00:00A motorist deliberately rammed pedestrians and cyclists across two neighbouring towns on France's Île de Leron,

00:08injuring five people before being detained, according to officials.

00:12Two of the injured were in critical condition, according to the Interior Minister,

00:17adding that an investigation was underway.

00:30The incident took place along roadside areas between two towns.

00:45Authorities said it looked like the driver aimed to hit as many people as possible.

00:50Media reports identified the suspect as a 35-year-old French national residing in La Cotinière,

00:57a small fishing village on the west coast of the island.
