‘Devil pact’ satanist actor jailed for 23 months over right-wing documents

A self-proclaimed satanist actor who claimed he made a pact with a “red-horned devil” has been sentenced to nearly two years’ imprisonment for having extreme right-wing material.

00:00Declan George Candiani, who is a self-proclaimed Satanist, was jailed here at the Old Bailey

00:09for 23 months on Friday. The 26-year-old actor was stopped by counter-terrorism police at

00:17Stansted Airport as he attempted to go on a holiday to Finland with his girlfriend in

00:23August of 2024. On seeing the contents of his phone, officers arrested him and searched

00:30the home he shared with his mother in Streatham. An examination of Candiani's iPhone and iPad

00:37revealed a cache of extreme right-wing material, which included manifestos of mass killers and

00:45documents advocating the use of serious violence to achieve white supremacy. Candiani also started

00:53using encrypted messaging platform Telegram under the username IanStuart88, referencing

01:00the founder of a neo-Nazi group financially sanctioned by the British government for suspected involvement

01:09in terrorist activities. However, Candiani denied wrongdoing, claiming he was mainly interested

01:16in Satanism. He was found guilty in October of two charges of collection

01:22of information likely to be useful for terrorism. He was acquitted of two similar offences.

01:29Candiani was sentenced to 23 months imprisonment, plus a year on licence for one charge, and to

01:3610 months imprisonment with a year on licence for the second.
