12:45As the sun rises in southwest France, six sleepy-eyed hosts are about to take on a challenge like nothing they've ever experienced.

25:21reflection of the hosts as well I think and so those little touches I think tell
25:26you a lot about how successful that B&B might be come on in oh wow nice room it's a
25:34great space isn't it yeah so we kind of tried to keep it quite simple in here now
25:41what did you bring from home to the artichoke candle holders we bought the
25:47monochrome cushions excellent and the black bedspread did you put in the the
25:53rugs nice touch because I need soft is it yeah this is the private bathroom for that
26:04room very tonight we'll be checking for you know the basics you know the the bins in the bathroom the
26:13water glass in in the bathroom tissues what have you put in here for us a box of tissues some soap a
26:21diffuser very good a hairdryer and do you have a bin oh we do not so that's a very good point
26:33okay something we can perfect for the other room Nicole and brat are being scrutinized by hotel inspector
26:45Ava so we've decided to call our B&B residents are because we're residents and our surnames rates
26:53there's a detail here with the all personalization is very important we really want to get to know a
27:02bit more about the hosts and what they like and why they want to do that what represents them okay
27:08you've named the bedroom yes so we've named the bedrooms residents are stargazing
27:16so tell me about this bedroom what have you done since you arrived so for our guests and to make
27:26them feel most comfortable we went just for a plane bedding I said that you've also added some welcome
27:32biscuits and put is it a properly or on a sermon walnuts as well yeah again a reference to the
27:39Dalton and the specialties from the region that's that and I see there's also a sign with a little
27:43text is it about the name of them yes so that's just behind the name of the room it's just a little
27:48poem and then we've also come up with a little hospitality pack since me and Brett's come we have
27:55been roasting toasting so I think all women are a little addition isn't it so nice we are melting
28:02meanwhile Justin and Paul are in Nicola's hands the green room as we call it very very fresh and
28:14pretty yeah with your garden outside little terrace for the guests make the bed look as inviting and
28:24squishy and delicious as possible you can put fresh flowers from your garden I think that's the way
28:30to put your own stamp on it it's a very inviting bed yes I think it's a really nice room actually
28:37and what is that the hanging space good hanging and you picked some hydrangeas from the garden yeah
28:43hydrangeas from the garden color that works perfectly as well pink is picked up that's lovely yeah just some
28:49water fresh still water and then yeah plenty of room there isn't a bin in a bin's vital yeah yeah

29:19really begin to scrutinize with a fine tooth comb that's what are marks down the chrome I can't
29:29believe how strong the branding is so early in the competition as well residents are feels like
29:34it's been there forever I'm really impressed I mean it's looking great no it's very clean oh it's
29:46rather long dark hair on there okay that's a big oversight because it's an obvious hair and I know that
29:55we're looking for fault but if a guest sees that that's one of the worst things is to find somebody
30:02else's hair yeah it just hasn't got a bin which is useful or any tissues and just a little bit of
30:11dust on the wall radiator I think Justin will have made an excellent start it seems they're both very
30:19creative types so I think they'll probably want to run a B&B that's beautiful and full of flowers and
30:27nice things to look at bin gate that's that's that bit over for now yeah so I'm a little disappointed
30:37about a couple of things there's probably a couple of areas where we could have cleaned a little bit
30:44better I don't think we would say fix I'm getting the room vanished excited a bit nervous because they
30:52just feel a little bit underprepared yeah but it's been a learning curve today I'm a couple of things
31:02that she pointed out which is actually good and we missed his tissues and a waste paper bin now the
31:14competition is about to really heat up the next knock on the door will be their first guests and the judges
31:23will be watching something that I will be evaluating today as well as their ability to sort of put their
31:32game face on you know their guests face on really if they're frazzled if they're stressed then when they
31:43hear the knock on the door they can't act frazzled and stressed we have a phrase that we use which
31:51is dr. footlights the the lights come on the door opens and you are on show exactly hello hi we're in

35:09I have shut the blind just so the sun didn't come in oh okay but hopefully you'll be happy in here yeah there's some water and towels and a little welcome pack of baths and toiletries for you
35:27the check-in is complete oh this is nice and with the hosts out of earshot friendly almost trying too hard
35:40I thought the room feedback begins bubble bath so this is a body wash for bubble bath there is no
35:47but the whole residence are branding things feels less personal it was a little bit manufactured
35:55on their very first day as hosts three couples have just welcomed their very first guests
36:10it was very kind of them to actually put the blinds on and even the a seat you know
36:18that was a nice touch Reshma and Manish are the guests at Joe and Guy's
36:23it's okay it is nice yeah after a long drive what they have done they have given three different
36:33uh uh softness no whichever we want we can use that that is a nice touch that's good check the
36:41bathroom now yes let's do that a bit of a long day some mistakes but in general I think it's done
36:47pretty well overall I think I'd probably score us a seven out of ten hair dryer yeah yeah no that is a
36:54good touch if we've forgotten anything really drastic hopefully not Peter and Anis are settling
37:02in at Nicole and Bratz sweetest is our deodorant oh and hand cream that makes you smile
37:10look at that pool I am straight in there later
37:24I think the pressure today for the printers and all paid off yeah most definitely absolutely
37:30and with us we just work as a team to get things done and I'm probably work better under pressure
37:37okay let's do some unpacking right there's lots of room in the bathroom she's good I've got a special
37:48shelf just my sponge cake Justin and Paul are hosting Andrew and Anne how's your tea is that okay

38:30it's tinfoil I thought the ring was really nice yes it's all cooler than I thought it was going to

38:43just we need to relax a little bit more the hosts are slowly finding their feet but it's down to the
38:51judges to decide who is pulling ahead and who is falling behind so as the Sun begins to set it's time
39:00for the judges HQ so we've met the couples three very very lovely energetic couples who really want
39:15this prize they're very hungry for the prize well I went to visit Justin and Paul it was nice they'd
39:23done some lovely little touches they'd picked some hydrangeas from the garden there were a couple of
39:29things missing like bins and tissues it's a big miss actually yeah and then the guests arrived and they
39:37were obviously quite nervous a little bit anxious so that made a bit of an awkward social situation and
39:43then so they got up from waiting to have their tea and went to see their room and and then we had
39:49the the typical this is your water this is your bedside table this is your bathroom this is your
39:55terrace perfectly obvious stuff which you actually don't need to point out so it wasn't the smoothest
40:01arrival we're gonna put an umbrella up for you guys are you do you want to sit on like that are you
40:08more in us in shade or what you want a lounger wherever yeah okay cool do you feel like the
40:14main thing they will need to work on for tomorrow is sort of the that warmth in terms of the arrival
40:20at home they were warm but they just weren't completely themselves right yeah that's nice isn't it
40:30yeah because then they could bring the the chairs back because that's in the shade we had joe and guy
40:35i have to say very very good yeah they had towels rolled they had a bottle of water for the guests
40:44they'd set the air conditioner on so the room was cool when the guests walked in we serve a continental
40:50breakfast okay so there will be juices hams cheese croissants bread cereals but we'll also do eggs as well
40:58on request Benedict uh not Benedict that's that's not on the menu yet yeah oh we've got avocado taste as
41:07well okay there was just one very negative aspect which we were very surprised about on inspecting the
41:17bedroom which was pristine there was one long hair tucked kind of under the scatter cushion on beds
41:26right guys make yourselves comfortable uh we'll get you some drinks we'll pop them on here for you
41:30and then yeah i'll pop your towels here too and you just relax thank you thank you so much how did
41:37you get on ava well you know what i was so impressed by brett and nicole today to start with they've
41:44branded the property they've got stickers with the brand on it she did the research she went to print
41:50everything in town it's lovely to see that they've done this much research another thing they did uh
41:57added to the list is they named all the bedrooms every bedroom has a different name and with that
42:03they created um little frames with the poem there's their uh breakfast menu for the morning breakfast uh from
42:10eight to ten anything you need brett will be on back and call there's actually a bell there behind
42:17you so if you need anything just just give that a day yeah and someone will come running most of
42:24time it'll be me but the named room things is quite hotel-y isn't it i suppose it depends on the size of
42:31your property for a bnb as well but they're really trying to work on the personalization aspect which is so
42:36key they're really showing their character the hosts have all had their successes and fails
42:44now the competition is out of the starting blocks so day one is over and i'm so glad because now it's
42:52time for a nice deserving rose wine tomorrow once we've done our first breakfast then it will become
43:02part and parcel and we're feeling we're more relaxed and i think feel like we're at home
43:09these are prepped for tomorrow preparation is key we will do better tomorrow come on we will do
43:15better we will do better tomorrow yes the energy level yes come on it's all gonna be fine
43:22new challenges lie ahead and the hosts will be stretched to their limits again tomorrow
43:31but they've all come here determined to win the prize of a lifetime and nobody intends to go home
43:39without a fight what an exciting week i know i'm i have a really good feeling of this week in fact
43:47a really good feeling that has a kind of a uh an underlying anxiety because how would we make a
43:52choice competition is really tough this week isn't it and i think maybe we have to be as critical of
43:57those challenges as we are nice about their achievements definitely absolutely yeah we'll see how they
44:03handle the pressure of the next challenges then i don't know next time that one's a bit messy
44:12our first thing is egg the hosts face their first breakfast i'm not sure if they're from the bakers
44:19the pressure begins to mount it's going to be frame all in the bed it's a competition and we're on a
44:25budget so and a curveball leaves everyone reeling guest early okay what what what what else is
44:33no no no if you had got the cracked sheets this wouldn't maybe happen
