the truth is you just never know how anything will be received.
01:15And the way people have responded has been really exciting and moving.
01:19What was the most memorable part about working on that project for you?
01:23Getting to film in Hong Kong. I mean, that was just a dream.
01:27It was like, I miss the food all the time. I made the best friends.
01:30It was really, it's so rare to get to do something like that,
01:34where you film in the location that a show is set in, or a movie, you know.
01:37And so getting to do that was amazing.
01:40And with Inside Out 2, did you get to record with anybody in the booth, or were you totally solo?
01:44I was totally solo, but I had so much fun.
01:48And like, you know, the way I was directed, I got to do some improv and play, and it was just the best.
01:54Since this movie is all about emotions,
01:56which emotion would you say runs the control board in your head,
02:00like joy runs the control board in Riley's head?
02:03I would say empathy.
02:04I'm like such a big soft heart, and it's like, I don't recommend it.
02:10In terms of like, as a way to move through the world, it's a lot.
02:14But I am glad that I'm that way.
02:17I got to see the movie on Friday.
02:19You did?
02:19I did, and I loved it so much.
02:21And I'm excited for everybody to see it on the big screen today.
02:24But it made me think about the importance of maintaining your joy,
02:27and still tapping into that as you get older, because sometimes we lose it with age.
02:31For you, what's a way that you try to stay in touch with your inner child,
02:35and still maintain and find your joy?
02:37You know, that is a great question and point.
02:40And I have to tell you, working on my joy has been a muscle,
02:43because I can get really like, oh, I worry.
02:46I can get anxious.
02:47I can get, you know, take on the weight of the world.
02:49And I think one of the ways I really tap into my joy is dancing,
02:53and being just silly, and dancing around,
02:55and like being free and playful about life in general.
